Cyanogenmod for Axon 7 mini? - ZTE Axon 7 Mini Questions & Answers

I saw there's an unofficial Cyanogenmod rom out for the Axon 7 and was wondering if there if one available for the Mini (or if the Axon 7 version will work on the Mini)?

No and no. First we need a bootloader unlock to install custom roms. Till now ZTE doesn't offer a bootloader unlock for the axon 7 mini.

I am also very interested in this and hope that soon there will be something

There is a new tool for the Axon7. Mainly for backup and writing the recovery and boot partition.
There might be some hope for the mini.
Read what I wrote about it in the thread and try the "read" feature.

That sounds so great. I will try that at the weekend. Thank you for the information @celoxocis .

Let us know how t goes. I'm curious about if you at least read the boot and recovery using the tool.
It would mean the programmer was signed with the same key as for the Axon 7. I kinda doubt it because of the different SoC but you never know.

I'm on b21 and activated developer options for the first time, you can unlock the bootloader with a toggle of a switch, so maybe hope for a custom ROM?

Unfortunately that switch doesn't work. (At least on b12 I haven't tried b21 yet) I asked ZTE and they said that it was left over from their Chinese version of their ROM, and that they aren't "allowed" to have it work on the US model.

fallen00sniper the option in the setting doesnt allow you to root the device, it is simply for ADB (commands through usb port) at this current time I have not seen any post on XDA or else where about anyone who has successfully rooted or unlocked the Mini yet. XDA would definitely be the best place to keep an eye out on that though.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7-mini
Nevermind, they said it doesn't do anything after saying it does.

Has no one tried the above mentioned tool?
Like said it can't hurt as long as you use the "read only" commands.

Is this root method not legit?
http://rootoreviews.com/root-ZTE-Axon-7-mini-install-twrp-custom-recovery

No it's not. It already fails at step 1. Downloading TWRP. There ist no TWRP for the Axon 7 mini.

Hello, ¿Any news about rooting this terminal?
Thanks

Hello,I asked ZTE about unlockoing the bootloader or rooting the terminal and this is what they answered me (google made translation):
Good afternoon,
In response to your request we will advise you that in order to enjoy the manufacturer's official warranty we must cover critical configuration options that can be modified and lead to a malfunction of the terminal.
ZTE does not guarantee the correct functioning of your terminal if you unlock bootloader; Task that we discourage. In fact, should such an unlocking be detected, our official guarantee would be invalid.
Greetings,
No hope for us at the moment.

You'll get hope if I'm able to get my hands on one. For now, you all will have to wait. Just don't give up on it if you're looking for custom Roms. It should get the same treatment as the Axon 7.

That doesn't make any sense. Why wouldn't it be "allowed" I came to this section of XDA to research which phone to buy, I guess I won't be "allowed" to buy this model, since the bootloader can't be unlocked. I know I maybe in the minority, but I still vote with my wallet. Moving along I guess....

I ended up returning my Axon 7 Mini after it had other issues (The speaker wasn't working with media audio) and got a Sony Xperia XZ and I love it, no regrets.

I'm shopping around for a new phone right now actually. First thing I always do when I find one that I seem interested in, is come here search and see can the bootloader be unlocked, what kernels are available, ROMs etc. Basically what kind of community support is behind the device. This is a large part of my decision to buy a phone. ROMs and kernels don't have be available right away, but if it's locked, support tends be lacking compared to other devices, so I tend to move along.
Again I'm sure I'm a minority, but if I want to change something, I want to be able to.

I want to point out that in the developer settings there is a tic box for "Enable OEM Unlock" that needs to be checked before you can run the command.

Getting mine today as well. I've always OEM unlocked immediately and rooted used SuperSU on all my Nexus devices. However, on the latest L Preview for Nexus 5 and 7 Chainfire said you had to install a custom kernel to obtain root due to SELinux changes. Since I'm loathe to run a custom kernel on a new chipset I'm thinking of staying locked for the foreseeable future. Frankly ruins the Android "make it your own" ethos I've ALWAYS valued, but I just ain't gonna put up with tons of growing pains while all this is worked out.....

This. I always unlock first thing if I have any intentions on doing it at all. Simply because I don't want to lose my data later on. Unlocking is easy and took me 2 minutes on my nexus 9. No reason not to.

Discussing that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-9/help/unlocking-bootloader-rooting-n9-void-t2931784
By from HTC and warranty may be affected.
By from Play, and I think warranty is OK.
I'm considering returning mine since I'm underwhelmed for $400, and I'll just relock it and return to stock first.

