does your clock reset of you take out the battery (with get network time unchecked) - LG V20 Questions & Answers

If I don't select to get the network time, my time is wrong when I take out the battery...

Sorry to dig this thread out.
YES IT DOES and IT'S STUPIDLY ANNOYING!!!.
Sorry for the CAPS, but I am beyond this. My phone is set to get the time through the network and I use 2 batteries that I charge on the cradle, I never charge the phone through its USB port unless really needed. I usually change my battery late at night as it holds a full day of work, so I am usually at home using airplane mode + home wifi, and every frigging time, it will reboot with the last known synchronised time AND DATE!!!!.. I also have a smartwatch connected and use it as a secure device to unlock my phone and because the bluetooth is ON by default as I reboot, it will mess with my smartwatch time/date, which in turns makes it forget fitness data on the current day.
After a few minutes over the wifi, the time will correct itself..
BUT it is very very very annoying. I had a few time already, the phone could sync the time, but my smartwatch remained unsync and my silent alarm was wrong.
Also, if the date was different and if I have an alarm set daily, it will go off (especially if the time sync takes too long to happen).
So... is there anyway to manually force the phone to synchronise the time, I could do that before I power it off. I tried to change the date and take the sync the time again, but it has been more or less successful. Does the network has to be on for this to work?
Is there a way to prevent the phone to turn on with the bluetooth on? (I think it's because it's looking for my watch)

Extremely Bad Battery Life on the XDAII when the PDA is off

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else is having the same problems.
When I go to bed I turn the PDA off. The phone is still on.
When I wake about 7 hours later I find the battery is at 60%.
What's the deal? I thought it was supposed to have 150 hour standby life.
I do find something else quite weird. When I turn the PDA off the screen turns off and it all seems fine. I have the button lock turned on so no other buttons will work. After a couple of minutes, if I move the volume slider up or down the PDA will beep. Then if I press any of the buttons such as "Record" "Camera" and "Calander" Nothign seems to happen.
But when I turn the PDA on the "Recoard" "Camera" and "Calander" applications will load.
It is kinda of like it isn't turning off the PDA at all.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong or how to fix it?
Thanks

if grps is only and bluetooth is on and maybe messenger and or icq is on it drain the batt
GPRS and Bluetooth are both on but GPRS is not connected. And Bluetooth is not connecting to anything.
I don't use messanger.
Would that still be draining the battery that much?

Cyeoh,
Unfortunately, I know exactly what you are going through. Your phone is entering a mode called 'resuming', it’s a low power state that does not turn on the display, etc, but will respond to hardkeys, volume slider, etc......
I'm guessing your XDA2 goes into 'resume' while trying to find a GSM signal, (are you in a weak area). This is my problem, you can read about it here...
http://www.pocketpcpassion.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38598
As a test, you should turn off the phone, (flight mode) for one night and compare the battery in the morning, (I'm willing to bet is almost the same as when you left it). Alternately install an app that monitors cpu usage, (like the one in the above link), and you probably will see a similar pattern to mine.
The registry solution does help, but causes problems with Bluetooth, (at least it did on my device, nothing a soft reset didn’t fix, but it was VERY annoying)….
If it is your GSM phone, you might want to try using another GSM SIM card from another provider, (maybe a friends) and see if you get better results. When I switched to a better provider I got an increase of 10% on the battery, (not great but something!)
Thank You very much.
That does answer a lot. I do have very bad reception at home. I guess this may mean I need to leave it charging over night. However I do find the XDA does charge very quickly which mean in the time it takes me to get ready for work it is back up to 93%.
I will put it into Flight mode tonight to see what happens.
It's still a little bit ****ty and it seems to be because of software. Hopefully they will fix it in the next ROM update.
Thanks
Cam
How did you go with your test last night cyeoh, did your battery last a little longer?
I'm intrested to know as when I charge my battery over night in the morning its still is not on 100% untill I do a soft reset or disable and enable flight mode then it pops up to 100% and stops charging... yet a nother feature of some software I've installed or the ROM version at the moment!!!

