Reason drain battery at night (I'm not sure). - Sony Xperia XA Guides, News, & Discussion

This is just my opinion when I use this phone, Xperia XA.
I have just bought it for 5 days. At night, cell standby eats my battery about 40%. So I check in Setting -> About phone -> Status -> SIM status and you know what I see: SIM card I use for calls is EDGE and another one I use for mobile data is HSPA (I didn't turn on mobile data). I guess calls SIM should be GSM (EDGE is for data too, not only text and call) and data SIM should be GSM too (or at least is EDGE or GPRS), because I didn't turn on mobile data so I think that is problem that eat my battery.
Both EDGE and HSPA (or HSPA+) is for data, it consume more battery than GSM.
Another surprise is when I take 1 SIM out my phone, I turn on my phone, switch it to LTE(prefered)/WCDMA/GSM. Check again at same place (SIM status) - I didn't turn on data, too. And I saw, my SIM card, with no data, running at LTE (my signal is 0). So I came up with this, Xperia XA choose wrong mobile type network, make it drain fast.
I just want you guy who use XA, do same thing that I do and check if it wrong.
Thank you you guy.
UPDATE: Check my conclusion downthere.

Hey, after a night with out SIM 2, SIM 1 run at EDGE, I only lost 3% (from 99% to 96%). That really good.
Sorry, I can't upload screenshot. Internet at my country is down.
In Battery (Setting):
Cell standby: 40%.
Phone idle: 44%.

Conclusion
Way to fix battery drain problem by cell standby (for Dual SIM XA - mine is F3116):
At night, deactivate Data SIM, switch another to GSM only and sleep. I only lost 3% after 8 hours.
When you wake up, activate Data SIM and enjoy the day.
Hope it help you guy.

Battery with 3g

Has anyone experienced the drain on the battery with 3g, as my Battery does not last a night when using 3g, but I was in the 3g free zone (gsm only) during the weekend and the battery lasted the whole weekend.
My battery will drain 50% quicker when in a 3G area, Somtimes I set the device to use standard GSM frequencies to keep the battery alive.
I'd guess it is the switching that causes the battery drain (at least this is the case with most 3G phones ) if you spend a lot of time (i.e. your workplace or home) on a "borderline" area your battery will get sapped pretty quickly
Setting the phone to use one band and stick to it (practically , this has to be GSM / 2g for a constant signal ) is the best soloution , until such time as blanket 3G coverage
Pain in the neck really

same with me, i need to plug in the charger every ~40 hours. i live i 3G area, also using web'n'walk often...
I get way less than this. I have push email enabled, which keeps the internet connected constantly. However in my house I only get one-bar of 3g - often flipping to full four-bar GPRS
I only get about 24 hours between charges!
I have got serious 3G battery draining problems too.
How do I set up the TyTN to only use 2G ??
Thanks,
Martin
- Tap the phone icon on the top menu bar;
- Select settings;
- Select band;
- For select your network type: select GSM
- For select your GSM/UMTS band: select Auto
This setting works great for me on Cingular on an old AT&T SIM in and around Washington, DC. THe battery life is also very good. Also remember as posted on another thread in this forum that even if you do not have 3G yet in your area, if you get EDGE, you will see faster speeds on the TyTN. The TyTN has a new feature called Extended TBF Release which improves the overall throuput.

Help please, 2G & 3G problem

Hi guys,
I just bought the HTC Legend, I'm loving it, but I have a very big problem. The problem is that I want to force the phone to stay on EDGE and not going to 3G to save some battery. Now, if I put the phone to GSM Only, it won't make any data connection, but if I put it to GSM or WCDMA Auto, the phone works perfectly.
Please can anyone help? my phone is running out of battery with only about 4-5 hours of regular usage (little chat, 4-5 short calls, emails, a bit a of web browsing)...I'm sure that I'm not abusing. is it normal that the battery only last for just a few hours?
Please advise, thank you!!

According to the specs, 2G doesn't actually increase your battery life much, if at all.
Unless of course you're in an area where 3G is spotty and switching/finding 3G coverage can eat up the battery.

[MOD REQUEST] Switch to 2G when screen off

I know this is one app we can try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739530#
But it can't disable switching while do tethering. Can we have this flexible function that we can customize from Settings menu?
I noticed our SGSIII can switch off and on WIFI when the screen on and off. It's good if our SGSIII already have the function what I want and it good enough to now what we do when the screen off, it will not switch to 2G when we do tethering and downloading.

