Galileo satellite navigation - Sony Xperia XZ Guides, News, & Discussion

Galileo satellite navigation
I hope for the future the xz will get Galileo satellite navigation support. According to Qualcomm website the Snapdragon 820 is capable to use Galileo, but it seems sony won't deliver drivers till now.

People in the X concept program could test and report to Sony.
Hopefully then it makes in with the 7.1.1 update.

Even the app GPSplus has Galileo support and an option to show the satellites of the different positioning systems. I hope too Galileo makes it in upcoming sony-updates. Even more because the snapdragon820 is ready for Galileo. I'm not in the X concept program, even i don't know any person in that program.

Thank you very much for the information. I hope sony will implement it soon. If not, sony should feel shame. The hardware of the xz is more than sufficient for galileo and from qualcom it's supported from the software side too.
Let's hope the best.

seems the xzpremium has Galileo support, I hope with next update the XZ will get it too.

NEWS: ANT+ for Xperia x8

Sony Ericsson and ANT+ equals fitness with Xperia™ arc
Marcus Hansson explains more about ANT+.
At Sony Ericsson we are very pleased to announce that we will be the first mobile handset manufacturer to have integrated support for ANT+ technology. This means that you will be able to use your Sony Ericsson phone with a large number of commercial health and fitness products. For example, you can use your phone with a heart rate monitor, a pedometer, or both, when you are out running.
There are number of different ANT+ enabled sensors and devices available in the market today. In addition, there are a large number of ANT+ supported apps to collect, analyze, compare and share your data in various ways. These devices and apps can turn your Sony Ericsson handset into a main hub for fitness and health activities, as well as for communication and entertainment.
ANT+ is a seamless and reliable digital wireless communication standard with excellent power efficiency. It facilitates the collection, automatic transfer and tracking of sensor data for monitoring information. Today more and more companies are joining the ANT+ Alliance, which is a partner alliance striving for the growth of the ANT+ ecosystem. This ensures compatibility with other leading suppliers all throughout the ecosystem. With the release of Xperia™ arc, Sony Ericsson is the first handset manufacturer to have integrated support for ANT+. The ANT+ support will also be introduced in Sony Ericsson Xperia™ X8, Xperia™ X10 mini, and Xperia™ X10 mini pro through software upgrades in Q1 2011. Several future Sony Ericsson Android™ devices will also support ANT+ technology.
Stay tuned to the Sony Ericsson Developer blog and to Sony Ericsson’s Developer World for more information. You can also read more on the ANT+ web site.

As said in the video, "… and X8 will have this enabled in the forthcoming software upgrade in Q1 2011"
Could this be part of an Android upgrade? Or do they by "software upgrade" refer to apps? Either way, it's a cool feature.
We need 2.3 for that so we will get android update.
I think because this writing in SE blog.
Yeeeee they are chance that we will get 2.3 but when?
Who cares .. it's completely useless and sony will not deliver froyo on their phones.
Anyone still owning xperia, google "ZTE Blade" :

2. froyo and custom roms
3. amoled screen

Do you mean that Ant+ requires Android 2.3 to run? Because of Xperia ARC, which uses 2.3 to run Ant+?

Hopefully this "software upgrade" will have to include an Android update, too.
Btw, Xperia users, join this community on Facebook:
"Petition: Android 2.2 (Froyo) for Sony Ericsson Xperia series"
I would like to highlight that all the news regarding the discontinuance of Froyo (Android 2.2) is related to the X10 FAMILY and X10 HANDSETS.
X8 does not belong to this family or these handsets, does it? Furthermore, the upcoming ANT+ feature will come to X10 mini, X10 mini pro and X8 - SE again, specifically, omitted the X10! The ANT+ feature will become available through a "software upgrade"!
They are either being unclear about the way they announce things or they are being VERY specific.

The x8 DOES belong to the x10 family, its seen as the mid size/range x10... if you bothered to read the first line from the article linked above about an official announcement from SE UK, you'd see yourself...
Sony Ericsson UK have officially confirmed with us this morning that the Xperia X10 family (including the X8) will not see an Android firmware revision above 2.1)

They'll do an update to 2.1 to make this ANT+ feature work, they wouldn't announce no further updates past 2.1, but secretly be developing 2.2 etc for the x10 family of handsets, its bad for business if they do...
We wont b getting 2.2 or 2.3 whatsoever, juz an update in the future n we will still on 2.1..
Accept the truth my frens, we will stuck on 2.1 forever.. Thts it, no more SE phones for me..
Yeah, SE confirm no more update new FW for X10 family and no hope for X8, epic fail....
we arent stuck. sometime someone will crack ****ed se loader and we will get froyo..
p.s. i think there wont be gingerbread coz it will run too slow.. recomended hardware is 1GHz cpu..

