Guide: (17-06-09) Flash Global/China ROM, Root, gapps, Xposed, TWRP + Nougat - Xiaomi Mi MIX Guides, News, & Discussion

WARNING: The MIX is still my device, but it runs so stable on Epic ROM Nougat + Xposed Nougat, that I don't need to tinker with it anymore, so I don't have the time to update this thread.
Some great people made posts about TWRP, root and gapps as well as great discussions for how to install particular ROMs.
I try to compile all informations for newcomers into a guide here.
Feel free to discuss. I will update the first posts to reflect any updates and incorporate all your suggestions if possible.

2.0 How to start? (Do I have vendor ROM & how to remove vendor ROM)
First, check if you have a vendor ROM, which is bad. Security issues, malware and no updates are just three reasons to move away from a vendor ROM.
How to check, if you have a vendor ROM:
Go to Settings > About phone
Check MIUI version
If any of the following conditions are true, you have a vendor ROM:
If it says "global" and after one month there is no update available in the updater app
If it says "global" and the version number has not the format: V8.0.4.0 LHOCNDG, (the numbers can vary, and the letters in the end can vary). Vendor ROMs often have one additional number, in total 5 numbers, which then is a vendor ROM
If it says "developer" or "beta" and after one week there is no update available in the updater app
Additionally you can read this very good article, on how to spot Vendor ROMs: http://miui.my/miui-identify-rom/
To get away from the Vendor ROM, you can either Unlock and flash another ROM (see 3.0), or you flash the official Global Stable ROM which can be flashed without unlocking the bootloader. (See 3.2 and ignore the requirement for the unlocked bootloader)
3.0 How to unlock the bootloader
Create Xiaomi Account, if you don't have one
Start the phone, login with Xiaomi account
Apply for bootloader unlock, and wait for the confirmation SMS to enter
On the unlock page, download the unlocker app and install it
After your request for unlock has been granted (waiting time usually a few hours to a few days), open the unlock app to unlock the bootloader
3.1 How to flash xiaomi.eu unofficial Global, root with SuperSu, TWRP and Xposed framework
Download:
install latest minimal fastboot and adb
latest xiaomi.eu unofficial Global weekly
twrp-3.0.2-0-rc2-eu-lithium.img
latest SuperSu
xposed-v87-sdk23-arm64-MIUI-edition-by-SolarWarez-20161126.zip
XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4_3.apk
You need to be on an unlocked bootloader, see 2.0
Boot your phone into fastboot mode (Turn off phone, then press Power button + Volume Down button at the same time)
Connect your phone to your computer, make sure you have minimal fastboot and adb installed and open it via start menu -> Minimal fastboot and adb. A console window appears
type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery [COLOR="Blue"]C:\path\to\your\[/COLOR]twrp-3.0.2-0-rc2-eu-lithium.img
change the colored path to the correct path to your twrp file (not the EU one) and press enter
type
Code:
fastboot boot [COLOR="Blue"]C:\path\to\your\[/COLOR]twrp-3.0.2-0-rc2-eu-lithium.img
change the colored path to the correct path to your twrp file and press enter
the device should boot into TWRP
copy the latest xiaomi.eu rom zip to your device (which you can see in your computer's explorer as a device)
in TWRP install the xiaomi.eu rom zip
copy the SR5-SuperSU-v2.78-SR5-20161130091551.zip to your device and install it too, if you don't want Root, ignore this step but install no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.0.zip in TWRP and don't continue the steps below
copy xposed-v87-sdk23-arm64-MIUI-edition-by-SolarWarez-20161126.zip to your phone and install it in TWRP