If network idle, it 's will auto down to 3G umts or HPDPA to keep the battery life.
1 hour with auto sync-> 1-1.5%
2g can save battery ?i think not so much with network online.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
As I remember correctly AOKP has this feature under their powersaving settings. From what I can tell from my I9000 I always lost mobile data connection entirely when turning screen back on... took 10-60 seconds to get an active 3G data connection again. That kinda really pissed me off cuz it is very likely you need your internet connection when pulling the phone out and turning the screen on ... and in that case having no connection really sucks.
So I never used that option (besides using manual 2G limitation if wanted).

Thanks for the info. My home town just have 2G connection. I think it's better if it directly connected via 2G, rather than the phone continuously searching 3G line.

weak signal strength

my mi a1 signal strength is very low.drop frequently from 4g network to 3g or even in 3g network have low strength and voice call doesn't have proper quality.i compare a1 with my other phone in the same room and the other phone doesn't have this problem for example if a1 have 10-11 asu signal in 3g network the other phone have 15 16 asu signal strength.so my questions:
1-anybody else have the same problem and if there is a solution for that
2-this kind of problems can be fix by software update or is hardware problem and something related to design and material of the phone and can't be fix by update?
My problem is Same
Same problem in my phone after december update no improvment
mine never have any network 4G or 3G issue.. it's working fine indoor an outdoor

Try putting the SIM in the second slot.
Worked for me....
I got a network issue too and 2nd sim doesn't stay to 2g only if 1st is selected as data. Consuming most of battery due to this. This happened after the first update. Please check of anyone else too has this :/

i think maybe a little bit better but the problem didn't go away.i compare every network,in 4g and 2g network a1 behind other phones but in 3g network has good signal
does anyone know if this kind of problem can be fix by software update or it's a problem with hardware or design (maybe unibody design blocking signal)of the phone?

i didn't understand what was the problem exactly but in my phone you can select one of two sim for data and the sim select for data automatically change to 4g/3g and the other sim will go to 2g only. if you have two sim active it's normal to drain battery a little more but i can't complain about the battery i think it's good overall

my secondary sim can find 2g or 3g network but no 4g.4g only available to data sim.maybe VoLTE call can be the reason?(my carrier doesn't support VoLTE call)
try this:data sim in 4g ok.the other sim is for call only.dial *#*#4636#*#* then go to phone information set preferred network type to GSM only

This changed the primary sim to 2g and for 5 min secondary sim found 2g and again it was on 3g. I have weak network for 3g 4g at my place, due to phone switching to 3g 4g I get higher battery drain. My old phone kept my secondary sim to 2g only. I think A1 has issue keeping phone to 2g only

for me working.this 4636 menu will change the sim selected for call and SMS (you can select sim one or two for call and SMS) to 2g and the other sim(data sim) will not show in menu. I select that GSM option and several hours later still on GSM.but after that don't go in cellular network-->network operators and search for network maybe that can change setting to defualt.you can check if you are still in 2g mode in 4636 menu or in setting-->about phone-->Status-->SIM status

Ok I got it , I don't use secondary sim for anything else then receiving the call. So i didn't make it default anywhere. After making it default to calls I could see the option in 4636 for secondary sim. So this solution doesn't work in my condition, I don't know why the just keep the secondary sim to 2g only . I have reported this couple of time but no changes. Hope they find this issue in Oreo update

Data connection loss (on Tele2) hangs on H+

Hi all.
I’m experiencing a problem with my dataconnection which renders my data connection almost unusable.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction!
The situation, I am using a Oneplus 6T with 2 sim-cards. One for calls one for data. The sim I use for data loses the connection multiple times while commuting to work (train).
It happens on the same locations so I assume it has to do with switching between towers. The connections completly drops to no signal (the other card still has a signal).
After the connection drop one of the following happens:
- Reconnect to 4G after a few secons to minute(s)
- Reconnects to H+ and stays connected to H+ until I switch aiplane mode on and off). Even when getting of the train and waiting on the same spot it hangs on H+ until I use airplane mode.
What did I already try.
- New SIM card from provider (Tele2)
- Complete profile reset by provider and check of APN settings
- Tried both SIM slots
- Tried the SIM card in another telephone (connection does not completely drop)
- Use another provider (T-Mobile) with this phone. The data connections seems to work fine on T-Mobile.
So it looks like a combination between Tele2 and the Oneplus.
(By the way Tele2 falls back to h+ and 3g from T-mobile if they can't provide 4G)
Thanks for reading and all tips and tricks.
