[Q] [Sprint users] Anyone on the LS997ZV5 update yet? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

** Update**
Seems after the LS997ZV4 update was pulled off, they changed it to LS997ZV5 instead and just got it 12/26/16
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I've been waiting for the OTA update on my phone, I have been manually checking for updates too but nothing happens!
The release date says 12/5/16 and I usually can get updates by manually checking with other android devices, not this time though..

Thanks for your response!
rooting isn't important for me as it was before lollipop, there's not much bloatware on the V20 and ads are being taken care of with adguard.

It's just bug fixes and security patches anyways

Yes I know! Security and bug fixes are important..

ls9997zv4 update no longer shown on sprint website
I saw that update listed on Sprint's site last week and was also frustrated not to get it. It must have had an error because it has been pulled. We are lucky not to received flawed firmware.

They probably pulled it to fix the exploit they have found for rooting the phone.

wooo i caused something!

Is there a way to stop the update from appearing or stop the phone from checking? I would like to accept updates only once people here assure us that it won't break the root method, given I may root at some point.

I just got updated to LS997ZV5 Dec 1 Security patches, fixed an issue with loud speaker and stuff I don't remember.

I got it on 12/24. I had to click "check for update" quite a few times for it to show up.

Same here. I hoped it would have fixed the speaker distortion problem. But it did nothing for me.

to be Honest, never had the issue..
I was hoping for maybe camera software fine tuning
I also did a full restore, I like to start fresh with updates

So is it confirmed that the root method on the ZV5 no longer works? I just got my V20 off swappa and it already had the ZV5 installed. :crying:

I read everything I could find about rooting this thing and read all the comments that the bootloader exploit was fix with the December patch.but nothing convinced me not to...Im a old Samsung guy, Note 2, 3 & 4 so rooting without having Odin to back me up was a tad daunting as well as having to remember how to use ADB....I took a chance and it worked......I got the sd corrupt error ( no biggie, I had backups) and battery drain is kinda high ( no sprint custom kernels yet) ....of course it not being a stock sprint rom things like wifi calling, sprint zone and voicemail are missing ( but Team Dev now hows a stock rooted sprint rom out, Ill try that in the am) everything is running just fine...installed all my apps, made a titanium backup and a twrp backup.....

Didnt realize it would be a staged rollout....
I'm running CM-11, but I haven't seen it the update on Sammobile. I wouldn't think these sold in such numbers to warrant a staged rollout either, though.

Me either, all these sites say it released but no one that i talk to that has one has the update.... so are they just going by the samsung site that you have the link to? I was pretty amped earlier when i read about this then i cant get the update. Its just disappointing lol
I'm just waiting for root for it then I will update. I don't want to update and not be able to remove the crap I don't use. If I knew how to make a rooted version, I would do it but I don't know anything about development. Oh well, I guess the wait won't kill me.
Sammy Jumped The Gun
It is starting to seem as if Samsung jumped the gun on this one. I think they released it alright, but released it to TMO for testing, etc. I know quite a few people that have this exact same model on TMO and they all live in different areas of the country. Not one has received it. Samfirmware has no link for it, and they don't even mention it. And for the most part if there is a new version out, they know and quick. And of course 4.4.4 is not available in KIES.
This is why I believe Sammy sent 4.4.4 to TMO and not to us, or at least not yet. We all know how the carriers are. At this point I'd rather not have 4.4.4 and wait for 5.0, but it will be a very long wait, unless I go CM12 when it is stable...

You're using CM-11 for the P607T model of the tablet? I've been looking for months for ROMs but haven't found any that work specifically for the P607T, which is the Tmo variant of the tablet.
Those who have 4.4.4, can you still root with Towelroot?
I am contemplating buying the P607t, which probably will have 4.4.4 by now and would not buy it if there is no root for 4.4.4 that won't trip KNOX. I returned the Wifi version for this exact reason.

I think you are absolutely correct
I just got the 4.4.4 update
Received 4.4.4 update
Update rolled out to my device as well.
I went ahead with the update, since all I really used root for was Titanium Backup and ES File Explorer.
Failed first time (likely because of root)
Removed root (under Cleanup section of super su FULL Cleanup)
Second attempt succeeded.
Towelroot failed to reroot.
If you are dependent on root, don't update until there is a new method found. Looks like towelroot is plugged on this one.

I got the notification for the update this morning, holding off until someone can confirm root capability. As with any new update, we will need to wait until people can get their hands on it and mess around to see if rooting is possible.
What are your initial thoughts on 4.4.4?

Official Verizon update???

