Looking for new note 4 or note edge - some advice please, my current phone is fuxored - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been on the Note 4 since it came out. It is fantastic. I am on at&t and have the 910a version.
The Marshmallow update killed my phone for the most part. It locks up every day where i need to pull the battery to reset.
It is slow and laggy. My Music stops for no reason now.
Honestly I wanted a note 7. With all the issues and now the official recall, I still would be inclined to get a note 7 but more trouble than it's worth.
Not going to note 5 (no sd storage) and this is 100% important to me. I have a 256GB card with all my music, emulator roms and phics and such on. No way to go to a note 5.
So I was thinking of buying a new note 4. Starting fresh. Just importing my contacts, call log and texts from my old phone and my apps and settings of course.
I was thinking 2 years later $300 for a new Note edge is pretty nice, considering I went note 4 over the edge becuase of the $200 price difference. I couldn't afford $1G to the $800 the note 4 was when I bought it.
Should I go note edge or just get a new note 4? And if I get a new note 4 should i buy the at&t version again and hope that marshmallow update on a fresh new phone won't be that bad. Or is there a better variant I can buy for at&t? I looked up the 910T (tmobile) then I saw there is a 910U 910C 910ect... I want my LTE to work and I understand some variants are just no good on at&t. Is the 910A the best bet or is there a better variant that will be a better phone (due to different processor) and still run as good as the 910a variant?
Thanks!!
Advice today before midnight would be great as I wouldn't mind getting 10% ebay bucks on a new phone today. So a $300 note edge would only be $270 because I get 10% back in ebay bucks till midnight.

Before buying another note4, have you looked at this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/note-4-freezing-restarting-t3348821
If you're phone is suffering from the same issues as my phone (which is also messed up), you can make it usable again by following the top reply on this reddit post:

For some reason, a lot of other Note 4 users started to have this problem last month. I have found a temp fix to stop it from freezing and restarting.
Step 1. Download Wake Lock from the Play Store
Step 2. Enable Partial_Wake_Lock (number 4)
Step 3. Enable Auto-Start for it to start when your phone boots

I'm hesitant in recommending buying a new note4.. what if it has the same manufacturer's defect and it starts acting up?

No that is not what my phone is doing.
it almost like it has a memory leak. It works fine for 10-15 hrs, but when i plug it in to go to bed at night it locks, sometimes even unplugged just sitting with the screen off for a few hours will do it too.. I can usually get the screen back on but all notifications are frozen, the alarm don't go off, i can usually hold the power button and get the menu to reboot / shutdown to come up, but when i push one of them the confirmation screen never allows me to click YES and reboot or shutdown. I have to pull the battery. SOMETIMES I get lucky and can just hold the powerbutton for 20 seconds and it will just reboot, but most of the time I cant. Pulling the battery is a huge deal for me becuase II have an otterbox defender on the phone and it is a HUGE PAIN to get off.

Mate, I would say install some other Note 4 rom using Odin and you'll be just fine. Just check sammobile or here on xda what's good for your N4 version.

I'd try reinstalling the stock OS back onto your device before you go hunting for a new motherboard.

[Q] Vertically jerking screen problem anybody?

Had been very pleased with this device in the the three months that I've had it. Until yesterday that is.
Basically the screen is jerking up and down on its own. When looking at the homescreen, the only way I can think to describe it is it's like 60% of the screen starting from the bottom is moving up and down by about 2mm on its own. I can see it eating pixels as it does so (it eats into home screen shortcuts). It also does this jerking motion when in an application or using a the keyboard.
I haven't dropped the phone, it hasn't got wet. It is completely stock unrooted and was bought SIM free in the UK in December and not tied to any network.
Things I've tried to fix it :
1.Numerous reboots.
2. Uninstalling the couple of apps that I'd installed around the time I noticed the problem.
3. Just done a full battery drain and now giving it a full charge keeping it switched off to see if does anything, (can't say I'm hopeful).
Next step is to back up / get my data off it and do a factory reset. Despite the bloatware, the stock ROM isn't too bad.
I was also thinking of just rooting it and running a cyanogen mod also.
Would be great if anyone has any ideas what I can try or if they've seen this issue before and remedied it. I can't find anything in Google and I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a random bad luck hardware problem -- which is worse than it might be on account of living in Southeast Asia -- but the device was purchased in the UK in December. Anybody know if there is such a thing as international warranty for LG phones ?
Thank you in advance.
I wouldn't root it send it to lg it sound like a serious hardware problem the g2 seems to be plagued with problems

