Will the T280 get Marshmallow - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

Hi I own a T280.
It is running Lollipop 5.1.1.
I read on the internet that it will get Marshmallow and they in fact have started rolling out.
Who of you works for Samsung and can confirm this?
Or are the websites that are telling this full of [email protected]#$?
Thanks!

Best way to check for me is to look at https://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-T280. If the device indeed has marshmallow rolling out, you should be seeing 6.0.1 based firmwares. Unfortunately there are none. If you were to ask me, this device should have been shipping marshmallow from the get go given the time of its release.

From what I read it was suppose to happen in December. The Nook 7 is the same tablet and they already released the owner manual for Marshmallow. So I hope that means it's coming soon or something to that effect... I only want Marshmallow for 1 lonely little feature "Adoptable storage" which I understand on Samsung devices I'll have to get a patch for it to work, but still should be better then App2SD which is great but not perfect.

Note 4 strange update before 5.1.1

So I have a Lithuanian note 4 8 core version and I'm using in the UK. And I plugged into kies and I saw a 1.7 gb update I thought I'll do it over the air instead and tried that and a 25 mb download happened installed and now nothing! I'm still on 5.0.1 and it says I have the latest update . Surely the 5.1.1 is coming? Did you guys see an update like this? Thanks. Ps i could be a little out in the sizes of the packages I guess

Kies downloads the full firmware, so it will always be big. OTAs are usually smaller.
And about the 5.1.1. update, it'll be available when samsung wants it to, no one knows
I don't think it will happen before the Note 5 launch(I hope I am wrong though).
Hmmm yes I see the 5.1.1 update is 623mb as well. Very strange to get that 25mb update after none since lollipop came guess the main one will turn up later....must be some kind of preparation update...guess I thought almost everyone had the main update now...

So your not wrong, September's on top of us & the Note 5 is out, still Samsung doesnt give it's late 2014-2015 flagship, Galaxy Note 4 5.1.1 Lollipop. Even Android M is out on preview for a while now to Nexus devices to try. Im so pissed off at the way thing have been. We got their top of the line, best phone & we get treated like ****. If the spec's of Sammy phones werent so good, i'll say goodbye forever to Samsung.
I'll be happy to get 5.1.1 by the end of this year. Android M? ha! gimme 5.1 and we'll talk about Marshmallows!

6.0 and emui 4 please

Well I just got my honor 5 and wanted to upgrade the software, emui says it's 3.1 and when I put the check for updates it says there are no available. Nether when I check my lollipop 5.1.1 to got to Marshmallow. No upgrade available.
My cellphone was one of the Prime Day 120 bucks, KIW-L24c56.
Is there something I should do? I know very few of cellphones, but at least my moto g2 asked me itself to upgrade to Marshmallow which I did, apparently this has Marshmallow upgrade also but nowhere to be found.
Than you.
Wait for it its not fully out yet.. it takes some time.

Check out this thread. It gives detailed instructions to download the official update and install it.
im checking the hihonor website and there is no 6.0 upgrade
Is it just me or no one else can see it ?
http://www.hihonor.com/us/support/
Well... so far no luck upgrading.
I'm new in this subforum (just got my KIW-L24 last night) and have no idea what the "-c56" on your model number is so hopefully I'm not wasting your time, but
I was able to update mine to marshmallow using this update package that was provided in this thread.
Just make a "dload" folder on your internal storage and extract the update file from the zip to it. Then in system update on the phone, hit menu and local update... should walk you through from there.
Hope this helps!
well apparently Huawei pulled out the update because there were some issues with the phones, they are gonna work on it and put the update on L24 with Marshmallow 6 and Emui 4 back when everything is resolved.

Did you hear this from Huawei? I'm thinking the same thing and posted this in another thread, but was wandering if it was officially a problem.
See below:
They have removed marshmallow from the site. It's not official, but I believe they are doing some work to it. It was extremely laggy and had poor battery life and performance compared to lollipop. I reverted back after running it.
You guys would be better off waiting to see what repairs are done to it.
When you click on the support site, look to the right under manuals
http://www.hihonor.com/us/support/
You will see how to rollback officially from Marshmallow, if there were no problems, I'm pretty sure that would NOT be listed the same day marshmallow was removed from the site

Yea, I wrote to them and they replied me that there were some issues regarding the update. One day there was the update and the other it wasnt, so I asked them and they said their engineers are looking into it and as soon as possible its gonna be back posted on the website.
amazing how these buggy updates make it through testing to get released, beyond belief & biggest drawback with current phones is crappy firmware & apps , programming, testing & design rules needs massive improvement ...
Android itself is big part of problem ...
Funny how CM has a better software compared yo such big brand Honor/Huawei
Just now at the Honor US support site.
There is this
KIW-L24, Android 6.0.1,EMUI 4.0,C567D003,United States
for download.
Hope it is the patched version.
yea I just entered the website and saw it too.
Im gonna wait a while to see if things are patched, apparently the patch is the same as the one before so Ill wait a bit until people test it out.

