[UPDATE] Voice to text is double and triple inputting what I say? Google issue?? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Today is the first time, since the Google Assistant update, that I've really text anyone.... I tend to use the voice to text feature on my keyboard for long text/posts. So when I use SwiftKey, I press the microphone and it brings up the "Google voice to text" and I'll say what I want, but when I look at it - t's in there 2 or 3 times?? I noticed it first in Facebook Messenger, then when texting my wife.....So it's not just one app.
I just switched to Gboard (Google Keyboard) and it does the same thing.... I switched to Swype and it's fine, but Swype uses it's own voice to text software (Dragon) instead of Google.
Like I said, this just started today and I'm not sure if it has to do with the Google Assistant update, or just something screwy is going on with Google?
Anyone else getting this?
[UPDATE]
I've found several people having this same issue:
http://androidforums.com/threads/vo...ce-to-text-keeps-repeating-sentences.1124892/

[UPDATE]
Well, it seems to have fixed itself over-night?
A little more insight into what it was actually doing....
When I would press the microphone (on my keyboard) and speak, it would put three variations of what you said in the field you were adding text to....For example, when I said the phrase "Testing one (comma) two (period).....It would come out like this:
Testing one, two. Testing 1 comma 2 period testing 1, 2.

The error seems to be that it is typing out every single possible interpretation of what you're saying instead of the most likely one.
Like I said, it seems to be fixed now? But I am in a different location now (work vs home). I'll have to check it this evening too.

Thanks for finding the thread where other people also had that issue. Various complaints were popping up in ROM threads for other devices and it's NOT a ROM issue.

Replied by mistake to this topic.....Disregard this reply :highfive:

SMS and Swype

Apologies if this is a known issue but I have just spent 30 minutes searching and cannot find it.
When creating a new SMS message, if I start typing a name using Swype then no automatic look up is taking place, however if I backspace the last character typed, then the matching contact names appear. I have no problems when using the standard keyboard. (I do not think this is related to the known Swype and loading messages issue)
I have had issues with SMS on my Leo. To me, it seems to be related to the amount of previous messages you have for that person. For some odd reason it wants to try and load the whole thread before letting you type. Once you get to about 300 or so in the thread, it really slows things down.
Then again, i'm new to Winmo and phone hacking so I do not have any mem tweaks yet that could help with that issue.
So, if anyone knows... let us know!
Known swype issue mate, I have not found a fix, always delete the last character as you have done.
its not a known issue its something htc programmed it to do. its meant to only bring up with a few letters but if you know the whole name then it should automatically add the number. does it for mine just type the first few letters and they should show up
@op, yea, swype does that here too.

with swype, though? we know it comes up with other keyboards, but it doesnt with swype till you delete a letter.
Are you missing the OP's point, or am i missunderstanding your post?
Am i the only one that gets a fair amount of delay sometimes in SMS with swype? Just entering text in a message can sometimes cause the keyboard to stop working, it onyl effects swype and eventually (about 10sec) all is fine again.
Thinking of going back to the normal keyboard because of this issue
yep, and in landscape, just dont bother, hehe.
I generally switch to phonepad for txt's tho, so it's not an issue. (Doesnt seem to lag when doing other stuff, posting to here, for instance.)
Any way to prevent or even have the texts in a thread preloaded or something to fix the load-lag in sms? My screen locks until all of the texts are finished loading. Many times i can start texting and it will catch up, but not always.
Prob the most annoying thing i've come across so far..

[Q] I have some questions about Android's Voice Input

I'm guessing this is an okay place to write this. Maybe there should be just an "Android General" area.
Anyway, I have two issues.
1. When I speak in a sentence for a text message, the first letter isn't capitalized. This annoys me as it is needless and shouldn't even happen with my "always capitalize a new sentence" function turned on.
2. In the voice input settings, I switched from US English to UK English, but it still puts down my words in American English where applicable. What is that about?
Bump? Also, can I report these issues to Google? Put them on the Google Code for Android? What can I do exactly? Are there solutions?
Uhh... help??
I don't really have a true answer to your question. But I just started using smart keyboard pro and when done talking it gives me a list of sentences to select based on what it thought u were trying to say. Basically saying that depending on keyboard used may determine if settings are handled properly. Try different keyboards
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
So is Voice handled by programs and not Android itself?
Voice is an external application that is referenced by many keyboards.
That being said, voice likely returns a simple string of text without capitalization, so that's what most keyboards are going to display. It probably won't help to switch keyboards unless they specifically account for the bug.
I think right now, you're pretty much out of luck unless someone has fixed it with a hack or a special keyboard.

