Nougat Stable (Official) Battery Life improvements... - OnePlus 3T Guides, News, & Discussion

Like always battery life is subjective & can vary from user to user as there are so many variables.
However this is craaaazy , thought I'd deliberately use my phone as heavy as I could, emails, YouTube, checking forums etc ......
And I have nearly 6hrs SOT with 47% left in the tank......
Think Oneplus has improved on something here.....

Wow! That's impressive.
Did you update via the OTA or fresh install?

Well, I think it also depends on how long you've been running this version for. I've noticed it takes days for the device (and apps) to adjust to your usage pattern and eventually there will be 1 or more apps using more batt than the rest. This is when your batt life overall might reduced.
But still.. it's looks like a good start and perhaps you can revert back after a few days and see if this maintains

I'm not to bothered if this occurs (you'll be correct in saying this won't be an average).
However looking on a positive note looks like 6hrs average will be most certainly a given & achievable & I'll be happy with that....[emoji106]
This was using the full ROM flashed over 3.5.4....[emoji4]

yes in even increase of playtime from 3.5h tp 4.5h pokemongo.

Well to be honest I can't believe for more than 7 h sot with normal use. Now with 3.5.4 and franco kernel with most day on wifi, few hours on mobile data and auto brightness I can barely hit 6h sot. So 5h with 47% left is not possible under "normal" conditions

It's not a setup environment, and this is Normal use, well don't really use it as heavy as I have been, but what I am saying is conditions are the same....(This is with WiFi all day forgot to mention)...
But as I stated and I am fully aware like with my Edge where I achieved under similar conditions & same apps installed ect a 10hr SOT...
This didn't average out to be such, but my average was on my Edge 7hrs which is great and here with this build and similar circumstances, I suspect an Average of 6hrs + will be ..

Just to be clear, do you have any apps like Facebook etc running in background? Do you use any additional programs to kill apps or something similar?
Wysłane z mojego ONEPLUS A3003 przy użyciu Tapatalka

Second day on official nougat (3T 128gb version) with a lot of photography, Social media and music playing. 2 full 100-0% cycles later, 1st cycle 7:15 SOT, second cycle 7:54 SOT. Just crazy compared to the 1+X it replaces! Unfortunatelly forgot to screen, i'll post a screen at the end of the current cycle.

Yes I have Facebook & Messenger Running in the background, seriously nothing is being used like Ram Cleaners etc....
I am using Kernel Auditor to tweak the stock Kernel a little, mainly setting the Graphics to userspace , and read/write speeds...Slight editing on build.prop but nothing fancy and beyond a Google search...
Take this with a pinch of salt (as has been posted) this won't be an average, but it is a good indicator that 6hrs + will be....

it doesnt matter at all if u update/dirty flash it or clean install it.
no difference in that.

Phone on 9hrs, 1 1/2 hrs sot, not a heavy user, checking emails, forums, tinkering with OS.
Battery remaining 85% definitely better than I was getting with OOS 3.5.4

My battery is draining badly. I've been on the leaked 4.0 for a week now and flashed this stable version. Which seems to be the same and battery is still horrible. I only dirty flashed though. Going to test a clean flash

If you want your battery to last, you really shouldn't drain it completely. Put it on the charger when it's around 20% instead.

They buddy, when you say full ROM over 3.5.4, do you mean full 4.0 ROM or full 3.5.4 then the small OTA 4.0 update? Thanks

You think I should 'upgrade' to 7.0?
besides losing xposed what do I gain from nougat?

Me too. But it is not the battery, it is the percentage going down too fast. The calculation seems to be wrong. After 35% it goes down way slower

For me, from 100-50% 3-4 hrs of SOT and from 50-10, 2-3 hours SOT. On an average I'm able to get just 5.30 hours of SOT. I don't have facebook or messenger. I don't have any big games too. I use Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube and Chrome more. Any suggestions to improve battery life?
I don't clear my RAM

Very good battery life for me on nougat...

HTC One M9 Battery life and SOT discussion

I couldn't find a thread about battery and SOT, so here it is.
Battery life is one of the most important things in today's gadgets and even if it's often up to what kind of apps and usage pattern you have there is still good to find a baseline to benchmark your own battery life against.
Please show us your battery life, SOT and any findings you have about what to do, and not, to maximize it.
If possible , please use gsam battery monitor and post screenshot. Gsam is a great tool and will also show you parts of what's going on energywise. Root is normally needed for more granular reports.
Thanks!