boot your phone up, copy XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4_3.apk to your phone and install it
3.2 How to flash Xiaomi official Chinese Stable or Global Stable, root with SuperSu, TWRP, google apps and Xposed framework
Download:
Mi Flash 2016.08.30.0
Fastboot China Stable ROM or Fastboot Global Stable ROM (Thread)
twrp-3.0.2-0-rc2-eu-lithium.img
SuperSu
ARM64 > 6.0 > nano > open_gapps-arm64-6.0-nano-20161130.zip (From http://opengapps.org/)
xposed-v87-sdk23-arm64-MIUI-edition-by-SolarWarez-20161126.zip
XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4_3.apk
You need to be on an unlocked bootloader (see 3.0)
Download and unpack Fastboot China Stable ROM or Global Stable ROM
Download and install Mi Flash 2016.08.30.0
Paste full path to unpacked Fastboot ROM into the text box of Mi Flash
Select "clean all" at the bottom of Mi Flash explicitly (even if it's already selected)
Click flash
Boot up phone, enter Xiaomi account, copy TWRP, SR5-SuperSU-v2.78-SR5-20161130091551.zip, open_gapps-arm64-6.0-nano-20161130.zip and xposed-v87-sdk23-arm64-MIUI-edition-by-SolarWarez-20161126.zip to phone
Flash TWRP with fastboot
Install SuperSu in TWRP, if you don't want Root, ignore this step but install no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.0.zip in TWRP
Install gapps in TWRP
Install Xposed in TWRP, if you don't want xposed, ignore this step
Boot system
Login to your Google account
Install XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4_3.apk, ignore this step if you don't want root and xposed
4.1 MIUI 8 xposed Tweaks
If you installed Xposed framework, there are 3 tools you can choose from, to tweak MIUI 8:
xMIUI by solarwarez
MIUI 8 Tweaks by hartec
exMIUI by Ty3uK
Some features of them:
change miui launcher row/column count
change icon size
use AOSP notification icons
allow widgets on lockscreen
center clock & signal bar on the left (like iOS)
hide battery icon, only show percentage
etc.
4.2 Disable MIUI battery saver and fix missed/late notifications
Settings > Battery & performance > Manage apps' battery usage > Off
Settings > Battery & performance > Power > Battery saver > Battery saver toggle off
Settings > Notifications & status bar > App notifications > select apps that can show floating notifications and notifications on lockscreen
Security > Permissions > Auto start > select apps that should get notifications after reboot
Security > Settings icon > Cleaner settings > Clean automatically > turn off / Update automatically > turn off
4.3 Better camera
The stock camera suffers from repeated auto focus while recording video, as well as strong image post-processing. The stock camera automatically changes to high ISO mode, on low light, which is leading to noise in the image.
An often suggested alternative to the stock camera app is Snap Camera.
4.4 Hide navigation bar
Settings > Additional settings > Buttons
Check:
Screen buttons can be hidden
Automatically disable navigation buttons
4.5 Change DPI
Changing the DPI on the Mi Mix on MIUI 8 without corrupting the Icons or having problems?
Confirmed resolutions:
MIUI default 440
Safe 370
Native resolution of the display 360.66
Lowest confirmed working 320
If you are rooted, simply install a build.props editor from Google Play and change the value of
Code:
persist.miui.density_v2 = xxx
to any DPI for xxx, and then reboot your device.
Remember to keep a copy of your original build.props file, in case anything goes wrong! If you're in a boot loop, just use the file manager in TWRP to copy your backed up build.props file over the modified one.
There may be problems with the MIUI weather app icon and MIUI calendar icon, which will be both invisible in the MIUI launcher depending on the DPI.

