OEM skin/software - Honor 6X Real Life Review

Are you comfortable in your own skin? Is your phone comfortable in its skin? Rate this thread to express how you deem the skin on the Honor 6X. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it adds just the right amount of features, it's visually pleasing, and overall it's additive to the experience. If this is a Nexus phone (you didn't think we hand-wrote all of these prompts, did you?) then use this rating to indicate how the latest version of Android looks to you.

Personally i have to admit that i like so much EMUI 5.0. EMUI 4 didn't got the same level of impression on me, while the passage to version 5+Nougat did it instead. It's a very smart UI, clean and easy to approach. I came from LineageOS 14.1 to EMUI 4.1; at the beginning i was disappointed, then i tried to make habit to it. It was transmitting to me a sense of poorness in relation to LineageOS. With 5, I still miss some exclusive Lineage features (hope to get 'em back too) but it is definitely better than his previous version.

In EMUI is everything big with compare to LOS. Huawei anyway make good step forward with EMUI 5 :good: is faster, stable (EMUI 4 was stable too), looks better and have more options for setup battery optimization compare to EMUI 4 and have less lags

Right man, EMUI has an enormous size of icons, i understand that the display is big but ouch stock EMUI icons are punches in eyes, seems like they're made for cyclops. With a resize of icons thanks to third party launchers, everything comes back to normal luckily

emui5 is classic, one of the reasons that i still stick to my honor phones

Do you guys take money or gift from Huawei? In all this real life threads there are the same guys talking about how great is this phone. That is not so great.

I hope EMUI 6 offers changes in UI.

It should be more similar to AOSP by what I've read

I apologise guys, i went to search the same article that I've read yesterday about the similitude with AOSP to link it for you and I've noticed that they have modified the article since that they wrote the phrase as an affirmation, instead that a question. They now wrote that "they'll see if this time EMUI will be more Android Stock or if they'll go in the opposite direction". The thing that is sure is that EMUI 6 should be more user-friendly thanks to suggestions based on previous user experience. Hope to be on custom soon anyway...

That's ok bro. I really hope they do it that way.

it was not so exceptional till EMUI 4 but with EMUI 5.0 it has certainly evolved much and became more user friendly.
Notification panel has improved.
shortcut tiles are a big welcome as earlier we had only 8 tile limitation which changed upto 20+ in EMUI 5.
settings are not that good compared to EMUI 3.X (with EMUI 4 onwards, many options are hidden inside another causing multiple hops)
icon changes are welcome but not to impressive.
overall a big step from EMUI 4 but still needs improvement.

Emui 4.1was OK..wasn't an fan.but emui 5 is good expirience

Yes. Lot of improvement over EMUI 4 now and cleaner UI

I just hate EMUI
I am coming from MIUI and MIUI is much much better than emui
Other oem skin like flyme os are also better than emui.
Witch emui i feel like i am behind the competition, it is not well optimized it lags a lot don't have very useful features and basic features like call recording or long screenshot floating dock is also of third class app lock is also feels like some third party app i really wish if i can have MIUI or Flyme os 6 on honor 6x but this devices lacks community support so i will have to live with Emui

Coming from Touchwiz, I'm really starting to like EMUI.

hoping to see emui6 on this.

Me too. Receiving EMUI 6 wikl be great.

EMUI is a bad system. It slows the phone down and is really ugly overall. Lots of useless features and bloatware.

But based in that screensnot, RIL is broken. Maybe it will take until January or so to have a full stable CM13. After that, CM14.1 should be easy breezy.

I don't think we will have fully stable cm soon. But still, good news!
Sun will shine on Honor 8 sooner or later. The first step is taken to embark you all on a wonderful journey ahead. Patience is key so remain calm and hope for the best.
No way! Thanks xda!

Thank goodness. I love this phone, but EMUI just has some very poor design decisions and sometimes feels like a bad third-party skin even after replacing the launcher. Notifications, especially on the lock screen, are just ugly and react entirely opposite of the way they do in iOS or stock Android, and the only lock-screen theme that supports notifications has the clock in the lower corner of the screen (which is nonsense).
There are also a lot of weird quirks that I've experienced, an example being wallpapers bug out most of the time when I try to set them. Sometimes they don't align the way I set them to and when I try to fix the alignment, it will set the wallpaper slightly off the screen so part of the wallpaper is black space. Perhaps this is just an incompatibility with Nova Launcher, though.

Yea i dont like EMUI too and you're right but i love the phone. I have to say some parts of EMUI are well designed and i really like but some are absolute crap.
In my opinion stock Android or any cm based custom rom perfectly fit on it i cant wait to See how it will act with it.
Super happy to see CM ported to the Honor 8!
CM 13 is already posted in Android Development section, and RIL is working.

[POLL] Do you like the new EMUI 5?