I think regarding HTC, it depends on what's affected. I don't think that they will deny you a hardware warranty just because you unlocked the bootloader and/or rooted. Unlocking the bootloader is a safe process sanctioned by HTC themselves. Well, on HTC devices anyway. Nexus won't require HTCdev unlock.
They really can't even tell that you rooted or what you've done if you return to stock. All they know is that you unlocked the bootloader at some point. If the phone legitimately malfunctions, they won't deny you a repair/replacement just because you unlocked.
The first videos are now uploaded, hope you enjoy them. Everytime a new cusom rom is released ill upload a videos running the rom. Ill be testing video, sound, webbrowsing, maps, play store and custom setting(if the rom provides them)

Looking to buy Verizon HTC 10, but had a few questions (Root? Bootloader unlock?)

I was browsing the threads here and it seems the verizon htc 10 can be rooted, s-off, and bootloader unlocked via the Sunshine program. However, can I do it myself or do I have to mail the phone to someone?
Also, does the device have to have a certain build # to be able to root, soff, and unlocked? As I will ask the person I am selling what build they are using if so.
Thank you!
Hi,
I just got this phone yesterday and just went through this process. Upon immediately getting home from Verizon, I ran sunshine and it worked right away. I believe my firmware was something low like 1.19 or so. From what it sounds like though is that sunshine will work at even more recent firmware versions. Sunshine is just an app you can run yourself. All you have to do is enter your credit card and it will run. Hope this little bit of info helps.
Sunshine will work until Android N.
Verizon won't update us again til N
Pulled same crap with M9.

Opt for s-off locked. No need to do unlocked.

Just to reinforce what others have said, the phone can be rooted with any current Verizon firmware versions, and you will be required to run Sunshine for S-Off/Locked status. As has been said Sunshine is a breeze to use and the developers certainly deserve the mandatory donation, lol. Though the carriers were quick to lose interest in the 10 I've been very happy with the purchase all around, I would definitely recommend it as a daily driver that's fairly safe to tinker with (due to s-off)!
Yes, you can do it by yourself but I haven't tried it yet. It is a kinda long procedure and in between the process if you press the wrong key or did something wrong then you end up with bricking your phone. Rest of all you can read here :- http://www.tekpirates.com/verizon-htc-10-unlock-bootloader-root-system-gain-s-off-install-cwm-twrp-recovery/.

Rooting help

Have people been able to successfully root their Mediapads? I can't find any reliable/stable methods for TWRP or similar. The only solution at the moment is the one that greatslon created; no one/very few have confirmed that this works. Are there any stock firmwares/recoveries available yet either?
I followed the instructions given in the other thread. It was not a 1-click straight path, but it eventually worked just great and my M3 is rooted since a couple of months now, it works like a charm and it's super stable.

I'm French, bought it in France from a french dealer.
It does not look to be a french-specific model though, I would rather say "European model" as the included documentation comes in different EU languages.
In case that's relevant info my model is BTV-DL09 and build # is BTV-DL09C100B003
And from instructions given here, my OEMINFO is:
Vendor= hw
Country= eu
I'm located in the US (Atl) and we only have the WiFi only tablet here.
Model# BTV-W09
Build# BTV-W09C128B002
OEMINFO - ? Currently I can't boot TWRP or root so I can't retrieve it.
I do appreciate you sharing your info.

I'm in the same boat as you man. I posted in the greatslon thread that it didn't work for me and the OP nor anyone else cared to reply. I too have the US wifi only variant so maybe that's the reason why. As of right now I'm stuck using the stock device with just the bootloader unlocked.
I don't know why the hell this device isn't more popular it has stupid good specs and build quality for its sub $300 price. And an unlockable bootloader. You'd figure the dev community of the nexus 7 would be all over it.

There is one real thread with a mish-mash of different model numbers. I am sceptical to trust that one home-made/freelance custom recovery will be the solution for everyone. I appreciate all the work that has been put in, but without more evidence that it will work, I'm staying clear. It's a shame as this tablet looks and feels great; it just needs the freedom of root. Unfortunately, as the rest of the world moves onto Nougat, an unrooted Huawei tablet running Marshmallow becomes less appealing. Lets hope our devices don't die too early.
Model: BTV-W09
Build: BTV-W09C100B003
Greatslon modded version of TWRP works fine with the US variant of the MediaPad M3. After I gave up trying to simply boot into it rather than flash it over my stock recovery I've not had any problems. If it was bricking device's you would see numerous complaints in his thread. After it was discovered that there was a difference between tablets depending where you purchased it he corrected for it.

I can't tell for sure, but I would say it should be compatible. The product itself didn't change on Oneplus Store after Oneplus 5 launch; that should be an indicator for compatibility accross versions. Is there someone here who can confirm that (upgraded from 3 or 3t)?