Wifi vs 3G

Hi All,
Another question from the Sony Ericson X1 newbie
When you're in your home, do you leave your WAP/GPRS/3G on all the time? or would you connect to your wifi? Is there a way for it to determine which is the best to go to?
The reason I ask is because im sat in my room, trying to download a panel, but it keeps losing the 3G connection. With the wifi, it wouldn't do this.
Plus I set my emails to check every 10 minutes, so obviously it won't be able to do this if it can't get a connection properly.
Thanks,
I believe you just answered your own question.
BUT
Yes, but, the 3G connection stays alive when the phone is sleeping and mail can check.
I have found while experimenting over the past 2 days that leaving wifi connected (even with the allow sleep mode wifi change in the registry via Advance Config) STILL doesn't let it auto receive my mail.
I have been using the Xperia on and off all day without turning the wifi off once, and hadnt received any mail, only to pick up my iphone to find that the exact same mail account synced had already received 8 emails. (Also using wifi)
This so far is the only thing hugely disappointing me with the Xperia and I may end up buying a data plan to fix it.
Okay, thank you.
And is there any way to disconnect the 3G once the Auto Send/Receive has completed? I just don't want it to drain my battery in the middle of the night and then my alarm won't wake me up in the morning haha.

As far as i know, it should disconnect itself or atleast go into a low power "sleep mode" when the phone is asleep. I wouldn't worry about it draining the battery. But don't quote me on that because I don't have a data plan.
My GPRS stays on 24/7, at night I don't have any send or receive and I put the phone in sleep mode (tapping the power key).
Never seen the battery drop more than 10% (and remember the phone only gives 10% intevals, so in reality it could be just 1 or 2%)

WIFI and 3g

Hi,
I just got the focus couple days ago and have a question:
when you use the WIFI connection (at my house for example), does the phone turn off the 3G? does it use both? how does it work?
3G still remains on/connected providing your carrier and phone support 3G. when wifi is on and connected, it takes over 3G connection for data till you disconnect wifi again.

Yes and no.
There's a bit of a design flaw in WP7 that is catching many users by surprise.
What you're saying is correct when you're using the phone. WiFi takes precedence over 3G for data.
But, and this is the surprise, when the phone goes to sleep (mine's set to the maximum of 5 min), it turns the WiFi off, meaning 3G takes over.
Many people learn this the hard way, because they'll start some large download and leave the phone alone. At some point, the phone goes to sleep (the display turns off, basically), which turns off the WiFi, and now your download is switched to complete via 3G. Many people are wondering on the various forums why they leave their phone (say overnight) thinking it's on WiFi, and wake up to a surprise data usage number on 3G.
If your wireless router has a status screen to monitor live connections (I use DD-WRT, which does), you can see this behavior for yourself.
It gets better! If you're a "normal" user who plugs in your WP7 to charge up the battery overnight, you'll notice you can't turn the phone off. So, without taking any specific action, you have absolutely positively no choice but to burn 3G usage during the time period that the phone's plugged in, but not in actual use.
The workaround, if you're really tight on data usage, is to turn off your cell/3G manually, or switch to Airplane Mode, or stick your phone in a lead-lined box (okay, maybe not lead, but you get the point).
Brad.
I am frustrated with this too. I wish there was a simple toggle switch, application , that would simply turn one of them on and the other off without going into settings everytime.
This is very interesting (and a little worrying). How can I check my data usage from the phone?
Data usage
Dial *3282# and hit call
A text will come in with usage.
I make a habit of turning 3G off unless I need it, just to avoid 3G being used over WiFi or apps auto updating.

correction:: When you plug in your phone for charging the wifi stays ON even during standby, so 3G data is not used during this period.
@pigue
"Dial *3282# and hit call
A text will come in with usage."
That didn't work for me... I'm in Canada on Rogers. Is the number different up north?
im having problem with my 3g data.brought in my phone to my service provider.they couldnt fix my data because they were looking for the proxy and port.but they can only the apn settings.pls need help.im paying for data and im not able to use it.

Thanks for that clarification. I spent a bit of time yesterday monitoring my WiFi connections and it appears as though you're quite correct, WiFi does stay on the phone's when plugged in. That's a tolerable workaround.
Pity none of this is actually documented, and we're all forced to figure this out for ourselves.

I read about this in the documentation for the wifi sync somewhere. Can't remember if was M$ documentation, though.

[Q] Data does not sync while hd2 is on stand by

I have setup the phone to sync weather for example every half an hour. If the phone is on stand by it does not sync. It is as if it turns off the data connection. Any help would be appreciated.
Any ideas? It will only sync when the phone is awake and unlocked? If the phone is locked it doesn't sync
Im surpriesed nobody can help with this!
You are certain it is only the weather that is not auto updating?

