Stay with Note 4 or switch to iPhone 6s Plus? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys! So I have a hard decision to make now.
Quick Story:
I bought iPhone 6 Plus in December last year. I had quite enough saved money to afford it.
Before iPhone I had Note 3 but I had to sell it because it barely worked anymore. Battery life was terrible, I couldn't use my phones camera cause it always crashed(force closed) on all roms I flashed, except for Stock Samsung roms.
I spent 5-6 months with my IPhone but I missed the features that Note 3 had + Specs! Come on guys! Octa-core, 16MP camera, 4K recording, S-Pen, ANDROID 5.0! Pretty much all I needed. So I traded my IPhone for Note 4 that someone used for a month.
Problems started after 2 months. At this point I can't take photos(they don't save, even on stock samsung rom), charging is terrible, takes 2 hours to charge it and then battery goes down after like 40-60 minutes of use(even after buying new battery), like a week ago I discovered that I can't even charge my phone anymore! Every time I plug my phone in (no matter if it's computers USB or it's original charger) It just doesn't charge. I found way to charge it though, and all I have to do is to charge it when the phone is turned off. Magically battery charges within around an hour, and I can use my phone for up to 3-4 hours.
Why aren't You going to take it to Samsung Service Center? Well. I took my Note 3 there, and all they did is that they cleaned battery pins and yeah, that's it.
One positive word to IPhone haters! My IPhone had a broken call speaker after like 3 weeks of use, but then I took it to Apple Genius Bar and got it fixed within 15-20 minutes.
So help me guys! Should I sell my Note 4 for some "acceptable" money and buy IPhone 6s Plus in a couple of months, or.. Any ideas?

I am personally switching too, maybe I need a break from Android after 8 years of regular usage. I've too had the 6s Plus and I really loved it but I let it go for the Note 4 just like you coz, damn it looked impressive but just in few months my eyes opened Switch to CM ROM's and heck, I love my Note 4 but guess it's time to keep at as a backup device! Happily switching to the 6s Plus next month, it's a power-horse and does everything I need it to and damn, it's a phone which works like a phone and that's all I need and want it to do!
P.S don't hit me for this people, I need simplicity in life for some time, might return after 2-3 years, who knows.

I see no reason other than wanting to play games that are not on Android, but at some point all will come sooner or later

Do you always let ppl make your choices?

Stay on android

POLL - Will you or Will you NOT get the S6?

We have now read many articles, blogs and forums on the S6 ... I was just interested in what your thoughts were thus far, and it really boils down to these poll choices.
Please make your selection and lets see what the general mood is!
My wife and I both own S3's and in the morning on more than a few times we have forgotten to charge one phone and just quickly traded to one of our extra OEM batteries that are charged and off we went. We are busy all day with work and such and we don't have the luxury of having a desk at work to be charging our phones to last all day. That is really what disappointed me. We are both ready to upgrade, but are not even sure what to get now since we both really like using the S3.

But would you forget to charge your phone if all you had to do it set it down on a plate?
Also, you really, really can't compare the battery life of an S3 to current gen phones.

Agree that it'd be hard to forget to charge the phone when just dropping it on a plate but am I willing to pay more for said plate just for convience? The phones will already command a premium price and the wireless charging plate doesn't come in the box.

I am not comparing S3 battery with new phones... its not what i typed...
All im saying is that i enjoy just simply popping the battery in the back in 5 seconds and being on my way. That is my preference. If the wireless charger comes included and isnt finicky on placement then yea. In any case i have nothing more to contribute. I really like the way the S6 looks though.
I will get it.
Not
Can't live w/o
Taking out the battery has saved my rear end many times. Also, unless it comes with a 128gb of useable storage I would need a SD slot. I hope that they wouldn't do the same to Note5.

I get what you're saying, I really do, but the battery life on newer devices are just in a different league, and keep in mind you're 3 generations behind. Assuming the S6 has similar battery performance to that of the S5, you will be able to use your phone twice to almost 3 times as long as your current S3.
Also remember, with Quick Charge 2.0, you go from flat to 50% in 30 ish minutes. If you notice you've forgotten to charge your phone when you wake up, plug it in and by the time you head out the door it'll have quite a bit of juice. Again, given the stamina of these new phones, at 50% you're still looking at what you would consider a days worth of usage. The Note 4 comes with a QC2.0 charger, I'm assuming the S6 will as well, so there's no extra charge for this.
It's not perfect, just want to point out that it's not like how it was just even a few short years ago. For example, between I've been running a Z2 and Z3 for the last year or so and with the stamina these devices have, I've never ever gone flat before a day is over. This is including those days where I've had to take a red-eye flight, used the phone the whole flight to listen to music and wasn't around a wall plug the next day. Not a full 48, but a solid 36hrs of moderate to heavy usage.
No due to all of the below:
1. No SD card - I am not paying threefold for internal storage
2. No removable battery - I keep my phones for a long time so I like to have an option to replace battery that won't hold charge anymore
3. Exynos CPU - no more Cyanogenmod means at best I'm stuck with touchwiz, thanks but no, I don't like that bloat on my phones

I need to get away from Sony. I love the phone, but their mobil division is unstable, and I want to switch to a company that is more secure. Samsung S6 won it over for me above the M9 and any other phone
no to all of the above.. even if I was to agree on losing the up until now standard Galaxy features of the battery and SD I would rather get a Nexus

Nexus 5 2013 Owners Get ITT

Will you be upgrading or staying on your current phone?
and it begins...
already sold my N5 in preparation for this. Couldn't handle the monster size phone they put out last year.
I just keep my old nexus 5 if there is something wrong with my new nexus or i give it to someone else close who needs it
I'm still rocking my launch day(ordered) Nexus 5 with no hardware issues whatsoever. Hoping to get lucky and snag a day one device again this time.
Day 1 N5 owner!
Let the new games begin!

