LG V20 - MSL Code for Sprint - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Today i'm expecting the delivery of the LG v20 from Sprint. I've been on Sprint for a while and was able to get the MSL code from them for my current Samsung Note 3 which gave me the ability to get hotspot by changing a a line...
all I had to do was goto ##3282# and it took me to the screen to make some edits once entered the MSL code. All did was go to the APN settings:
For both "APN2 EHRPD internet" and "APN2 LTE internet" change APN Type from "default, mms" to "default, mms, dun"
Now im assuming this would also work on the V20 as well. Now after doing some digging, I found in Feb 2015, sprint implemented a new policy applied of not giving out MSL or SIM codes to unlock your device unless you outright own it. I opted for the leasing program so that ties my to sprint for 2 years and in the meantime, i'm stuck without having that feature unless i change my plan to share my data up to 5 gigs a month after that, they stop access. With my current plan, I've gone past 5 gigs in one month but after looking at the usage, it it was only one time I went past the 5 gig mark. Anyway, I wanted to know if there is a why to get the MSL code off the V20? ??
My only hope is probably getting during activation...i've read several forums, that there are software to calling sprint, which will a very slim chance of getting with the new policy in place... at this point im not to crazy of rooting unless there other benefits that I can use it for... my only concern is getting hotspot setup without changing my plan.

tried the code on mine, doesn't show anything

when you activate your phone online, they'll send you and email, which will have an activation code (in case the device doesn't activate successfully) that would be the MSL code.
Now I just checked the menu and those two settings aren't on the apn settings.
I think they finally caught up on the modification to unlock the hotspot.

So I finally got my phone after 2 weeks ...
after numerous attempts to get the phone activated online...i had no choice to get the phone activated on a chat session...went trough flawlessly...like anything else, its going to take some time to get my phone setup to my liking and get all the contents from the old phone transferred.. I didnt think the rep was going to give me the MSL number since she asked several questions as to why I wanted it...I was persistant and told her I needed in order to reconfigure my LTE settings which I had to do on my old phone...after a minute of silence, I get my 6 digit MSL code!
Unfortunately as kbrn stated, the settings are not available or it maybe elsewhere that needs to be changed...for now, I may need to goto sprint and switch my plan to include the hotspot feature unless I find out a way..
Does anyone know where to make these changes??.

directions on how to tether a mogul, touch pro, touch diamond.snap or any other windows phone so here it goes
go to resco.com and download the trial version of registry editor and follow this path
Using a registry editor, make the following changes:
HKey_local_machine\Comm\InternetSharing
Delete this string: Extension - isext.dll
next delete this string aswell = forcecallconnection
Hkey_local_machine\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings\F orceCellConnection
once these strings are deleted the the phone will use the packet data settings for the internet sharing feature and boom no more error 67 when you are using the pam and you get a little better speeds because you are not using the third party app and it is free. when the trial version of resco expires your settings will remain the same and you can uninstall the registry editor and the pam will still work have any trouble let me know
BUT DO NOT DELETE ANY OTHER STRINGS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING THIS IS THE CORRECT SETTINGS FOR THE INTERNET ONLY . if you have any trouble let me know i will guide you threw the process
how do you get the internet to work on your boost phone?
yes its activated now. I can do video or what ever and its not the chip im suing the CDMA network. they have CDMA down south I have instructions. I've dont it 5 times for friends. I have picture mail, Tethering 3g EDGE, Great coverage unlimited for 50 dollars, EVERYTHING,
Its this simple here my simple 123 list
1 bought 60 dollars worth of minutes. you need 65 cause of activation fee. I got him to waive the fee.
2.get it activated BOOST CDMA ONLY, I USED MOTO c290 for BOOST. use it for a few hours. Use one of the the 13 states that have the service, if yours is not avail on the list dont try it, wont work. I USED FLORIDA NC,TX,CA work
3 call back with other phone get DEC using the back label or ##786# (new Phone)
4 They will give you your MSL code something like ##343456# change number and msid. it should reboot.
5 go to ##3282# and reset your network settings, if the net doesn't work, soft reboot twice. and boom. you got it working
This works on all SPRINT PHONES. Enjoy
Do you need to activate a boost cdma phone first
Do you need to activate a boost cdma phone on the account first and then call and change to the ESN of the HTC phone or can you activate the sprint phone on boost
Not working for me?
I completed all 5 steps, and the first 4 worked, but to use ##3282#, and tell it to reset the internet (mine says "Update Profile?"), when I do that it says:
"Preparing Vision Services, Please Wait..." then it Resets the Radio, and says "Error #1012 Provisioning Error.
It is trying to provision it connecting to Sprint with my Boost Mobile (@myboostmobile.sprintpcs.com) username... will that effect it? Phone and texting work, just no internet (haven't tested MMS yet
in order for the phone to provision you need your user name and password on the connection part(#777) should be something like [email protected] and you password should be a 6 digit one if you dont know the password try to just leave it blank.

