[INDEX] [REPO] MOTO G - ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries [01/13/2014]

MOTO G
Total XDA Android Development Repository
Hello community! Welcome to the Repository of ROMs of the MOTO G Android Development Forum.
First of all, which ROMs are included here? Well, I just searched and chose the active threads (even if the ROM doesn't have any recent updates, the thread should at least remain active, with constant feedback from users and devs) but this isn't a must. But for no activity in the thread for at least two months will not be listed in the Index/Repository. Please remember, the most important thing is to read the thread of the ROM that you choose, take a look at the benefits, user reviews, bugs, FAQ, etc. and then, flash it.

Frequently Asked Questions -Motorola Droid 2 (Updated 2014)

Frequently Asked Questions
Motorola Droid 2
This a short list of frequently asked questions in this device forum and the answers often given as a response. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document. Do not post "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.
Q1: How can I tell if I have a Motorola Droid 2?
1. Check in the battery compartment, under battery, on the label, Model is in the middle of top line, the Droid 2 is model a955.2. In the software Menu>settings>about Phone>system version will include a955.Verizon.en.US3. Bootloader Version: Power Off>Hold both volume buttons> Bootloader Version is D2.37
Q2: What is the newest Stock Android Version and System Version?
Current Stock Android Version is 2.3.4 (Gingerbread).Current System Version is 4.5.621.a955.Verizon.en.US
Q3: Where are the Custom Bootloaders, Recoveries, and Kernels?
Because of the Locked bootloader, the stock bootloader and Stock recovery can not be replaced, no custom Kernels,
Q4: What is Rooting? How do I root?
Rooting gives you access to system files, that are restricted by default in android. Rooting Droid 2 running Gingerbread is easy using Framaroot. see [Video] “Super Easy Droid X, Droid 2 Rooting app
Q5: What is a Bootstrap and why do I need it?
Because of the locked bootloader a bootstrap is needed to install and access a custom recovery. SeeBootstrap explained[/URL] by Koushik Dutta (Koush) the Droid 2, X, & 3 bootstrap creator . Which version of bootstrap should I use? In most cases Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrapper CWM 5.0.2.0 is best option. see [Kitkat] CM11 Android 4.4 for the Droid X
Q6: How do I restore the stock rom?
IF phone can be booted to bootloader and battery has enough charge, Stock Firmware(SBF) should be able to be re-flashed as long as the is no hardware failure. There are 3 methods to flash SBF/Firmware.1. RSD Lite (Windows only) see my page Using RSD Lite to flash a .SBF to restore (Stock Rom)2. ezSBF bootable CD or usb flash drive (Windows/Linux/Mac) D2 ezSBF & Root 2.3.4/4.5.6213. sbf_flash (LInux/Mac) see http://blog.opticaldelusion.org/search/label/sbf_flashDroid 2 Firmware/SBFs

Q7: What is the Best Rom?

Best/most stable ROM threads aren't allowed as they're too subjective, you'll receive lots of differing opinions on the same thing. Only way is to try yourself and find the one that fits you best as that's what these forums are about.

Motorola official kernel source available

Hi developers,
A happy news for all of you.. Motorola have officially announced the kernel source of our moto g 2nd Gen.
Motorola is offering the initial kernels for the Moto X
2014 (codenamed "Victara") and the Moto G 2014
(codenamed "Titan") as both a standard browsable
Github and a downloadable ZIP or TAR file. Check the
source below for the individual links. Motorola should
post updated versions if and when new software is
released, and the Android 5.0 update will certainly need
a new kernel.
For more details, check below link :
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...-for-the-second-generation-moto-x-and-moto-g/
It's a 7 days old news now. Also this is already posted here and also here (closed)
And there is one custom kernel released also

By the way if it is not clear to newbies, if you are fortunate enough to get a phone with SU4.21 instead of SU6-x, do NOT, I repeat do NOT flash VZW-4.4.4-SU6-7-release-keys.xml
Because then you are taking a valuable phone that can unlock the bootloader and forcing it to upgrade and it can never be downgraded again to SU4 from SU6
ie. the SU6 cannot unlock bootloader at this time, the SU4 can via sunshine
you CAN root the SU4 but it is using a different file than in this thread

MUST INCLUDE QUALCOMM or MEDIATEK TO COMMENTS OR THREAD TITLE

* * * ATTENTION MOTO E4 USERS * * *
Since the Moto E4 has TWO variants (Qualcomm and Mediatek) PLEASE include YOUR variant in the title of your thread or mention your variant in
your comment to reduce confusion within the threads. Here are a few examples:
Comment Examples: I can no longer open photos on my Mediatek device running latest build" or "Can I install Xposed on my Qualcomm Moto E4?"
Thread Examples: "I need help figuring out why my Qualcomm Moto E4 won't boot up." or "Where can I find the latest GApps and Viper Audio links for my
Mediatek Moto E4?"
Qualcomm variants have THEIR OWN Development section. Please ONLY post Qualcomm variant threads and comments in this section. (adding variant to comment or thread title not required in Development section)
Mediatek variants have THEIR OWN Development section. Please ONLY post Mediatek variant threads and comments in this section. (adding variant to comment or thread title not required in Development section)
BOTH variants share ALL other Moto E4 sections, which is why adding Qualcomm or Mediatek is so important.
To increase the visibility, chance of receiving an answer, or response to your thread or post, you can also add these tags; [QUALCOMM] or [MEDIATEK]
Please follow the above instructions to remain compliant with Forum Rules:
"2. Post using a clear and descriptive subject and message."
Following this will GREATLY REDUCE the confusion within the threads due to the differences in the Qualcomm / Mediatek variants.
Thank you.
Device Description -
Name: Moto E (4) - Nick is Perry
Board: msm8937
Variant: Qualcomm
Android: 7.1.1 Nougat
Bootloader: 0xBA09
Carrier: Metro PCS
Quad Core Processor
Hope that's enough device info for some help.
Ok so currently my bootloader is locked and is currently running on the stock Metro PCS ROM. I came to XDA for my device because every where I look you have people who use the dirty methods of rooting which aren't very reliable. Aka (KingRoot and KingoRoot). I've tried both and they don't work.
So at this point I know you can't Root this phone with the latest one click Root methods. So now I'm looking for the manual ADB/Fastboot method to unlock the bootloader and install any available and working custom recovery such as TWRP or Philz. Then with that flashed I can Root using SuperSU flashable zip.
After that I can work on making a ROM that is DeBloated and DeOdexed, and maybe add some custom mods. Also removing Metro PCS's custom boot animation will happen it adds too much time too the bootup. But this project will have too be a thing of the future as someone needs too upload the files for unlocking this device and recovery.
Hope some of this information will help inspire more work done on this phone.
I made an entire guide in rooting the stock Qualcomm version man, its in my signature, I'm on metro and I'm rooted, have twrp, and I'm running a custom aosip rom. The search bar is your best friend.

It's all been done bro. Search the forum. Root method, custom ROMs, all there. Root with magisk or phh ,(SuperSU gives issues.) And philz recovery has been dead a loooong time. This is a fairly new device, use TWRP.

I already new Philz is dead but some people still use it. I'm 15. Do you know where I can find the Root method? And I'm going to do some of my own research on magisk and phh. Thank you for the reply. Also I'm going to start a new thread I'll post it when I'm finished.

Settings/About phone. Perry is Qualcomm, woods is mediatek
Thank you! It says Perry!
Is there any info detailing other differences between the two variants? I bought a charge board for mine on ebay and either I was sold the wrong board, of the boards are different between variants.