Oh, hell. I got a mini heart attack when I saw "Nexus 5X Forums Officially Available!" in my feed-reader. For a few seconds, I was wondering whether Google has officially announced the phones while I was offline. Y u do this xda..!!
Anyway, I hope the new phones have good battery performance. This is my situation with N5 -
1. Keeping the radio at 2G 99% of the time.
2. Location, Sync, Mobile Data, NFC - all are always off unless I need to use some app that needs them.
3. Greenify, Amplify, PowerNap.
4. Turn the screen on as few times as possible.
And yet, the battery drains like nobody's business. WTH...!!
I wish someday I'll have a phone where I won't have to worry about keeping the "Sync" on and the phone can actually be used as a smartphone.
Only got my N5 2013 last October, but I still can't wait to jump on the N5x train.
For me.. I'll use my Nexus 5 till it gives up. Nexus 5 will remain a legend and its legacy will continue with 5X.
Day 1 user here as well...
Quite frankly my only gripe with this phone has been the average/below average battery life... Otherwise been very satisfied... Not complaining about the pics either... Think they come out quite well...
Will be interesting to see what they do with the new cameras...
i use a motox 2014 since december when i trashed my n5 (RiP)
i am satisfied so far but i can not wait to jump the nexus train gain
Day 1 owner of the N5, and looking forward to being a day 1 owner of the N5X.
The N5 has been easily the best phone I've ever owned. Honestly, if the battery life was even average at this point I'd probably put off buying a new phone until next year. The usability of the phone is still top notch.
For you day 1 N5 folks, you should probably look into replacing the battery. It's quite easy and totally worth it. I did and I finally get decent battery life like back in 2013.
I kept my N5 since launch and just grabbed it tonight to tinker. Sold my N6 looking for smaller and went with G4. Very excited to be ordering a 5X soon

Very true. Battery life became really good after putting in a new one in April. Especially after 5.1.1.
However, I sold it in prep for the new N5. Very excited.

Had the OG Nexus 5 a month after it came out, but ended up giving it to my brother April 2015 after he broke his phone. I now have the Galaxy S6, but man do I miss my Nexus 5. I'm pretty set on buying the Nexus 5X once it comes out.
I bought mine few weeks after launch. Everything is perfect but I am planning to buy a new one because of 2 reasons:
1. Battery life is terrible - a week ago I replaced it and I noticed a small increase in SOT, but nothing extreme... I used to get 2 hours SOT, now with the new battery I get somewhere between 2.5 - 3 hours SOT. I want something that will get me 5-6 SOT and I believe there is something with that amount of SOT on the market... I hope 5X or 6P will be the ones.
2. My screen is a little bit cracked. I dropped it several times, but the last time the screen cracked a tiny bit on the corner. Its unnoticeable unless you really looking, but still it bothers me....
day 1 nexus 5 user here. It's an excellent phone, until one day I slept on it and my elbow put pressure on the screen. Now there are dead spots on the screen, so I can't type "E" anymore unless I go landscape mode. Without this, I might still use the nexus 5 and skip nexus 5x because I'm cheap. That said, I really love my Nexus 5, and I can imagine the Nexus 5x will be even better.

If you've checked and there's nothing keeping the CPU or radio awake, it might be time to replace your battery. It's been two years since the Nexus 5 2013's release, many of those batteries are wearing out.

Shelf Life?

To those who own the MXPE: Do you see this phone lasting 2ish years before needing an upgrade?
I'm getting ready to pull the trigger (via work), but I will pretty much absolutely be locked down for 2 years.
I understand NO phone is future-proof, just trying to get some insight from those who own this. I also understand most people here and who will post here probably like their phone. Again, just looking for some first hand experience.
This is not a compare "x" phone to this one.
I think it will for me. Hell, I had my Nexus 5 for two years and that's the longest I have ever had a phone. Usually a month or two did it for me. I'd buy a phone on a whim and go back to the Nexus 5 every time. This seems to be another phone like that for me.
As long as it gets 6.0 at some point, that will be just fine by me. I kept the Nexus 5 on 4.4.2 until just a few months ago.
No reason to feel it won't last 2 years. The standard now is 2 years of updates. And I feel the construction of the device will last.

I think shelf life has much more to do with the user than the phone. If you don't want something new and shiny, and you don't break your phone, there's no reason it won't "last." But we all get the itch....
I had an Samsung Galaxy s3 for 2yrs. I know people that have had the S3 since it came out 3yrs ago. If the s3 can last 3yrs this phone can last 2yrs.

