dtek60 - BlackBerry DTEK50 Questions & Answers

Ok gang, need to get impressions and tricks and enhancement advice for dtek60.
Hopefully there are more people willing to get this android phone. For the specs I felt this was a steal.

Hey is there another bench mark app ?
Geekbench 4 got some poor ratings

Dtek60 is a good phone but the blackberry os has a lot to be desired. I don't know if blackberry is known to update their os periodically but from what I can tell it's security updates are timely.
So if you are in a market for a decent phone, the dtek60 is a great phone. But it offers very limited options for phone apps i.e. camera app etc. There's not native file explore had to down load a third party app.
It's android vanilla experience to the max. I'd wised there were some nice enhancements like Samsung does with their android os.

I guess everyone is different. For me the BlackBerry android os is what makes the dtek so much better than the rest. Its almost pure android with some great BlackBerry features such as hub, keyboard, swipe gestures to access apps and productivity tab.
Since I got the dtek50 I've tried many flagship phones only to come back to dtek. This includes galaxy s7(can't stand touchwiz), LG g5 and Sony xperia X performance. All of them are great hardware but I can't use the OS.

I'm actually rethinking the dtek60.
I had it, was in my 30 day period of return so I did return it. But i may reconsider it.
Thanks for the tip.

Did you end up buying it again?
Funnily enough I ended up buying a google pixel since ingot a good deal on it. Nice phone, but after a day, I ended up selling it as I don't see a huge difference in performance other than camera
So here you go we all underestimate how good the dtek50 is..

OK, so I ended up getting the LG v20.
I'm very impressed but I think the dtek60 is equally as nice.
So if you have dtek60 then keep it.
If you have LG v20.. Then keep it.... Switching to the other wouldn't be worth it.

if anyone is interested.
Here is the firmware for TCL 950 which, from the outside, looks like Alcatel Idol 4s (also produced by TCL), but the hardware is more like DTEK60 (also produced by TCL).
Maybe it will help someone ...

Fascinate/Verizon Experience...

I don't know about the rest of you all but my experience with this phone and Verizon is not great. I expected the phone to be up to par with various other phones but its not. Its laughable how it hasn't even got the 2.2 update yet when some phones are already moving to 2.3 updates. Samsung is quite a let down! I will be buying the HTC Thunderbolt when it comes out (hopefully thats soon). It looks like it will be a lot like the EVO on Sprint which I love. Goodbye Samsung!
Well if your only complaint is you're .1 behind, I'd say your case is weak at best. Enjoy your Thunderbolt.

There are others like the fact that they decided to use Bing instead of Google. Seriously? What a great idea that was!