The files are dated 7/25/16
nothing changed in the about phone screen, I assume it's just bug fix for the memory leaks and bad battery

I am sure that this is what I put on my daughters phone yesterday, but it still shows as B331 in the about phone screen. Can anyone else confirm this?
well I got 6.0.1 and new Emui in my cellphone OTA. Just this morning I got an update and after downloading and installing it was the new version.
Phone seems a bit laggy and not as fast as 5.0, is this normal for 6.0? Or just me?

someone else had posted something similar also for the T280 in the development thread (one of those either by jedid or ashyx). It turned out be a 5.0.1 (for some reason was incorrectly listed as 6.0.1) Not sure if this is the real thing or the same incorrect listing

I got a bug fix and security patch (Jan '17) update a few days ago, still lollipop though. I doubt we'll get marshmallow, we would've got it by now if they were going to give it to us, I don't mind too much because it pretty much caters for my needs as it is. Don't pin your hopes on a custom ROM either, this doesn't seem like much of a popular device, at least the model running a spreadtrum processor anyway.

Google is sending the Android 7.0 OTA update to Nexus 6 phones running 7.1.1

If you're on 7.1.1 and get an update notification, be careful!
http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...-7-0-ota-update-nexus-6-phones-running-7-1-1/
Also under discussion on reddit. May be isolated to T-Mobile, but not sure. I'm running 7.1.1 with the March update on Project Fi, and haven't seen anything yet.
Just came across this online. That would suck if someone got an OTA and accepted it. Ouch.......Good thing there's custom ROMs. ?. But yeah....Beware everyone.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Why would anyone accept an update to 7.0 when that person clearly sideloaded and knows that they are running 7.1.1? Clearly that person was curious and bit them in the ass on first boot after the "upgrade".
What is Google doing.. Unbelievable
This was posted on reddit from a "Nexus Comminuty Manager". Seriously- WTF?
Hey All,
There was a recent OTA update for Android 7.0 that is causing confusion for some Nexus 6 users. For those of you that want to guarantee future OTA updates, you will need to get back on the 7.0 supported track. If you are experiencing issues after accepting the 7.0 update, please factory reset your device to help resolve any problems.
For any Nexus 6 users that want to continue flashing/sideloading future builds, you can stay on 7.1.1 and continue to do so.
Hope this clarifies! Nexus Community Manager

I'm just glad I flash the factory images when they're available and don't wait for OTAs, but this is beyond my comprehension.

That actually does make sense though.
Google's response on that thread is stellar. I really can't believe how poorly they've handled N on our device. Making me second guess a Pixel 2 right now.
has there been any confirmation / clarification that after accepting the 7.0 "update", the latest 7.1.1 OTA will be immediately available for updating?
dont want to be stuck on 7.0 till april
This is funny, got my 6p yesterday
Better not move to pixel, if Google behave like that.
Custom Community vs. Burning money
2 years support on a phone plus or minus a few months for security updates is not enough for the price they are commanding.
Big disappointment... expensive phone trashed like a low end one...
Now the question is: will security patches come in both 7.1.1 and 7.0 forms?
They will for a while. In the U.S. at least, the Nexus 6 has been getting patched for 6.1, 7.0, and 7.1.1 for the last several months, depending on what carrier's SIM card was in the phone. It sounds like the patches to 6.1 may now be done with T-mobile and Fi now on 7.0. With any luck, next month will bring them all to 7.1.1, but I am not holding my breath with the way the update round has been rolling.
I am currently on 7.1.1 N6F26Q whic I think is the January update. I have not seen a March update yet but I am sure it should have come. Perhaps because I sideloaded the 7.1.1?
Presumably I can download this and sideload it to get to the March update and hopefully correct the speaker phone issue without losing data using the instructions on this page

No, monthly security patches at least through this September.
I think what he was trying to say was that because the "supported" track for the N6 is Android 7.0 and not Android 7.1.1, any security updates we see will only be for Android 7.0, meaning no security updates for Android 7.1.1. Given how Google has dangled the carrot for us with Android 7.1.1 and then suddenly snatched it back it wouldn't surprise me if ending support for Android 7.1.1 on the N6 is what ends up happening.

She thinks that the Nexus 6 is done with security updates no matter if you are on 7.0 or 7.1.1. But we'll know over time.
Google should be more clear on that and just say whats up
FYI: Just did a full factory reset here and got 7.1.1 with March update. Phone runs even smoother now. 1st reset I have ever done.

How offten upgade?

Hi,
How offten is some fix/uprade for this phone?
It depends on who you ask.
Since its andriod one device official response is superfast updates and fixes.
Reality not so fast as of right now. Oreo was released and then pulled. So new users can't update to oreo from nougat through update (settings).
Hope that changes in coming months
The official wording is "monthly security updates", so it should be pretty regular. They just tripped over their own feet rolling out Android Oreo for the Mi A1, apparently they were not quite ready yet but released anyways because they had promised to do so. Presumably that will get better over time
You will definitely have one of the most up-to-date Android phones. My OnePlus X was still running Marshmallow with no official update in sight, so Nougat is already a pretty good update. I expect that it will take them another month to properly roll out Oreo. Android P is also promised, so you will very likely get the next major update as well next year.