I'll put up some screenshots tomorrow after I've had a few full cycles. But its not looking good IMO.

It's still a very early firmware and hopefully it's possible to find what's draining.
Looking forward to it, but sad news if it's the same for everyone.
Thank you!
First cycles with all initial syncs were getting me about 6:30 hours. After a few cycles, intensive usage (very little gaming, but lots of browsing, twitter, FB, sports timer, some camera etc) I am getting around 8:45. I noticed that changing brightness from default auto (too dark for me) to manual +2 (very bright) doesn't impact battery life much. I think the main drain comes from the 810 and theming.

Theming is known to be able to drain.
Is there a "stock version" that don't drain and is it possible to measure?
When it comes to the SOC, I imagine that's mostly up to Qualcomm and HTC to fix.
Actually more around 8:00 screen on with 45' screen off. Note that I disabled FB and Twitter feed sync, and configured location services only on one Google account and did not use theming on these cycles.

About 8 hours of SOT with more than 50% brightness sounds really good, even if you turn location and stuff off.
Can you upload som statistic about what is taking battery and SOT?
Thanks
8 hours is quite consistent with the reviews, e.g. Engadget:
In the standard Engadget rundown test (with a video set to loop endlessly while the screen's set to 50 percent brightness), the M9 stuck around for eight hours and 19 minutes -- a decent increase over the original One M7, but far short of the 11-plus hours we squeezed out of the M8 last year and the 10-plus hours the G Flex2 put up. That seems abnormally low, especially considering that the M9 did just fine when it came to average daily use: It regularly hung around for 13 to 14 hours of continuous work use (including a few spells as a mobile hotspot during press events) without batting an eye.

Also in my experience 8 hours with the screen off will drain 10%. This is without the phone doing much and WiFi only as I don't have a SIM in there yet.
Coming from a first gen Moto G I don't feel too concerned.

True, but most of those test is normally about looping a video, web-script, on 50% brightness.
I you just got the phone and using it in a mixed way 8 hours is pretty good. I never had 8 hours on the M8, even when reading books with flight-mode on (weekend in another country, don't want to get ruined
But... I also have close to 200 apps running god knows what in the background.

Absolutely no way is anyone getting 8hrs of SOT with 50% left. Not even then 720p blue studio energy with a 5000mah is.

No one said they had 50% battery remaining after 8 hours of SOT. They were talking about the screen brightness being set at 50%
I think you've misread that. It's 8hrs SOT with brightness at 50%. Not remaining battery at 50%.
Here is mine so far tonight after 2 full drain and recharge cycles.
It seems the system itself is a big impact on the battery. Need a lot more work on the firmware.

I think this is the only encouraging thing anyone can say right now.
We know that the M8 is capable of great battery life. The M9 has a bigger battery than the M8 so hopefully the firmware can improve.
As apposed to the S6 where the battery size leaves the battery life nowhere to go but down.
I've been testing a Verizon version with all the test software on it so it's hard to gauge battery life. My main complaint about the phone is its slow charge rate. Takes hours to charge

I used an Apple iPad charger which gives out 12w/2.1a. It still took nearly 5hrs to charge my dead phone to full power.
My iPhone 6 plus with the same charger takes about 2.5-3hrs to charge a dead phone.
Charging m9 with out of the box charger from 12% takes me about 2 hours and 15 minutes. I'm in France . Don't know whether this is the 'quick' charger or not.
Also, power history graph crashes if I try to launch it while charging

Battery life, experiences

Hi all,
After a few days of using the Z5c, I must say I'm disappointed in the battery. It's coming not even close to factory brag specs (that's no surprise though). What does surprise me a bit, is that it upholds for barely ONE day. Back-to-back comparison with my old Z3c, all things (apps/usage characteristics) being equal except for stock ROM in Z5c and aosp ROM in Z3c, shows that the Z3c performs at least half a day longer!
Any other experiences with this?
This is interesting, if a little concerning. I'd be keen to hear feedback from others.
I had a Z1c, then switched to a Samsung Galaxy Alpha which has horrendous battery life, even more so with Lollipop (I flashed back to KK), I'd be happy with something in the middle probably. I believe the Z3c was quite a jump over the Z1c so hard for me to judge from what you are saying.
I guess we can expect battery to be worse on the SD810 vs the old SD800/801, despite the token battery bump. Maybe a future Android M update will go some way to helping, though that is probably some months off unfortunately.
Can you please share a screen grab of the battery screen on your device, showing screen time, apps usage etc.
Thanks.
edit: I have a Z5c on pre-order already, I'll add my thoughts when it arrives.
I would say my battery also lasted for about I day. Last time I charged it was yesterday and now I am out of batteries. I hit 15% a couple of hours ago. I will report back in a few days after some more charging and using.
EDIT: I should say I had A LOT of application running in the background, more then I would normally have. I usually kill apps I do not use, not just leave them in the background to preserve battery.