I have to agree that, out of the box, this phone is a huge disappointment. The screen is nice, but everything done to the software is atrocious. Although I like to play with ROMs and root my phone and all that, no one should HAVE to do that to have a good experience with an Android phone. The real fragmentation happening with Android is the fact that Google, through the AOSP, is letting manufacturers take a product that has become thoroughly refined and muck it up. If I was an average (non-techy) user, and my first experience of Android was the Fascinate, I would be TREMENDOUSLY let down. It is much different for computers where the crap we don't want may just take an extra hour or two to go through add/remove programs in Windows. The savings you will get on a PC easily justify this slight time waste. This is not the case with phones. Most people are a slave to the experience the manufacturer gives them, and often times this experience will shape your opinion of an overall product. Having owned a Nexus One, and having rooted/ROMed my original G1, I am fully aware of the experience Android is capable of. Sadly many people don't get to experience this and often get a watered down, murky presentation of what Android was/is meant to be.
I have owned many phones, HTC and others. I have never had such a great experience. I think this phone is terrific. The things I can do with this phone are outstanding. I like the look, the feel but especially what it can do. The camera is good, can take a picture of handwritten notes, almost anything that you want to recall later. The apps, camcard, camscanner, earth, smart tools, documents to go - it goes on and on. I really can't, at this point, image a better phone. It's the BEST.
Just to keep it short and sweet:
I love my Fascinate. I came from a Samsung Omnia II so the Windows Mobile > Android jump obviously has been like night and day.
I am however, on my second Fascinate (details here) simply because I had signal issues with my first one. Not Verizon's fault, not Samsung's fault, just a lemon. It happens. This new one has been great with battery life (24+ hours before needing a charge), I've always loved Samsung's camera software, and I've customized the hell out of the phone without even bothering to root it as I just haven't had a need to yet. And this is coming from someone who used to flash ROMs practically monthly with his Omnia II.
I don't live in a metro area so 4G will not get to my locale until 2013ish most likely. And for me, 3G speeds work perfectly fine for what *I* want to do on a phone on a daily basis and if I need WiFi speeds, it's there. I could've waited for a 4G phone or an iPhone, but personally, right now, this is the phone for me. Fast (and will get faster with 2.2), beautiful display, thin, customizable...
My coworkers have an LG Ally, an HTC Incredible, and a Motorola Droid X - I like my phone better and so do most of them
The beautiful thing about Android is that with each vendor's phones there are pros and cons. For me, this phone fits perfectly.
But, just to keep things in perspective, there are of course annoyances:
#1) Bing. My bypass is I have a Voice Search shortcut on my home screen to do voice searches (that go straight to Google) and I have my browser's homepage set to google.com. I never see Bing, but it's still an annoyance.
#2) Delay after delay of 2.2. This is just some sort of commercial/bureaucratic bs, but it still sucks and I'll be happier than I am now when we get it.

The Play has vastly improved since release, Do you agree?

I remember the day I got my Xperia Play months back and thinking how many bugs and issues it had, it was a great device let down by buggy SE software.
Fast forward a few months to the latest SE update and the change is like night and day, it really is like using a new device!, fast, snappy, more features, fast booting, I really am happy with the support SE has been putting into the Play post launch.
Add to this the recent surge in Android Development here at XDA with CM7, DoomKernal, PSXperia, Overclocking, Recovery, Bootloader unlocking etc and it really is looking good for us Play owners!
And the games/Development support?
Since E3 and Gamesconn the Play has been going from strength to strength, lots of great new games from major developers such as Minecraft, Dead Space, Reckless Getaway, Need For Speed, Fifa and lots more still planned.
A few months ago the future wasn't looking that good for the Play, this has all changed thanks to the continued SE support, development support and the modding/hacking scene on XDA! I was very close to selling my device but now I honestly feel like this is the best phone out there specially for gaming, I will be keeping it well into next year now!
Everyone deserves a pat on the back for making the Play a success against all odds! lets make a toast!
What do you think?
I was skeptical about SE's ability to properly support their handsets due to the bad stories from 2010 but it really seems that they want to change their behavior now in 2011.
I bought my Xperia Play yesterday, being confident after seeing the same improvements that you mentioned.
I never lost faith in the device
onward and upwards

Given the terrible records of Sony's support (e-readers in particular, PSN scandal, and so on) I'm surprised about the good job they're doing with the Play. And yes, Sony Ericsson is a division of Sony, so I consider them one and the same.
Its a good device. But for that kind of price i did expect a FEW better feautures (5MP HD atleast...or a HDMI port for all carriers)BUt its ok..i guess i'll without since the only thing i need is PSOne GAMES on a PORTABLE DEVICE DD
Which carriers have the HDMI out on Xperia Play...
Also USA totally got the best deal of the lot... Isn't it like $100 or $200 dollars on Verizon where is here in AU/NZ it is around 8 - 900 US.
I suppose we get the added bonus of:
-great customer service
-not being locked to any network
-not being on CDMA
-Updates on time
-Not having a branded phone
-Sony Ericsson actually answers our questions.
And I got my Xperia Play for free... So no complaints.

