Fire HD8 (Gen 6) always buffer and no HD? - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Just received the HD8 Gen 6 and surprised that I keep getting buffering and lag in Amazon video, and in Netflix I barely get HD, only short bursts. This does not happen on my XPS 13 or the Nexus 7 I had. I don't have an AC router but still, the other devices have no issue.
I ran speedtest and am getting 14mb/s
Anyone else have this issue and no of solutions?
thanks

Sounds like bluetooth affects wifi and is pretty common. Will using AC router help?

WiFi Drops out

Hey,
Ive just bought a acer Iconia a500 recently, every thing seemed ok until recently. Owned it about a week or so.
Basically my router (netgear wnr2000) is in my room upstairs, if im in that room everything is fine browsing etc.
However the minute I move away from that room the signal strength drops down, which is normal. But if i go downstairs to the living room, the connection is unusable, then it drops out takes a few mins to reconnect etc.
I've never had any problems before with any wireless devices ive got in that room, the xbox is in there currently and plays on Live fine etc. Ive got 3 laptops, HTC Desire, Samsung Galaxy S, 2 iPod touches etc so I dont believe its a router issue.
Ive had a play round with the router settings just incase, put on unused channels etc
Anyone else had any similar experiences? Anyone found any fixes?
Thank
yes take it back. Mine did this out of the box on the living room i dint had any wifi i had to be near the router in my room to have any internet. Just to be sure of things get wifi eye or something like that from the market and watch the signal if it goes un and down like crazy its the A500
My first A500 did that and the second was a wake-up from sleep too much problem. The A500 is one update away from awesome, but would be nice if they patch the current issues now, rather than wait for a 3.1 update.
Some folks are not having any issues, which makes me wonder if bad batches.....
Maybe like the glue issues with iPad 2 Rush. Maybe it is bad batches...

Definitely makes more sense than a general firmware issue now, since more folks would be hollering if a general issue for all devices.

YouTube buffering a lot

Hi,
I noticed on my Nexus 7, YouTube app buffering quite often.
Compared to Galaxy Nexus, on the same network.
Is there anything to improve this?
I am running stock rom and rooted.

I noticed this on both my gnex and N7... dunno why I have a 30Mb line... -_-

i think its a youtube thing. ive noticed on my evo lte, nexus 7, and my ridiculously over powered computer all on a 25meg line that it will only load so far ahead on videos and sometimes end up buffering. up until a month ago ish i would click a video and the whole thing would be loaded in a few seconds
My YouTube app gets stuck buffering constantly. I tried dumping and reinstalling but get the same problem. I remedied it by using a browser. No lag or buffering.

Weird, I don't have any issue with the Youtube app on stock 4.1.2 playing HD Big Buck Bunny in Landscape. How often it stop to buffer, for those with the issue?
The new youtube app suck. When you browsing in portrait mode, you only get one single column for (info, related and comments). The old youtube app 4.0.23 have 3 different tabs for each one.

It stops for good until you click the hd button. It will then start back up in standard definition and freeze again down the line somewhere. I thought I had it fixed by just using the browser but that freezes as well. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason why because sometimes vids play flawlessly.

I got this too..doesn't matter which video..it all buffer! It seems like the video download is much slower n the YouTube app. I have tried different wireless router s and even set a test one where my N7 is the ONLY device on the network. I have 18mbps line.
Got to the point I stopped using the N7 and just used my Note. Strangely, this issue doesn't happen with my old iPad 2.
I have a strong belief (in my case at least) that the N7 is picky about certain routers... At home my YouTube app is an absolute dog, unusable anytime - thus resorting to the Chrome browser which is ok for non-HD. However, at school and a number of friends houses, it works like a charm. So I've come to that conclusion of something to do with the router compatibility...

If it's the router why do all the other streaming apps work fine? It's YouTube.

Yes, its the YouTube app, all right. Netflix, Hulu, Crackle and others don't buffer.
Just came to say that YouTube on the N7 sucks balls.
YouTube buffers way to much