Hey there, everybody. I'm currently running a manually odexed version of the stock N900VVRUEOF1 firmware, with bootloader unlock, TWRP 2.8.7.0, and am both rooted and running Xposed framework...
Out of nowhere, I see a long-forgotten icon, in my notification tray. It's saying there's a software update available! I wanted to make sure this wasn't some fluke (or to make sure I wasn't dreaming), so I checked out Verizon's update list.
https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/software-updates/
Lo, and behold! There's an actual, honest-to-goddess update! (Listed as: LRX21V.N900VVRSEPL1)
However, there is little to no information on what it is or does, apart from the ever-vague "latest security updates"...
Fearing a potential planned obsolescence (like the Note 7) or it wrecking my custom root/recovery/bootloader status, I haven't installed it.
I could try to unpack it all and go digging through it, but that takes way more time or energy than I can currently devote to this sort of thing...
Does anybody know what is involved with this update or have any other information as-to what it includes?

Would love to know as well. However I am not rooted nor do I want to.
I was honestly shocked when I saw the notification.
I'm tempted to go through with the update but since I like how I have my phone setup at the moment, im really hesitant to install it.
Would love to hear from anyone that has!

Thanks for the update, GoNavyMike.
That's about all I could find as well. :-/
In an effort to get a better idea of what has changed, would you have happened to have installed this? If so, would you say that there's any noticeable difference in performance or features, apart from the obvious potential app updates?
I'm all for the performance fixes and whatnot, but I really don't wanna lose root. Does this patch over current root methods, bump the Lollipop build up to 5.1 (sdk21), or anything like that? These are the kinds of things that a number of folks (myself included) are curious about. If you have updated, any insight you might provide would be very valuable!
Thanks for your time!

Was shocked to see myself.
I'm having trouble to disable the notification.
Tried using disable services from the playstore and unticking system update from Google framework also tried the Disable system updates app for rooted devices. Also the tick mark to hide notifications is grayed out on System Update in applications.
Im running Stock VRUEOF1 with TWRP and rooted.
Any suggestions?
My GF and I both have the Note 3. Mine is rooted and her's is stock, so I told her to go ahead and install it. Yeah, it's just a security update. I decided to update mine and it fails with the 402 error. Likely because I'm rooted. I need to look into deleting the update and blocking OTA.
BEWARE
Hey so I've got the 900v and it was rooted stock deodexed with a few rom toolbox tweaks. After the updated I was soft bricked - had to revert back to factory with Odin - no fun.

I used titanium backup pro and I froze the software update and it removed the annoying update pop up and stoped the updating from happening.

Thanks for the heads-up. This is the sort of thing I was worried about. Firstly, whether being rooted would mess with the update (perhaps it's just a partial update...?) and secondly, that I'd be able to keep root.
Assuming that your GF is okay with you borrowing her phone (which IS a rather large assumption, for nearly anybody), would you mind trying to see if current rooting methods still work for the new update?

I'm sorry to hear about having to do the full backup and restore... According to what yourself and xm41907 have posted, it apparently checks for full stock. Not sure how you managed to get as far as you did, but at least we know that this update doesn't play nice with rooted phones.
Performance/security improvements are great and all, but there are plenty of Xposed mods and manual tweaks to take care of that-- as long as there's still root.
If there's anybody who doesn't care whether they have root or not, I'd love to hear if current rooting methods still work after the new update, or if this update patches over or current for exploits.
Disclaimer: If you update, you do so at your own risk. However, we'd love to hear more about the details and any root-related insight.
Thanks, everybody!

I can ask if she is ok attempting root. I've been out of it since the Verizon Note 3 first got root capability. This brought me back to it seeing the bootloader can be unlocked and roms put on. I'm jazzed to try AryaMod !
I'm worried about what specifically it means by "Security Updates". I'm still on the OLD unlimited data plan. Because of this, I have to use FoxFi to tether as Verizon doesn't allow it. I'm worried this update may block it.
Can anyone confirm FoxFi still bypasses Verizon's tethering check post update? My Note 3 is totally stock, not rooted, and updated to the last patch(before this one).
Thanks!

I went ahead and did the update. Foxfi is still working post update
Thanks everyone for your continued feedback about this update. I am still clinging on to my Note 3. This is most certainly my last subsidized phone on VZW with my UDP.
In any event, I was just as shocked as you guys to see the system update notification. I went straight to Tibackup and froze the "System updates" app, which has tamed the notifications.
I did the update 2 days ago on my non-rooted note 3.
Everything is pretty much the same I dont notice any difference really.
Only thing is it seems my battery life has become worse.

Update for everybody with the Note 3 I don't know if it's coincidence or not after updating but when I'm in the YouTube app and have my charger connected to my phone it will say dock is connected really quick and then disappear it will probably do this two or three times a day just wanted to throw this out there and let people know that there might be a bug in the update I will check my USB port and see if it's clean and not damaged

hoping it doesn't break root. it's the update that ends in F. crazy that we're just now getting it while apparently Tmobile is on J already. crazy.