Its $99 with a 2 year contract on Verizon. Theres a couple little caveats one being that its still running 2.3.2 and Verizon is slow as crap to update. The other is they totally stripped the phone of SE's UI features and broke the facebook connectivity as well (remedied by downloading Fsync from Watto). So a lot of the cool stuff that it does besides gaming doesn't work and won't be available on Verizon unless you root it.
That said all the gaming features are there, and the games play perfect, so in the end its good enough and totally worth the price. The one thing about Verizon as well is it is by far the most reliable cell service in the US, so for the most basic feature that is most important, it always works.

I don't know about the US getting the best deal in my opinion, over here in the uk recent price drops let me pick up a xplay sim free for £260 from Expansys, personally I am willing to pay a bit more for being carrier free (plus at the moment no carrier over here are offering good contracts with the phone, ie. it actually works out cheaper to buy a sim free xplay and a sim only contract.).

I really like how the Verizon Play shipped without most of SE's UI. IMHO I think it makes it run faster and comes with less bloat than normal.
Now that we have root I have removed or frozen almost all of my unwanted processes and apps, leaving me with a close to vanilla version of Android with Xplay Launcher and store support.
If we are able to get a kernel to O/C CDMA stock, I would consider this the best "rom" out there for the Play

I got my play. The week it came out. BNIB for £300 on ebay I was quite impressed
I agree; development on the Xperia Play is picking up, I didn't expect this phone to receive a lot of community/hacking attention because I thought it was supposed to target a very specific group of people, turns out I was wrong.
In Singapore now you can get the phone for free with a 2 year S$36 plan. That includes 12GB of data (never will you finish using). I bought it for $238 with plan 2 months ago *cries*

It probably does run faster but from what I hear the SE UI stuff actually doesn't sound bad. Plus theres new updates like xLoud and DLNA connectivity that we probably won't get. Just bothers me that I don't have a choice on it, if I didn't want choice I'd buy an iPhone .
I totally agree. When I first got the phone, just getting root access was a huge deal. Just a couple months later I have full fledged bootloader unlock, custom kernel, latest SE firmware and the choice of putting Cyanogenmod on there.
If Blagus manages to get sense working I'll pee myself
Definitely a great phone!

I paid 100 CAD for it with a contract. Rogers had it for $50 recently with a three year term. Best phone I've ever had, with the exception of my ultra reliable Nokia 6126. That phone was the bomb when it was still new.
Things just keep improving with the play. Very large contrast compared to my last SE phone years ago, which was a total piece of garbage and wouldn't even make calls properly brand new (I went through 3 replacements)

Don't be a pratt,
How is one of the most successful CEO's of recent times going to be forgotton even when he has gone? he will be remembered for many good things.
This isn't about android vs ios, put that to one side for a moment.
Hate him or love him he changed the whole mobile device market for the better, without ios/iphone there would not have been the huge shift in design and competition of smartphones, before the iphone the smartphone wasn't doing well, without ios/iphone there would be no android, no ios, no windows mobile 7, instead we would still be using our basic nokias and moto's!
You think back to 2007 before the iphone announcement, the range of "smartphones" out was a joke, I had a Nokia N95 which was considered one of the best and compared to todays devices it is a very basic smartphone.
Now think forward to six months after the release of the iphone, EVERY smartphone company totally shifted design to try and compete with the iphone, this is how it all started for the better, now look at today, we have amazing devices with a huge choice, Android devices are so smart and advanced, it's amazing to think about how those 4 years have made todays devices possible!
The same is happening with tablets.
But yeah, I have been following his condition on Neogaf and it seems like it could be anyday now

Disappointed...

My Galaxy Nexus drowned (fu Sandy!) in my living room. Time to buy a new phone off contract, ready and willing to pay full price for the device.
I was looking forward to buying a WP8 device... either Lumia 920 or 8X, but whatever forces absolutely killed it for me.
Nokia with their moronic exclusivity periods and no AWS on the unlocked version. Where do I get the Rogers version for a sensible price?
8X was pretty appealing too until I found out that there is no Nokia Transport on it.
Back to an Android device... disappointed.