Hi.
It's looks very big and complicates jobs.

Thanks for the helpful guide and your comments on the other thread. I have a couple of noob follow-up questions. I managed to install TWRP and EU Rom (not root) and all works fine. Moving forward:
1. Can I root anytime now without wiping anything?
2. How do I update to the next version of EU when it is released? Do I just install via TWRP as before and will this erase anything? I don't want to have to re-install and re-setup everything.
I know these are basic questions but the number of guides out there with conflicting advice is overwhelming.
Thanks

Why do you provide gapps when in xiaomi.eu all is included?

Because the first guide written is for the Chinese Stable ROM, which doesn't contain gapps.

1. Yes, just flash SuperSu in TWRP without wiping
2. When I was on xiaomi.eu ROM with my Mi Note Pro, I had to download the full xiaomi.eu ROM and flash it in TWRP. No data will be lost.

Thanks for doing this and here is the latest EU weekly rom

I flashed this & my screen is unresponsive in TWRP.
IDK if anything in the update caused a mismatch, a la Global ROM & EU TWRP.
Also lost root, but the phone is still working otherwise.
Calling it a day, work beckons in a few hours.
If you have any suggestions, I'll check back in later today.

I flashed the fastboot China Dev ROM through XiaoMiFlash, installed gapps with google installer v2.0 apk and installed/updated google play services from apkmirror.
I want to add root, so I booted to fastboot, opened a console on my computer and typed
fastboot boot C:\twrp.img
to temporarily boot into TWRP.
TWRP touchscreen is unresponsive.
I flashed the original twrp of course (for dev and stable China ROM). The EU-TWRP is for xiaomi.eu ROM and not for Chinese Dev/Stable.
So I don't know what to do

I was already on the EU ROM with the corresponding EU TWRP, so, IDK.
Less a solution, I'll check back in the TWRP/root thread, don't wanna hijack the OP's thread/topic.

Sorry for the noob question, but I've unlocked my Mix, but when trying to go from the Chinese Stable Rom to The Eu Rom i get a Can't Verify Update, how do I get past this?

I applied for my unlock code is the code generic since they didn't ask what device I had. Just my number name and reason

Once they give access to unlock, they will text you a link with which you download an app sign in, put phone in Factbook mode, and then follow the instructions in the app, was pretty painless.

Do you try to flash the Eu ROM zip through the MiRecovery?
You need to boot into fastboot, then follow the thread to flash the TWRP EU recovery. Then you need to flash the Stable ROM through TWRP EU.

Unlocking is tied to you Xiaomi Account. You can unlock your device, if you logged in with your Xiaomi account onto your device, if your account has unlocking privileges. Because my account had Unlocking privileges since 1 year, I could unlock my phone instantly after logging into my Xiaomi account, without applying for any Unlock code again.

This part is confusing, I'm currently on miui v8.0.10.0 stable version. Do i need to be on a different rom? if so where i can i find the fastboot version. Any help on this would be helpful.

Hello guys,
This is my first guide and it is focused on people who just bought their Redmi Note 3 (KENZO/KATE) and having problems with officially unlocking their bootloader. (stuck @ 50% like me)
If you don't want to wait on stock MiUi until you can officially unlock your bootloader (because you need to wait additional ~2 weeks after you received permission from Xiaomi until their servers updated) or you want that extra security layer with locked bootloader this guide is made for you!
Since official LineageOS 14.1 just released, i thought some of you guys are interested in this awesome, easy and safe method.
To save you time searching hours and hours through this forum i made this quick summery.
Downloads :
MiUi 8 Global Developer ROM 6.11.3: KENZO or KATE
ZCX TWRP (direct downloadlink: click here)
Mi Flash 6.8.30
Latest firmware (choose correct device)
[ROM][OFFICIAL][7.1.1][kenzo] LineageOS 14.1 by The_strix
Open GApps - ARM64 - Android 7.1
Instructions : (follow them carefully!)
Extract MiUi 8 Global Developer ROM and replace recovery.img (in images folder) with ZCX TWRP's recovery.img
Flash using Mi Flash (in EDL mode) and check clean_all
After finished flashing process unplug and press [volume up]+[power] until Mi logo shows up then release buttons and it boots to TWRP (change TWRP language from chinese to english: click here)
Reboot to system (if you get prompt: "Disable stock recovery replace now" > just swipe to allow disable)
Boot to MIUI and complete initial setup (important step - don't skip! first boot will take around 10 minutes)
-----------------------------------------------
Shutdown device and boot to TWRP again
(optinal) Backup every partition and safe this backup on an external device
Wipe > Advanced Wipe > check Dalvik / ART Cache, System, Data, Internal Storage, Cache > Swipe to Wipe
Flash Latest firmware, LineageOS 14.1 and GApps (ARM64, Android 7.1)
Reboot to system and you're DONE!!
updated method (works with newest MIUI version) :
There is a new updated method by kuan improved by @N.G. and @razr_96. Thanks for mentioning.
Advantages:
no need to download full MIUI fastboot rom
much faster method, only takes seconds to flash (instead of 4 minutes and you don't have to complete initial MIUI setup which also takes around 5 minutes)
this method is better if you want to stay on MIUI and just want to root
you can stay on your current MIUI version (even 7.1.19 which is currently the latest) and don't have to wipe your data
Disadvantages:
this doesn't clean everything, i would recommend to clean everything if you want to install a custom rom
you have to download a file i can not verify
Instructions : (follow them carefully!)
(optinal) Backup your current MIUI data (Settings > Additional settings > Backup & reset > Local backups > Back up) and copy it to an external media
Download and extract: Kenzo or Kate
(optinal) Replace included ZCX TWRP recovery.img (in images folder) with your preferred TWRP recovery.img
Flash using Mi Flash 20160401 (in EDL mode) and check flash all except data and storage (not clean_all like in the method mentioned above)
BE AWARE: This MiFlash version is different to the MiFlash version mentioned above! This version does only support 64 bit systems and you need atleast Windows 7!
After finished flashing process unplug and press [volume up]+[power] until Mi logo shows up then release buttons and it boots to TWRP (change TWRP language from chinese to english: click here)
Reboot to system