Yeah I won't bother rooting it. A factory reset has made no difference and it's actually worse now and totally unusable, the screen just pogo's / jitters up and down an inch at time constantly.
The phone was bought on 22th of December, I'm pretty annoyed at getting little more than three months out of it. It would be understandable perhaps if I dropped it, or it go wet, none of these happened and the hardware has just failed for no reason.
For sure the LG repair centre where I livein Bangkok won't want to know as it was bought in the UK. And no doubt I'll get slammed for import duty both ways together with eating the postage sending back to the UK. I think I'll feel better taking a lump hammer to it and make a youtube stating what I think of £400 phones that last 2 months and carry no international warranty.
Have you dropped your phone?
Yep it is sad I hope my g2 doesn't go through the same thing i will definitely get a backup device sooner than later but like I said earlier the g2 seems to be plagued with problems which means the nexus 5 prob has the same problems maybe maybe not I'm a little nervous now because in the us most of us buy our phones locked with contract in the UK everybody buys there devices unlocked without contract from what I've heard if your looking for a new device I would wait for the xperia z2 looks very nice

Hello, same problem with me too, mine screen starts to jittering (like there is an earthquake inside my phone) after the latest update for kitkat, the updates says for optimising apps and such.
But recently i realize if i block my mobile data, and only using wifi for the data transfer, my phone stabilize much much better than when i used GSM/3G to do internet activity. When i used 3G my phone jittering like crazy, sometimes bottom half of my screen is gray pixels and bottom up of my screen dancing like crazy almost 70-80 % of the time. But when i block my mobile data and using only wifi, 80-90% of the time is OK, still a bit jitterish, but waaay much better.
There is also member of this forum experienced this and suggest to full cycle charger for couple of times. He say his phone stabilize after do full cycle charger (depleted ur battery until conpletely empty, than charge to 100% while turning off the phone). Im trying it tonight.
I also consult with some cellphone tech support (in shopping mall). They say maybe when i did my update, there are some data corruptions, so my phone did not update properly (corrupted). Because when you factory reset your phone, people said that it retain the latest update of software. So if you already did a corrupted update, it will stay even if you factory wipe the phone.
Seizure ?

It's a hardware issue, it's been discussed on this forum dozens of times. If nothing helps (including updating to the latest available version), send it in for repairs.

Nope, still my screen jittering...
Does anybody know how much LG would charge to fix this.

Im taking it in on LG Service Center this morning, the tech guy said its Hardware problem, about some sockets loose or something like that, He fix it and because im still have the warranty, so its free, no idea how much if the warranty is expired. And i still retain the KitKat OS (4.4.2). but my data is wiped out.
So far no jitters... I let you guys know if the jitters comeback.

After 15 months own this phone, now this problem came to me too so unlucky because this happened after my warranty end...
Such a beautiful monster with so many hardware (screen or lcd) defects
I got same issue recently for many days, typically starts after turning screen on. Finally got it fixed by discharging fully and charging back again. No issue now. And I try not to charge phone too often only when battery is close to zero. Try charge and recharge a few times if it doesn't work. Works for me ?
Passing this on so others can benefit.

Stay with Note 4 or switch to iPhone 6s Plus?