Do you see a reset? what you want is IOTA to begin when you restart the phone, by resetting the network profile. it will not effect anything but the internet. so everything should work.
In the ##3282# menu the only buttons I have are "Update Profile", "Modify", and "Next" which goes to another screen of data settings.
I am running a Palm Treo 800w... so it may be a little different. Palm seems to have tried to improve things, but right now the Provisioning/Activation screen that pops up anytime I try to access data is driving me nuts... I can send screenshots if u think that may help.
yea that could help there should be a soft key item that says reset. And BTW its windows mobile right?

You actually need the MIN and the MSID, both of which are provided by your carrier (MSID is your phone number if I'm not mistaken).

Solution
The solutions that worked for me :
I did a ##3282# and put my 6-digit MSL code. From Menu --> Restore. This basically removed previous Sprint settings but did not put new Boost network settings.
I then went to Start --> Settings --> System tab --> Update Profile. This update took about 3 minutes and at end of which my web works on the device.
If I ever go into the ##3282# now, I see the Boost network connection settings!
No Hassle IDEN to CDMA Switch on Boost
I have read so much on these forums and other forums about how to get this accomplished until my eyes were crossed. So finally, I just said, "what the heck" let me just give boost support a call. Now, I have already been a boost IDEN customer for over a year. My phone was the Nextel 8350i. I used one of boost cheap phones to start my service back then and immediately went to activate my phone on boost website and the 8350i worked. Of course I had to copy the correct copy books and setting to get all of the functions to work on that phone.
Anyway, late last night, after midnight CST, I called boost support and told them I want to migrate my service from IDEN to CDMA. The rep never asked me what kind of phone it was, only for the DEC number. I gave her that and she switched my service. However, she told me that Boost was experiencing some technical issues and that my service wouldn't be on until the morning. This morning everything seemed to be working OK, not great and my text messaging was fully working. I called Boost and they told me it will take 48 to 72 hours for my text to work to other carriers, but it will work now on sprint, nextel and boost. I guess I will see if my text works in a few days, but besides that everything was pretty smooth. I can't believe that after all the reading and all the things these forums are telling people, I can't believe it was so simple.
if you have a 8350i you have idem and will be idem for ever.you only get cdma service with a cdma phone.
Works Treo Pro on Boost Mobile USB tether
Well I followed the instructions and performed the following steps and it works for me.
1. Download PHM Registry Editor (ver 0.70 I think was the one most found)
2. Change the word (ForceCellConnection) to (OldForceCellConnection) in the selected internet sharing directory. Yes the file comes back, but I think this somehow releases the ghosting/menu drop down selections.
DIRECTORY WAS HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/INTERNET SHARING/SETTINGS
3. Went into the folder right above that HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/INTERNET SHARING/ and deleted all the files in that folder.
4. Pulled the battery.
5. Went into PROGRAMS/INTERNET SHARING
6. Set up the modem to work either usb and bluetooth with my laptop.
Tested the tether speed today and it came back 1.93 Mbs download and 0.51Mbs upload. bluetooth was a little slower.
My OLD phone was a 8350i, my new phone is a Sprint HTC Touch Pro, and I just called Boost and told them I wanted to switch from iDEN to CDMA and they switched me without issue.
HTC Touch Pro 2 boost USB tethering
The steps above removed the "Error 67" and the computer sees the phone as a modem. But the phone status hangs for ever on "Waiting for network".
Thank you all for the previous threads. Is there something new I should do in order to have tethering?
Thanks again.
Note: I don't want WiFi tethering, only USB to computer tethering.