Troubleshooting :
[APP][ROOT][7.1.1]QuickSettings Flashlight fix for all nougat roms
If something goes wrong, start over again and follow my guide step by step.
This guide only works with MiUi 8 Global Developer ROM 6.11.3 or lower.
Put MIUI 8 Global Developer ROM in "C:\ROM" - MiFlash tends to have problems if there are any spaces in folder names.
If you flashed something wrong and have no simcard signal anymore or no IMEI look here for help: EFS Recovery Guide
If you didn't remove your passcode before you did a backuprestore using TWRP:
TWRP > Advanced > Filemanager > /data/system > delete locksettings.db
Issues with locked bootloader :
none
(advanced technique) Higher security with locked bootloader:
Thanks @LeoYL !
A little addition: If you want a even higher level of security, which is nobody except you can flash packages in recovery, you can create a recovery with limited functions and forced signature verification, with your own keys embedded in that recovery.
This is just like the original status of nearly all Android devices when they are shipped: only signed OTA update packages can be applied via recovery. Normally, the packages are signed by OEMs; however, you can become the "OEM" by creating your own private key, which is used during package signing.
Just follow these guides to create a recovery with your own keys. I use CM 13.0 recovery, since it only has basic recovery features, including installing a ZIP file, factory reset, and it has mandatory ZIP signature verification.
http://mjg59.dreamwidth.org/31765.html
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62796459&postcount=2
The reason why I don't use TWRP is that it allows update packages with any signature. Although you can enforce signature verification, it can also be switched off in TWRP settings.
Now you get a recovery which only accepts ZIP packages that are signed with your own private key. The only downside is you need to sign every package you want to flash each time. But this also means that if a stranger picks your lost phone up, they can't tamper your phone's OS. If the "reset protection" feature works with locked bootloader on our Redmi Note 3, the only distance between our phones' security and Google devices' is edl mode and encryption.
Wanna try other custom roms?
Just follow this guide and you can flash every other nougat customrom as well like:
[ROM]AOSIP 5.5 for Redmi Note 3(Kenzo)[OFFICIAL BUILDS]
[ROM][Nightlies][android-7.1.1_r6]ResurrectionRemix 5.8.0[OFFICIAL][VoLTE]
[ROM][OFFICIAL][Weekly][7.1.1_R13][Slim 7 For Kenzo]
[ROM] ► [7.1.1 ► N4F26M] ► [OTA][OMS][Goodix] ► Nitrogen OS

The guide you linked is not working for me, thats why i made this guide which works 100%.
I tried this with the Global developer ROM for my kenzo.
When I try to get into TWRP, the Mi logo flashes but nothing else happens.
When I let the MIUI ROM start up and try to get into the recovery again,
it only shows me to connect my device to the Mi PC Manager.
What am I doing wrong?

