Google play store - Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Questions & Answers

Does anyone know what the situation is with the Google play store? I believe they don't have it on Chinese phones.would it be on the global edition? Or would it be difficult to sort out if not? Thanks for any thoughts. I was thinking of trying this phone in the UK.

The play store is usually preloaded on the Global ROMs that Xiaomi makes. From what I know, the only phones that get global ROMs are the ones that are sold outside of China. Even though the Mi Note 2 has a "global" variant, it's not being sold outside of China by Xiaomi directly. So I doubt they'll have a global ROM with Google play.
It's easy to add Google play manually though. It works just fine for me on their Chinese ROMs.

Thanks very much for that information. Sounds good. I've never tried a Xiaomi device so didn't know how hard it would be to install if it wasn't preloaded. Out of interest, how do you enjoy the mui ROMs in general? Not as heavy as touchwiz I take it?!

MIUI is pretty much a complete UI overhaul buy I enjoy it a lot. I like to think it takes the best design elements from both Android and iOS and merge it into one beautiful experience.

The Mi Note 2 is listed as available in the U.S. on the Xaiomi USA site. It says it is the Global Edition, and that it does NOT come with Play store loaded. I'm not sure if that would be problematic, or if it can be loaded some how. I'd think any Android phone would have Play store ability.

You can side load it, it's fairly easy, or install a different ROM

Does themer app support nexus6p?

Hey guys, I am an iphone user looking to buy a new android phone and the nexus 6p is my current choice. However, i would really like to know if the themer app is supported on the nexus 6p( on their website it is stated that they do not support the nexus 6 which got me worrying). Can anyone confirm with me whether the app is supported on the 6p??
I used to be a huge supporter and user of Themer but earlier this year when the developers all but abandoned the app and their forms here on the website I gave it up.
From what I've seen they have never even officially supported the Nexus 6, so waiting for it to get supported for the Nexus 6 P may take longer than you're willing to wait.
I guess they have picked development backup of the app but don't answer any questions and I have heard that they aren't adding any new themes to the theme store but that you can go by designed ones elsewhere.
I am currently using Hola Launcher. Pretty nice, simple, lightweight.
Now, if you're really interested in trying it out on your Nexus 6 P it may actually work. It worked perfectly fine on the g3 before they made it "compatible". All you have to do is find an apk download of it and side load it on your device.
Nexus 6p has layers a different for of themes strait if off the box ....root and get layers manager from app store ... Get some layers and find which one you like

First of all thank you so much for your reply. I noticed you said to download apk and then sideload. Does that mean the app is no longer available on the playstore???

Xiaomi Mi Pad 3 owners thead

Got my Mi Pad 3 about a week ago. anybody else gotten it so far?

I get that FC too. Settings -> Battery -> Battery Use -> Screen, and it's over.
Side buttons are made of plastic and it's littly wobby - that's regular in middle ranged xiaomi phones anyway.
Anyway, good device. And I'm waiting for a RR Rom to flash.

A new ROM would be awesome. I'm not getting my hopes up on a Mediatek soc though lol.
Any developers declared a rom for us to flash yet? Miui is so annoyingly ugly.

no ROM yet besides china stable and developer. TWRP just appeared on the MIUI forums today though. sadly no touchscreen support as far as I can tell.
Try flashing one of the modified MIUI roms from one of the below:
Xiaomi.eu

Multirom
https://multirom.me/index.php?m=app&a=view&id=81&app=roms
I guess we all have to wait. A lineage package would be awesome.

The only bummer is investing in the Mi Pad 3. MediaTek chipset which hasn't had any support as of yet.

Well, the nvidia and intel chipsets in former mipads have been surely resurrected, and mediatek chipsets are also popular(at least in china) and enjoy a great many optimized roms maintained by xda developers. No matter how long it takes I will be waiting.

Allow me to put the nail in the coffin here. Intel Atom chips have only received love from KonstaT - his work on Cube Iwork8 Ultimate/Air + Chuwi tablets sporting the Atom chips e.g. - he is the main reason anything gets done for the Mi Pad 2 (check the credits )
The Nvidia chip is found in ... Shield Tablet which is still being supported and in other devices - still receiving love.
Quick search on the MT8176 chip. Couldn't find anything. And I know for a fact that KonstaT doesn't mess with MediaTek chips.
Obviously, I hope the best for the Mi Pad 3 owners, but it doesn't look too good right now. Mind you, I did suggest that you try flashing the Xiaomi.eu and/or Multirom.me's Mi Pad 3 MIUI rom. They both optimize the rom, so give it a go and tell us which is better.
Lastly, Chris from TechTablets isn't impressed and suggests the Mi Pad 2 and Ifive Mini 4S over the Mi Pad 3.

Hyy @Palm Trees
Why don't you join us on telegram group of MiPad 1
Since you have a MiPad 1 it will be useful for you also,
Here's the link https://t.me/mipad1
Hi, although I'm not expecting much development (if any) for this tablet and I know it won't be a hit in sales, I find it most interesting. Those specs are just fine for my needs.
Plus, Xiaomi has proven a brand with very high quality products and which you can trust (I've had a couple of phones, the 12.5" laptop and some other stuff from them and I love them).
So I couldn't resist and I have just ordered one. As long as there is Miui and it gets a couple of update, it's fine for me.
Anyway if any developer is motivated for some cooked roms, I'm sure a few of us will appreciate!

