New to Android. Need some help. Please! 7.1.1 - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone. I recently switched from Iphone to Android and I am loving it so far. Bought the nexus 6p Gold over a week ago.
I am having problems with the the microphone. When I talk to someone is seems like they hear me very bad, like I am inside a submarine or very far away from the phone, which is odd because I was just holding the phone the normal way. I tested the mic on a recording app and I can hear myself very clearly. I have re searched and seems like a lot of people had/have this problem. I read something about the noise canceling thing on the back being an issue. And the best result would be to disable it. persist.audio.fluence.voicecall = put this to false or something. Anyways I was wondering if anyone can guide me through the steps on achieving this. I am running N 7.1.1, I currently have pixel launcher(loving it). I just want a simple root to get the mic working right on calls. I like the speed and design of the pixel launcher and would love to keep that and if I can get google assistant, even better if not its okay, I just want to use my phone to call people and for them to be able to hear me clearly... THANKS IN ADVANCE

I haven't had any issues with my mic but I assume you want to edit the build prop. I would use the Nexus Root Toolkit http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/ and Wug has a buid prop edit tool that I like and root is not needed. If you have root on 7.0 then get a build prop tool from the app store. I would hold off on getting 7.1.1 for now. I know it's tempting but this is release 1 and I'v been seeing several issue threads and it's best let the pros work out the bugs. It won't take long before you see a full step guide for 7.1.1. Be Patient

This is a hardware problem. Exchange it ASAP.

Do you have a case or screen protector? Was it like this when you 1st got it? Did you put 7.1 on it or did it come that way? If it was me I would; take off any case or screen protector, do a clean wipe, then grab the factory 7.1, https://developer.android.com/preview/download.html and try that, no TWRP or root yet. If its still an issue, like @therock3181 said, I would think its a hardware prob.

Thanks for the reply. The phone is already in 7.1.1. Any way to downgrade? Whats your suggestion?

I don't have a screen protector. I got it on 7. On 6 it was working fine apparently, according to previous owner. Right now it is on 7.1.1. The weird this is that every voice recording app, or like messenger that i use to send voice messages works great its just in calls.

Hello. It is asking me for the current build that I am running. I don't see 7.1.1. what should I select?
Since you said to flash 7.0, I am assuming I select 7.0 Build from the list? There are 4 different 7.0 builds. Let me know
Thanks

Okay, So I was reading the options to flash stock/unroot and it says I need to be unlocked first in order to run that script. Help?

Alright, I figured out a way to go back to 7.0. I left the Android beta program and It gave me a 7.0 N download to go back. Now I am on 7.0. What do I do from here?

Verizon website listed this...see below
Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update for your device. This software update has been tested to optimize device performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches.
Software Version: MMB29M.N910VVRU2CPF3
The current software update gives you the most up to date Androidâ„¢ security patch on your device.
Receiving this update now, its automatic and I can't seem to stop it easily.
I'll report what I find. I unrooted and went default yesterday, on retail 6.0.1. Gonna sell my note and get Google Fi soon.

Can you try to downgrade after you update and see if it'll downgrade? Thanks. Its ok if you're not interested in all that hassle.

Nothing visible has changed, no new apps. No new settings. June 1st security patch which may be different. I'll maybe try to downgrade tomorrow.

I already checked it. Downgrade safe.
I haven't found a tutorial on downgrading to 5.1.1 from 6.0.1. Is there a safe way to do it?

Not sure what you mean by "safe" but typically you just use Odin to flash full stock 5.1.1, do a factory reset in stock recovery afterwards and you're done.

I'm guessing its just a June security patch.
I'm impressed Verizon is actually trying to keep up with the security updates on this device. BUT, i dont think they have a choice because this device is probably more used then the Note5 .
Anyone tried this update while being rooted?

Seems to have fixed some lag, heat , and battery drain issues I was having. Auto brightness is still borked. Still have to turn the brightness down manually in a dark room, and up to max outside.

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews of Google Fi. Which phone are you going to go with? I've thought about replacing my Note 4 DE with the Moto X Pure when they run it on sale again (was $319 a few days ago). But the Droid Z Force also looks nice.
Made my battery worse! A little less lag though....so got that goin for me!!! Lol

Not really the place to discuss it so I'll keep it brief.
My girlfriend has a Nexus 5X. The phone is amazing, updates are quick and common. It operates perfectly on marshmallow with no noticeable issues. We live in bum**** and she still gets service wifi calling and texting is fine, and no contracts. We pay about 42 a month for hers with insurance.
Well one thing I noticed (not sure if it was this update or the last one) is that when you pick an application to use (like browser) it becomes the default. With the old OS it would ask you to use just once or make it the default. Arrgggg I prefer to pick the application as needed and not make it the actual default.

The MM update made this change to default app handling. I liked the old way too. Now if I want to change the default app I have to remember which app was set as default before I can make the change. Sometimes remembering which app was set as default isn't easy to do.
Deleted. Think was in wrong thread.
Been a long time sense I've posted anything in this forum.
I just went back to the Note 4 and did the MM update and have noticed a heavy draw on the battery compared to LP. Am wondering if letting it did cycle through a few time might correct the battery drain. Was on an iPhone for awhile, but for personal reasons came back android. Has anybody tried that yet. Have been temped to hard reset and start fresh to see if it fixes it.
This update has increased the battery draw on mine and it is running HOT! Need help.