- EDL mode - check?
- remove usb cable after flash and press volume up+power button until mi logo shows up and then release buttons - check?
- are you sure you have kenzo version? did you download rom for kenzo? - check?
!! caution: the rom linked in this guide is only for kate version!!
thank you ! I've been trying the official route for 6 weeks, getting absolutely nowhere (even though I finally do have unlock permission).
this method worked like a charm, finally I'm off MIUI and running LineageOS

1. I guess, do I have to replace only the recovery.img or more? If only recovery.img, then yes!
2. Yes, otherwise MiFlash would give me an error instead of flashing the ROM
3. Yes, but it appears only for an blink of an eye and then disappears again, the phone screen then stays dark
4. Yes, the newest one. Maybe that's the problem?

Yes, that's the problem! This method only works until version 6.11.3.
You have to flash 6.11.3 (or earlier) to get TWRP and then you can flash what you want.
Good luck!
Excellent :good:
To boot into EDL
If you are lost with chinese language in TWRP, look at the first screenshot
And for Gapps take 64bits
Hi, I just got this ROM but when I plug the device in my computer it keeps connecting/disconnecting rapidly. Did I do something wrong?
Very helpful, but i would like to suggest people to use miunlocktool from windows 7-32 bit operating system. Miunlocktool perfectly works in windows 7 & don't stuck at 50%. Before unlock process, just "add oem unlocking device" from MIUI developer setting then start unlocking process..... Its really works for me & also others who followed these steps.

You don't think i've/we've tried everything? Official unlock works for you? Great! But it doesn't work for everyone... trust me.
Can we please stop to suggest to unlock officially with different guides? This guide is for people who don't want to or can't unlock officially.

I also said that million times to other people who suggest me different types of official method. When i success after trying couple of methods then i realized it is possible to unlock kate. I'm not saying that your post is not helpful, i saw many post like that, mostly in whirlpool forum. BTW, good luck with your tips :good:
Sure it is possible to unlock Kate officially but you have to wait for Xiaomi to get permission and wait for their servers to syncronize.
You have to wait up to 1 month (depending on your location and other things) until their servers confirms that you have permission to unlock (unable to verify thing). All these guides outside are working but it's a matter of time until they start working. That's why they didn't work for you in first place. :good:

You are using a really old MiFlash version, try updating to the version mentioned in this guide.
And rename your folder "Redmi note 3 pro" to "Redmi.note.3.pro" or "Redmi_note_3_pro".
MiFlash tends to have problem with spaces.

DC Unlocker is the only way to go as Huawei stopped releasing bootloader unlock codes since July 22, 2018.
I installed the Resurrection Remix and Lineage rom on my P10+ (VKY L29) device and both got me the same problem:
When i boot (the boot is successful), Google starts the first configuration. It asks me the language and the visual properties and then i press "next". The screen remains on "Just a second..." for about forever.
I tried format data before and after, tried to install several Treble roms... Everything took me to the same problem.
I tried also to re-install Gapps, but this took me to another problem: the Google First Configuration is totally black.
What should i do?

I tried rebooting about 10 times and he always did the same.
Fortunately I figured out how to resolve this hell:
The Google first configuration setup checks the integrity of the ramdisk Partition. I had a custom recovery so obviously the check was not satisfied.
The solution is to flash the stock recovery ramdisk partition (in my case i download The Official update of Huawei p10 Plus and extracted only the ramdisk image).
When i finished the configuration I completed every setup and then I reinstalled the custom recovery again.

If you have properly read the instructions in OpenKirin website, it was clearly stated there that all these ROMs must be installed wirh stock recovery to avoid other issues.

True, I've read the disclaimer, but if someone, like me, used to install ROMs with the same warning without any problem (like an AOSP rom on my previous phone, which I installed having the TWRP), maybe he/she would think that there is not so much to worry about.
However, I noticed that there isn't a real "guide" on internet about a workaround of the "Just a sec" problem, so I wrote that message also for who needs a help and does not know about the partition check.
I found a bug on the "display" menu.
When i select a theme (light, dark, or the black switch), the system theme doesn't change at all. Tried to reboot, clear cache and data of SystemUI, nothing changed.
I bypassed this theme issue with Substratum. Didn't get any bug/problem with Substratum.

