Rooting - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hello,
I was just wondering if someone could help me with regards to rooting my S7 Edge? I have just returned to Samsung after being with the Nexus 6p for a year (Google screwed over the nexus users with the pixel - hence my return to Samsung)
I tried to root earlier but got a bootloader exception error - it appears Samsung devices aren't as easy to root as they were in yesteryear! Could someone tell me how i go about rooting, flashing TWRP and possibly flashing a custom rom? I would research but all the threads i come across are for the Exynos variant of the S7 Edge. For the record, i have the UK Snapdragon version - SM-G935F.
Any help would be massively helpful.
Best Regards,
Speedy!:laugh::laugh::laugh:

no, i believe all snap dragons are the same. but just make a back up to be on the safe side.

Hi,
The 935F is actually the Exynos variant, download CPU-Z to check it. So, following any Exynos tutorial would be of good use for you .

Hi,
That's the problem, he says his device is SM-935F, however that device has an Exynos processor. Either he confused the processor in his device or he said the wrong model version.

Hi,
Since the Snapdragon version is limited to the US market (mostly under carriers) and the Chinese market I believe there are more custom ROM, kernels, etc in the Exynos model. However that's not to say the development is huge, since the Exynos processor has a very bad documentation and source code releasing.
You can check the development and general threads for more information on rooting and customizing your experience .
Happy flashing,
~Lord

I can see in your signature you have the G935F, that's the exynos version, but just check cpuz to be sure, if yes that's the best version anyways Bootloader unlock is available to exynos but not snapdragon, there are a lot of custom roms and even kernels, but don't expect CM or any CM/AOSP Based rom, sadly, since it's exynos, you will only find Touchwiz based roms

Is there a root package for S7 edge Qualcomm 820 CPU version

this is my first time using Samsung smartphone. Just wondering if the root for Qualcomm version is out or not, or maybe I'm entering the wrong channel?

Port Request..S7e 6.0.1 rom for i9500.

Hello guys so I already posted about this and didn't find anyone who was willing to port the rom to i9500..
It was already released on i9506 development section
It is called:
[ROM-6.0.1][DarkWolf_FW][Galaxy S7 Edge Port][V2]
If it was ported to i9506 then it can be ported to i9500
So I am waiting for anyone who is willing to help i9500
Because there is not any tw based mm Rom for i9500
Thanks in advance.and I hope there are people who want to help ?????
The GT-I9506 is closer to the S7 than the GT-I9500, that's why it has ports.
GT-I9506 Snapdragon 800 chip, S7 Snapdragon 820 chip.
They are in the same ball park.
The GT-I9500 is Exynos based.
There also is a Exynos based S7 model, but the GT-I9500 and S7 are too far apart to make porting it easy, I guess.
Don't you think somebody would have ported the S7 ROMs to the GT-I9505 and GT-I9500 if it were possible?
i dnt think thats the issue
the main issue which the developers tell us is that the s7 framework and system cant be ported because there is no mm rom provided by samsung for our device
however there was no rom for i9506 as well but it still got ported

I heard that a S5 stock MM firmware has successfully been ported to i9506 so why it's possible to fully port S7 frameworks and system using the ported MM firmware from S5.
I think there's a developer in i9500 who is working on porting S7 apps and frameworks for this device. But I don't sure that everything is 100 percent ported, though.

The issue is that Exynos is not developer friendly, and there are few developers left working on the I9500 in this forum. They've either given up completely out of frustration or have moved on to more developer-friendly devices.

Yep, it's one of the reason. But, that makes it worse, that most i9500 users are spamming most threads with posts like waiting or similar or ETA asking when a dev announced that he would release a new update. Thus, caused the dev canceled the update, ask moderators to close the thread, and leave the development.

But a friend of mine said if it was ported to an s4 then it can be ported to all s4 variants and it's hard but still possible?
Also no one tried overwriting over aosp
Guys it's possible yet no one even tries. that's what makes me sad
Porting Android 6.x to Exynos is more complicated than your friend probably realizes. The binaries need to be built specifically for Exynos. This is a problem because the sources for the Exynos processor are incomplete. Without all the source code, you're not building anything for Exynos except stock-based ROMs.
Building for Qualcomm is far easier. They provide all their sources, and there are Android 6.x ROMS available, whether Cyanogenmod-based or AOSP-based. They also tend to work better than Exynos because of this.
But there is android 6.0 for i9500,whether cm 13 or aosp. Both do exist for i9500. so why not port the apps and the tw not specifically the entire rom
Also there is an exynos version of the s6 and s7.
Also it will be possible to port the s6 mm exynos update to s4..

S4 has many variants, different models, and different SoCs. And, it's nearly impossible to port from devices with different SoCs...

GearCM 13.0 needs more than 6 months to get itself to stable version, with kernel rework and it's hard without complete codes, man.

Porting ROMs are harder than maintaining a CM-based ROM, man. Even the best TW developer on i9500 is unable to port MM to i9500 because it needs MM bootloader, which can't be ported easily.

Unless you have one from hong Kong (you don't), it's not possible. Bootloader is locked.
Root yes, twrp no.
It's really a shame that Qualcomm's secure boot actually lives up to its name in Qualcomm's latest bootloaders! That's the US Snapdragon S8/S8+ problem. All the international S8/S8+ people get to enjoy their TWRP and custom kernels, etc., but not the US.... Such a shame. https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/carrier-to-samsung-publish-bootloader-t3667125

Short answer.
No, no, yes.
Longer answer.
The S7 edge has a locked bootloader so getting another OS is not possible as with just about all the Samsung phones.
No need to get another phone as there is a way to root your phone with the eng.img way. I am not that familar with the Exynos phones, but I have seen more choices for those than with the Qualcomm phones.
If you don't want to root your phone, you can install the U version of the OS to get rid of the bloatware.
Hope this helps.

SM-G9880 & SM-G9810 HK\CH\Taiwan Snapdragon Root

Hello All,
TO be crystal clear, this is for HK\China\Taiwan version of the device. Snapdragon bootloader unlockable.
I bought both these phones and was able to root successfully.
Following all the other guides, unlock bootloader etc. you extract the boot image, change to tar, patch it with magisk, flash in Odin via AP, boot immediately in recovery, factory reset, and voila, boot up and you are good to go.
I'm using the S20U with T-Mo and the S20 with ATT
I fandangled these instructions in the OP here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s20-plus/development/howto-root-phone-s20-t4067649
Got FW from here
https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-G9880 and
https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-G9810
Edit: I imagine this works with S20+ too
So now I have a couple of questions actually.
Given that i'm a US user, can i flash t-mo CSC ? or the NA unlocked FW?
What's safe to debloat?
I do'nt know how to build kernels, but if anyone is interested, i'll be their guinea pig.

Possible you write the guide for rooting s20U snap ?

Unfortunately cannot be shipped to Portugal
I have several questions
First off for those using swift installer you must apply the high contrast theme on theme store in galaxy apps, then you can use swift installer after a reboot.
Where is caller ID settings like i had on my pixel 3 xl in terms of screening etc.
Also, do i need to flash a t-mobile CSC ?
I have wifi calling VoLTE but unsure if i'm getting the "best speeds" per se
i'm unable to access *#2263# either, does nothing..

g988n I believe is Exynos which is not favored.
if we're already importing from online, might as well go for SD, assuming it will be rootable