I haven't seen/been able to dig up any information directly from Sony Ericsson that mentions the X8. It only seems to be mentioned in the article you refer to.
Regardless of that … If the X8 is considered part of the X10 family then we are truly screwed.
However, I am curious regarding the Ant+ feature. Why did they omit the X10 specifically in their announcement? I find it odd that the X10 - supposedly - doesn't support the hardware for Ant+ but the X10 mini, X10 mini pro and X8 does.

This isnt fer anymore
SE don't want to update their current android phones because of marketing.
people will have to buy xperia arc to get android 2.3. good for their bussiness. this is how it's work.
Here what i think.
Many people has buyed many xperia smartphones but the xperia arc isnt like other xperia phones because they are cheap but xperia arc isnt.
What happen to us that will scare customers to so maybe they give update.

2.3.4 Update in October

http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/produ...eat-news-about-our-latest-gingerbread-update/
Upgrade at a glance:
Xperia™ smartphones to be upgraded to the 2.3.4 version of the Gingerbread platform with new features including Google Talk with Video Chat for smartphones with front-facing cameras
Updated Facebook inside Xperia™ functionality for enhanced like, share and discover abilities
Xperia™ smartphones introducing world’s first 3D sweep panorama functionality powered by Sony.
The software upgrade enables consumers to turn their Xperia smartphone into a mini-mobile PC by connecting USB peripherals (mouse, keyboard or game controller) to Sony Ericsson LiveDock™ multimedia station. Connect the smartphone to a TV via HDMI to get a big screen experience.
Swipe text input - text input by swiping the finger from one letter to the next
Screen capture - allows the user to share a screen grab from anywhere in the phone
Just hope Swype will be not the only keyboard. I don't want it.
Great for screen capture.
What means
...will start the roll out during October at select markets.
Is this meaning that it will start in October on some markets and will follow other markets in next months?

Not sure why SE announces so early. Why not just wait and announce plus release it at the same time?
Thought it would be already upgrade to Xperia neo, but it seems a downgrade instead.

I makes sense as the new firmware is announced with new features on the comming phone models. I am sure everyone would complain if SonyEricsson had not promised to release this for the existing phone models like our Xperia Arc.
I can just imagine how the discussion would be instead, everyone complaining that SE is not delivering the new firmware to the Xperia Arc etc. It is also bad that they promise to deliver the same firmware to our xperia arcs that they include in the new phones
I am very happy to hear they are continuing to deliver new firmwares with extra functionality this frequent to our "old" arcs. Keeping even new models with allmost the same hardware specifications makes it much easier to continue to develop and improve the firmware which will work on all of the phones. Our Arcs might beging to be left behind when alle the new phone models are released with more powerfull hardware.

The camera is a bit smaller but you do get a 3D like screen and hdmi out. To me it sounds like an upgrade and the 5MP might even deliver as good or maybe even better pictures than the current 8MP camera especially if they have improved the optics as well. Lets wait an see until we see the first reviews how the camera performs.

You're totally wrong. As it's been said before, the only difference is the camera. Because of the Japan Earthquake Sony is having difficulties producing the Exmor R-sensors, so the Neo V is just a regular Neo without the Exmor R sensor. It's just a cheaper Neo. There is nothing better abuot the Neo V.
Looking forward to this update, in particular the 3D panorama shot. Glad that SE are continuing to release updates like this.
Now if only they would include Smart Dial........
Doesn't seem like much of an update comparing to what we've got with the latest FW. I'm not really looking forward to seeing this one on my arc, but I'm okay with it. Maybe if they add some more features... I hope they will, it's still a month or two until the release.

Are you serious? I mean, you don't have to go mad about the update, but still. You can't expect a lot of new features every update... We're pretty lucky to see so many things getting added at all really. How many manufacturers add so many features to a device after release?
But okay, everyone their opinion. What would you like to see in the next few updates then?