Don't think TWRP can install the file "dlpkgfile".
Any ideas?
I'm also waiting to see if it will remove root or not. Hopefully someone can test it.
I reinstalled the LG default recovery in "img" form, and attempted to run the update. Rebooting, it went into LG update mode, 1/2 (I assume 1 of 2), and stopped with an error that I wasn't quick enough to write down.
The device rebooted, and came up with warning "This device is suspected in rooting". No LG updates will install" or similar.
I used FlashFire and restored my TWRP recovery partition, and am now going to wait until someone more versed in update manipulation changes the update file "dlpkgfile" into something TWRP can work with.
I tried.
WTF! the update disabled HD calling for me on Verizon and now I don't even have simultaneous talk and data! WTF!

Dont do it
NEVER EVER take OTA's if your rooted, you will most likely unroot your phone. A custom ROM if it has a good developer behind it will stay updated by said Dev, your asking for trouble by loading OTA's while your rooted.
You've been warned
lmao cmon man.. look at my post count, look at my years on xda.. you think I'm some kinda android noob? hahah. anyway, point is, taking the F update didn't mess with getting root on us996 so I took it to see if it did any good.. but i guess lg's speaker "fix" was to lower the volume in general.

I do have a possible way but it is WAY to complicated for use. It can EASILY result in a hardbrick. and mostly untested. if that method ever gets released i will have done countless hours of testing on my own device before i even attempt to tell someone how to do it. That being said. as of right now. i am rooted on a custom rom. there is no incentive for me to try to work on it. if i do eventually get bricked for somereason and get a replacement with zv6 on it then yes i will work on getting root for that.
Ahh i see no worries.. Sucks we have no way of even getting back also.. Ugh first phone i havnt been able to root... It does suck..

Getting back as in downgrading? Correct there is no kdz to downgrade with. However i have confirmed that ARB is still set to 00 on zv6 meaning that if we manage to create a KDZ then zv6 CAN be downgraded.
@me2151, I got a question for you.... I went to jail on march 21st, my phone got stolen and was taken to the ECOATM. I just ended up getting it back on Friday. what im trying to figure out is if im still good to root. I have been reading about this zv6 update and im hoping and praying that my phone has not updated. I will have acess to it tomorrow. should I go in as soon as I turn it on and turn off OTA updates and make sure it doesn't update? or do you think that ECO atm went ahead and updated it? I know the service was disconnected on march 25th. also thank you for your time and help

if you are concerned with a auto update you can remove the simcard when you turn it on to check what version you are on. I dont know the business practices of ECOATM so i cannot say they did or didnt update it. I would just pray its not zv6
ugh I hope to god not, but where I don't currently have active service on it that should help also?

Ok dually noted haha
I'm due to buy a new phone any day now, does anyone know if phones are shipping from the factory with ZV6, or do they ship with the original FW and take the update OTA.
Really getting more and more bummed being on Sprint. It seems like each generation root on Sprint gets harder and harder. I can't just buy whatever the current flagship is like I used to and not have to do a ****load of research first.
Samsung S8 -> No root on Snapdragon, maybe ever
LGV20 -> No root on ZV6, but it's being worked on
LG G6 -> No root and from what I've seen things don't look super promising for awhile
I was going to wait a few weeks to see how things are shaking out with the G6, but if the V20 is shipping with the old firmware I'd just buy it now and take the sure bet.

Just picked this phone up with out doing any research... It automatically updated to the v6 before I realized that the phone is set to auto update.. The v7 notification continues, as if I want it! Any news on rooting v6? Guess I'll just exchange this one for a different color and then make sure it does not auto ruin (update) MY phone! :silly:

OTA System Update notice...for April?

I got the popup for a System Update pending. I'm on BRA1 now.
Any reason not to take it?
Where can see the Patch Notes (Never have been to find them easily. The Samsung 'official' would be fine, but is there some fan site that digs digger for techies who want to get past marketing speak and bullet points?
Thanks
Nope don't take it...best thing to do is to wait until you find out whether or not you can Odin back to old firmware...if you one of those who like to mod I would seriously wait until you find out more about it...nothing good ever comes from those who jump the gun...he'll were lucky enough to have root and modifications despite our locked bootloader. (Knocking on wood)

I just tried to root with it, but got stuck in a bootloop. I'm not sure if it's the update, but I'm not new to rooting and know my way around. Fairly certain I didn't screw anything up in the process.

Can you give me the full build number?
G930A Rom
Can anyone please upload the latest (2018) firmware for g930a or g930u to Google drive or mega.nz? Iam pleading lol. I can't download from android host, I have already lost about 2 GB bandwidth as it keeps on stopping and I am on a 4GB internet cap.