MAC address changes after wakeup from Wifi standby
I just received my MiPad 3 this weekend - a nice first impression regarding appearance and haptics,
BUT, I recognized that every time the Wifi wakes up from standby again, the MiPad comes up with a different MAC address! Not after reboot (observed on different MediaTek devices, e.g. Cubot X9), but on any Wifi reconnect after standby it reconnects with strange MAC addresses beginning with 00:00:00:aa:bb:cc - while in the "about the Phone" still the original MAC address is stated.
It seemes that this behaviour had been an issue for the MiPad 2 as well:

VERY disappointing at all!
Waiting for Wifi issue
I just got my Mi Pad 3 and it is installed with the China ROM 8.2.8.0(NCICNEB). I installed play store into it and it was working fine until play store got updated. Now it prompt need to update Play store and indicate waiting for Wifi. Anyone know how to solve this?

Ask at the xiaomi.eu forum or try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whenair.language&hl=en.
I don't own a Mi Pad 3 and never will. I have flashed xiaomi.eu roms before on two devices - all worked great.

I tried to register as a user at xiaomi.eu and kept getting an error message that my attempt to register was rejected because it "resembled automated or spam-like behavior. Please contact the administrator for further information or assistance." I tried 8 or 9 times before giving up. At any rate, I did download TWRP for the Mi Pad 3 and installed it. I then flashed the custom "weekly" room from 5-26 and all is good. It sort of took care of the region issue as settings no longer shows China.
Would really like to contribute at that site, but if it's that difficult to register - forget it. But thanks for the link. ?

ARCore officially released for Nexus 5X & 6P!!

During Google I/O 2018, Google officially released ARCore 1.2. With this version, they added compatibility with a wider (but still limited) range of devices. Most importantly, our Nexus 5X is listed as compatible ! You can check the full list of compatible devices here.
Caveat: the new version of ARCore is still being rolling out worldwide (i.e. might not show up on Google Play Store yet), but if you are impatient (like me ) you can download the latest APK from Google's GitHub repository (direct link to APK). APKMirror is listing the latest APK as well, but I haven't tested it.
Installation went smoothly, I also followed Google's instruction (link) to package the HelloAR app. And.... IT WORKS FLAWLESSLY! No lag, tracking is on point, it can detect surfaces located at different heights (i.e. separate the floor from a table), and it also has vertical planes' support!
Since I couldn't find the HelloAR APK that used the latest SDK, I compiled it myself in 5 mins. But if you are lazy, and don't want to follow the Getting Started guide, You can get the APK I got straight out of Unity from here, no changes made. However, I ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITIES IN CASE YOU BRICK YOUR OWN DEVICE. Since I never posted an APK before, you might think I could infect this APK with malware, and I understand that. If you don't want to trust me, go ahead and compile the app yourself: it's free, and will take you less than 10 mins :good:
Tell me what you think guys of this awesome news :highfive:
You can now download it from store! No more crazy hacking, yay!
What does this do? And would it be worth it to put on the 5x

This would basically add advanced augmented reality support to your device. For example, you can use an app to accurately measure the distance between two point using your phobe, or try Ikea furniture and see how they would look like in your room. It's excitirng because we believed Google wouldn't have added support for an "old" device such us Nexus 5X
Sounds good I'll add it

Thanks, it's awesome!!!
But how to have something different than the Android robot, must we create the samples with sdk or is there already some available models. Because on the show dated 8 months ago, there were playing with lot of objects.

You can create you own apps using the SDK, or you can try other apps such us ARuler, Ikea Place or Just a Line (these are the apps I tested, and work with this version of ARcore on Nexus 5X running Android Oreo 8.1).

thinking of buying a one plus device (9 Pro)

i have a qustion, for you one plus users..
im a pixel nexus user for a long time.
no pixel 5 xl this year. (BUMBER)
question is if i root the one plus device can i get all google apps . that i grown to love all these years. ????
i dont want to custom ROM . i could live with Oxygen OS
Yes, you can. And if you also root, you can get the Google dialer framework as well
Yes, a lot of google App's are included in stock os. The one's not included can be downloaded from the playstore...
Your thread says 9Pro, but this is the 8Pro.
I did not think there was a 9pro thread yet..
I was under the impression that some Google apps, are exclusive to pixel.
Like for example
Camera app.
Phone app.
Google assistant.
Calendar.
Digital well-being.
Live transcribe and sound notifications.
Just to name a few..
The phone and the camera app really are the only things that the oneplus doesn't have. The camera app is easily installed without root. I think for the phone app to work seamlessly, you'd need to root your phone.

XIAOMI SMARTPHONES CAN NO LONGER INSTALL GOOGLE SERVICES IN CHINA

Xiaomi has confirmed that smartphones that do not initially come with Google’s service platform can no longer install the company’s services and applications. Most devices in China do not support GMS because Google services are banned in the country. Xiaomi did not disclose the list of models affected by this policy change, however, Redmi K30 Ultra and Redmi 10X 5G users have confirmed that they are no longer able to install Google apps.

that is why we uses xiaomi.eu rom
Obviously this can't be good for Xiaomi's future android development.
Then again, supposedly over half of their revenue already comes from outside China. So I don't think they'll go down without a fight.
In other news, Huawei's Android alternative is apparently just a rebranded copy: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/02/harmonyos-hands-on-huaweis-android-killer-is-just-android/
What would be really good is if developments like this make Google develop Android as less of a walled garden. Not make everything dependent on google services framework, but develop the open source forks more.

It concerns phones that do not have their equivalent in other countries (with Google Mobile Services), those that exist only in China. Before it was possible to install google services on these phones now it will no longer be possible ( modification by Xiaomi).