I flashed the B336 FW and I have to say, I like the speed and stability a lot. However, after some tinkering with EMUI 5, I have to say that in my opinion it's HIDEOUS and I can't wait till someone ports CM14.1 (I'll try to contribute passively of course).
Speaking solely about the EMUI Interface, not the ROM, version 5 is a disaster in terms of aesthetics (coming from a EMUI 4.1 lover). Let me elaborate:
What I like
Lock screen - swiping notifications deletes them instead opening them
Notifications shortcuts - you can fit as many as you want
App drawer - I'm not using it, but some might find it amazing
What I dislike
Everything is bright white - it either lacks contrast or contrasts too much with the icons. Why can't we change the color?
Icons - ugly, not flat nor material, do not fit with the design in general, their colors are very, very bright and each is different
The notifications - rounded edges and white notifications baloon on a black background
Music widget - the small circles around play and next/prev buttons
Holding the power button - only reset and power buttons, no data or flight mode buttons there as it was with EMUI 4.1
I know that a lot can be fixed with theming, but who with a clear sense releases this ugly UI like this? I know it's Chinese and they like different styles, but it doesn't follow any single design language, it's just a bunch of random design elements!
Go ahead and share your thoughts!
I havent used it yet because i have C185 firmware and there is no nougat for it yet but i have seen alot of videos and screenshots of EMUI 5 and here is my opinion
Notification panel Is way better than the one in 4.1.
EMUI 5 Privatespace is very cool feature to have.
Dialer, Messaging & contacts these apps look much better than they did in EMUI 4.1 in my opinion.
Default theme is a bit ugly but i thought we could apply blacklabel theme cant we?
EMUI 5.0 FOR P9 LITE PROS AND CONS
PROS:
1.Great battery life
2.Performance is very good
3.Very close to STOCK android
CONS:
NONE (at the moment)
Is better than EMUI 4.0 but i still using nova launcher.
PROS:
-Better performace
-Better batery manager
-Better notifications
-better lockscreen
Generally nougat features
CONS:
-ugly icons
-Still consuming too much RAM
I've solved my problems with nova but i hope cyanogenmod be stable soon.
Sorry for my bad english.
I will not be updating to the new emui right now... I'll be waitingvfor the new cm14...
Still prefer CM any day of the week.
+There is no file manger in
For me

To be fair... You all flashed a leak. You don't know what they will change until official release.
Most likely they will still modify some stuff. Otherwise they would have released it already.

will there be a AOSP ROM for mate9

i mean .. emui is great.. but i think lots of people love aosp ROM more.
I agree entirely. But there seem to be a very limited number of developers working with Mate 9/Mate 9 pro.
I would not hold my breath, waiting for AOSP. Though I saw a beta unofficial release of LineageOS for Honor 8 Pro, which should be very close to resembling the Mate 9 Pro.
But lets hope for some developer love for these excellent devices.
If I were you I wouldn't hold my bread. Unfortunately Mate 9 lack of devs. I really don't understand why. This device is amazing.

Every Cyanogenmod (now known as LineageOS) has been buggy. I had one ASOP for my LG G3 and it was perfect, never a bug. Now I don't bother with LineageOS and only look for ASOP.
In the case of the Mate 9 I am very happy with EMUI 5.0. I have been able to remove 90% of the bloatware. I have root. I have a 3rd party launcher. About the only thing I would like is to have custom icons and size for the navigation bar and some customization of the Status bar.
It would be great to run dirty unicorns on these phone .

Emui is getting better and better.. Just love emui 8.1
EMUI it's just horrible, bloated with tons of Huawei apps which one could understand, but why can't I disable/uninstall even Google apps makes no sense
also missing customization options as custom color LED notifications per app (if it's not built in within app you can't change color) or no edge gestures, you have FP gestures, floating button and virtual navbar, but there is no Last app switch with FP gestures and also Back button FP gsture has no haptic feedback, swiping left/right on FP it's often confused with Back button if you move finger a bit
also especially now with Notch taking space EMUI waste tons of space with VoLTE icons, two signal icons and all icons in status bar extremely small hard to read, why not make them bigger and whatever make status bar 0.5mm higher
Felt happy after observing that EMUI 8.1 is moving closer to AOSP and away from IOS cloning.
EMUI is the user interface that comes on installed Honor and Huawei phones. EMUI features Huawei Home, phone manager, themes, media apps, and is heavily baked in to the entire system UI. While EMUI has a lot of great features to offer (Screen recording, gesture controls, camera app ect.) many people have serious complaints about it.
For a long time, EMUI has been considered one of the more negative aspects of getting an Honor or Huawei device. Over the years EMUI has evolved to be much better and now hosts a great selection of valuable features.

For people who like MIUI this is the best yet, MIUI 10 has plenty of good stuff, I hate Xiaomi for including ads everywhere but there are various ways to completely disable them . The first thing I did after getting the phone was to disable recommendations on all its native apps and in settings and after that enable USB debugging and removed all useless apps like MI Picks and Mi Video. Now its just a smooth continous and whole lot of pure MIUI.
I like the software optimasations and battery life optimisations on this phone.

To be honest I do not like it. I am not a skinned Android person. I like the stock android look, I am not a fan of my phone looking almost like it's running IOS, which it doesn't anymore but older versions of MIUI and other skinned Android version from Chinese phone makers really do look like. There is something broken with the power management, especially on MIUI 10.3.7 global. My battery life isn't awful, it's good but can be better. Android will sometimes use 75% of the battery, and just leave apps open even after you have closed out of them in recents, and this wouldn't be a problem if it was just one app, but it's all of them! I do not need or want Instagram using 9% of my battery when I have only had it open for maybe 15 minutes (I am logged into 4 Instagram accounts so that might be the cause of it using so much of my battery), Youtube sometimes uses like 20% when I check the power usage. This kind of forces me to ha seems like an issue to me. Also, I can't find other reports of this so it might just be my phone, but I have reinstalled MIUI like 5 times already so I am pretty sure this is an issue many have.

I have noticed that some of the high battery usage is being caused by the location is turned on, but this doesn't justify the crazy battery usage of apps.
Miui is nice, but needs a lot improvements in working and smoothness