Xoom activation issues?

I know a lot of folks plan on tethering their Xooms, but I thought I would actually try activating it since I'm not on contract and can cancel/suspend at any time.
I go into Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Activate device, I touch 'activate', it works for a moment, then errors out saying "Unable to activate mobile data service. To try activation again, touch Try Again."
I've seen other folks complain about this, but I didn't see a solution. Is it something obvious I'm missing, or do I actually have to call in to VZW and do it over the phone? If the latter, that's really a letdown, considering I can activate a new phone in seconds without talking to a CS rep. Just thought I'd ask to see if I'm missing something before I call.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
Did you activate it with Verizon? ie, do you have a Verizon account and have activated it either with BestBuy, Costco, Verizon store, or over the phone? You have to register the device with the company first. Phones are the same way on Verizon. AT&T and T-Mobile use Sim cards instead, and they are already 'active'.
If not, press the SKIP button on the bottom right to activate over WiFi. It's not worth the $20/mo for 1GB and $35 activation fee.
Yup, I was one of people that was having a lot of trouble with this. The device wont activate by it self, this is what you have to do you have to go to the verizon website and go to their phone activation page and enter your Xooms MEID HEX number (found on the plastic wrap which was covering the back, when you first unboxed it, so make sure you didnt throw away the plastic wraping). From there, you just have to follow the on screen instructions. Also the website asks for your SSN and your Drivers license number for credit approval (this took a whole day) after that they will contact you saying you are ready and that now you can go into settings and network and click activate device.
Also if you by any chance threw away the plastic wrapping, you can find the MEID HEX number on the Xooms box itself. Also to get to the verizon activation site faster al you have to do is google "verizon activation" ----> then click on the second link "Activate Your Verizon Phone | Verizon Wireless" then just enter your Xooms MEID HEX number.

THANK YOU, this is what I was looking for! I had tried logging into my VZW account to activate a new device, and all it would allow was for a new phone, not a new device/data package on our account. I couldn't even enter an MEID.
Found the link in question, I can enter the MEID and establish new service.
For anyone else wondering:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/activate-phone.shtml
I still find it a bit strange that the entire activation process can't be handled through the Xoom itself - seems like you should be able to enter your VZW account into (if you have one already), pick a plan, click through, etc. Activating a phone on an existing line of service is trivially easy via *228, you don't even need to enter an MEID. Not to mention, I do believe you can activate service directly on the iPad, can you not?
I received my Xoom yesterday and after it found my network and I entered the pass key it connected and worked without issue all night. Just got home from work today and it says "no internet connection." It keeps trying to obtain an IP address but just times out and tries again. Its been doing this for a half hour. I tried rebooting it but still the same. Any ideas?

That was exactly my question as well, i think what happened was that Verizon setup according to their original plan, which was to have people activate in store so people would pay for the activation fee and have a credit approval done so that they would have no problems in the future. But due to the recent uproar from the android community about the "required 1 month plan" they decided to drop the plan at the last minute. So hence the reason why you have to go through all this trouble to activate 3g, because it was never set to be an out of the box activation or at least that is what I would conclude through my experience. iPad on the other hand (was an owner of the iPad) AT&T set it up according to apples request, which was to have the device out of the box ready for activation. They made it simple by allowing people to just create an account and enter their credit card information, and pick their plan. Reasons to why these companies have such a different approach to this situation.....I have no idea. But there probably is a reason, but iam just not aware of it.

1.) I'm in no way calling you stupid, but have you made sure that airplane mode isnt on?
2.) Since you said you tried a restart and that seemed to not work, try restarting your wireless router.
3.) If that doesnt work, just try and disconnect and reconnect to the network.
If none of these work then you might have to call motorola.
I did not realize I would have to pay the activation fee everytime I wanted to have a data plan. That's very frustrating considering it's the same cost as a months data for 3GB. I wanted to turn it off an on as I needed (on a month-to-month basis) but I will probably just leave it off now...kinda makes me want to sell my 3G model and get a wifi only...unless I'm understanding this wrong?