I´ve been a Android user for years but since 2 days i have a Lumia 920.
WP phone is nice, it has a nice design, its fast and everything has a nice animation. but to be honest i miss my android. all the custom roms, flashes, apk. downloads. Mods, Design chagens. Honestly man i dont really now.
All in all Lumia 920 is a great device.
Android suits a certain sort of person. The whole "overclocker" and custom PC crowd. For the rest of us looking for an optimal communication device the Windows Phone devices fit the bill.
iOS isn't "optimal" IMHO. So much relies upon launching an app. I can take a photo on WP8 and upload it in seconds to Facebook.
I used Windows phone on an HD, it was configurable, I loved flashing roms etc... But I got an original Omnia 7 two years ago, I now have a 920.... unlocked... I like the windows phones, once you get over the "I have no control" thing, you realise, the phone doesn't need flashing e.t.c. it just works out of the box.
Not too happy with IE10 though, as hover over boxes dont work very well.. :s

Did you check your thread? I gave you a suggestion. Also, not being happy with IE10 for not being able to do something most touch browsers can't do (or rather, not being able to do something that is stupid and it shouldn't have to do) is pretty... arbitrary.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I never liked android, and I probably never will. Hell I like WebOS better. Android is very flexible but even if you put a significant amount of effort into crafting a speedy and efficient environment, you cannot escape android's terrible flaws. I love *nix, and while android is modeled after the *nix's, it completely fails to bring the spirit of the platform over and in the end it's just an inconsistent shameful mess. The biggest problem I have with android is it has the potential for power, but android itself is completely barren of any functionality and everything is left up to apps, and piling apps upon apps, ranging from decently to ****tily programed, results in complete instability and my undying hatred. It really depends on what you try to do of course, but funnily enough all of the things I could easily do with a 700MHz WM6 device caused android to crash and completely fail on a dual core 1.2GhHz tablet. It's the difference between an app-centric device and a computer framework, I guess. Professional code, corporate "apps" and the solid framework of WM6 definitely shine when compared against the largely unprofessionally created software that make up android's market, and while android itself is more or less just OK in terms of quality of code, as I have said, it literally can do nothing on its own. I think the most infuriating example is me trying to set a background, and you need a goddamn third party app to do this, otherwise your picture is plastered with the wrong proportions over the scrolling homescreen thing.
Granted, WP7 and WP8 wouldn't even let me *try* to do the things I would do with WM6, but I thoroughly enjoy the concept of live tiles (which I argue are better than widgets, and they are certainly more embraced by WP devs than widgets) and I thoroughly enjoy the efficient, unified system. After using WP for a while, you start to realize that the phone is a valid platform in of itself, and you don't necessarily need or want it to have the power of the PC; a proprietary and flexible system (like WP8 is now) is very powerful and performs what it needs to do with greater efficiency and direction than you could with a PC. That being said, I picked up my HD2 today and I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the tempting and awesome dark powers of WM6...
Obligatory: and iOS is a joke. I mean, it works, but it's not efficient or well designed in any way, and I think the styling is pretty ugly to boot. It has the same problem that android does with relying on apps for everything, except without the flexibility. I had a dumbphone that was pretty smart to be fair, but it quite literally matched everything the iPhone could do with j2me apps, and the system supported flash (!) and had a native file browser. Quite shameful to be bested by a dumbphone. The only reason iOS sells is because the 'cult of apple', and people are accustomed to the rather bad design since it's been out for a while (which was better than most dumbphones at the time, to be fair, but the system has stagnated because apple refuses to improve upon the original design), and also there are a healthy number of apps that provide decent functionality for the average user.