[Q] Double Letters on Gingerbread Keyboard?

So I searched and couldn't find a direct answer basically here it goes,
I'm using CM7 and the gingerbread keyboard that comes stock. This has been happening since alpha and it slows down my texting. I'm a big texter, and I send about 25-35 thousand texts a month. So I need this to be fixed!
What happens, is that when I'm normally texting sometimes letters will automatically type themselves twice. Such as if I'm texting the word "always" it will usually come out as "aalways" and it looks dumb. I love the gingerbread keyboard but I might have to result in using another keyboard if this continues!(Does this drain battery life?) I don't want to use swype.
If there's a fix let me know! And I checked for a calibration setting and couldn't find one :/
Also happens to me. I just go back and fix it. It's not a HUGE problem, but it's there.
Happens to me also. I Googled it to make sure I'm not the only one. I was starting to think I had the beginning signs of Parkinsons. It's good to know I'm not the only one.
I've also noticed that there are times when the auto-suggest does not work. If you stop typing for a few seconds it comes back. And I've also had a problem with the keyboard not responding as fast I am typing and I have to slow down so it can keep up.
Did you try downloading a different keyboard from the market?
Yeah I'm actually using a downloaded gingerbread keyboard from the market. It just happens often enough to slow down my texting.
myTouch4G+Custom ROM
Yes, this is a frustrating reoccurring issue. Sometimes it'll even give you double letters of two of the first letters in a word, for example, "like ththis." It's especially ridiculous when it happens to only two letter words, like "to" for example, which results in "I'm going toto the movies."
I've filed a report with Google, so please visit the link and star and add your own testimony if you wish. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=14755
I even made a video demonstrating the problem to show Google. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUZdvr6Pdjk
Smart Keyboard Pro was my solution. Got tired of always getting "toto" when I type "to." And I also always get the doubt first letter on the word.
I'm on an epic 4g and I have this problem also. If you turn on the language packs when you push space bar and a quickly it wont register the "a". This problem doesn't occur nearly as often when typing with the language packs off. Just another thing to add to the complaint ;-)

[Q] Difference between S-voice and Google Now

Sorry if this is the wrong place but:
What's the difference between the S-Voice from the S4 and Google Now?
I watched sum comparison videos on youtube, but they seem a little bit inaccurate. For example, it said that "google voice" can't open apps, but it can on my Nexus 4.
S voice is Samsung's own personal assistant developed for Galaxy devices . I guess it has been used in GS3, Note 2 and GS4 as well.
Google Now is vast new concept started by Google. It's more than just a personal assistant. It's like improved version of Google Voice..
for ex. if you are entering any highway, GN will warn about traffic
you are entering into a tube station, GN will alert you about the next trains lined up..
Google voice can certainly open apps.
Google now is better .S voice sucks that's the difference. Half the time s voice doesn't function right or gets s##t wrong that you ask for.

S-Voice is like another apps on Samsung Device that begins with "S", and i prefer to put S as Silly except Samsung
Silly apps that u can find all of them for free in play store but samsung preinstall them on galaxies device!!! on Android OS that it has its own preinstalled apps......................!
of course Google Now is better.
Ok, this is turning into a fanboys sort of thread.
Back to the OPs question:
Essentially, theyre the same thing. Its like iOS' Siri versus Google Now, theyre both designed to do the same things but by different companies
And S-Voice is part of a proprietary framework called Touchwiz, so it can only be installed on devices running a Touchwiz ROM. Google now on the other hand, relies on no underlying framework and so could be installed on any Android device, as long as the Android version supports it
thx for the reply. The reason i ask this question is i installed S Voice on my Nexus 4 from here: http://www.sammobile.com/2013/03/26/samsung-galaxy-s-4s-s-voice-apk-now-available-to-download/
Is there any reason to have both? I just downloaded it for fun.
With further testing, it seems like the Google now can't open sum apps. Such as PPSSPP, CloudOn, Office Suite, and GTA Vice City. While S voice.apk from the S4 can do this and can do stuff like "turn off wifi" and "turn on bluetooth".

