[Q] Debugging mode on, no usb connection options - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so i'm trying to adb to my phone. rooted, unlocked, all that done. just trying to adb in. i have debugging on, phone will charge only. not notifications telling me anything. go to developer options, try to change connecting to mtp, or ptp, select it...and...charging only. i turn off debugging and then plug in usb and all options are there and work flawlessly. i am on ubuntu 16.04...all adb is up date, etc...searched and searched...and nothing for my exact problem. thank for any help. not a noob...just a lost tinkerer.
also with debugging on, lsusb doesn't show nexus. but does with debugging off.

So no one has a clue? I've done lots of searching...Everything from updating SDK, Android.rules, deleting keys (there were none), .Android folder keys, everything possible. ADB works in TWRP. Fastboot works. But still same problem...

Device offline in ADB

After following info on XDA and everything I could find elsewhere on the web to no avail, ADB still showed "error; device offline" . I believe I must install new rom in order to start over with computer/device recognition. After "Revoke USB Authorizations" in Settings>Developer Options>USB Debugging, believe that is a permanent revocation until computer is presented with a new system.img, (rom). But I am just noob, please correct me if I'm wrong. So if I'm correct I guess I'll Have to do Factory Reset, lose root, and go through the whole process again

If you do a manual factory reset , never gonna lose the root.

When you "Revoke USB Authorizations" it just clears the current saved devices. Try this, unplug device, use a USB port on back of the computer (sometimes it matters), make sure Developer Options is enabled, USB Debugging enabled, Verify apps via USB unchecked, revoke USB authorizations, then start ADB, plug phone in and wait for it to be recognized by windows, then enter the command "adb devices". The phone should ask if you want to authorize this PC.
If that fails, try a different cable.

I was way off! I found a suggestion on another site that recommended updating sdk. Determined my sdk was version 1.0.29, updated to 1.0.30, and voila returned "device name device" good to go. Thanks so much for the help.

nexus 4 - broken screen and usb debugging turned off

Hi
I have a nexus4 that has a broken screen, it is, it doesnt react to the finger touch, and doesnt have usb debug enabled
What could i do to extract the files from there?
I have seen that connecting a mouse via usb is not an option as this device is not compatible with that, so i think the only option i have is to flash the device to have usb debugging enabled
Is there any other option i can explore?
Thanks
I am sure that you can enter your recovery assuming that your power + vol button is still functioning.
Try to connect your device using Wug Tool and use the tool to back up all the files.
Give it a try and let us know.

Thanks
Yes, i can get in recovery, but, i assume i would need to unlock the bootloader first, isnt it? If i do it, i will erase all the documents inside
Hi
I have tried getting into recovery, but, as expected, as usb debugging is not enabled, i cant see the device from adb
So, the key question is... how can i enable usb debug in a device with the screen broken and with bootloader locked, without wiping the data?
Thanks
It is possible to turn on usb debugging?
I have clean phone - after factory reset.

Nexus 6p 7.1.1 can't authorize USB debugging

When I enable USB debugging on my phone I don't get the option to authorize my PC.
Make sure your drivers are installed correctly. If you used a toolkit, uninstall them and then reboot. Install them using the Android SDK. If the drivers are installed correctly, click the "Revoke USB Debugging Authorizations" option from developer settings. Toggle USB debugging off and back on, then unplug the phone and plug it back in. Should pop up for you.

Usb debugging blocked by knox?

I've enabled developer options and usb debugging. I can successfully mtp files but no matter how many times I clear and reauth my debugging permissions adb shows the device as unauthorized and easytether wont work either. I've never seen the debugging mode icon come up, only ever mtp. Did these clowns really go to such lenghts to not only lock the bootloader but disable things like debugging period?

How to recover files from a phone with broken screen? (OP6T)

Hi, I'm an OnePlus 6T owner and I have problem. I recently broke the display of my phone and now the screen can't turn on. Is there a way to extract the files from the phone? My default mode for connecting to a computer is charging and I can't simply transfer the files to my PC. Also, I don't think I have USB debugging on. If anyone knows a method that I can try, please post it.
I don't know if this requires usb debugging to be on but trying "adb pull" might work.

It does.
The first thing I do is turn on USB debugging on all my phones.
Right after BL unlock and root that is.