So... you're on T-mobile? Don't overlook the 810. The tech-geek-in-you's first reaction will be, "No HD screen?! No way!" But, consider this, I'll come back to the screen in a sec. The 810 has the exact same specs as the 8X and 920 outside of screen resolution. 1.5Ghz processor, 1gig of ram and so on with one difference... MicroSD card.
Now to the screen. It's 4.3" so not the largest and not the smallest. But, let me tell you... the AMOLED makes this thing pop. It looks really good. Not quite as good as the 920, but better than most. And, with the ClearBlack tech, it's really nice in direct light. Excuse me for sounding like an ad, but it's true. I don't think you can go wrong with the 810 at all. It's light and feels really good in the hand. I can say I'm quite happy with my 810 after getting over the same disappointment as you have about the 920. I just wish it had 16GB of internal storage as apps can only be installed internally and not on the SD card.
But, it's not an overly expensive phone and Nokia says they have the new hotness coming this Spring. So, you can wait and see what that's all about and maybe upgrade at that point. I suggest you head down to ye olde Magenta's shop and take a go at the 810. You may find yourself pleasantly pleased.
3 years ago i've bought htc mytouch 3g (android 1.6-2.3.1). it was something new - after my blackberry pearl.
1 year later i've replaced mytouch with new htc hd7 (wp7-7.5), and i found out, that a smartphone may make calls! and it must not freeze every time i want to call! since 2 years of htc hd7 i've bought nokia lumia 920. it looks like my previous htc hd7 - only better.
my wife has been using sumsung galaxy s for one year. it was the worst phone in her life (by her own words). it had poorest battery life and applications, that you can't kill, but that dry your battery up in minutes and eat a lot of data through 3G. after that i've bought nokia lumia 710 for her. and she's happy! she has a smartphone now, that can call!
i will never ever go back to an android-phone.
I feel the same way. I grew tired of this works but not this constantly searching for new roms over clock under lock blah blahblah. I was tired of it.this phone needs none of that

Heavily exaggerated, I live on FB and the benefits outweigh the negatives by a longshot.

Exaggerated, I agree. The vast majority of popular apps are available (even if half of 'em are redundant due to built-in functionality, e.g. Evernote, Shazaam, et al.). What's lacking is the ubiquity of every random useless app being available, e.g. Costco or someone coming out with an app (that I can't imagine who would even want) for iOS only or maybe throwing Android in the mix.
For fb in particular, yes, the app has some shortcomings, but the built-in integration is good for 90% of what I need to do without even launching the app; the app handles all that plus most of the rest of anything I'd do. And the phone has IE10 built in, and does a nice job with the full desktop version of the website in a pinch.
Is Hulu available?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2
WP has Facebook integration built in. It works pretty well on the whole. Some features aren't directly supported, like reading groups. But if it supported every feature it may as well be branded a Facebook phone.
You can take a photo and upload it to Facebook faster than other devices in my experience.
Exchanged One S for Lumia 820... So far, I'm loving it. I hope that this platform succeeds. I'm amazed that everything just... works! Missing Hulu and Spotify big time though...

to use or not to use a special FBI (or just FB, if you want ) app is a question of taste. my wife prefers to open facebook.com in safari on her ipad instead of using any FBI application. FBI on WP8, probably doesn't have all the features, the browser version provides, but enough to feel comfortable as much as it's possible to feel comfortable with FBI on a mobile device. and FBI intergration in WP8 is a pretty tasty additional benefit.

The fun fact is that most FB apps are worse than just using the browser. The only exception I know of is the WP one lol.
Facebook app is so bad that I'm getting pissed of WP8 because of that. And Skype. Yes, I know, Skype is beta, but yet, Microsoft bought it 18 months ago, and I'm pretty sure they know they would release WP8 already to develop a decent and FINAL app for it.
But now, I'm using a buggy version of Skype that doesnt even support chat when i'm not using the app.
And I dont know why Microsoft try to develop the Facebook app. Why Facebook don't do that? Mine is force closing when I'm using the message. Everytime I use it, actually. Push Notifications just doesnt work. No matter what I do.
Ah, guys, I noticed.. Sometimes resuming apps is slower than just re-opening it. Just me?!

