I was able to find a solution to re-activating the native hotspot feature on my Honor 8. Before, if I went to turn on my hotspot I was told I needed to activate the service from ATT, which I never had to do on my old Android device (perks of being on EMUI). The solution I used camefrom the Honor 5x forums found here.
This will require your device to be rooted. A tutorial for unlocking your bootloader, installing TWRP, and rooting for the Honor 8 can be found here.
Once rooted you will need to download a root explorer (file manager) that will allow you to access your system files. I used Root Explorer.
Go to System/App and then delete the ATTEntitle folder.
After rebooting your phone you should be able to use your native hotspot tethering!

Do you think it's region and/or mobile operator related?
I purchased my phone from Best Buy (USA) Unlocked. I use Cricket Wireless with an Unlimited Data plan, which was restricting my ability to tether. I believe that this would be for any Honor 8 due to due to their EMUI ROM.
Anyone else not have this issue? Coming from AOSP, I just want to help others get the feautes/control out of their phone they expect.

Some operators do block teetering while others say they do but in fact they don't.
At least from my experience.
I think this is carrier related. In the US there are differences in phones in different carriers in a single phone. Here in Asia we don't have that problem.

I wasn't able to make this work on L04 with StraightTalk on EMUI 5
Am I the only one having problem with this?
Doing this did enable my hotspot capability, but it made my call log stop working. I put the folder back and rebooted and it did make the call log work again but unfortunately leaving hotspot enabled before reboot did not leave it on when the phone came back on.

Is there any software that monitors our usage of tethering (snitching to AT&T for those of us without a tethering plan)? If so, what is it?
Software will prevent you from tethering without a tethering plan (or code to bypass those checks).
The only way AT&T knows if you are tethering is if they decide to investigate packet data. They can tell if the requests originated from your device or some other system (like a PC or tablet). AT&T will look deeper into your packet data if your usage raises a flag for them.
not my method, but ES file explorer will bypass checking your tethering provision and create a hotspot.
1. make sure you have WiFi off, the app won't do that automatically.
2. launch es file explorer.
3. press the menu button > tools > net manager > create a hotspot network.
4. enjoy.

This did not work for me at all. Wifi is off but the create a hotspot network is greyed out.

I had mine rooted but this didn't work either. I don't have ATT so that might be why... I would really like to use the hotspot and tethering in the stock menu but I guess I'll have to wait till there's custom roms out...

Follow the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2348261 then open noattched's app for his framework mod, under "Framework" I believe there is an option to enable WiFi tethering. This works on my S4 Active and was designed for use on the S4.

It didn't work with my T-Mobile SIM, it just kept saying invalid SIM and turning the hotspot back off. It's not that big of a deal, not enough for me to take the phone back anyway!
I really like the framework mod btw, so thanks for that!

1) disable "TetheringProvision" using AppQuarantine
2) Use EF File Explorer to enable a mobile hotspot
3) You still get an error message that settings stopped responding but the hotspot stays active.

Hey everyone, i've read through tons of threads and i know root isn't really fully implemented yet. My 6P is arriving today and i was hoping someone could assist with some light modifications.
1) Rooting:
- I am currently on a Nexus 6 running rooted stock marshmallow. It was a pain to get around the "red triangle" on boot. Will using Chainfires modified boot.img get rid of any of the "triangles" on boot?
- With SuperSU 2.52 beta, i had to do something funky by manually going into adb shell to allow r/w on the system. I have some messages saved, but those were fro the N6, not sure if it works the same way on the 6P
2) Does Chainfires boot.img un-encrypt the device? If not, how can i do this?
3) Enable Tethering: After manually adb shell i was able to modify build.prop to add one line of code to enable tethering.
4) TitaniumBackup: is this currently working with the root capabilites we have today? i currently use Google Authenticator & am unsure how to move the app data to a new device without rooting & using TiBu.
i know I'm asking for quite a bit here but i wont be home this weekend and want to take care of everything tonight and unfortunately wont have time to dig through the forums to find all these answers so im hoping one of the smart folks here can assist. If theres an easier way to do any of what i mentioned above please feel free to let me know.

