Screen locks up - HTC Bolt / 10 Evo Questions & Answers

Anyone else? I push the power button to turn the screen on and the soft keys light up and no screen. It has been happening every couple of hours for the past 3 days. Any ideas or suggestions?
Sent from my 2PYB2 using Tapatalk

Never had it happen to me. There's a new update seeding out. Maybe that will help? Have wiped your cache? I had to do that after a factory reset to get my WiFi working correctly.

Got the update has not happened today the only thing I can figure at this point is I had cellular back up set up on Google photos turned that of and SEEMS to have helped
Sent from my 2PYB2 using Tapatalk

Yes, super annoying, HTC and Sprint should address
Any progress on a solution? Please acknowledge with a comment on my YouTube video. With a rooted rom, the screen blackout issue causes a reboot. My phone is barely usable at this point. Blackouts happen randomly and can hardly unlock it. About to send it back to HTC as sprint wants to charge me 75 bucks to look at it.
Search, HTC Bolt blackout problem, I'm not allowed to post links here.
Hopefully can be fixed in software.

Since I posted I have taken the update cleared cache and turned google photos settings to insult update on Wi-Fi when charging I have not had any issues since those 3 things

I just cleared cache and disabled photo uploading. How did you figure it was google photos? I'll report back.

Still having the problem after the suggestions. Blacks out on pretty much any long press: to drag an icon, swype, etc.

Mine did not black out I was only having an issue with the screen not waking up
Sent from my 2PYB2 using Tapatalk

I noticed that it happened again and when the screen turned on the camera was open. I have removed the camera from my lock screen short cuts... Will report back

Keep me updated. I turned off all screen gestures and unlock screen options.

Happened 2x today just a thought I noticed that the edge of my screen protector is covering half way on the front facing camera will change it when I get home. Perhaps messing with the sensor????

My bolt has no case, still happens.

I also disabled auto brightness, but didn't help. Ran in safe mode, didn't help. But it never messed up in boatloader menu, so perhaps software issue. If there is stock android Rom without sense that can run on bolt, I'd like to load it to see if problem is still there. Is there one?

I had a similar issue, mine went crazy and was rebooting randomly thought out the day as well though. I never rooted or anything. I ended up sending it back to HTC they have had it for a week and it's still "in repair". I started to tap the back of the phone when the screen wouldn't turn on and it eventually would work for whatever that's worth

I narrowed the problem down. Any firm press or swipe on the upper half of the screen blacks out the screen and can cause a reboot. Also sending or back to HTC. Luckily I have a backup phone.

Did you get your phone from HTC or sprint
Sent from my 2PYB2 using Tapatalk

I bought it through sprint

And you still had to send to HTC?
Sent from my 2PYB2 using Tapatalk

Got mine through Sprint too. Here is another video of the problem

Sprint warranty is like 20 days. HTC warranty is longer.

Mine does not do that at all. Only has issues waking up

calibrate screen sensitivity?

Hello everyone,
Curious if anyone is having the same issue as me? I have tried multiple roms, stock, with and without kernels.
I am having some touch issues. Either I have to press harder then normal at times or multiple times for my press to register. Its getting quite annoying. Not sure if this is a defect or if i can modify something within the system files to make the screen more sensitive or if there is even a way to re-calibrate my sensors/screen?
Thank you in advance,
DFL
Did you figure out what was wrong? ... It just started to do the same with me... Even to right this was a pain in the a$$...

Well, I've rebooted in recovery mode, wiped the cache and it's back to normal now... I know it's just a temp solution, but you might wanna give it a try

hmmm... wiping cache fixed? i bet systemcleanup active would help then. I will take your advice and try out that app systemcleanup on my tab. I use on my phone Nexus S just didnt think the N7 would need it due to its specs.
Thanks mate, ill give it a go.

Has anyone decided if this is a hardware or software problem? I've started having the same issue. Turning off the screen sometimes fixes it for me but not always. A reboot always fixes it.
Like just now... I was playing Zenonia 2 and in the middle of a battle I suddenly couldn't get the touchscreen to respond. I hit power to lock the device and immediately tried to turn it back on with power again... but I couldn't even get the unlock screen to work. I set it down for about 30 seconds and when I tried again it was fine. I pulled the game back to the top and it worked fine.
When this happens the "soft" buttons (back, home, etc) always seem to work just fine, so I'm inclined to say it's really a software problem.
Running stock + root.
My thought is that it has to be a hardware issue, or if everyone with the issues is rooted than it could be from the root. My device has fantastic response however I am not rooted.

I would think hardware as well, but the home and back buttons always work and they use the same touch surface...
I got the same thing here and rebooting appears to fix it. Sometimes it is so bad that I cannot move icons from one screen to another.
Did you guys try flashing stock 4.1.1 using fastboot or the toolkit? If that does fix it then its probably hardware problem.