That is the only thing I have noticed so far.
No help at all? Basicily data does not sync at all when the phone is on stand by. It is as if the data connection disconnects. I cant seem to work out how to "keep it alive" Any help would be appreciated.
GhostXSeries, what activity do you expect from your phone in stand by (sleep) mode?
Sleep mode also called "standby mode" is an inactive state of the device that is quickly brought back into action by touching any keyboard key or pressing the on/off switch. It is used to save battery power.
In sleep mode the screen is turned off, all system processes are suspended (including data transfer), and the CPU is throttled down to its lowest power state - no activity. However, all instructions and data still reside in memory, and dynamic RAM memory chips require power to hold their content.
So what kinda sync do you want to have?

The main one I would like to have updated is the weather. I do not see the point of being able to set the weather to automticly update every half an hour if the phone does not do it while in stand by mode. If I turn the phone on and update maually it works fine. Is there any way to sort this?
My phone will automatically update itself if the set amount of time as passed while it was in standby mode. Meaning, if I set it to autoupdate every hour and I've had my phone in standby mode for 2 hours, when I wake it up, it will automatically sync the weather and any other data that should have been syncing during it's standby phase. Does your phone not do this as well?
There is also an app called "Screen Off" which will ONLY turn off the screen and not put your phone in stand by mode which means that all data and such will continue to function while your screen is off.
Oh and I was waiting on a definitive repsonse to the "only weather" question I asked. Obviously, just your weather not updating properly and ALL your data not updating properly are two very different problems.
I did not read the first post carefully. So you mean - the system timers do not work properly - they don't wake up your phone from standby for weather update?
I have mine set to do the same, but fo example for again the weather, I have it set to update every 1 hours, when I leave the phone on overnight and check it in the morning it does not update untill I press the manual update button.
Say I had the phone updated at 11pm and put it on stand by, check the phone at 8am the last update time was 11pm. It will stay at 11pm and only when I press the update button does it then update. It is not an overly big thing but I am under the impression that If I set the phone to update every hour even if it is on stand by or not the latest it should be behind is 59 minutes!

Tasker setting for battery saving

Hi,
I thought that I could use Tasker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...EsIm5ldC5kaW5nbGlzY2guYW5kcm9pZC50YXNrZXJtIl0.) to save battery life. So, what I did was to prepare the following profiles:
a) Disable autosync, enable it to 3 minutes every 30 minutes. Sync only between 6:30 and 23:05.
b) Enable autosync while on AC power, disable when not.
c) Disable wifi, enable it for 15 seconds every 15 minutes so the system would have time to connect to a known wifi if available. Then disable wifi unless its already connected.
d) When a wifi connection starts, do nothing. When it gets disconnected (like when I leave home), disable wifi.
I only use EDGE. I only sync gmail, contacts and calendar.
Before this, I had autosync and wifi on all the time so I believed this setting should conserve battery. Everything works, Tasker app itself is not draining much from the battery (according to Betterbatterystats its really negligible) but still, I have a considerably higher energy loss than with default setting.
Do you know whats the reason for this? Is is caused by the wifi enabling and disabling - taking more power? Is it caused by the fact all sync gets done at the same time? Or why is that?
Im generally happy with the Nexus S battery life but this outcome makes me curious ...
EDIT: My advanced wifi system setting always was "never disable wifi when screen is off". Also, for the purpose of this test, I disabled wifi AP on my router to check just for the outcome of the wifi search.
Check out your Awake time (can find this in BetterBatteryStats), you'll probably notice the phone stays awake for longer than it would normally. Normally the phone would go into a practically permanent "sleep" state, powering nothing but your radio, when the screen is off and doing nothing. It would just wake up every X minutes to autosync or for other alarms (exchange sync, etc) and then go back to sleep. I wouldn't be surprised if it is solely the wifi option.
Depending on the advanced setting in the wifi options, it keeps the connection indefinitely or drops it after a certain amount of time, i think around 15mins - 30 mins. This may need to be changed to fit the circumstances.
Overall though, benefiting from the use of Tasker or similar program for battery life purposes doesn't gain much over what android already does (albeit still with alot of room for improvement).
Well, I should've mentioned this: My advanced wifi system setting always was "never disable wifi when screen is off". So thats not possible reason.
Also, for the purpose of this test, I disabled wifi AP on my router to check just for the outcome of the wifi search.
I basically believed that before, the phone had wifi on and checked around every now and then. And with the new setting, it would check less often, therefore saving battery.
Awake time is about 40 minutes in 7 hours sleep.
EDIT: Maybe it would help to adjust the times better.