Yes, me too. I've now run into different trouble (not connecting to PC Companion, ANT HAL service corrupted, and more...) so no good example as "ordinary daily use".
With my first charge I got almost 2 days - configuring phone, installing apps and my daily usage. To compare, with my daily usage on my Nexus 5 I got through day with few percent to spare.
When using normally there is no problem with power consumption but graphics heavy games or camera app can make the phone really hot and battery drop fast.
So far getting 68% after full day of use, some phone calls, Spotify via Bt, few calls, updates, 3 push email accounts, etc. It's very similar to my old z3c. I expect 2-2,5days of battery life

I've been using phone for 5 days now. It has to be charged every day. STAMINA mode is on.
Daily usage:
- few calls
- some sms/hangout messages
- reading news/fb
- endomondo + gps - 1 hour running
Result:
43% screen,
12% Android OS (maybe a GPS?),
10% gReader,
6% Endomondo,
6% Cell standby,
4% Phone idle.
Current status:
Now on battery: 19h;
35% battery left - approx 12 hours left (according to battery info)
I'm a little bit disappointed with battery life so far.
perhaps you should check which app drains battery most. from my experience fb messenger is battery eater. disable Wi-Fi scanning, check if any of games you downloaded is set to send you notifications. phone is really good and I don't think your particular phone is worse - you just need to configure it!

I don't think you should do it at all, just google for some android tweak hints, disable any bloatware you don't want, disable notificatitons for apps you don't use or don't wish to send you notifications.
if you have to, install clean master and set saving battery option so it will kill any background tasks when screen off

Sure. I've looked at FB/Messanger but it only ate about 2%. I know all the battery hint, thanks.
Stamina mode turns WiFi off on screen off.
Anyway, the battery tricks are for other topic. Maybe I'm just playing with the phone to much, since it is new
Screen on times?
I regularly got 7-8 hours of SOT with my Moto X Play which I returned after two weeks for refund in favour of the Z5 Compact (mainly due to the size difference). Obviously I'm not expecting quite that level of battery prowess, but I'd like to see at least double what my Nexus 5 currently offers (it wouldn't be that hard to achieve with an average of 2.5 hours SOT).
In any case, I get mine delivered today so I'll be able to chip in on the battery front soon.

So after locking phone the battery info shall show the WiFi off when the screen is off right? Or is it made off in other way that it is not seen by battery info? See on the bottom of the screen.
Anyway the indicators show that SCREEN = off but WIFI = on

Search the forums for the Z3 series and Z1 for many posts that explain how Stamina works. It doesn't stop Wi-Fi. It doesn't allow apps to connect to Internet.

P.s sorry for my bad English lol
Noticeably worst than .575 and this is the worst firmware by far, for battery although everything else except that is stable. Lollipop 5.0 is the best one for me, I could get more than 9 Hours SOT and 2 to 2.5 days battery life with it. 5.1.1 started to make my phone's battery worsened because of battery drain overnight (10 to 25%) and I could only get at a maximum of 1.5 days battery life. With Marshmallow .575, battety drains overnight is reduced to ~6% and I could reach 7h40m of SOT with 1 to 1.5 days of battery life but average SOT is around 5.5 to 6.5 hours although memory management is severely worse. With .291, multitasking issue is gone but I could only get a bit more than 6 hours of SOT at maximum and average SOT is at 4.5 to 5 hours, I hope this is not my battery that is degrading, just the software (although my D6653 is 1 year 3 months old), I could drain my phone's battery that It could run only half or full day even if I only use it for 10 minutes of gaming. I don't know, maybe I just use my phone while it's very hot because I'm very busy these days.

