But based in that screensnot, RIL is broken. Maybe it will take until January or so to have a full stable CM13. After that, CM14.1 should be easy breezy.

I don't think we will have fully stable cm soon. But still, good news!

Sun will shine on Honor 8 sooner or later. The first step is taken to embark you all on a wonderful journey ahead. Patience is key so remain calm and hope for the best.

No way! Thanks xda!

Thank goodness. I love this phone, but EMUI just has some very poor design decisions and sometimes feels like a bad third-party skin even after replacing the launcher. Notifications, especially on the lock screen, are just ugly and react entirely opposite of the way they do in iOS or stock Android, and the only lock-screen theme that supports notifications has the clock in the lower corner of the screen (which is nonsense).
There are also a lot of weird quirks that I've experienced, an example being wallpapers bug out most of the time when I try to set them. Sometimes they don't align the way I set them to and when I try to fix the alignment, it will set the wallpaper slightly off the screen so part of the wallpaper is black space. Perhaps this is just an incompatibility with Nova Launcher, though.

Yea i dont like EMUI too and you're right but i love the phone. I have to say some parts of EMUI are well designed and i really like but some are absolute crap.
In my opinion stock Android or any cm based custom rom perfectly fit on it i cant wait to See how it will act with it.

Super happy to see CM ported to the Honor 8!

CM 13 is already posted in Android Development section, and RIL is working.

Which roms have multiwindow?

Hello everyone,
I ordered a Nexus 6P, it should be here in a couple of days.
I'm coming from a Note 5 and one feature I really want to keep is Multi-window. What roms currently have a fully functional multiwindow feature? I know omnirom used to have it, not sure if they still do. Omni Rom's site doesn't even list it anymore.
Marshmallow's crappy multiwindow isn't a preferred option, as it's really half baked.
Android N has it, but I hear the developer previews get really laggy after a while.
Thanks
That's the only multi window there is for now. I suggest you to try N preview, I heard the new one runs relatively stable.

Multi-window on N Preview is extremely smooth, compared to the experimental MW in Marshmallow. Plus it now lets you play YouTube videos simultaneously while carrying out tasks in the second window.
I have been using N preview since the second release, I agree that it may freeze some times, but only when a lot of memory hogging apps are running. Otherwise, pair it with a decent custom kernel (I use ElementalX), and you will be fine. And anyways, if it doesn't suit your device, you can always roll-back to MM.
I wonder if someone will port Android N's Multi Window to Android M.
I really dont like N so far.. The cluttered cards in NF tray, the massive recents tabs, and the ridiculously tiny google keyboard when setting custom DPI. Its a huge mess, and I doubt those things will be fixed.

You do realize its a developer's preview/BETA right ? So its kinda gonna be a mess since they're still working the kinks out AND asking for feedback. So those complaints you have? (Which are legitimate i agree) Click the little N button in the the pull-down menu and let google know. That's how an open beta works.Hopefully they fix it and if not the bright minds here on XDA probably can. I myself gave feedback on how it'd be nice to have an expanded power menu for power users.

What rom would you like to see on the Axon 7?

I was wondering what kinds of roms the community would like to see on this device. I am getting this phone soon and would like an AOSP-based rom on the axon 7.
Something close to pure Nexus !

I used an aosp rom on my desire eye (rip) and everything was great except for android wear. Everything else was good. There was even an option in the aroma installer to overclock the cpu.
Dirty unicorns. That what I'll build if our when I buy this device. Fling gesture is where it's at. @bigrushdog is the genius for that.

What about CM14?
CyanogenMod... only CyanogenMod!
By the way, here is the reason why
"Using the Axon 7 reminds me of a Samsung phone from three or four years ago. I don't mean the UI—MiFavor 4.0 doesn't look bad. It's just overloaded with buggy features that probably don't need to exist. It feels cluttered. At the same time, features that I do want like lock screen notifications and Do Not Disturb mode are made less accessible."

Yeah, the lockscreen bell thing looks quite annoying and pointless. I understand why they did it (to look at the background) but they should at least have the option to reverse it (defaults to show and then you can hit the bell to hide it).
Pure nexus
Maybe some Omni or crDroid (my favorite based on CM) !

I'm using SlimSaber on my OnePlus One at the moment, and I really like it. But really, I'm fine with any AOSP ROM. I just want stock Android.
Cyanogen Mod or stock Android. Then its all over. I can be happy with this purchase.
I voted AOSP. I'd like to see something stock-like, with the addition of a system wide equalizer (Dolby atmos, V4A, etc.), dark mode, and a few of the USEFUL features on the Axon. Camera tweaks would be nice if the ROM bakers can find any tunable parameters/flaws in the OEM's software.
CM all day. AOSP is just too devoid of some things that are nice and lacks much baked-in customization. CM, for me, strikes that balance well. Sure, Xposed can get you there too, but that's a lot more complicated to setup for just some more basic options.
Really, all that's important at the end of the day is have a solid HW enablement overlay available. Then any ROM can be ported much more easily.
CyanogenMOD

will there be a AOSP ROM for mate9

i mean .. emui is great.. but i think lots of people love aosp ROM more.
I agree entirely. But there seem to be a very limited number of developers working with Mate 9/Mate 9 pro.
I would not hold my breath, waiting for AOSP. Though I saw a beta unofficial release of LineageOS for Honor 8 Pro, which should be very close to resembling the Mate 9 Pro.
But lets hope for some developer love for these excellent devices.
If I were you I wouldn't hold my bread. Unfortunately Mate 9 lack of devs. I really don't understand why. This device is amazing.