Hey guys! So I have a hard decision to make now.
Quick Story:
I bought iPhone 6 Plus in December last year. I had quite enough saved money to afford it.
Before iPhone I had Note 3 but I had to sell it because it barely worked anymore. Battery life was terrible, I couldn't use my phones camera cause it always crashed(force closed) on all roms I flashed, except for Stock Samsung roms.
I spent 5-6 months with my IPhone but I missed the features that Note 3 had + Specs! Come on guys! Octa-core, 16MP camera, 4K recording, S-Pen, ANDROID 5.0! Pretty much all I needed. So I traded my IPhone for Note 4 that someone used for a month.
Problems started after 2 months. At this point I can't take photos(they don't save, even on stock samsung rom), charging is terrible, takes 2 hours to charge it and then battery goes down after like 40-60 minutes of use(even after buying new battery), like a week ago I discovered that I can't even charge my phone anymore! Every time I plug my phone in (no matter if it's computers USB or it's original charger) It just doesn't charge. I found way to charge it though, and all I have to do is to charge it when the phone is turned off. Magically battery charges within around an hour, and I can use my phone for up to 3-4 hours.
Why aren't You going to take it to Samsung Service Center? Well. I took my Note 3 there, and all they did is that they cleaned battery pins and yeah, that's it.
One positive word to IPhone haters! My IPhone had a broken call speaker after like 3 weeks of use, but then I took it to Apple Genius Bar and got it fixed within 15-20 minutes.
So help me guys! Should I sell my Note 4 for some "acceptable" money and buy IPhone 6s Plus in a couple of months, or.. Any ideas?
I am personally switching too, maybe I need a break from Android after 8 years of regular usage. I've too had the 6s Plus and I really loved it but I let it go for the Note 4 just like you coz, damn it looked impressive but just in few months my eyes opened Switch to CM ROM's and heck, I love my Note 4 but guess it's time to keep at as a backup device! Happily switching to the 6s Plus next month, it's a power-horse and does everything I need it to and damn, it's a phone which works like a phone and that's all I need and want it to do!
P.S don't hit me for this people, I need simplicity in life for some time, might return after 2-3 years, who knows.
I see no reason other than wanting to play games that are not on Android, but at some point all will come sooner or later
Do you always let ppl make your choices?
Stay on android

Note 4 Issues

Good afternoon,
I have a AT&T Note 4 and I am at my wits ends. When you try and restart the phone it will just shut down and then it will not power up for 10-15 minutes at all. The phone will also shut down randomly. It will lag and not unlock sometimes. It just seems to freeze. Sometimes on start up it goes to the Odin screen or gets stuck on restarting and never makes it to the colored SAMSUNG screen. I have replaced the battery to eliminate that possibility. The software is up to date also. I have trouble shot this thing to death. What am I missing? The GPS also way off and it started being off a year and a half almost after the phone was new. I am talking 250-500 feet off. It is mostly off while moving making navigation impossible.

i wish there would be a way to make Samsung accept the fact that THERE IS something wrong with our Notes!!!
short verdict - it is dying. install wake lock application, add it to start up and set settings to #4.
accept the fact that your phone will eat the battery faster and one day WILL die completely

Thanks for the response. Yup that is what the issue is. I have been a Samsung fan for years. The fact that they refuse to acknowledge this may drive me away from getting another one. I have spent hours researching and trying to narrow down the issues and find the fix.

Note7 already having issues. Seems like Samsung may have some serious issues going on. Ill have to get my hands on a Nexus and look at it.
Just finished switching to 6P, for better or for worse. Looks great, love the octa core, but the new Google phone is supposed to be announced in a month, and there's no expandable storage. But, I was ready to upgrade and the last few months with my note4 have been brutal. After hearing how many people were also having issues with Samsung (plus the note 7 exploding battery thing), I'm more than ready to come back to Nexus and leave the Note behind. Tbh probably just gonna thrash it until it completely dies lol

How can I break my snapdragon note 3?

So I'm gonna be blunt, I have a Galaxy note 3 bought in 2014, got an extended warranty which expires on February 16. This extended warranty says that if my device breaks and cannot be repaired in 5 working days, they will replace the phone with a new one, same model or another phone of similar value.
I've already done this with 2 tablets, a Galaxy note 10.1 and a Nexus 10 tablet (from samsung as well), both of them had a broken USB port after around 3 years and weren't charging at all.
I planned to do this as well with my note 3, but the darn thing won't break. I tried keeping it with display turned on at max brightness, charged 24/7 and running a cpu stress test. Was hoping for at least a screen burn in, but nothig, this phone runs as well as it did in the first day, even the battery is original but it's pretty deteriorated.
Anyone has any ideas how break this phone but make it look like it happened "naturally"? I was thinking of hard bricking it but didn't find anything conclusive on Google/xda.*
I'm pretty sure it won't last more then 5 years, might as well get some money for a new phone.