What you need to do to get tethering on Nougat is root the device (temporarily at least), enable tethering and then (if you want) unroot it so that everything is back to normal and you can take OTA updates and use Android Pay without any issues.
All you’ll need to enable tethering on Android nougat is TWRP recovery installed on your device and the latest systemless SuperSU zip to root the device. (Always remember to backup your system just in case)
How to Enable Tethering on Android Nougat
Root your android running nougat

line to the bottom of build.prop file on your Android device. (Download Build Prop Editor from the play store if you don't know how to get to this, I suggest Rom toolbox as it has build.prop included as well as terminal emulator which you will need for the next step. LINKS BELOW)

exit
└ Grant root access to the app when asked.

Did you make sure u granted ROOT permission for the build prop and terminal apps? You also must restart in between the build prop and terminal commands. You also need busybox installed with root permission this was mist likely the reason it didn't stick. I've updated the OP along with links. Please let me know if that helps. Last note make sure everything is up to date.

I think I might have spoken too soon. Is this for the Virgin Mobile or Boost Mobile J700P? I have Virgin Mobile and I keep getting the "you have not subscribed to this service" window. It stayed on for a few minutes but the minute I went to go connect my smart TV to my hotspot, it turned it back off.

Did you make sure with build.prop you entered the net.provisioning line in "value" and not name? I'm using boost unlimited $50 plan but should work for virgin as well. Did you unroot? Are you using magisk or supersu?

I'm using SuperSU. Yes, everything as instructed. I was able to do it when I was still with Marshmallow (Using Sqlite editor) but after the update, I have not had any luck.

Hmm try using a vpn. Nordvpn is having a 7day free trial right now. Reset your network settings, repeat the steps above. Before you turn on the hotspot shield turn on the vpn and after connect try it. If you still get the notification then its something installed on your phone from VM that's monitoring your usage which is most likely. I recommend switching to boost. Their 50$ plan is pretty good. Great coverage in my area and surroundings. I use about 200-300gb torrenting and tethering a month and they don't seem to care. Using a vpn I get about 2mb down consistently except during peak hours. Anyways let me know about the vpn working or not. Hopefully it's that simple.

Thank you. I'm definitely going to switch. I don't know why I'm paying $60 for "Unlimited" data to use only with the phone and they expect me to pay an additional $10 for only 2 Gigs of hotspot. I hardly use any of my phone data. LOL. Maybe I need to check prices of wifi internet for the home if they even have it in my neck of the woods. Thank you so very much for all your time and help. Yea I hear you. My $50 plan comes with 8gb hotspot buti tend to go over that...WAY over that lol. Currently torrenting 8 pc games lol. Side note though on this plan. You get 23gb a month "prioritized" connection meaning full speeds always. After that your put on the back burner during peak times or in other words when your tower your connected to is busy. Doesn't happen often it seems and I live in the middle of a decent size city so if you're not in say Houston or new York I'd say you won't have anything to worry about. Did you type each line and hit enter(return) each time? Such as "su[enter]" starts another line "settings put global blah blah[enter]" it will start another line "exit[enter]" u may need to type exit again after this. I had to. So 2 "exit[enter]"
I used an alternative method I found here awhile back.. install APN backup and restore, convert it to a system app (important, use apps2sd or the like), backup your apns then edit the backup file, add ",dun" to each apn in the APN backup xml in the "type" field. Then go back into the APN backup app, delete apns and restore the backup you edited. There's a full write up here around the just forum somewhere with more details. It works great, may have to restore your APN backup if you update prl.

Does this method still work for you? Now when I use my WiFi after my 8gb limit it goes to boost homepage on connected device ?
Does this work on the j700t1.
I'm going to try it when I get home but I'm just curious if anyone got it working on the metro pcs variant.

