How to get Yoga 3+ to recognize SD card formatted in exFAT?
Installed Solid Explorer and OTG Plugin - inserted exFat card and see nothing...
Please help to do it right

I'm interested in this too... Does someone find a way to work? I succesufully do it with an external 2.5TB Hdd drive with exFat\Ntfs to TotalCommander but with exfat format it won't work. I have an 128gb sdcard and is not visible... Only when its formated in fat32 or ntfs its visible....

MicroSD only supports FAT32. Cannot copy large files onto it!

Well this sucks. I cannot copy large files onto the MicroSD (Like a hidef MKV movie). I tried NTFS and exFAT and it will not read them.
WTF asus! Why include something that does not function fully!

Err. I want the movies on the card not the TF memory. The whole point of the card is to allow for storage of files I do not want to keep on the TF.
Use a hard drive
I just checked out a movie on my WD 500 gig hard drive. Worked perfectly, just plugged the drive into the dock and it mounted right away. If I wanted I could then copy it to my Transformer and delete after use or watch from the drive.

Uhh. Does it work in the tablet. I formatted a 8gb microSD to ntfs and my tab couldn't read it. I must admit it has been at least a month since I tried that. Is the ntfs support something new?

Hmm I swear I tried that when I had a windows comp and couldn't get android to recognize the card when it was formatted as NTFS. Ill have to borrow a friends computer to try again.

Mine has also worked from Day 1(beginning of June) with ntfs.
I was actually worried, as windows vista(the only computer I had with a sd slot) doesn't give you the option to format as fat32 without extra work. But since the ntfs worked, I've had no problems since.

I did it a couple weeks ago on 8GB microSD. Put in Ubuntu LINUX box and deleted partition, recreated under LINUX as NTFS. However, I did not test in my TF101, because it was for another project.
Good luck.

So you did not test on the TF. So your post seems a bit pointless?
Also for those it works please can you state what brand/size and what sector size you used to format to NTFS etc.

Again another kind of pointless post. Who cares if it works from your hard disk plugged into the dock? I don't carry my dock and hard disk everywhere. The whole point is to be able to use the MicroSD. I am not interested in how well your hard disk works with your dock. Anyone can do that. Sorry but I find these types of reply very frustrating to read.

Yes I used a card reader and formatted it NTFS in my Win7 machine, and did this long ago so no it's not new.
ntfs is not supported out of the box. You need a special kernel.
Most custom roms have it. Or you can format it into ext, but windows doesn't support it, so it won't be able to read it when you put it into cardreader.

Being able to format a microsd card in ntfs is not in question here. I just spent the last hour testing formats.
I used a Sandisk 8gb microSD HC card.
Test 1. Formatted card with NTFS, verified format, copied an mp4 file to the card, stuck it into the microSD card slot on the TF. No joy.
Test 2. Formatted card with FAT32, verified format, copied same mp4 file to the card, stuck it into the microSD card slot on the TF. Well wuddaya know. Works fine.
My conclusion. A microSD card formatted in NTFS will not work in the microSD slot on the TF.
Go figure. Bet somebody will tell me it will work in the dock. Which I don't own so it doesn't apply.
Thank you

Now we are getting somewhere. I really appreciate your short explanation of how it can work. Wish your post was a couple of hours earlier. But hey, I like experimenting. Not ready for rooting yet though.
I'm using Prime 1.6 v2 and it does not read NTFS?

64Gb MicroSD card.

I've received an installed my new SansDisk 64Gb MicroSD card.
Transferred some files into it in my desktop and had go with it in the 7.7.
It does not seem to be recognizing the card...Does not even appear as "External Storage" in "My Files"
For those of you who reported success using 64Gb cards, what's the file system in your card?...exFAT?
Thanks!
XK
Reformatted it as ntfs and install ntfsSd (thanks oyaxai for the great app!). You need root anyway.

I believe mine is formatted fat32. Can you try formatting it in the device?

Installed!...and WORKING !
Sweet, sweet, sweet...I can now see MKVs over 4GBs...
Thank you so much!

(EDIT: Victory claimed too soon, I am afraid... ntfsSd did mount the MicroSD successfully, initially...but them I unmounted and removed the card and copied all the content from my previous card into it, in Windows.
Now,ntfsSd won't mount the card, anymore.
Meanwhile, I've managed to get the 7.7 to recognize the card in exFAt, and reformatted it in the 7.7.
I think I'll leave NTFS alone for a while now...

I loaded a sandisk 64GB. Not sure what file system it was but it was detected as an external disk but not able to mount. Even USB Mass Storage Watcher app, which I love, could not mount it. This really annoyed me since I had spent a good 2 or so hours transferring files onto it via my laptop.
So I formatted it via the tab's settings, which I presume converted it to FAT. I have no problems now, but i also don't use mkvs that exceed the 4GB. I would be interested to hear other people's experiences with NTFS and if they are experiencing the same problems as Khan
Format as ntsf
How do you format it as ntsf? I'm not able to do this. The device automatically formats the SD as fat32.

This is an known issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22617892&postcount=13
- Once unmounted, even after you mount again manually,
Android OS don't detect the sdcard.
You can access it with file managers or other apps,
but stock camera and settings app don't.