I read somewhere that you can suspend your account instead of cancelling which will avoid this but I am not sure if this works since I have never had Verizon.

I looked into that, but it looks like you can only do it for a couple of months, and also only once a year.
Seriously, that sucks. Why charge an activation fee for something that can be done completely automated online? Not like there's some dude sitting there setting all these up manually...just a way to make quick and easy money on VZW's part.

I wish they had rollover data like AT&T rollover minutes. That would make it more appealing to keep the month to month service. Verizon is just way expensive.

You need to find a carrier that uses CDMA and ask them if they can activate it. There is no other option really. My first guess would be that there are no carriers like that.

I think that I have same issue. I bought my XOOM in bestbuy ( US ) and brought it to Europe. Here I have O2 SIM card with 3G Data program. I am trying to use it with XOOM but no success so far.
Bauxite - are you trying to say that 3G module inside of XOOM is different for US as is requred in EU? Are there some different standards of 3G? I am worried that I could save couple of hundreds $ if I bought only WIFI version

Why didn't you research what you were buying before spending more than $800? The Xoom you bought is a CDMA device and will not work on GSM networks.

wifi tether with out root or a tethering plan

The first thing you need is your MSL code from Sprint/your service provider . You can do this by simply calling the Sprint customer service/your providers customer service and ask for the MSL code after saying an alibi like slow connection(i just said i wanted for personal records ). You can also use any MSL utility app that is working on your device.
Now open the dialer and enter ##DATA# (##3282#)
Click on the Edit button in the popup and enter your MSL code and click OK.
Now navigate to APN settings from the Mobile Networks menu and open APN2 EHRPD Internet and APN2 LTE internet individually and change APN Type to default, mms, dun.
Save the settings in both the APN configurations and reboot the device.

so how do you actually use it. does it unlock some toggle or something?

You turn on the factory wifi Hotspot that comes built it.
Without the mod it will not turn on, and a pop up message that says your not subscribed to a tethering plan or something to that extent will show up. After this mod it turns on as if you were paying the carrier for a plan. This is not new for the note 5 nor is it different. Please look under older Samsung phones if you can't find what your looking for. The instructions on how to do it are exactly the same as note 4 and other phones.
Yeah i found it. i saw the bluetooth and usb but not wifi. i found it, dont know how i missed it. apparently i have a plan because it lets me tether out of the box.
Confirmation working with my sprint device.

Do you have Verizon or a plan that's not unlimited? If you pay per GB for data or have limited data plan they usually don't care how you use it. People like myself that have unlimited data and sprint they lock it down to get you to pay extra for sharing your unlimited data.
This msl code is different for each number?
What about fully unlocked phone, isn't this feature already there by default? I never bought subsidized phone from carrier, I always bought unlocked from overseas, where tethering was always available,so I don't know how this thing works.
My son bought unlocked iPhone 6 plus and he can tether as well. So it is only not working by default on subsidized phones?
this is the same method i used back with my Sprint S6e. but i'm wondering about my Note 5 Duos. i haven't gone out to get any SIMS yet. i'm currently wirelessly tethered to my S6e.

Help:Can't get my mxpe activated on Verizon prepaid with sim starter pack.