I had the same problem ! solved by turning off the screen and turn on it
I have the same issue and mine isn't rooted yet so I don't think it is an issue with that. A wipe of the device doesn't help but a reboot usually does. This is my second N7 as the first was a warranty replacement for the headphone jack issue. The first never had the issue so I think it is an issue that should be addressed. I am outside my 14 days so I might have to go through Asus now.
---------- Post added at 01:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:50 PM ----------
For what it is worth, I just called Google and they are going to send me a new one. The lady that assisted me stated that she has had a few complaints with this issue and that they just replace it. N7 #3 should be on the way in a couple days. For some reason she said that the device wasn't set up properly in my profile so it will add a couple days to the process because of the long weekend.
Not a big deal. I have lived with it for a while now. At least they appear to be taking care of it and I wasn't transferred to Asus. At least yet.

Horizontal lines at certain viewing angles

I am not having a happy time with Nexus 7 3g
I have had a 16GB N7 since August and loved the screen
However I am now on my 3rd replacement 3g and this one appears to have horizontal artifacts on across the whole screen at viewing angles that are slightly off dead centre.
So far I my 1st 3g was very yellow, second had stuck pixel and now this, not sure if I can be bothered to go for another exchange
Anyone else seen this issue or know if it goes away over time.

I believe this is normal. I notice the lines too if you tilt the Nexus 7 at particular angles. I don't think it's a build quality issue. Is this normal guys?

Lockscreen freezes after sleep

Hello!
Just got my Nexus 4 and I am loving it. But my Lockscreen sometimes freezes when I hit the power on button, or it is at least unresponsive. I have to turn off the screen and turn it on again to unlock. This happens everytime the phone has been locked for a while.
Any fix for this issue or should I get my phone replaced? Seems software related

I have the same issue and wants to know the reason.
I have the same problem, and I think i have found a way to replicate the issue.
1. Turn off the screen.
2. Wait around 5 seconds.
3. Put three fingers on the screen at the same time.
4. And immediately without moving the fingers turn on the screen.
At this time the touchscreen doesn't respond or it has some kind of lag and you have to reunlock the screen to make it work again.
Can anyone test this?
Sorry for my english.

I can reproduce using this method. It's very annoying when it happens in the wild though, I was unable to unlock at all the other day, had to power off and on the device. Also wasn't able to answer a call !!!

i have the same issue too. I thought my unit was defective.
So is this a software or hardware issue?
Hi,
I seem to have the same issue. It renders my phone useless. While trying to figure out what exactly is affecting it. I found if i enable under developer option >> input >> show touches the next time this issue happens i can see that the phone screen is constantly being touched (w/o having any finger on screen).
I am also awaiting any solution for this issue.
Let's just hope that this can be corrected with software.

Cracked screen, sending device back to LG, but need to wipe it first, without screen

My screen cracked on my N4 and I am sending to LG to get repaired. I want to wipe the device first, but my screen is unresponsive. I don't have USB debugging enabled, but I can see my N4 directories if I plug the phone into the PC.
Is there anyway to flash images or even power off the device? I can turn the screen on, but the screen won't work. So I can't even power it off or boot into bootloader. Any ideas?
Well, I figured out a way. I remembered I had Cerberus installed with the ability to wipe the phone and SD card remotely, so that is what I did.
If the phone is on/ awake hold the power button for about 15secs. Then boot into recovery, up col and power I believe, then wipe data. Not sure the button combo to do that though. Probably up then down x 3 then power. But don't quote me. I don't have my N4 yet so if someone can try it and record the exact button steps that would be great.
This is assuming you don't have a custom ROM or recovery.

Also...funny thing is, I had an RMA with google already because I had yellow tinting on the screen when it got warm. The RMA arrived the same day I cracked the screen. So I called Google and told them and asked if I could just buy the new one and not send my old one back. They said that was fine. So, when the cracked screen gets fixed by LG, I will have an addition N4.
I'll take it for $325! Lol you know,as a helpers bonus...or something

Haven't heard that sound but I did notice my phone now makes a sound when I turn off the screen, which I don't mind. It must've come built into the MF9 update, perhaps your new sound did as well.
Strange part is, I've been on mf9 since day one. This all started around 7pm or so today... After changing nothing at all. No settings changes or anything. Just really odd.

So getting rid of touch sounds gets rid of the beep. Anyone experiencing this like me? Makes the same beep as plugging in to usb/charger every time the screen goes from landscape to portrait.

Never heard of that one. Unless you have the screen touch sounds on and are somehow touching the screen when you are rotating it.