I'm planning on unblocking the bootloader when I get the phone. If I wanted to relock the bootloader at a later stage, is this possible and will it go back to "locked" or "relocked" type status, or would you be able to tell it was ever unlocked?
Just curious if this will have implications to DM Verity and android pay working in the future if I ever wanted to go back to pure stock without root and have those things work.

Yes you can lock the bootloader later on via fastboot to locked status, no implications with DM verity if you flash the no verity zip.
You can go back to stock anytime you want
Just flash the latest stock rom and recovery and lock the bootloader to go back to stock.

I did it and downloaded the files but somehow my windows pc still does not recognize my oneplus... whatever after I booted my Kali(Linux) system few minutes ago everything worked well
If I buy the OP 5, I hope to use it for 3 years, therefore:
How long will software & security updates be provided for OOS with regards to the OP 5 ?
Can I expect 2 years and then in the third year be advised to flash a custom rom (I'm sure there will be plenty).
USB Audio
Just got the phone today only to discover that it USB audio doesn't work out of the box. Had USB audio working fine on the OPO but I can't seem to find a way of getting it to work in my car.
I've ran through all of the options and even rooted it to try and mess with a couple of .xml files but still nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

I've heard that a device teardown revealed that they are still using the same dash charge part in the OP5 as in the OP3(T).
I guess that won't be a problem.

Hey guys, I want to root and probably even flash a custom rom on the OP5. But I had to learn the hard way that flashing a custom rom can damage the device hardware.
I've got my damaged Galaxy Note 4 (probably a broken motherboard according to some xda users) working now except some shut downs/ freezes thanks to a bit of practice that I've made in the last four months.
What could I do to not end up with a device with broken hardware cause of custom Roms? OP clearly says on their warranty page that rooting doesn't void the warranty but damaged hardware does.
Thanks in advance.

The OP5 is the fastest selling phone from OP according to a tweet from themselves. And the OP3(T) is still in the top ten of most popular xda threads.
We should be able to get a proper custom rom soon and good support for a minimum of three years is what I'd expect to happen for such a device.
Does anyone has full signed zip for oxygen os??

I don't believe it has been released. The phone has general launch on the 27th so I presume that's when they will make this stuff available.
I have uploaded a TWRP backup of my system and boot though If you need that? Check the other questions and answers topic for 4.5.1 backup needed.
Sent from my OnePlus5 using XDA Labs
Thanks for the offer right now i dont really need it but is nice to have oxygen os since what i have is chinese version which i already install playstore using google installer

If I buy the OP 5, I hope to use it for 3 years, therefore:
How long will software & security updates be provided for OOS with regards to the OP 5 ?
Can I expect 2 years and then in the third year be advised to flash a custom rom (I'm sure there will be plenty).

I'm still getting good community support for my opo. Seriously, I don't have a reason to update to op5.

How long did you use Stock (I'm guessing at that time it was CyanogenMod, as OOS didn't exist), before moving onto the custom rom scene ?
Its good to know your OPO is still serving you well also

A month or something. I was frustrated with the bloat wares of Cyanogen from COS12. So I moved to official cm12. After a month Sultan dropped his cm12.1. From there on wards I was using Sultan's Builds. His ROM is rock solid, more stable than stock! For me community builds are way better than what OEMs giving us. I never tried OOS BTW

Well when you do eventually upgrade from the OPO to I'm guessing another OnePlus smartphone in the future, enjoy the massive spec increase and i'm sure Sultan's roms will be there also for you to enjoy.

Frendly reminder to unlock your bootloader

If you intend to do basically anything with this phone I highly recommend unlocking the bootloader and leaving it in that state always. Especially do this before accepting any kind of beta ota because you might not be able to roll back without bootloader unlock. Do not for any reason try locking your bootloader again unless a rom you are using specifically says to do so like Copperhead or you may end up semi or hardbricking your device. Having and leaving your bootloader unlocked also makes it possible to recover from almost every single possible problem that can arise with the device on a firmware/os level.
Yes,
Recent Non Beta OTA Update also Ruined the Phone. Since the Device was Locked it turned into a Useless Brick Now.
So its Strongly advisable to keep the Developer Mode on with USB Debugging ON and Allow Boot-loader Unlock Option ON at-least.

This is mostly the problem I'm referring to as I've now seen like 5 people who are stuck with a broken ota or are stuck on beta with no way off

Doesn't matter where you are, but there is a post or two on here talking about a guy who can unlock it using remote access and installing flexihub on your machine. If you wanna try it make a windows VM real quick and wipe ur phone after you back everything up that you need
Edit: double post

A misparsed or improperly fetched OTA can semi-brick a phone yes. It can also happen when the manufacturer or carrier push a broken update. Both scenarios have happened many times with lg and Samsung phones for example