Yesterday I bought a $50 starter pack from Verizon prepaid to get a sim card because my last phone didn't use a Sim. So I go to the store to get help activating it. They told me that I'd need to call cs because they didn't provide support for prepaid. So I called & everything went well until the tech had me to restart the phone & try o make a call. All I got was a notice to reboot my phone because there was an error. So the cs guy transferred me to tech support where I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with a lady that wasn't able to get the phone working. She kept telling me the phone wasnt in the system, even though the 1st guy added it with no problem. She then wrote up a ticket to escalate the issue to an advanced department & says they should figure something out in 48hrs. In the meantime I asked if I whould be credited these 3 days that I paid for & won't actually have service, answer: no. Smh.
Additional info my phone now shows the Verizon network & level of service in status bar. However it sometimes says no sim, emergency calls only.
If anyone has any suggestions at all as to what I can do or say to them to get this fixed it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
Did you try to do it online ? The website will see the imei number and should let you add it.
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
I tried doing it online first & when that didn't work I called. I've still not heard anything from the uber tech ppl @ Verizon. The lady I spoke with didn't give me the ticket #, blue I'm wondering if it was actually submitted.
This may or may not help, but I had a time trying to get my XPE activated on VZW last week. I tried to activate it online, on the phone with Verizon, at a Verizon store and finally at Best Buy. The only reason the Best Buy guy helped me is that he and his roommate had recently bought one so he knew it would work.
I think in the end what it was is that the I and others were putting in the IMEI instead of the MEID. The IMEI is one digit longer and you need to use the shorter number. The guy at Best Buy said something to that effect in passing, but I did not follow up with him on it. Try using the MEID by going to About Phone->Status->IMEI Info and using the MEID for activating.
Another thing to note - if you get the MEID by typing in *#06# into the dialer keypad, it brings up the longer number, even though it says it is the MEID, it is really showing you the IMEI. Hopefully this helps someone.
I'm glad to hear you were able to get yours activated! Trying the MEID is a good suggestion, but it didn't work. That's the # requested when you try to activate online. I'm going to spend a few hours on the phone with tech support today & see if they have figured out a solution.
Maybe try calling back at a different time. I was SO reluctant to buy this phone only because I KNEW I’d end up having to call Verizon and deal with the support line. Amazingly, the first lady I talked to knew exactly what phone I was using and got it working in seconds. I'm on unlimited & she did her due diligence in trying to convert me to a different plan (unsuccessfully).
My connection and speed has been miserable at best though… My APN settings were on global, I switched it to CMDA 2 days ago, the connection has gotten faster/better. It's still unreliable though, I don't think I live in an area THAT saturated with Verizon customers... still trying to find a solution for constant/good connection/speeds. I’m not doing anything that would put me in the throttled group either… just slow-garbage connection. Not completely happy with the phone yet. *Completely stock.
Edit: By "I" I mean, "My wife's". This phone was my attempt to convert her from Apple and this situation isn't helping at all.
The trick is to activate the sim card, then put it in the MXP. If you can borrow someone's Verizon phone (i.e. They put their sim in your MXP to free their phone) then you should have no problem getting Verizon to activate a free and clear Verizon phone. Once activated just swap sims back.
I buy/sell/trade phones all the time (had my sim in 3 today). The only time I've had an issue activating on Verizon is when I messed up my sim and only had a Sprint/unlocked Nexus 6 to use at the moment. It took me hours to get a tech to activate. Finally he pulled up an old IMEI from my account and used that phone to activate my sim.

I had trouble activating on prepaid aswell a store was nice enough to give me a sim card and I called and it took 2 representatives to activate and an old galaxy s3 meid I had laying around for some reason.

Verizon can't legally throttle you based on your unlimited data and/or monthly usage. They can and will, however, throttle you if you're in a congested area. Every time we go to sporting events, shows, or any type of big event where hundreds of phones are pinging the same tower my service crawls. At my home (in the country) I don't even use WiFi because my phone runs circles around my 60 MBPS Charter WiFi (which rarely/never sees 60 MBPS).
Do you live in the city, an apartment, anywhere that's congested?
Also, in case you weren't aware your bill will be going up $20 per line for every unlimited line not currently under contract. The cut off to get under contract was 11/15 so my 2 lines will cost me an extra $40 on my next billing cycle.
EDIT - Not sure of the legality of them throttling unlimited users but Verizon did try to implement that. They caught so much flak from users and the FCC, they opted to increase monthly charges and only throttle the top 1% of data users on any given tower during periods of heavy use.

Had the same exact problem last weekend. Tried to do it online...wouldn't work. Went into the Verizon store and they couldn't do it either. They activated the sim in another phone, set up the account, then moved the sim to my phone and then ported my phone number over. Took almost two hours to get onto a prepaid plan.
This is only a problem if it's a new account/sim card. If you are pulling a sim from a previous phone, it goes smoothly.