It's because of Charging Optimization Sony added to this new MM Update! You can turn it off and go back to previous battery life!
But Charging Optimization is good for your Battery's longevity!

You should upgrade to MM! New versions are upgraded; You know! You should try this MM...

It's because of Charging Optimization Sony added to this new MM Update! You can turn it off and go back to previous battery life!
But Charging Optimization is good for your Battery's longevity!

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you all this, but I did all those with Battery Optimisation turned off all the time.
Then...try reflashing the latest MM firmware or repairimg through PC Companion. Hope that will work! Or You can root your device for better battery life.

My battery life got worse after the last 6.0.1 update to 23.5.A.1.291. I already did a software repair from the Sony software on Windows 10, so everything was cleared.
I often see the GPS icon in the bar, while there are no active GPS programs running. It look like the same issue with the Xperia Z where the GPS was also running too much in one of the last firmware versions. It looks like the Google Play-Service is consuming a lot of energy and running always in the TOP 3 of applications.

Does anyone have the same problem ?
^
I also have that one problem, my Z3 has these apps that screw my battery (google play services and mostly google things)
Oh yeah, one more thing, I forced stop and cleared data from some apps in my phone two days ago. Since yesterday, my phone's battery has more than 6.5 hours of sot and battery performance just got much better than two days ago and before that day.

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Huawei P20 Pro before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I got my P20 pro yesterday, actually SOT is 5h46min.
And left 29% Battery
I love this p20 pro

Screen on time can be misleading.
For instance, watching a YouTube video over WiFi consumes less battery than browsing through the web using a browser on the p20 pro.
The same can also be said with Whatsapp and facebook
I have the phone for about 10 days now and in the beginning I wasn't too impressed with battery-life and screen on time averaging about 4-5 hrs.
Since a couple of days I've seen a nice increase in screen on time with an average of about 8 hrs or a bit more. I guess it took some time for the NPU to figure out what apps I used frequently and which ones can be dozed in the background. . I also installed Blokada which might positively impact battery life as well.
Altogether i'm pretty satisfied and look forward to future firmware updates to see the full potential of the amazing phone.

Wise words. Of course, the screen is ON when you use the phone, but it's also what you are DOING that makes battery drain faster or slower. I sincerely doubt anybody just turn screen on, and keep watching icons
I've recently updated from 107 to 128 and battery performance got MUCH better. Both idle drain and active usage. Pretty happy with it. I think 120 might me pretty much the same concerning battery. Had about 0.3%/h drain overnight with wifi on. With 107 it was about 0.8%/h.
Just got my p20 pro on 11 June. Upgraded from Samsung note 5. I have Samsung Gear s3 paired to the phone, and anti theft app running. I would say overall battery life is good, but can be better.
Most I've had is 10 hours on this phone, but my one plus 5.
14 hours 20 mins.
Stuck kernel xXx ROM.
I haven't properly debloated this phone yet but I'll get around to it.
Definitely not as well optimised as stock type ROMs, will measure SOT at some point properly, take screenshots etc.
You should make a leaderboard see who gets what.
The high one I got on the Oneplus 5 I was mostly reading up on the internet and making calls, texting, playing wordscapes. Just kept going lol.
Reckon this phone could beat that though.

I don't know why for some reason my screen on time is pretty weak. The longest I hit was about 5hrs45mins. I have several heavy apps like PUBG, Mobile legends, Samsung Gear and its related apps, Bluetooth on whole day coz of the watch and anti theft app that will probably be running in the background.
I have seen this constant weak SOT in the phones I've used. No idea why.

The same issue here. I'm reading about those 8H+ SOT and I'm wondering... HOW? The app that drains the most (according to the battery usage) is instagram, and even that I don't use that much. I still get 4-5H SOT, and I can't imagine getting more than that...

Judging from your screenshots, seems quite okay. Maybe you can try manually manage Instagram app? 5hrs+ SOT at 38% I think u can hit 6hrs or even more. Do you play games? If not, 7hrs should be achievable.

Where do you see 5hrs+ at 38? I see SOT 2H and 38% remaining.... meaning I'll probably reach 4 hours at most? And no, I don't play games.. I barely used phone tbh. Took few photos, searched through instagram, used some youtube and that's it.