If you use a normal Huawei EMUI system, there is a special treatment which use a special SuperSu zip file.
Also, you can use a Magisk version, always optimized for Huawei. I found the zip variant in a thread in the P10+ section.
If you have the Treble ROM, which is the main topic of the thread, I did this:
Ensured that there were no setups to do;
Re-flashed TWRP;
Installed the normal Magisk zip from TWRP.
Because is not a EMUI system anymore, you can easily install every mod or patch you wish.
Personal note: I tried install SuperSu with the zip, but the app said "binary occupied". Since it did like that before, with the EMUI system, I gave up and I installed Magisk.
Now it works like a charm.

I use the FromFutureRom version that is in the thread I linked before. I think is made especially for Huawei P10/P10+
My data partition is still encrypted.
In order to decrypt data you should format the so called "user data", which is the combination of /data and /sdcard. Don't have to say that you will lose everything on your internal archive, so be sure to backup everything. The external SD card will NOT be affected.
In the TWRP you can to this on the menu "format" -> "format data" -> write "yes" and format everything.

[ROM-sGSI] [ZUI 10.0]/[ZUI 5.0] From Z5 FOR Z2 Plus [Oreo]

What is this?
- sGSI of ZUI 10.0/ 5.0 from Lenovo Z5pro/Z5, based on Android 8.1.0, June 1,2018 security patch.
Since this was requested in some comments, I flashed it and found working for our device flawlessly, with some bugs.
Features?
-All features of ZUI 4 + Soft Charge, gestures, multi space ( dual apps ) etc. Split Screen is also available.
How to flash?
ZUI 10 :
1. Download the flashable zip from the links.
2. Boot to twrp, and wipe dalvik, cache, data, system and vendor.
3. Flash the zip.
4. Reboot.
ZUI 5:
Method 1 : (Recommended)
- 1. Download any treble based 8.1.x rom and ZUI5.0-sGSI.zip (link below).
[Please use MIUI 10 8.11.1 by Narshi Shukla as base ROM, as it seems it's Vendor is most compatible.]
2. Extract the zip in your storage. You will get three files ( two flashable zips and one folder "sGSI.....". [Folder name might differ, there will be only one folder, so no worries])
3. Boot into recovery and take a backup.
4. Clean flash treble based Oreo ROM that you downloaded.
5. From your twrp, use file manager to move " sGSI...." folder to backup folder of Twrp.
6. Mount system and vendor and wipe cache/delvik, data and system.
( Don't wipe firmware and Vendor )
7. Goto restore in your twrp and restore the system from "sGSI....." folder.
8. Flash the remaining two zips.
9. Flash magisk if needed.
10. Wipe cache/delvik and reboot. Done.
Method 2 : https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78389810&postcount=320
(You need treble based twrp, search if you don't already have).
After following all these steps, if your phone is stuck in Lenovo powered by android screen for long, then force reboot the phone and it will boot up to system.
What works?
-Here:
Call,SMS, VOLTE, Data, play store, Utouch, Fingerprint , Navigation, Double touch to wake, GCAM, Face Unlock, Hotspot, Banking apps, nearly everything.
What doesn't work?
- ROM specific. Bugs depend upon the treble ROM that you used as base. In some ROM, system sounds does not work. In MiUI 10, video recording might not work. Game Mode has some issues with global apps.
*FOR VIDEO RECORDING - see this : https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78219358&postcount=93 ****
*Update GPU drivers for VULKAN support. Link in the links section.***
Performance?
- Better than ZUI 4, smooth as butter, no stutter playing games like PUBG, notifications on time, decent SOT.
Can it be used as daily driver?
- Yes, if you can live with some Chinese texts in certain apps.
Any other thing?
- Because the ROM is ported from Z5 which has a notch, total area of the notification bar cannot be used. To see things like real time network speed and battery "percentage" you have to pull down the notification bar.
What should I do first after booting the device?
- Install play store from App center. Install magisk to remove bloat wares. Install any music app, since there is none. This will make the system optimal for us.
Also, Turn "True Full Screen Mode" ON in display settings for full screen in Apps.
Install Magisk and download and install "SafteyPatch V2" within Magisk to pass safetynet and hide banking apps in magisk hide to use them.
Open security app and give all important permissions to the apps you use, including system apps. Also include them in autorun/whitelist section.