Jumped the ship!!

Yesterday, after using Z1 for almost 8 months, I jumped the ship and bought a Blackberry Z30!!. Yes it is a BB!!. I'm loving it so far.
Not that I didn't like my Z1 - i really liked the build quality of z1 and the sony UI. I just got bored of android in general and been reading a lot about the new Blackberry. The BB 10 is really good on Z30 and its so easy to use - with the new BB 10 OS, I can load all the android apps also - so i've pretty much all my favarouite apps on the new Z30 and loving it!!. The big noticeable difference is the poor camera quality - i dont think any phone comes close to Xperia when it comes to the camera. But other than that, I'm liking everything on the BB so far!!
Just thought I'd put this on..let me know if anyone has done something similar..

Just tell us do you will be so excited after a couple of weeks... In my case if I would switch to another OS from Android, then I think it would be Sailfish OS or Ubuntu touch. The Z30 doesn´t even have an open source OS I think, so it is very factory limited, doesn´t it ?
Why downgrade? Lol

Why are you loving it? you haven't actually said anything... you say you got bored of Android, but then say you can install all Android apps... And that the camera is ****... so what is the benefit of having a blackberry? What's so nice about it? Z30 doesn't even have a physical keyboard right? I just don't see the point.
Woah... BB! Welcome to 2010!
All the people who using Blackberry I cannot understand them. It's something out of understanding and I think is a kind of mental problem where you have deeply search for the answer, why?
As long as you're happy, i tried the z10 for a while, it was awful
If i were to switch to a different OS blackberry would be last on the list(unless it changes for the better)
Ubuntu seems tempting, otherwise iOS or WP
But im pretty happy with android right now and i can't imagine switching to a BB from my Z1 unless my Z1 broke and i magically receive a BB for free and even then i would switch as soon as i can

Well, mate, if it makes you happy that's all it matters, right? If it'd be me, no, I wouldn't do such a switch, most probably I'd try iOS, ONLY IF Apple decides to come out with phones in range of 4.7 - 5.2", but most probably, I'd give a shot to WP in the works by Sony, according to rumors. I really wouldn't go as far as @eclyptos and call it a "mental problem", I think it's a bit... harsh and unfair to call it that, it's just your choice, and if you're happy with it, fine, if not, you'll decide what to do.
Good luck!

Ok. Here are the reasons why i love the BB Z30
The BB 10 OS is damn smooth and I can be so productive with the BB HUB - everything is in one place..all my emails, chats and Whatsapp messages. I'm pretty much on it all the time without having to switch between apps. Its probably not for everyone. But for me its so convenient.
Multitasking is so much better on BB 10. With the active frames, getting to what i want is so much smoother and quicker.
The keyboard - there is no comparison between the BB keyboard and anything else out there in my opinion. Its so intuitive and within a day, it has learnt everything about my typing style. so getting this done on emails and chat is so much quicker for me now.
The BB email app is so much better - i can search all my gmails and quickly look for emails that are from 2009 within seconds!! Cloudmagic on android is similar - but it stores every email on their server which i don't like.
In general, the Z30 is so much faster when it comes to browsing or even looking for apps within the phone. Everything is so much smoother and pleasant to use.
I know everyone here thinks going to BB is a step backwards. But with the new BB10 and Z30, I think they've taken a step forward for sure..
Bash me all you like - for the time being, I'll stick with the Z30..