New Gingerbread software available in Nordic countries

In August we announced that a new software version will be available for all 2011 Xperia™ models during October. I’m happy to share the information that the roll out has already started in the Nordic countries for Xperia™ arc, Xperia™ neo , Xperia™ ray and Xperia™ PLAY.
The roll out for the rest of the world is planned to start late October going into early November. The update will be available for all unlocked phones and most operator variants but there will be local deviations. As soon as the roll out starts globally, we will inform you here on the blog. We’ll try to also keep you continuously updated on the kit release. For a complete list of kits released up until now, please check comments below.
Some of the features you will get from this update are:
Google Talk with Video Chat for smartphones with front-facing cameras
Updated Facebook inside Xperia™ functionality for enhanced like, share and discover abilities. We have talked about Facebook inside Xperia™ on previous posts.
Xperia™ smartphones introducing world’s first 3D Sweep Panorama functionality powered by Sony.
The software upgrade will enable consumers to turn their Xperia™ smartphone into a mini-mobile PC by connecting USB peripherals (mouse, keyboard or game controller) to Sony Ericsson LiveDock™ multimedia station. Connect the smartphone to a TV via HDMI to get a big screen experience.
Gesture input – text input by swiping the finger from one letter to the next
Screen capture – allows the user to share a screen grab from anywhere in the phone
For a glimpse of the new software, check out the video from the guys at Developer World.
http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/produ...rbread-software-available-in-nordic-countries
This makes no sense. Released to Nordic in September but not for the rest of the world until the end of October / beginning of November, a delay of between 6 and 8 weeks.
When this update emerged I thought that Sony Ericsson had finally sorted out their ability to roll out firmware upgrades. Looks like I was completely wrong and that their cack handed mismanagement continues.
When are Sony Ericsson going to get a grip and manage to roll out a firmware upgrade to everyone at the same time. Funny how a company with far less experience in the mobile sector has managed to do this flawlessly for years.
Eeeeh, Is this guy/girl for real?
- Google Talk with Video Chat for smartphones with front-facing cameras.
- The software upgrade will enable consumers to turn their Xperia™ smartphone into a mini-mobile PC by connecting USB peripherals (mouse, keyboard or game controller) to Sony Ericsson LiveDock™ multimedia station
Never mind being a bit late, we already had 2.3.4 on XDA since long, and the front facing camera stuff/thing is also funny.
And where and at what shop is the LiveDock(TM) mulitmedia station available today?

I would say that it does make sense to release it in the Nordic countries first... They are limiting possible bugs to five countries (Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Iceland) so they have a chance to fix them before a global release... I live in Denmark, and I don't mind being a test subject for future updates...

Google Announces Android M - Will Xperia Z1 Ever Get The Update?

Google announced the Android M update at I/O 2015 keynote. Android M takes Android L and optimizes the **** out of it.
- Better battery life
- Android Pay
- Fingerprint support
- USB Type-C
- Enhanced Google Now
- App Permissions
That's a power-packed features list, eh? More about Android M features here. Also, the Android M Developer Preview is already available.
I wonder if the Xperia Z1 would ever get the Android M update, seeing that the Android 5.1 Lollipop update itself won't arrive until August 2015.
highly doubt it!
Yes, an the Android XL also.
If the z had received lollipop, maybe z1 will get android m.......should be possible....
I also highly doubt Z1 will get it. As of right now, I only hope Z1 will receive a fully stable no bug (no battery drain, no sound vollume problem, etc.) 5.1. Besides, I don't think Z1 can get much benefits from M anyway (like those fingerprint support or usb-c or even Android Pay since it's clearly not available everywhere)

Sure an update is always welcomed. It's just that we shouldn't really get our hopes up. In my opinion, It's already Sony's best effort for Z1 if it get 5.1. By the time M is official released, Z1 will probably be way over the 18 month support period by Sony. But who know, just my guess, maybe Sony will surprise us (in a good way )
BTW, is there any dev working on porting Android M developer preview for the Xperia Z1?
I'd like Android M, but if we don't get it then 5.1 had better solve the issue with the mobile radio staying active and causing ridiculous amounts of battery drain.
I guess one thing to keep in mind is that the Z got 5.0.2, so perhaps they will only drop support for the Z given how different the hardware is, while the Z1, Z Ultra and Z1C all share very similar hardware. From what I can tell, the hardware hasn't changed all that much since the Z Ultra aside from the Z3+/Z4 which is using an octa-core S810 compared to the quad-core S800/S801 inside most of the rest of the Z series. Whether that has much sway on development time I wouldn't have any idea.
If they can include Auto Backup for Apps http://developer.android.com/preview/backup/index.html Also using your micro SD card as internal storage.... http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...or-accessed-normally-with-no-additional-apps/
That would be great for those who don't root their handset
Even Z can get updated to 5.1 i think Z1 can at least get 2 more major updates. So yes
Of course not. I understand we all love our devices, but guys, it's just marketing. However, let's hope someone ports it to our Z1, otherwise, we may need to buy something new in the near future.

i think it will recive M because the original z will also receve 5.1.1 so probably the z1 will recive the last android version as android M.

Regarding Nougat Android 7.0 update
We know that you all hoped for a N release and we really wanted to give you one but instead we have to tell you that we won't be able to.
The reasons are both technical and legal. If you followed the N Developer Preview program you know that we didn't release the final DP5. That program ran into some unforeseen limitations (1) that could not be resolved.
This is the reason that both concept and official won't be upgraded to Android N (2).

Seems that Google removed the support for Snapdragon 800/801 from the Kernel, that's what they call unforeseen limitations (the Nexus 5, Snapdragon 800 don't get the update either).
Such an unpopular decision for a very popular device, like z3(c).

Well.... Z3 and Z3 Compact doesn't use any X86 chipset, it uses a arm-based chipset (Snapdragon 801 namely), and the reason Sony can't bring the upgrade to the Z3 and Z3 Compact is becuase Google removed support for the Snapdragon 801.