Not really, just use whichever is best for what you do, no point in really having 2 of the same sort of utility app
And obviously one will have more features than the other, it just depends on which features are most important to the user
Question, did the s-voice install properly and isnt giving you any force close issues? Strange because I was sure it would rely on the Touchwiz framework

Interesting....thanks, gonna check it out now!
It would seem that it would rely on the TW framework since its an assistant sort of app...

Evo shift, I'm on AOSP 4.2.2 though, so it should be fine. Strangely, that's where I downloaded it from and no luck.

I used it for a day then got the network connection error also. Samsung (actually Vlingo/Nuance) reads the incoming device ID and blocks the connection if it's a mismatch with the device ID the app's intended to work with. Same thing happened when people were using bootleg copies of the SGS3's S Voice APK before it was released.
As for S Voice vs. Google Now I use S Voice more. To send a text message for example, Google Now opens up the recipient from the address book but you can't dictate the message, at least not from within Google Now. Same thing with e-mail. Dialing's also kind of clunky where if there are multiple options for your request you have to pick one manually. S Voice also repeats the number back before dialing where Google Now just dials and can miss digits you dictate pretty easily. Using a BT headset you can pretty much completely accomplish things hands free with S Voice while quite a few require a second manual action with Google Now.
Here are some examples
If you're in an app like the browser you also can't get Google Now to launch from the menu key because it's now serving the open application and doesn't recognize the "long press" command to open Google Now. Some people have disabled S Voice and remapped the home key to either Google Search or Voice Dialer. S Voice allows you to post to FB and Twitter too. Also, a lot of Google Now's neatest features (flight departure, package shipping, etc.) require you to use Gmail because Google's servers scrape your messages looking for pertinent data. I don't use Gmail and don't like the idea of Google's servers searching my data, even with my permission so to anyone not exclusively on Gmail certain feature don't mean very much.
Voice controls are also tied to S Voice. I use them pretty frequently; especially with the camera, music player, and to launch apps from the lock screen by voice.
I played with Google Now for a short time when I got my N2 so if it's improved or I'm being too hard on it someone speak up.

It's being blocked because the device ID from the APK you downloaded doesn't match the device ID the server's reading from the actual device.
I love Samsung devices but I can't stand S voice. Unless there has been MAJOR improvement over the S3's/Note2 S voice I will still dislike it. First thing I do when I set up my Galaxy phones is disable it and get rid of the home button delay.
I think google now is better, faster, much more accurate and much more unique ( S voice is a clear copy of Siri).

S Voice Crashing

I know this has been discussed with other devices, but as far as I can see, no one yet has brought this for the S4, I can't tell you if it worked before I de-bloated it on Monday, but now that I needed the S Voice it opens but once you give the command it gives the sound that says that it gets the command, but then the Screen goes black for up to 10 seconds and then it pops up the error saying that S Voice stopped working.
Like I said I never used it before, so I don't really know if after the command I give it suppose to say something back to me confirming it and then does the magic, so I have doubts if what is really failing is S Voice or the Speech App, I already cleared all data and cache for S Voice, Google Text To Speech and Samsung Text to Speech, but nothing works.
Anybody with the same issue or know how to fix this? Thanks.

I had the same exact issue... Possibly because you removed ChatOn and ChatOnV.... Its required in one of the voice command menus which probably blew it up.
Only way is to download Kies and do a Kies restore. Thats how I got it back working.
Lag Reduction Guide in General section will tell you how its done.
Thanks for the info, I was guessing that Chat on was the issue... however, for me reset to factory is not an option as of now, I really don't use the S Voice, I was just testing it, and if in order to get this back to work, I need to reset and set again all my apps and settings in general, I better not do it. I even prefer just to uninstall S Voice for now until I'm force to do a reset.
Thanks anyway.
Truthfully, for my restore and initialization through keys, my apps were still there after I restored.
Not sure if this will be your case but you can try it.
Thanks, after reading your experience I got the courage to do it myself and for my surprise, there were all my apps and settings, and there I have S Voice back. Thanks a lot.
