Phone (or I) forgot PIN - Fingerprint unlock OK - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

PIN doesn't work, although Fingerprint is OK, so either I input it wrong or one of us forgot. Is there anyway to rest the PIN w/o a Factory Reset? Thanks

Hmmmmm, the plot thickens . .. . .. . I attempted to use Android Device Manager to have Google lock the phone and provide a new passcode (PIN). ADM located the phone OK and tbe phone reflected that it had locked the phone with a new passcode. However the new passcode PIN did not function, the old PIN still did not work, but fortunately Fingerprint is still OK.
It appears that PIN may not function & I need to enter PIN to attempt to change it!

Yes. TWRP, rooted & ROM is ZAD Mix7 rev .2 with some minor mods. I recall the PIN working yesterday (I think). I certainly needed (& used it ) it to set the Fingerprint

Using TWRP or Any file explorer with root access and do the following:
- Go to file explorer then go to :
- data > system > locksettings.db (Delete that file)
- reboot and setup your pin or whatever you want.

Haha, I want to thank you for this. I've had this issue since upgrading from B20 to B29, but I just lived with it since I could unlock using my fingerprints.

N910C - broken fingerprint sensor, backup password not working, don't want wipe...

Hello,
N910C, COJ5, noroot. Suddenly my phone stopped to use fingerprint sensor and backup password I am providing is not being acceptable.
Short list:
- notifications, network, sms and incoming calls are working, BUT nothing else
- after restarts, removing battery, tries to use ODIN(3.07 & 3.10) or TWRP or kernel with permissive - not working (blocked by R/L) - I wanted to use root privileges to remove files in /data/system responsible for fingerprints and backup password.
- ADB is working
- I want to recover data before wipe - some free soft like Android Recovery Tool or sthg like this ?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

I see three ways:
-Try to unlock with the fingerprint, it will give you the option to enter a secondary password. Put a random pass 5 times until the device blocks you to keep entering wrong passwords. After that, a new button saying "Unlock with your google account" should appear. Touch it, put your email and password and wait for a couple of seconds. The device will unlock and will set the lockscreen to "Swipe".
-If that doesn't work (rare), try this, it shoud work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...ass-lock-screen-pattern-password-pin-t2948336 (since your device is locked you can't access to the MTP functions. You have to put the zip file in a external sd card and flash it with TWRP.
-If that doesn't work either (dafuq?), make a data backup in TWRP ("Backup" option, then select data only), wipe your device, flash a rom and then flash the backup again.
Also remember: "Wipe data" option in TWRP erases all ylur apps and configs, but your pesonal info like photos, documents, downloads, etc will still be at there.

I see that you did not read my post
All of these 3 options you mentioned are not possible.
Any other ideas?
I just copied via adb in shell all important files from internal memory and now after I wiped it out I got strange info that "This device is locked because of an abnormal factory reset"
I am not using Find My Mobile Samsung service so WTF ?! Why is it asking me for something that I am not using and it will be not working ???
Regards,
add-on: there was a Find My Mobile by Samsung block, but I used some mystery account I forgot about Now everything is up and running

Help! Changing screen lock type REQUIRES PASSWORD :(. What password?

I am on stock marshmallow, rooted.
My phone is unlocking with Swipe right now and i would like to set up a pattern/password, but I can't access "Screen lock type" because it requires me to enter a password. WHAT PASSWORD? It says "enter current password"......i have no clue...
please help me out with this problem...
PS:
I have no encription
I have no SD card
I have no Device Administrators on
"Clear credentials(Remove all certificates)" option is GREYED OUT
I have no VPN accounts
Thanks!
simple. just download some 3rd party lockscreen apps if you dont want to factory reset your phone just to set up a password
note: i still suggest not to use 3rd party lockscreen apps since most of them are bloat. but if you dont want to reset your phone, this is the only choice
Well hell yeah..i dont wanna install a 3rd party app for lockscreen
So you're telling me that the only reasonable solution is to flash stock again?
Damn, i hate flashing stock because it only works and wont give me a bootloop if i follow these steps: 1. Reflash 5.1.1 first // 2. Flash 6.0.1 ....... flashing 6.0.1 1st will give me bootloop
Ok, so i would suggest you to go in twrp mode(if you have one), then mount the system/go to twrp's file manager/ data/system find :
password.key
pattern.key
locksettings.db
locksettings.db-shm
locksettings.db-wal
and delete them, reboot, set up the lockscreen. Not sure if it will work for you , though it worked for me.
Ok. Thanks
So i tried your method. I only found the "locksettings" files. I deleted the files.
Now i can enter the menu to select my lockscreen method, BUT it seems none of the options are effective. I set a pattern/password/pin but my lockscreen is still on swipe....
Any idea?
PS: maybe i might have deleted some necessary files/apks when i debloated my phone. my phone is very light now . I only have a few necessary apps