About that.... reached 18% before I started charging again. Ended up with 3H SOT. this is such a shame, really. I'm thinking about doing hard reset of the phone tonight, if that helps. Screenshot attached

I have done that before. Left messenger and facebook on though. Also my P20 started acting weird after I disabled Facebook to run in the background...I left messenger ON and Facebook OFF, but the final result was quite opposite. I still got the notifications from Facebook and the messages from messenger were blocked. The OP mentions to delete messenger and facebook, but if they were the biggest cause for drain, that would be shown in "Battery Usage" wouldn't it be? However they were both waaay behind Instagram, System UI, etc.
I already did factory reset. Now I will slowly install apps one by one to see how the phone reacts to this. Might as well skip messenger and Facebook completely, and install Friendly as suggested by the OP of the post you posted. Hopefully what I'm dealing with is not a hardware issue (weak battery).
Will probably disable AOD as well, face recognition, location, etc.
Errr... Messenger ON and Facebook OFF is kind of silly bcoz u need fb to use messenger. I have both off.

That's not bad for your use...BT and data on all time drain quite a lot of battery, not to mention Facebook app and Messenger are also notorious battery draining apps. Also I see a gaming app on the screenshot you posted that drains lots of juice. Location and GPS also drains quite a lot of battery over time especially coupled with Facebook. Instagram isn't battery friendly either...
I get 9/10 hrs SOT over two days with Wifi Always on and a really basic usage...WhatsApp, web browsing and Instagram...so nothing very demanding.
I suggest you to restrict some apps in background (like Instagram)
Social media. Battery AND brain killer.
I was on Beta 4 and was also getting around 4 hours SOT, wasn't good at all. Flashed a custom AOSiP rom yesterday and i've doubled my SOT with same stuff enabled such as Bluetooth etc.

Agree.
Fb and messenger : facepalm get the fb lite and messenger lite or there are other apps for it available too, i am all day on Bluetooth and location at work.. and still easily gettin more than u
I was in the same situation like your sir . Before to change my sim card. I can't confirm 100 procent but after I swap to Vodafone UK my battery has improved I got always 6 hours and half . Now I can enable volte I don't know if this improve some battery life but for sure now I get like in general 6.30 hours with WiFi or without WiFi with Bluetooth always on .
Before to switch I use to root my OnePlus 6t and change the themes to black amoled black wallpaper custom kernel and more to get 5 hours .
This is in my case I don't know if this applies to you . Can be your phone can be anything
Same issue with me
When I use location , 4G and dual SIM standby with moderate usage I get only 4-5 hours this includes 1- 1.5 hours of Google maps , PUBG 1 hour and casual browsing + YouTube should I ask for a replacement my unit is brand new only a week old and in 24 hours I get only 4-5 hours SOT

Facebook and Instagram suck your battery like a vampire sucks blood.
9.0.12
10 h was conected to smart watch at work facebook videos autoplay in my case no problem with batery
I have WiFi, 4G and Bluetooth (always paired with Amazfit) turned on all the time. I've noticed that when I'm not doing much (for example 2h SoT) and phone stays untouched battery drains almost the same when using phone a lot (5h SoT). It doesn't matter if I use my phone - always drains almost the same. If I'm all the day on the phone I could get 6-7h and of course my battery drains faster, but lasts for minimum 24h. Not using my phone - sometimes more than 24h but less than 30h on battery (with 1h SoT).
I don't know what's going on... From "draining apps" I'm using only Messenger. Adaptive battery is off, battery optimization turned off only for "messaging" apps like Telegram, Signal, Slack and Messenger.
GPS is turned off, sometimes only I'm turning hotspot on for 15-20 minutes.
I'm on 9.0.12.
Anyone got some tips?

Do you bought it via OnePlus? If yes, try to contact the support and tell them your problem. If the phone is literally new, they tend to repair for free.
Stock kernel sucks dude. Use a custom.. I get 11 hrs sot.
I'm getting 3h of SOT lately (data/wifi on, no bluetooth). When I check the usage details it states Google play services using 75%.
Also got from a typical overnight drain from 2-3% to 5-6%.
Started behaving weird since the 9.0.12 if I recall correctly.
Stock, no root. Don't like it at all.

Flash RenderZenith kernel and use some alternate apps for Facebook and messenger at least. I can recommend friendly app. There is also friendly for Instagram but without messenger.
You might wanna try out servicely app to restrict app background usage and wakelocks.