Sorry if this has been answered but I'm using the XDA app traveling and can't seem to find it. I purchased the $50 Moto e4 boost version from Best buy and no matter what I do, I can't seem to permanently disable amazon apps.
I disable them and when I restart the device, low and behold they are back again. Is there a way to disable these apps permanently through ADB or some other jazz? Or should I just root?

Yeah, ya gotta root and delete them from the oem partition if you want them completely gone. But you should be able to disable them with adb without root.
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 "package name"
Without quotes and where package name is the actual package name.
Usually disabling them in settings/apps (show system) will disable them until you re enable them yourself.
Strangely I disable them and they re enable themselves upon boot up. Not sure why. Usually most phones you disable apps and they stay disabled. Clearly something is installed by boost that makes them reenable.

I have managed to disable via your method several apps except for three: boost zone, boost Mobile I'd and mobile installer. These are the apps causing the phone upon restart to redownload bloatware and enable disabled bloatware. When I try disabling them via adb, it simply says failure. Do disabling these require root?

Probably. It's mobile ID that changes the home screens around. It usually doesn't install anything except for home screen shortcuts. I wasnt able to disable that one without root. try using a different launcher ( I use nova). Zone let's you check for prl and profile updates, and I pay my bill in it (virgin mobile).

I followed a guide online and unlocked the boot, installed twrp and rooted the phone. Removed boosts pre installed Android version because no matter what tool I used I couldn't delete their apps. So I installed lineageOS. Having issues with 4G and can only get 3g.

Yeah that's a well documented problem on CDMA carriers. A few ppl are working on it. There is a sort of fix if you check the guides, news section.

Thank you. This is an annoying issue because I pay for 4g and hotspot support and unfortunately the hotspot only gets dialup speeds.

We all do dude.(pay for lte) But LTE is fairly broken on sprint and all it's mvno's (boost, virgin, etc.)on custom roms. You can try the fix but no guarantees. Only sure way is stock. I've debloated stock, and using Xposed with gravitybox. All the customization I need. And everything works. All bloat can be removed. Most of it is /oem, that's why root apps don't get rid of it. Some things in /system are required to keep it running.
Root the device, backup the apps with Titanium Backup, Freeze the apps and see if there are any behavioral issues with them, and remove them if freezing them doesn't yield error.

I plan on testing this with the rom you have on Boost Mobile as soon as it's done downloading.
Most of the Verizon updates have been buggy and this one seems to follow that model. And my phone is currently working passably well -- except for the new popups that want me to update.
I turned off automatic updates under developer options, but that has had no effect. The update was downloaded without my consent. I want to stop the nagging and delete or rename the update file.
I have two different file manager programs but neither of them seem to be able to see the system folder, even though I have enabled the "show hidden files" option. I thought I could perhaps suss out the name of the update package by sorting by date but I can't even find the folder for it. I've tried X-Plore File Manager and Solid Explorer Classic but neither seems to show me the system folder. I am not very familiar with Android but have worked with Linux and Windows systems in the past.
I find it infuriating that Verizon can force software onto a phone that I own. I have a pre-pay plan so it was purchased with a one-time payment and not bought from Verizon. I'm tired of their buggy updates.
Here is what I did,,,which you should be able to do as long as you can root.
1. Root your phone using the easy root/unroot option in the dev section
2. Go to the play store and buy Package Disabler Pro,,,well worth the 1.50
3. Once you give Package Disabler Pro root permission find the two software update apps in the list and disable them.
4. Go back to the easy root/unroot thread and follow the easy directions to unroot. This will also wipe your devices cache,,,which is where your downloaded update is probably residing now hence the update notifications. It wont wipe your device just the cache as part of the unroot process.
5. Once your unrooted, and back to stock, you can check like I did and see that the two software update apps are still disabled and no more update notifications.
The only thing different would be the app names for Verizon updates as I am running U firmware on my Verizon S7 Edge so there is not a lot of bloatware that I had to disable from the start. Here is a screenshot on my apps unrooted. They are still disabled thank God lol.