Every Cyanogenmod (now known as LineageOS) has been buggy. I had one ASOP for my LG G3 and it was perfect, never a bug. Now I don't bother with LineageOS and only look for ASOP.
In the case of the Mate 9 I am very happy with EMUI 5.0. I have been able to remove 90% of the bloatware. I have root. I have a 3rd party launcher. About the only thing I would like is to have custom icons and size for the navigation bar and some customization of the Status bar.
It would be great to run dirty unicorns on these phone .

miui 9 for s8 and s8+

Will there be q dev willing to port miui 9 for our devices ?
Why would you want to do that? IMO, MIUI is a worse Android Experience than what Samsung offers you. And you loose all of the Samsung provided features for a worse skin.

Fair enough. I've only seen it so I don't have any actual hands on experience with it.
I would really recommend buying MI devices if you prefer MIUI skins. Why buy expensive hardware when same thing is available for cheap.
Who wants the skins?? The Os managment tools
The ram memory management is the best than in any other roms
I wish it will be ported to s8, there is no real custom rom available to our device yet.
I really want it! And for several good reasons too. Been using MIUI 8 and 9 for a year now. and some of th features are very nice in MIUI.
The best ever feature is the ability to LOCK APPS IN MEMORY. so they will never quit unless its an emergency. On all other androids ive used with for example Pokemon go. it never stays in memory. but on MIUI on Mix 2 i could lock the apps I wanted and they were never ever killed=) awesome! also the app launcher is genious. moving around and deleting several apps at once. and! the most important one. its freakking snappy!!!!!!!!!!!!! MIUI 9 was the best ever android experience I have ever had. no lag, slowdowns opening apps chrome etc. it just worked. and was there, when I wanted it. FAST!!!!!!!

I think xda developer just can't develope miui 9 or color 0s 5 rom for s8.. they are just porting s9 also yeah without s9 camera.... common show something....
I agree that MIUI on S8 might be a strange and surprising idea but if You had the chance to work on a Xiaomi phone with MIUI (that cost 150USD tax not included) You would maybe considering the same thing. The idea is not bad but I think MIUI wasn't designed to be displayed in better resolution and on the best screen on the market (Super AMOLED). Maybe the TOP Xiaomi phones would overcome the resolution problem but it may be a need for a new colors to look great on Super AMOLED.
Worst Android Experience??
I don't know what were you smoking, but MIUI offers more features than Touchwiz
I've used MIUI phones for years, and it still has more features than this crappy Touchwiz

I miss MIUI too. And the software support from Xiaomi. Xiaomi is by far the OEM with the best software support.
It would be great to have miui on the 8+
i'd love to see miui 9 or 10 on our devices.. i made a request thread on miui forums too http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=3194310&highlight=galaxy+s8

Samsung Experience:
Lock apps: Click on recent apps button > top right 3 dots > lock apps (also available in good lock 2018)
Move/Delete several apps at once: On samsung home launcher > hold the app > select items > click on the apps you want to uninstall/move/disable/create folder > select your choice at the top of the screen
You can run Miui PORTROM to attempt porting MIUI to the Galaxy S8. I tried that with the Galaxy S2 (Skyrocket) but nobody offered to help with the fixing of port rom rejects (when portrom fails to insert MIUI kernel code).
Plus there's the thread about Roll your own skinny MIUI. The post goes into massive details about removing much of the Chinese apps and so on. I'd never keep using MIUI unless I was certain nothing in MIUI is phoning home to China.

I don't remember TouchWizz much but MIUI certainly (and thats good for me) has not as many options to configure as Samsung Experiance on Oreo in Galaxy S8 for example.
I hope for a miui v10 on s8+ . That will make the best device ever. Maybe there is an exynos issue here.

Brightness issues on custom ROMs

Hey guys, the one thing I liked about the stock ROM was that I could make the screen really dark and really bright. It's much more limited on the AOSP ROMs I've tried. Is there any ROM that gives me more control over brightness?
its the way they designed android pie which is stupid af. also tested it on my friends android one device its the same as the custom roms on lavender.

But brightness levels have nothing to do with skinning, no? If Xiaomi could change it, so could any other dev maybe?
My other two gripes with MIUI are the stupid notification behaviour and lack of colored music notifications + album art as background (yes that's important!) ?.
is there a fix?

I feel the album art as background too, but i prefer to stay on MIUI for better stability overall, plus i got really used to the MIUI skin so i don't feel like changing.

But how about notification behavior? I totally hated that because I want all my unread notifs to always stay in the notif bar + lockscreen.
Also, what is the best place to suggest / discuss implementing changes to MIUI? The official forums seem either dead or I get generic replies and little views.

I believe you'd have to enter the closed beta program to do that, the inscription is not always open though, you'd have to check mi community for more info.
Thanks.
While we're talking - does anyone else have the issue where 4G doesn't reconnect after calls? Sometimes it does after a longer while, but it's much quicker to enable/disable airplane more to get it to reconnect. I actually remember having a similar issue while on the stock ROM too.