******************************** FLASHING ISSUE ******************
While flashing this ROM, try to follow the guide above as strictly as possible. Use the ROM that is recommended.
If you are facing bootloop, download the vendor that is provided and restore it in twrp and then flash patch 1 and 2.
Also remember, during each and every step, your TWRP should have system and Vendor mounted. Check after every step.
Your phone might reboot once or twice during first boot, which is not an issue.
How to know if you flashed it correctly?
-If your phone boots into the system with "Lenovo bootanimation" , you flashed it correctly.
If your phone is stuck in "Lenovo - powered by android" splash image for more than 5 minutes, you got something wrong.

Notification bug is not there. Only sometimes, it seems that we get late notification.
You have to flash it over Oreo because the GSI is Oreo based. Flashing over pie should work as well, since treble ROM is required. Take a backup of your system so you can restore easily, if you face any issue.

Haven't tested, but should be flashable.
Edit : Custom kernel might brick the device. Will test and update.
Donot flash custom kernel, it causes self restart of device.
Note: Moxie kernels can be flashed, you should flash patch2 after flashing kernels. But, MIUI 10 comes with moxie R5.1 so no use flashing Moxie again.

I think only MIUI 10 rom works flawlessly for this GSI. I will update the main page details and ask to use MIUI 10 only.
You couldnot flash patch 2 because it requires vendor, and may be your vendor is now messed up.
So use MIUI 10 port, it works without any issue.

First version for Mi 8, Mi 8 Lite, Mi 8 SE, Mi 8 Pro
Before starting you will need to have the bootloader unlocked and have a custom Recovery (Keep in mind that the instructions in the previous links are generic, your device may require additional steps, check the forums of / XDA Developers in the section of your device for alternative instructions)
The OneOS team is not responsible for any lost data or damage caused to your device, all roms before being published are rigorously tested. Please read the instructions provided carefully
The steps to install are very simple, if you follow them to the letter, no problem will arise.
Download OneOS for your device
Make a backup of all your data, synchronize a copy of Xiaomi Cloud and Google, make a backup of WhatsApp, and all your photos and files in the internal memory
Reboot the device in Recovery
Go to the Wipe tab and perform a "factory format" which forces you to write "yes" on the screen
Reboot back into recovery
Transfer the previously downloaded OneOS file to internal memory
Go to the "install" tab
Select the OneOS file
Once installed, reboot (boot may take 10 to 15 minutes)
Update to new version of OneOS:
Unless otherwise indicated, it will not require any wipe
Download the OneOS update, you can do it from the updater itself, this is automatic and does not require a manual download.
If you have opted for the manual download of the update, you have two options:
From the OneOS updater select the installation package that you just downloaded
From Recovery, in this case, restart in Recovery, click on the "install" tab and select the file previously downloaded. If you did it from the computer, first you must transfer the file to the internal memory of the device. Once the installation has concluded, restart in the system and wait 10/15 minutes for it to boot.

Miui EU dont have center clock, dont have options to configurate colors on status bar, and more options and one os have better batery Life.
In my opinion is better option if you have Xiaomi base.
Is diferent.....taste It and tell me after.
Does it pass safetynet?
Their latest changelog and EU MIUi latest changelog is pretty similar. ?
Edit : digged up even more to their website, and found that they also used EU MIUi as based roms as well CN Dev Rom, so yeah, it makes sense that their changelogs are about the same, This Rom looks solid overall though, planning to flash this rom later.

I have oneos with magisk and safety net success, someone knows if the update requires the same procedure for safety net success, I am on the previous version and it seems wonderful
I'm really impressed with oneos. Flashing from eu stable 12.1.3.0 using TWRP. Just format data. Flashed magisk canary. I'm only playing an hour with it, but no problems with booting or disappearing TWRP (I'm using 3.4.2b). Didn't have to use fastboot. GPS was funky on the first try (low number of satellites), but looks that it's ok now. So far no problems
Can anyone comment on what dialler it uses? Google or Xiaomi?
