This Pixel's dual slot is something else. As often as I flash ROMs, kernels, and different modules, I keep everything on the thumb drive for quick access -- Don't have time to transfer those big zip files from the laptop to the phone every time I have to wipe the darn thing.
Is that so wrong to be a "Pixel nerd"?

Have a link for that USB keychain by any chance. Keeping the things I need for my phone on one of those is an awesome idea! How durable do you think it is? My keys tend to get thrown around and in the summer I'm in the woods and throw them in a book bag so I'm sure I'd get dust/dirt on it

There are all brands of these key USB drives. You won't have problems finding them on Amazon. And the prices are everywhere. It's crazy that the same 32Gb capacity from China is $12, and from LaCie is $75. I have several LaCie 32 giggers but I don't remember paying that much for them. They're extremely reliable durable (but slow to write to) -- I've had them in the washing machine a few times.
Here's a better idea. Instead of getting a drive like this, then having to carry around the Pixel dongle, I'm going to get a USB C flash drive instead. It's cheaper. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MQGP3LX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Yea I was actually planning on getting the SanDisk dual USB-C flash drive. I liked the idea of having something really durably on my keychain though. This looks to be the best for usbC flash drive.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01EZ0X23W/ref=dp_ob_neva_mobile
I just wouldn't wanna keep it on my keychain and your key one looked more durable... But then again the key snapped ones I saw had the circuit stuff exposed completely so maybe this would be better since it's the normal USB rectangle plus it slides in

It did not for me. It's not the ROMs though, it's the Google Q update that messed me up. Doesn't work any more.

A Nuukey bluetooth keyboard for the iPhone; I had seen one of these before online and thought if it could be some way retrofitted onto another phone. It was a
pretty lucky find in that I was able to inspect it hands on. I thought since I had blown all my money anyways, so why not try it. Here is what I have so far:

(The video pretty much reiterates the what I just said)
When I get a better camera Ill post some pics.
Wow, wicked cool.

Pretty cool! Why can't they start making stuff like that more ofen for androids? I guess they change so much. Hopefully they stick with the design for the atrix for the next few years and there will be more of a market for our phones.

It's the one thing that I'm missing from my old HTC 8125 and 8525.
Ugh playing roms on those things was infinitely more fun when I had buttons to press.
Edit: Also, if anyone stumbles upon a keyboard that connects via usb rather than over Bluetooth, please share.
this is fantastic. now what you should do is pick up an extra battery cover and outfit the sliding joint to it. i wonder how hard that would be. i have been trying to figure out this exact mod for months

Youtube vid shows it on, slight modification necessary however. Definitely think I might do this once I have some money.
I think a USB keyboard in this form factor would be fantastic, less battery consumer, and it shouldn't be so hard with the USB-host support, I'm right?
Why we don't suggest it to Nuu?

I kind of like this idea, plus then you could use it in places where bluetooth might be prohibited. Also makes your phone less open having bluetooth off.

Well it's been two days and there is some bad news after sliding it back and forth the springs gave out and there is too much pressure being put on the slide plate causing it to bend. I'm going to have to modify how its mounted before releasing instructions; I dont want anyone wasting their time or money.

Tablets and USB OTG - Flash drives with micro USB?

With the rise in popularity of tablets and smartphones, and the microUSB port as the standard for these devices, could we see some flash drives designed for tablets that make use of the microUSB connector?
I'd love to buy a 64GB flash drive that can plug straight into my Nexus 7 and my smartphone and my friends' devices too.
It'll probably be charged at a premium due to the relatively niche usage, but regular 64GB drives are pretty cheap these days, and they're only going to get cheaper.
Has anyone seen or heard of anything like this? A USB OTG adapter isn't so big or expensive but it'd be great to have a storage device that works natively.
Um....a lot of us do this already. Hell, I watched a movie off of a flash drive today. Hyst get stickmount on a rooted N7. I got the micro usb to female usb on ebay for 99 cents shipped.
Maybe I misunderstand the question?
Sent from my LG-C800 using xda app-developers app
I think he meant flash drives with micro usb in it already as in the mount is micro instead of having an adapter
I did a search and this is all I could find:
http://www.usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view.php?products_id=2704
Not exactly convenient the way it is. They would've been smarter putting the micro USB port on the side, but even then, very pricey.

Definitely a better price, but still inconvenient to have the connector on the end like that. I think that at least for now, it's more convenient to just have a separate cable, not to mention that I don't think I'd trust the reliability of these no-name flash drives in the long run.
Looking for something small to was also hoping to get an otg flash drive best I can find is one of these http://www.usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view.php?products_id=1387 plugged into one of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mini-USB...867?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a6edf4fbb. :crying:

Funny that enough of us think alike that threads like this get going...
Problem is, how do you then connect the otg thumb drove to your pc? There would also have to be a backward adapter. Also a switch to un-short the pins that define it as an OTG device.
That's why the cables are an easier way to go for now. ..

Where did you find it?

Why has google not released a decent keyboard for the N10?

I know most of you wouldnt be interested in one since it is a tablet but I'm jealous of the asus transformer infinity owners who have a nice keyboard/dock etc, theirs even has a trackpad to make it essentially a low powered laptop. I've seen various 3rd party bluetooth keyboards on ebay but none that look too impressive.
I'd definitely be interested in one. That was one of my cons when purchasing this tablet. Something integrated would be sweet!

The best solution I've found was a MoKo Keyboard case.

Best looking one I've seen yet, thank you sir! I like the idea of an Asus dock style keyboard, but the fact that this is in a case is nice.