Necro-bump
Just wanted to necro-bump this and say that it's still a problem (despite tons of app updates since this thread).
Original nexus 7 constantly buffers via the youtube app if HD is selected. If I turn off HD, the video doesn't buffer nearly as much. My network is not the problem; I can watch HD videos on youtube with my computer just fine (no buffering issues). Even SD videos in the youtube app buffer, whereas if I load youtube.com in chrome on my N7 and watch the exact same video in SD as what I was trying to watch in the app, there is zero pausing to buffer (and I can see the buffer bar constantly grows).
I am also of the idea that the tablet is sensitive to router types; I don't know why this is, but wifi reliability on my nexus 7 went down at home after I flashed our router to dd-wrt firmware (all other devices on our home network have been the same). Haven't investigated this further. All router settings seem to be identical as before the flash.
Why I can stream HD videos on netflix (and other apps) just fine on my N7, but youtube chokes...it's a youtube thing--either the app, or something on their backend. It's frustrating as hell, and despite the nice form-factor, I'm regretting getting this nexus 7 as much as I regretted trying the KFHD...lol.

necro-bump as well i guess.
Still a problem running 4.4.4 on my rooted nexus 7 (2012) and latest youtube app. The thing is like 2 days old and I have no other apps installed yet.
The weird thing is that rebooting the device "fixes" the problem for like 5 minutes. After those 5 minutes it goes into super slow mode again and starts buffering at like 1mbit or less for 720p quality. Most of the time it plays 2s, buffers 5s, plays another 2s, buffers 5s again, plays another till I feel the urge to just smash the table into the ground.
It's like it forgets to buffer while playing the content it has already buffered.
Incredibly aggrevating considering this problem is almost 2 years old now and there are multiple google group posts about it, some with 100s of entries. All the replies from google are "alright, thanks for the feedback, we passed it on" or "thanks for the feedback, there is a new update, tell us if it is fixed"...

Youtube is painfully slow for me as well in HD. I learned that watching the video in the Chrome browser actually works and it does not buffer. Try a speedtest in the closest town near you to ensure that it is not a hardware issue.

bigger issue is hulu honestly. between commericals it has buffered to all out stopping and blaming my wireless when my GF's ipad is fine.
Im starting to worry the signal strength on the nexus7 isnt as strong as even my old kindle or mine is defective.
Might be your ROM, I remember one old one on my phone would only play low quality for some reason

[Q] How well does Moonlight run? (Game streaming)

So for anyone that doesn't know this is Moonlight https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.limelight&hl=en (which used to be called Limelight).
Anyways Moonlight works off the Nvidia streaming service but is available to download off any Android device. I'm wondering if anyone has sideloaded it to their Nexus Player and if they have how does it run?
The Intel CPU and 1GB of RAM seem a bit on the low side compared to the Razer Forge and the NVidia Shield specs but if it runs smoothly I'm thinking of getting the Nexus Player instead of waiting.
Cheers
I can't speak for the Nexus Player as I didn't know about this app while I had it, but I do have the Razer Forge and it works pretty well. Though I'd assume you'll have a better experience than I will if your internet upload and download speed is pretty good.

Yeah well I'm from Australia and the only way to get the Razer Forge atm is to ship it from the US while i can get the NP from a local store. Im assuming you're using Moonlight because Razer Cortex isn't out yet? Hmmm maybe I'll just try it...
For me it works beautifully. It used to be laggy, but the latest versions of either Moonligth or Nvidia experience have fixed the issue. It works smoothly at 1080p 60fps. I have my computer conected to my router via ethernet, and the Nexus player with 802.11ac

I ended up getting the Nexus player and trying it out. Maybe my wifi connection isn't strong enough but in general it was too laggy to play Razer Forge is having a TON of issues aswell so I might have to wait for the Nvidia Shield or something
i tested it out last weekend and was playing in 1080p 60fps over 802.11ac wifi without any lag
was getting occasional frame skips which i assume was related to the streaming setup, but i was testing using a new game i got that played well with a controller so i don't know how this game runs normally and can't be certain.
I do have a nexus player with the moonlight plus i have the Nvidia shield tablet and trust me my Nexus player stream better than my Shield, my Shield does fine with stream from the Grid stream almost with no LAG at all but when I stream from my PC the LAG is too much I don't know why, but if I used the Nexus Player with the Moonlight stream almost the same as the Shield playing the Grid stream ...
I have totally high hopes for this. Best Buy has the Nexus Player on sale for $69 and the controller for $40. I had $15 in rewards points and a 10% coupon that I used on the Nexus Player, so I ordered both. Got them for $93 shipped to my door. Half the price of the Shield TV and $60 less than the Razer, so I figure at worst I'll have to return it for one of the others if it doesn't work well. It'll work well, though. I have a Time Capsule 802.11ac, my PC is connected via Ethernet, and my 5GHz 802.11ac network is supported in a 2x2 MIMO config on the Nexus Player. It'll be about 10 feet from the router. Supposed to be here Thursday so I'll come back and let you know how it does.