First of all the Pure may not work for pre-paid but it definitely works for post paid. However if you have it working then OK. As for your other issue try changing Settings > under Wireless & networks choose "More" > Cellular networks > Preferred network type > choose LTE/CDMA.
I used to leave mine on Global all the time until a few weeks ago I started getting a message similar if not the same as yours. Everything still worked OK but the error message would not go away no matter what I did...until I stopped using Global. Now I have not tested it recently to see if Global would work again but from reading about the Global setting it is really for when you are "global" that is, out of the country and roaming for a signal that can be used. While here in the USA as long as you have a decent signal for LTE/CDMA then no need for the phone to even try to connect. It should just do so automatically. Give it a try and report back.

LG Stylo 3-Enable Mobile Hotspot, No Root Needed

I don't know if this was covered already but I couldn't find anything on this here.
This is if you want to un-cripple your mobile hotspot without rooting your phone. The "boss lady" and I use our hotspots as our separate full internet services so this is the main reason I've been rooting my phones over the years. Since it's becoming more difficult to root the latest phones this is a wicked alternative. This worked on my Cricket Stylo 3 M430 and it should work on others. Also worked on an LG V10. Didn't work on an LG Stylo 4 though.
Install an app from the Play Store called "Settings Database Editor" by "4A". This is one of the very best hacking apps I've ever used and it doesn't require root. The app is free and no ads so I'm sending this brother 5 bones because he deserves it. Read his info instructions and warning in his Play Store page.
Before you do anything with the app, attempt to enable your hotspot and let the bloody thing tell you it ain't going to work. Then close it out. This will make sure it writes a line inside the thing that says: "tether_entitlement_check_state" "5" because sometimes it's not there to edit. You could write the line yourself with the app but it's much quicker and easier to let the bloody thing do it for you.
Now open the app and scroll down "System Table" to that line: "tether_entitlement_check_state" "5" - Now tap the line and choose "Edit Value" and change the 5 (or whatever number it is-usually a 5 or a 1) to a 0 (zero). That's freaking it. Now close the app and enjoy your free Mobile Hotspot!
Btw, I just got this phone, it's on version "M43010g" and according to the LG website support page there is 1 more "Security Update" left for this, version "M43010i". Needless to say I never update anything when I have what I want working. I don't care what Screwgle says the next version does or update has. If my device does what I want it to do I ain't swallowing it, lol.
This did not work on my Stylo 3, I'm on virgin mobile.

I've used premium modified foxfi app for years. had have to know how to set up a proxy and have proxy server on the other device but it's worked. i switched to cricket 2 months ago. no Hotspot with my unlimited plan no problem right well... the app works the hotspot comes on... I can connect to it and the data flows. but then after a month or so, I receive a text message from cricket telling me that they noticed I'm using a proxy as a hotspot and that if I continue to do so that they will disconnect my service. so I'm going to check this out but if they discontinue my service I'm so switching back to Metro **** cricket

Hey brother, I think I know what the problem is. I've been using it on Cricket for 2 years without issue and then 3 weeks ago I got the same message. I think this is what's happening. I've been using it for over 2 years on an unlocked "non"-Cricket phone. Two months ago I got a Cricket Stylo 3 from Cricket because of the discount and didn't give it a second thought. When I got the message I figured it had to be because of the Cricket phone since most cell companies have their phones locked and prog'd a certain way to let them know what's you're doing. So I went back to my unlocked MetroPCS Stylo and so far I haven't been contacted by them again. I think for it to work, with any carrier, is to use an unlocked non-carrier phone. An unlocked MetroPCS phone will not be programmed to inform Cricket of anything and an unlocked Cricket phone will not be programmed to inform MetroPCS of anything. I think that's the only way I've been doing it for over 2 years without issue. Whether its the unlocking that does it or using a non-carrier phone that does it I'm not sure. I'm gong to wait a couple more months and if I don't get messaged about it by then I'm going to try my Cricket Stylo 3 again as I just paid 5 bones for an unlock code and it is now unlocked. If I get messaged about it again then I'll know its not the unlocking that is the thing but using an unlocked non-carrier phone that's the trick.
And btw, the "boss lady" is still using her unlocked MetroPCS phone's Hotspot and she never got the Cricket text message warning that you and I got. What does that tell you?