I work for the heath unit in I.T and we have a lot of blackberries, ranging from all the new blackberries. The q10 has been great as with z30 the z10 has had some problems. A lot of people are used to blackberries although we do have a lot of iphones and androids. BB10 is one smooth operating system. I have used QNX for other applications in the past and it is fast. Blackberry did a lot right with BB10 for sure. The browser is lighting fast as well. Email's is what they do best and it's still probably the best with exchange although we did have a few issues at first. Sideloading apps we do not allow for obvious reasons but for personal use it a great option to have since they are lacking in some core apps.
Compared to android you can tell it's been optimized and just runs better than android and that's coming from an android user since the galaxy S. Blackberry has a bad stigma around it but it doesn't mean it not great
"jumped the ship" lol, sure you didnt jump off the ship and into the Canoe?
Curious as to why people start these threads about other devices, what is the actual point, do you work for Blackberry or are you looking for trolls?
He got bored of android so he downgraded to a slower phone, which happens to be blackberry and loaded android apps on it...
Lol
?
@vhl71 - Good for you! Enjoy BB10, it is an elegant and efficient OS (I enjoy my Z10 very much). I am not a fanboy of any platform - but rather a fanboy or Tech and Gadgets in general.
Currently in my arsenal:
~ HTC One (M8) (sold Nexus 5 for this)
~ Galaxy Note 3
~ iPhone 5S
~ Nokia Lumia 1020
~ BB Z10 (Z30 has been on my mind)
~ MS Surface 2
~ iPad Mini
~ Nexus 7
~ Mac Mini & a Custom built Win 8 PC
They all have their Pros and Cons - but ain't choice a great thing? I agree with @bodson66 BB has a bad stigma and I hope they can turn things around. Platform choice and competition are good for innovation which is great for ALL OF US!

We better get LG V10's software improvements or I'm done with LG

I'm tired of this planned obselesence bull. It has the same exact camera. If I don't see high bitrate 4k, 60fps 1080p, and manual video control I'm done. Furthermore, I better not see any UI improvements that won't be present on the G4 in a near future time.
If they do any of this nonsense on a year old, marketed, FLAGship, I'm finished. At that point I'll know the path they are taking with their phones and what they think of their consumers.
I see what you mean but we live in such system, now more than ever, programmed obsolesence is the first reason phone's are sold. We can't do nothing really, what we can do is stopping buying but no one will do that because for one that not buy there are millions that buy, try to port features or just use alternative apps.
Yep, then don't buy. Vote with your wallet, eventually these companies would understand why their sales are dropping. I've already sold my LG G4
I jumped ship this evening and ordered the 6P. I've had several awful days of lock ups, lag, bad touchscreen response, weird graphic glitches, etc. Just done.

Hmmm.. An open conversation between developer and consumer? At least with Google, you KNOW you have at least a year before they will release their next flagship. I bought the G4 and LITERALLY the next day the V10 leaks started! Also... frequent updates without carrier bs (I'll never forget the update I got on my last phone.. when everyone else was getting Lollipop, AT&T pushed out an update that installed UBER and AT&T Live on my damn phone lol). The Nexus will have a vibrant developer community that isn't hobbled by locked bootloaders and carrier restrictions, and a Fingerprint scanner to name a few. But, the G4 does have some features that I don't think you'll find on the 6p! Namely, horrible touch-screen response, lag that appears out of nowhere, a plastic back that can get so hot I'd swear it was metal. Sorry for the pessimism but this is only my 2nd Android phone and I'm batting 0/2 as my first was the AT&T variant of the Galaxy S5 (RIP Safestrap!) and I'm done with this crap lol. As soon as possible, I'm hitching my horse to a Nexus and never looking back! PS I forgot! The 6P has that giant Cyclops eye on it's backend! Also, having said all that, the developers that are working here on the G4 are amazing! The fact that they've been able to do what they have despite the restrictions is awesome!
I will definitely miss the manual camera, I think LG did a great job with that, and I'm disappointed that Google has not included manual settings in the stock camera. But there are other manual camera apps for that. I've been hunting down camera comparison shots for weeks, looking to see that the 6P can hold it's own, and I'm confident in all the test shots I've found. It's less a question on what the 6P has than what it DOESN'T have. I have reached the end of my patience with the bad performance of the G4 that I'm willing to lose some (if any) camera quality to gain stability and reliability. It's true that you gain a thriving development community with Nexus, but the development on the G4 didn't bother me to begin with. I'm perfectly happy with just root! It's a shame, because I had a G3 which I loved.