That means you may not want to unmount ever after. I know that is not the perfect solution you are looking for.
Also, for your information, 7.7 does not mount exFat (I might be wrong, inform me if you could). The first time you insert an exFat formatted sdcard, it would prompt for reformatting. Your card will be formatted into FAT32.
Yes, it is not very practical, that way...I'll forget NTFS until someone comes up with a more polished solution...now that it has been shown that HC can, indeed, work with NTFS it will be only a matter of time before a more comprehensive solution appears, be it for HC or ICS...I'll wait.
As for the remaining solution, this is my full story:
1. The card is a Sandisk MicroSDXC I Ultra (class 6). It is natively formatted in exFAT.
2. I took it right out of the box, put in the included adapter, inserted it in USB in my desktop, running Windows 7 and transferred some files.
3. Put it in the 7.7 and nothing happened. It was not detected by the system, no incompatibility messages, nothing.
4. I removed it from the 7.7 and tried to format it in the desktop PC. The only otpions Windows would offer were NTFS or exFAT.
5. I formatted it in NTFS and tried to use the card with the "Drive Mount" app in the 7.7. The app would detect and "force mount" the card but the 7.7 file manager wouldn't report it as existing (NOTE: I kept "Drive Mount" installed, as it can still be useful in the future, when using the USB feature to deal with my photo CF cards...This is the only area remaining for me to fully break-in my 7.7, as I am still waiting for the OTG USB reader to arrive).
6. Making good use of your pointer, I installed the "ntfsSd" app, with initial success, as reported. Then the problem in reference manifested itself.
7. I then reformatted the card back in the desktop PC, selecting exFAT as the file system but refrained from adding any content.
8. The 7.7 now recognized the card, displayed the system incompatibility message and I was able to evoke the format option from within HC. The tab reformatted the card in FAT32 and I am now using it with no further problems.
9. So, the thing is (...if I understood it correctly...): When getting a new 64Gb card insert it directly into the 7.7, without using it anywhere else first. It can recognized a non-compatible file system but it won't recognize the very same file system if there's already any content on the card.

[Q] Unable to copy files to 32gb or 64gb microSD card with USB OTG cable

I am having issues with the following setup on my Nexus 7. I have the eForCity Micro USB OTG to USB 2.0 Adapter and the elago Mobile Nano I USB 2.0 microSDHC Flash Memory Card Reader. I have tried two microSD cards, one 32gb and one 64gb and I am unable to copy files to the card using both Root Explorer and ES File Explorer. It says that the copy failed. I have tried formatting the as exFat, NTFS and FAT32 and no luck. Anyone out there experience this?
Thank you in advance,
BD6675
You're missing a piece of the puzzle. If rooted, you should install Stickmount, which mounts external storage using the OTG Usb cable. I use it to read/write and stream media from a 32Gb microsd card using FAT32. Some custom kernels or roms natively support mounting, but I'm just stock, rooted, 4.2.1.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am rooted and I was already using Stickmount. I am able to mount both the 32gb and 64gb cards and see the content on them and access the content on them but I can not copy anything to either card when connected to the Nexus 7. Any other things I can try?
It appears that I need to have the card formatted to FAT32 in order to be able to copy to the card from the Nexus 7. Does this sound correct or is there a way to get the card formatted to NTFS or exFAT?
Some custom kernels and custom roms support NTFS, but I'm just using FAT32 which works perfectly unless you need support for files over 4Gb. Easiest way to get it to work is to just format your storage with FAT32.

this is correct. android reads, but doesn't support writing to NTFS or exFAT natively. some kernels add ntfs-g, which does give you write access, but it's buggy at best.

[Q] videos to ext sd

Is it possible to copy videos stored on n10 to an external SD card?
1) Hook both the the N10 and the SD card up to your computer and copy.
2) Use Stickmount and an OTG cable to copy them.
Thanks, but, looking for a direct solution without use of a computer.

Then use Stickmount with an OTG cable. Plug an SD Card reader into the OTG cable and put your SD Card in it.

I actually have an issue with the SD card - i'm not able to write to it. It is mounted through stickmount and is shown in any explorer ( but not in the storage though) however I can't write to it (nor it is showing the content). I can 'read' the content using Nexus media Importer, but that's pretty much it
Any suggestions?
(i have rooted nexus 10)
Use FAT32 as filesystem. If you intend to store large videos (>4GB), you will have to split them into multiple linked files (using MKVtoolnix for example).
Is FAT32 the recommended way to go with sdcards as a general rule, or just in the OP's case?

fat32 is the read and write format for otg and ntfs is read only. So ya I would recommend fat32.

[Q] TF300T SD card formats supported

Hello all,
Hopefully this is the right forum for this question.
After much searching I am unable to find a definitive answer to this.
I recently put the latest nightly omnirom on my Asus Transformer TF300T (omni-4.4.2-20140104-tf300t-NIGHTLY) and noticed that my NTFS formatted 64GB micro SD card no longer works and is picked up as blank and needs formatting when selected in the file manager.
No problem, I guess there just isn't NTFS support in the kernel yet.
So, my question is, can I re-format the card to EXT3 or EXT4 and be able to use it in omnirom?
Thanks.
I hv alternative solution for u.
Use fat32 formatter to format ur 64gb.
My notebook can use it, my camera hv emergency card... and my phone is happy.

Yeah I know most things work with fat32, however if you want files larger than 4gb (had movies etc) fat32 won't cut it unfortunately.
I have just tried formatting my 32gb and 64gb to fat32 but the still don't pick up, yet it tells me when I eject them there ejected?
Weird, as both cards worked as fat32 and NTFS under the stock kernel and cromix.
I know this is early days so I'm hopeful it will get there, to be honest I'm over the moon that omni even exists for the tf300t as Asus appear to have ditched it.
I'm going to try them in ext3 & 4 next to see if that works.