I missed a word, that's why you didn't find the other files, the right name should be 'gesture.password.key' and 'gesture.pattern.key' , try deleting these 2 followed by the other 3 you deleted earlier.
Since this method didn't work you either deleted a necessary file manually, or the script you used for debloating deleted that file.
No other idea though, but you might trying flashing the system.img file using odin( if the trick above doesn't do the job, or if you are too lazy to flash the whole firmware) ?

Use fingerprint without phone lock

Hello. Many people wonder if they can use fingerprint without keeping any lock on phone. Answer is YES!
HOW TO DO?
1. Setup any lock (pattern or pin) and your fingerprint too ofcourse
2. Reboot into recovery or use any root browser.
3. Go to data/system folder.
4. If you have setup pattern lock then delete pattern.key file and if you have setup pin lock them delete pin/password.key file (Don't worry this won't harm your phone) and restart your phone.
5. Congratulations! Now you can unlock with fingerprint without any lock on your phone
Note: This is just a small trick and many may find this useful while many already know this. This is applicable on all android devices and mostly all versions too. Enjoy!
Thanks
Could you make an instruction also for Oreo ROMS?
Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the nice tutorial. I was using the "Lockscreen Disabler" Xposed module for this. If you select "No lockscreen", then you can unlock with fingerprint and there is no lock. If you change your mind, just select "Deactivate this mod" and it will be stock. That's without any reboot.

Please help me and excuse me for my bad english. SM-J510FN/DS

I'm new and hoping that someone can help me here.
I have two Android devices and i know that i should use google, i used it for over 10 hours and can't find a solution...
I can show you a video or a photo of the proof of purchase, the phone has no value for me, only the files are important to me. I forgot my 4 to 6 digit pin on my second device, because i only used it two times per month. USB debugging and mobile data are turned off. Is there a way to bypass the pin or save the data?
DrFone has not listed my device. Have already tried in the recovery menu, the device to "mount". So I can enable automatic USB debugging. Developer option is I think off and the current Android version is probably 6.0.1. However, did not work, it came an error message
"failed to open dev block/bootdevice by name misc no such file or directory".
I'm not sure about this solution, but do you think that this will working for my problem ?
""1. You need to be rooted and cwm installed.(dont worry if you are not rooted, you can still root and continue to the procedure...)
2.you need aroma file manager.....
Steps:
1.copy aromafm-1.91.zip in your sdcard
2.reboot into recovery.(turn off, then hold volume up+home+power key)
3.install zip from sdcard.
4.select aromafm-1.91.zip
5.then go to settings scroll down and select mount everything, then come back to main menu...
6.now go to data/system and find gesture.key and delete it
7.exit and reboot..
8.when you restart you will still c pattern lock screen jst swipe""
Maybe you have other options ?

LGK20+ (STILLL UNLOCKED) but forgot screeen loco pin ! ! !

I have kept my phone from locking for a day because I Forgot the lockscreeen passsword while changing it on LGK20+, I'm roooted is there any way to disable/delete the lockscreeen pin using twrp? I read an article online that says I can delete a few files ending in .key and i willl be able to set a new passsword can any1 confirm that or have an easier way to disable my lockscreeen pin ( i've prevented it from locking so far),,,...
Pitchblack Recovery, which you can download from a thread on our K20plus forum, has an option within advanced tools with several useful scripts one of which is removing Fingerprint/PIN passwords. It deletes some specific files but I'm not sure of the full extent of these scripts.