Its not always the best- after owning it 6 months, it HAS saved my tablet from 3 drops (outlined in my Amazon review), but the loop that holds the closing strap is a tad loose and I'm worried it might tear. Otherwise I love it. Best of all, the keyboard's detachable without clips/knobs/anything that might snap.

I have this case as well, however I have it for only two days LOL, and it is already amazing to use, the keyboard is really nice and the best part of it being in a case is that you can take off the keyboard and use only the tablet . Also it has a really stylish finish, and it's comfortable to carry . Using this thing with a mouse and Complete Linux Installer gave me a very powerful Netbook hahaha
I didn't realize you could take the keyboard off, nice! yeah I'm excited; it's ordered. Hmmmmm linux on nexus 10......... interesting.

I too would love to see an official keyboard, that makes use of the Pogo pins too, and maybe had some extra cool stuff. Perhaps Google just doesn't want anymore money though or something...
It Arrived yesterday. You guys were right this thing is money. The keyboard is a bit small for long typing session, but perfect for general everyday stuff! Couple of questions: Do you guys just use the nexus charging plug or something smaller? Does anyone know if the magnets on the case mess with all of the compass/ gyros/ accelerometor/ etc?

DAMMIT! No word about expandable memory.
I was sick of the 16GB of my Nexus 10 when I got it, and I still can't get over the fact that they've deiliberatly crippled a device which you, pretty much, only use for media consumption. Yeah, sure, Murica has pretty kewl streaming services, but the majority of the rest of the world still does not. Even if I'd pay for netflix, I can only watch it from inside the US! Ergo, travelling, especially by plane, makes it near impossible to stay entertained!
I can use about 8GB for movies. Wait, a movie is easily over 12GB (1080p).
So now, everywhere I go, I have to use this corsair usb stick, just because somebody didn't think this through - again.
Yeah, I know, micro sd cards have their problems with Android, and how the system has to set up a server to transfer media files onto it while still being able to read the storage, but DAMMIT GOOGLE! DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Leaving it out is not a proper solution for a problem!
"Oh, these seats are really hard to implement in the car, so you are a) safe and sound in accidents and b) get in and out of them without any problems. Let's leave them out - who needs them anyways. Plenty of nice office chairs around! With a bit of rope and a nice knot.. and it's not like they don't have wheels on them!.. yeah.. who needs seats in a car!"
Seriously Google. Do something.
This sounds more "ranty" than I would like, but dammit! They ruin it every time.
I was really looking forward to this device, since the Nvidia Shield Tablet was such an extreme failure. Looks like I'll have to keep looking for an 8" - 8.9" tablet with a decent display, decent CPU and expandable memory that is not complete garbage. (à la ipad - or one of those ipad knockoffs.)
Cheers. Literally.
You looked at Samsung tablets? I'm how you feel about SD card maybe they were thinking that built in memory would get cheaper faster.

Cheers. Literally.

Fire TV Stick rooted via eMMC (Soldering required)

Take a look over at GTVHacker.com for their root on the fire tv stick maximus64 even has a nice video:
http://www.gtvhacker.com/index.php/Amazon_Fire_TV_Stick
Hopefully this will lead to a software root, but if you're handy with a soldering iron, time to have some fun!
Thanks but I don't see many people doing this. Hope that means amazon won't patch it..... Could they?
I mean there's always a possibility, but you're basically (in a sense) removing the chip, reading it, modifying it, and putting it back...so I don't think there's really a way for them of doing that.
They could create a firmware update that contains a script that looks for and removes the files on each and every boot.
If its been done with the fire tv stick.. Surprised its not been done with the fire tv.

the pinouts are there
I just ordered the eMMS interface he used in the video. Figure since I've got 4 of them that I'd like to root, figured it's a small investment. If it works and others are interested I may be interested in rooting some units for a few bucks.

Got a link to the interface device? This is the only similar one I've found.

Thanks. And it's fine to link to other sites.
For those wondering, the board used in the video can be purchased for $20 from the guy in the video. Info here: http://gtvhacker.com/index.php/GTVHacker_e-MMC_Adapter

Very interesting,
As it supports low-voltage, it should also work for the FireTV?

I haven't looked in a while, but gtvhacker made the same claim for FireTV and nobody could reproduce the results.

On the GTV wiki page for the FireTV, it looks more like a theory, not confirmed that it has been done?
Anyway, I sent an email to Maximus, asking if he could ship this board to Germany
There is another thread here were people have tried and failed and contacted them and they could not help to reproduce..
I've got everything to do this now but the points are so tiny and my soldering tip is too large. Unfortunately my iron (Hakko Presto 980) doesn't have much tip selection, and the fine pointed tip is hard to find and expensive... I've got another iron somewhere, possibly at my mom's in Dallas, but doesn't help me here in Austin.
I'm rooted!

Got a lot of help from maximus64, but it worked out perfectly.
Edit: and now, using the KindleFree app I have the Play Store fully functioning, and using Market Helper it thinks I'm on a Nexus 7 so I can install any app. Excellent.

Congrats! So did you use your normal soldering iron or get a better tip? That's my dilemma at this point, a little unnervingly small especially for the tip I have.

I spent $4 on a cheap iron at Harbor Freight that had a sharper tip. The only way I could get a sharper tip for my Hakko was to get a $16 tip shipped from Japan, way too expensive for me.
I can't tell, but do you have to remove then resolder the resistor for the Fire TV Stick?

No you don't. FIreTV stick are simpler but the parts are bit smaller compare to the FireTV box. FireTV stick and FireTV box are different platform