I've said this for years xD I'm no longer buy Apple devices or Samsung devices. I'm only left with LG, Sony and the smaller brands. Haha.
Every company does this, so, if this happens now, I won't have another LG. These companies just keep trying to sell more and more phones every year.
I'm also crossed that LG doesn't allow longer exposures for third party apps so you don't have 30 sec. exposure times.
I must say that from all the brands. I was the most satisfied with HTC. (had One M7). Good updates, has google play edition. Awesome policy. Too bad that when G4 came out you really didn't have a good camera phone except it and S6.
Too bad, the companies are shifting to this practice. As @Mad_Duke said the HTC M7 was the phone I liked the most (except for the camera). For the past 1,5 years I owned Sony (Z3), OnePlus (One), Samsung (S6/920F) and now the G4. I have to say that Oneplus was the most satisfying overall. All big names are unfortunately doing their own practices to sell more phones. Sony was slow at releasing 5.0 (and when it got released it was a "crippled" update), Samsung puts too much bloat and do not release the full documents for the Exynos, thus the development is slow. So far LG is kind of OK, at least you can flash some of the updated apps. However, if you want the fastest and most developed phones, you have to go with Nexus (or OnePlus like) devices.
I kinda expected manual camera for g3 when g4 came out. However, seeing a reality of thos bussiness I can see why they need to constantly shell out new products and plan the software obsolence of the older ones - because market (all of us) demands it. We need new models, company just cant sell same phone for 2 years and just shell out the updates (even with nexus5 we started demanding new models).
Vallet voting, just that.
I hope your post is a joke!
I had Nexus 4 before, and even if it was a Google device,I never had manual camera(with third party App),HDR+ or other improvements.
The same is happened with Samsung,Sony and Apple.
So what are we talking about?
If you want devices that has improvements in camera you should buy a Windows Phone.
After updates, even Lumia 520 has Manual Camera.
What a stupid thread
I have had marshmallow since day one ableit custom rom
Unlocked bootloader h815
Lg are a business in a cut throat market with so much choice for the consumer
You cannot live without the extra features? Wow lol
Imho its the best phone of 2015
Wow... just wow. Some of you guys are expecting waaay to much. It's not like other companies/phones bring all the latest **** to their older phones. The V10 has extra hardware to make some of the new video features work, so no, you probably won't get these features.
Also, LG is the first non-nexus to update to marshmallow but for some this still isn't fast enough. They offer fine support for this phone, realize normal consumers don't care if updates like these take longer (see Samsung) but LG is offering it way faster anyway.
The G4 looks very attractive right now.
The v10 is bigger, in size. Great video if you need it.

S6 still does not have shutter control in the UI, the s6e+ & note 5 which came out only 3 months later have it.
S6 has raw and shutter in the api so if you use a 3rd party app you can use it but everybody wants to do this in the stock app.
The Z5 has shutter control, still no raw. Previous xperias have no shutter control because companies lock down the camera api to the point that the only reliable camera app you can use is the stock one.

not really, the 930 languished for a couple of years after it launched. Its successor is two years late, the 950 but the OS is difficult to deal with without google services integration.
its true nokia camera interface is ahead of the curve and is available even on budget devices. But OIS, lens, bigger sensor and image processing requires more cpu is only present on higher end models. The 830 has ois. The 1020 can't do 4k.
G4 has been a POS since day one with the exception of the fantastic camera. I cannot believe that ppl are still here when you got phones like the Note 5 and 6P on the market. A removable battery and SD card slot does not solve lag and touchscreen issues....
