Adoptable storage for Tab A 10.1 with S Pen (P580) without root? - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

Adb trick doesn't work, seems like Samsung has disabled sm partition command. Any other ways without rooting?

I don't think there is a way because Samsung got rid of that in the Marshmallow Updates. So, in order to do that you will need
TWRP https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxytaba101wifi2016spen.html (Read Instructions! There are two ways to do it!)
SuperSU.zip https://download.chainfire.eu/1012/SuperSU/SR3-SuperSU-v2.78-SR3-20161103171345.zip
Root Essentials https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.superthomaslab.rootessentials&hl=en
TWRP modifies your device so you have to install it to install SuperSU.
After you flash SuperSU, you will have a SuperSU application installed and you will have Root Privileges.
Root Essentials will give you adoptable storage, even though Samsung hid their buttons for that.
Samsung just hid it and be careful because after you make your microSD card adoptable to the device, then the microSD card will lose those amount of storage you have set.
Hope I helped!

Tried to do this but it requires a plugin to be installed and TWRP is failing to install it.

I changed "vold.fstab" and lost access to my SD card.

Hello everone,
i'm facing a really heavy problem with my Samsung Galaxy Ace 2. Since i wanted to change the internal with the external storage, i found out that there is the option to replace the original "vold.fstab". At this time i had root access of course. Everything worked fine at this moment, until i decided to do a factory reset, including delete USB storage (which was the fake internal storage now, because it switched). To make things even more difficult, i deinstalled the root access. The phone still works fine, but i completely lost access to my 32GB sd card and can't download anything anymore. My phone keeps saying "Couldn't download...".
I'm not the biggest smartphone genius, but i already tried a few things.
1. I've tried to use Odin, to flash the original firmware. But i was unable to get a connection in download mode.
2. I tried to replace the modded "vold.fstab" with the original one. But it's not possible withouth root access.
3. I tried Kango Root. Not working.
I appreciate any help i can get. Thanks in advance!

Help with sd card as portable media

Ok so ive finally upgraded my s4 to a s5 unlocked bootloader, rooted and resurrection rom. I understand the whole adaptable media and encryption. I want my sd card as portable so i can use it in my pc and other phones if needed. Also to use titanium backup to restore apps if i wipe and install a fresh rom.
My problem is es file explorer, root explorer, and any archiving apps are all jacked up and wont write as they used to. I am able to write to the sd card but i want to have full control like i used to on older roms on my s4.
Any help?

I'm using Ressurection too. Marshmallow can be a pain with the sdcard. Apps have to ask for write permission when it first needs it and you have make sure to grant it.
Titanium Backup works with the external sdcard but you have to go to "Preferences", then to "Backup Folder Location", click where it says "Storage provider:", select " Document provider storage", go to the external sdcard (not a directory in it) and press "select", and then go to the TB backup directory and select "Use the current folder".
If you're using a multi partitioned sdcard, Link2SD doesn't work but Apps2SD appears to work fine. Either way, you'll probably get a notification about a corrupted sdcard for each extra partition. You can safely ignore them. Long press on the notification and select the crossed bell icon to prevent it from popping up again.
Some apps have trouble if they are opened from another app. Rar wouldn't work for me in ES File Explorer until I opened it from the app drawer. Then the correct permission dialog popped up and it was fine ever since.
I would also strongly suggest setting selinux mode to permissive. I suggest using SELinuxModeChanger.
Thanks. I changed the selinux mode but es is still wonky when working with zips. I also tried zarchiver opened directly and it has problems too. Oh well.
I did get tibu working previously as you stated.
I hate when enhancements are downgrades!!
Thank you for the information.

Umi Zero has ROOT access but cannot access file explorer and missing SD card

Hello guys,
I have had so many problems with this flipping phone, 1 problem after another. I've installed the latest ROM 6.0.1 Resurrection remix marshmallow and I have root access as I have checked through RootChecker, but every time I try clicking on gallery { no external storage available) and camera the same.. also cannot access sd card even though I have internal storage..apparantly I need to give everything root access but I don't know how, I already have supersu and superuser.. Now I don't physically have an SD card but i had no issue like this before with previous ROM. File manager also says " this operation requires elevated permissions,Try changing to root access mode" I have already done this by clicking APPS and ADB... I don't know what else do I do.. I have installed this ROM using ROOTJOY if that helps, and every time I plug in usb, it shows Umi zero and then "this folder is empty" .. does this make sense? someone please help, thanks

Please help: No Root, MicroSD controller dead, need Adopted Storage Key to decrypt SD

I'm in a catch-22 situation. My S5's microSD card reader no longer works because the controller chip was damaged by water. The rest of the phone still works fine.
The SD card was used as shared memory (adoptable storage), meaning it is encrypted. Without the key (16-bit AES265) it is impossible to decrypt. I read that the key is in data\misc\vold but in order to get it, you need to root the phone.
Is there any way to root an S5 (Android 6.0.1) without the encryption key file being wiped?
Thank you so much!
UPDATE: I was incredibly lucky. The bootloader of my S5 is unlocked, so I could use odin to install twrp and then back up the key file. I also used twrp to make a full backup of the phone. So I will now try to restore the backup to a new phone of the same type, and if that doesn't work I'll decrypt the microSD card using this method: nelenkov.blogspot.com/2015/06/decrypting-android-m-adopted-storage.html

One time ROOT in order to use undelete software on Internal Storage

Hi,
My Galaxy J7 2017 is running Android 9. I need to root the device just so I can run an undelete software on it.
Is there a way this can be done without wiping the system?
Thanks,
Daniel