OnePlus 7t pro McLaren 5g T-Mobile overheating

Is anyone else having overheating issues ? It seems to be very bad when using 5g the phone gets so hot it has to go into "cool down" mode. I have a warranty replacement coming I was just wondering if anyone else was having the same issue.
I cannot use 5g on my phone without overheating issues. I noticed it happens more if im travelling, possibly because of 5g and LTE signals changing so frequently back and forth in 5g dead zones. This is also the first thread i find on this device and issue. Is TMobile sending you a new device. I had touch screen issues with my S10 Plus before 30 days of having it since launch date and TMobile refused to send me a new device. They said they send devices people return within their 14 day period.

It does run decent with 5g off for me too but with not many people making mention of having issues with the overheating I don't wanna wait too long to get a replacement Incase it's due to a defective phone.
Are you getting an actual overheating message? The phone getting warm using a 5G modem is perfectly normal. If the phone is shutting itself down to cool down or giving you some overheat message then it is indeed overheating. You might be able to use an app like cpu-z to see the temperature too.

Yes getting an actual overheating warning , and after it cools it gives another message saying it's back to normal but it runs really laggy for awhile afterwards.

Ugh, that's no good. I hope Oneplus put a proper cooling system in this device with 5G in mind.

I haven't had a single issue with my phone. Granted I'm not sure about the whole GPS thing as I don't use gps that much. Though heat wise my phone's gotten warm on gaming but has not overheated once. Even when I was using it with 5G
I've gotten a lot of dropped calls, a lot more than my s8+.
I just used the GPS for a 7hr drive and it worked great. No issues.
My battery life is getting a bit better after disabling battery optimization.
I've gotten my replacement device, I have been trying to purposely get it to overheat and have not been able to . So I'm assuming it was an issue with the phone itself.
I got mine yesterday. New tmo customer.
I played DC Legends. Within 3 minutes it was hot. Not warm but hot. Never had any other phone get that hot. I played maybe 15 minutes but it was hot. I could feel the heat an inch away without touching. So I’m returning it.
The home screen won’t rotate and the heat problem I am returning it. I can’t imagine why in the world OnePlus refuses to let you rotate the home screen. I need that.
Plus default settings the phone said I wasn’t connected to cell when I was in play store. It said 5g up top but changed to 4g and back to 5g several times real fast. Web sites sometimes hesitated to load for awhile.
I don’t know if I should try another considering that you can’t rotate the home screen and how hot it got and the connection issue.

It's a great phone, my replacement has no overheating issues. I have had pretty much every flagship phone up to date and this is by far my favorite. If you can get over the home screen not rotating you should just return it and get a replacement. If the rotating home screen is a deal breaker for you just return it and get a phone that you are happy with. As far as the 5g goes I am really enjoying it. I'm getting very good speeds in my area and can't really say I have any complaints.
Thanks. I'm going to exchange it. I just used the merge call feature with tmo support for a 3 way call and that's awesome. Plus I do like the phone. And someone said there's an app that forces landscape. So I'm going to try it.
I wonder though if the phone should get as hot as I described. I never got any overheating message but I could hold my hand over the screen an inch or so and feel the heat. Plus I consider that it was very hot when I would touch the screen and I've never had a phone this way before.

Well I have been playing cod alot on the highest brightness setting with no overheating, the original one I had that I exchanged I couldn't play more than a few min. Without it overheating, I couldn't even watch YouTube without overheating. The only way to get it to work without overheating was to turn off 5g. I do not have any heat issues with the new one.
I could not get over the home screen not rotating. So I got the note 10 +. I have that with xfinity.
But I’m still not sure if I want to keep it. I really liked the mclaren but it got so hot and home screen won’t rotate.
Tmo charged me $50 restock because I did not prove to them the issue. I didn’t want to waste my time. I had already reset it and wanted to just get out. So I’m so disappointed that I don’t really like any phones out that tmo has.
Ugh.