Personally, no I don't. Unless a stock or aosp rom enhances battery life twice what it is now. I came from the LG g3 that had the same size battery and I feel it lasted A LOT longer. I will be selling mine at the turn of the year for a Nexus 6p once all the hype has calmed down and I may be able to snatch a used one fairly cheap.
Beats the heck out of my Nexus 5 in the battery department. so I'll be happy for a long while.
How will the battery hold a charge 18 months from now? Nobody knows at this point. Doesn't matter if Marshmallow helps with battery life on a day-to-day basis. As long as the movable parts hold up...power switch, volume rocker, gyroscope, etc. then the phone should last more than two years. But, will we choose to replace the battery if it starts to go south? Tear down is available but not as easy as one would like in order to swap batteries.

Yeah, the N5 set the bar so low for me in the battery dept that anything is a huge improvement
I'm looking at replacing my Note 3, but only because I won't be getting any new updates. If there would be updates, I figure I'd keep it at least 1, if not 2 more years.
With an unlocked bootloader, you can get updates, as long as someone keeps working on them, and that's why I'm looking so closely at the MXPE. (My old ASUS TF201 has lollipop, but no updates from ASUS for 2+ years!)
I got 2 years out of my Moto G 2013 without too much bother... If the X-Style gets similar android support, this will last 2 years easy for me. Maybe more.

I came from 2 years on an HTC One M7. Loving the Pure so far - the fast charge makes a huge difference. I can easily see it lasting me 2-3 years as long as the dev community supports it with the latest roms.
The build is about the same as the S3 (had it for two years) and G3.
Both phones lasted. I think this phone will last, so long as you're not crazy clumsy or forgetful.
This is the first no carrier phone I bought because I have VZ and need a decent camera. Lasting with me depends on whether there is another phone next year with features that outdoes this one.

Opinions from owners

I just upgraded to a LG G5 with BestBuy since it was 1/2 off. This phone isn't bad by any means but I do have 14 days of time to swap the phone out for something else. I want to know what your guys experiences have been like since the phone has been out for a good month now.
Things I really look for in a phone are Battery and Camera.
What's your average battery life? Does the phone get really warm when QI charging? Autofocus and Camera quality? And just any other general things you think are important.
I've had phones from both LG and Samsung (Galaxy S5 and Nexus 5), but this time upgrading I found it a close tie between phones.
Thanks for any info. I appreciate it. Just don't want to get stuck with a phone I dislike for 2 years.
EDIT:
Welp, just noticed that there is an entire forum dedicated to reviews of the phone's features.
Mod's/Admins delete this thread if you need to
Upgraded? Yeah no... I love lg now a days but huge downgrade...
Sent from my SM-G935P using XDA-Developers mobile app
LG is a downgrade to a Samsung phone or tablet, camera is great, battery is one day with the right battery saving apps will run all day, get about 3 hours screen time, doesn't get hot on normal use or charge with Qi.

Nougat appreciation and battery replacement experience

I just wanted to share how happy i've been with the Nougat update and share my experience with battery replacement. This phone is 2 years old and man i still think this phone can hang in 2017. It's snappy enough for me. I was getting jealous of my sisters s7e with N running. Now that I have it on my s6 i feel like the phone is brand new. Im a happy camper. Also I wanted to share my experience with changing my battery. I bought a replacement battery of ebay and swapped it when i found out my old one was busting out the back cover (defective) and was dying minutes after fully charging. Just replacing the battery i got more use. SoT is 15 minutes shy of 5 hours compared to my before time of 3 hours. stanby with music and light usage is about 24 hour with 20 percent still left. All i do to try to keep the battery in good condition is never letting it run below 20 percent and using greenify. I don't know if Nougat helped battery life but my phone has felt brand new to me from just replacing battery and updating to N. Let me know your experience with battery and how you are liking Nougat. I just flashed to Nougat on Tmo so i might be late to party ive heard some have been running it for months now.

I ran stock unrooted nought since the ota came out here. I had no issues until I made that mistake of installing substratum for touchwiz roms. It worked fine for a little while until the themed apps got updated breaking them one by one. Since I was forced to wipe it anyway I rooted and installed golden eagle Rom which I'm really happy with so far. A lot of benefits over stock.
So far my battery hasn't had any issues and hopefully it won't for a while. I don't run it low or use quick charge if I can help it. The phone is almost 2 years old.
S6 is very bad Google pxl is the boss
If I could buy a Google pixel for anywhere near as cheap as the s6 I would. Your comment isn't very helpful. I personally find the s6 to be a really decent phone for it's age. Especially since I never liked any Samsung phones before this because I always found them to be cheaply made, laggy and buggy.

so do you just uncheck the fast charging option in the settings when you want to charge it and aren't in a hurry? is there study into fast charging causing battery to die out faster? sounds interesting
I haven't heard of any study but typically batteries in general like slow charging better. I leave it unchecked unless I want to charge it faster which happens maybe once a month for me. I charge it in the evening and usually have no problem getting through the day. I usually have a portable power pack with me just in case.