How does it run?
The Nexus Player is about 20 feet from the router, and the signal is going through three walls. With my setup it runs really well at 720p60. I don't really feel like it's dropping any frames. I also turned up the bitrate to 15mbps, and it made a big difference in the image quality and it was still very smooth. On 1080p60, it dropped enough frames that I could feel it but it was still quite playable. I was not really able to turn the bitrate up.
I also tried Kinoconsole, and it was not nearly as good. Zero configuration options, 1080p all the way, stuck at 30fps. Also requires extra software on the PC, which I didn't really want anyway. Wasn't going to pay for the app with the promise of better video quality unless I could see it, so I quit at that.
The Nexus Player's controller does not have a start button, so if your game needs to use the start button you're out of luck. I ended up plugging a wireless 360 controller into the PC directly and controlled the game that way. I didn't have an OTG cable laying around to try it on the Player itself.
The Nexus Player ended up going back to Best Buy, though. Using the Asus controller in emulators and whatnot, Bluetooth would freeze after about 15 minutes. Happened repeatedly probably 8 or 10 times over a 2 day span. I factory reset the device and it continued. Also, the Asus controller's d-pad is terrible, but that is neither here nor there. Since I wasn't sure if it was the device's fault or the controller's I just returned the whole setup. I do know that not even the Player's bundled remote would work once Bluetooth quit, and the controller lights would flash like it was trying to connect again. I have a feeling it was the player.
I ordered a Shield. It should be here tomorrow. The controller should be much better, and I'm hoping nVidia has a workaround for the Start button. If not I'll stick with my 360 controller for PC games. Now I'm getting off topic.
Bottom line: if you're not having other issues with the Nexus Player, you might as well grab Moonlight.
I had a shield tablet shipped in from the US and also have NBN (100Mbps DL / 40Mbps UL). I play with gamestream as I can push the detail to "Max 25Mbps" and have it set to [email protected] via my 5Ghz Wifi on ASUS RT-AC68U Router. No problems (Apart from the creeping in input lag)
Moonlight hates either my router, internet or PC as even if I choose [email protected] and detail to 4Mbps within 1-2 seconds of starting a stream, the screen gets pixelated and Moonight spits out a "Your network is not good enough to stream this, lower your resolution and detail and try again.
Does my tablet need to be hooked up to ethernet for Moonlight to work? Or do I need to move to america where the download and upload speeds are more like 1,000Mbps

UHD section on Amazon disappears after few seconds in Germany. Any Ideas?

Hello everybody,
I bought the SHIELD 2017 one week ago and am still not able to stream UHD on the included Amazon-App. I am living in Germany and am having a German Amazon account.
The strange part is, that the UHD section in the App is visible for a few seconds after the App starts, but when I start moving through the menu it disappears.
As if it would check for something and then reload the menu structure. I already wiped the app data and logged in again, but the behavior stays.
Of course I am a Prime customer and have no troubles to use UHD on a Smart-App of my LG UHD screen, although it is a very slow and sluggish experience.
My SHIELD is not modified in any way. Just HumbleBundle app was sideloaded.
Has anyone noticed something like that happen to them? Any ideas what might cause it?
The whole point of my SHIELD purchase was to have UHD streaming, duh...
Well I haven't got an Amazon Prime Sub, but I do have an Amazon account, and a 4k TV. The only oddity I ran into after yesterday's Update was that everything was locked into a FastForward Mode. Apparently a known Bug on non-Fire Devices. (e.g. the PS4), the trick it seemed was to do a hard reset. (i.e. Cycling the Power), afterwards it was working just fine.
Just outta interest how fast is your Line? UHD likely, wants a real phat Pipe even my 5Mb Down 1Mb Up just feels just capable of it, with the intermittent drop, or skip. So if you had anything slower than that, it could explain why it's disappearing for you.
I've 64 Mbit down and 5 Mbit up. Enough for everything I was throwing at it. Streaming games with Nvidia Now in full quality runs very smooth, even when I am using the connection simultaneously for other things.
So I talked to the German Amazon support...
The friendly lady assured me that Amazon Germany is not streaming UHD on other Devices than:
Amazon Fire TV (2. Gen)
Samsung Ultra HD-TVs starting from 2014
Sony Ultra HD-TVs starting from 2014
LG Ultra HD-TVs starting from 2014
Sadly German Amazon is slow to implement features of its bigger brother on the other side.
Am I the only one in Germany who bought it?