Looks like the AT&T Tab S2 now supports NumberSync. Can someone post the AT&T Marshmallow ROM? I'd like to install it on my international SM-T815, and see if I can get calls to work. Also, the AT&T ROM should allow the Samsung Gear app to work.

You neither could nor would want to install the att firmware on your device.
If it could and you somehow managed to flash the bootloader you would end up with a locked device forever.
Flashing the system.img is possible, but why when the MM software is already available for your device?

Like I said:
1. I would like to use the Numbersync feature so I can share the same phone number across all my devices.
2. I would like to install the Samsung Gear app from the PlayStore so I can pair the tablet with my watch.
Instead of messing with the SM-T817A ROM, I'll probably just pick up a tablet from AT&T.

So if I have the Sm-t817a tablet will I eventually get the MM update? I bought it off Craigslist the other day and didn't care about the LTE but it was perfect condition 9.7" for $300 . I don't really care about rooting it or anything and it sounds like I'd be screwed anyway if I was bit I have my Nexus devices for that.

So, How did it go? I got the update a couple of days after you and everything is perfect except for the keyboard. Very Often, while I am typing, the system inserts spaces and misses characters etc. It can be a real pain in the a$$ to type on the tablet now.
Well, here we are, 17 days later; and the typing problem is Long Gone. Weird... But, Good !!
BTW
I performed a factory reset before and after upgrading just to be safe.

I finally got the update. I didn't have my AT&T sim in the tablet anymore. As soon as I put the AT&T sim back in and checked for the update, it pushed out. Not sure if this will affect anyone else or not.
won't find the update
I've tried doing the update OTA and it hasn't found it yet.
I've tried to do it through KIES and it says that this device is supported by Smartswitch and won't let me do it that way.
I want to do it through Odin, but I cannot find the update file.
Does anyone have a link or copy of the rom so I can get mine updated?
Thanks!
After talking with AT&T, the only way to update this tablet without AT&T service is to go to Best Buy and have them push it for you manually. Alternatively, you can call Samsung @800 726 7864 and they have a way to push it from the cloud or something.
Yes, old thread, but this tablet is STILL the bomb and many people are buying them used off of eBay only to find the last owner never bothered to update to Marshmallow.

I was in the market for a new e-reader (OG Nook Book just wasn't cutting it any longer). Ended up with a Tab 2, but the Nook version due to the additional $50 discount. Was surprised it came with MM, but now I'm trying to figure out how I can get Nougat on it. This tablet really is the bomb!

miracast not working on Nougat

I am not able to mirror my phone's screen to a Samsung smart TV. I have enabled wireless display by adding that line to build.prop
It just doesn't connect.
It worked normally on marshmallow

Not working for me either. I cast to my appradio 3 and this was the last thing I set up on my phone. I'm quite sad at this and will end up going back to MM because of it
I'm a new 6P user and very disappointed that Miracast was removed from the 6p, had I known, I would have investigated other device more thoroughly. I was a previous Moto X Pure Edition user, but that screen was destroyed in a drop accident. If anyone can figure this out, I'd be willing to donate some coin in their direction...

Can I get Google Assistant without root?

I tried out this guide for Marshmallow to get Google Assistant on my phone, but it looks like something's changed signature-wise in Nougat, because I get this error when I try to install the modded APK:
Code:
adb install -r Google/dist/Google.apk
3531 KB/s (48690418 bytes in 13.462s)
Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES: Failed to collect certificates from /data/app/vmdl1063868361.tmp/base.apk: META-INF/CERT.SF indicates /data/app/vmdl1063868361.tmp/base.apk is signed using APK Signature Scheme v2, but no such signature was found. Signature stripped?]
I can't find a way to get around that, and I'm hoping maybe there's another method to get Google Assistant on my phone without root.
I have the H918, so I can root, but I'm going to be busy with school for the next few weeks, so I don't really want to wipe and risk bricking because I have to rush the process.

It's better than Siri in everything I've compared, and it's fun to use too. I enjoy it a lot on my Note 4. Is this signature verification a new thing in Nougat, since the steps seem to work fine under Marshmallow?

No, I installed the Assistant Enabler Xposed module on my Note 4. I know that they're different, and I know what the differences are.
And please stop saying it's garbage. I've used it. It works well. It does what it says it does. It has fun games, and I enjoy using it. You may not think it's worth installing, but that doesn't mean it's low quality.

Why do you hate it so much? Give me some real reasons instead of "it's bad." Allo doesn't include the games or the functionality. I'm pretty sure I mentioned that I'm holding off on rooting for now, so that's not gonna work.

The thread I was following indicates otherwise. I was looking for some troubleshooting possibilities or an explanation, not a deprecation of what I enjoy using.
Well, let me put it this way.... no.
The only way I know to get it is to edit the build.prop to spoof a Pixel. That, of course, requires root. It'll also break things that are LG dependent.
In the XDA newsfeed, there have been reports that some phones are not behaving well with the mod. Those same feeds report most of what you can achieve with Assistant can be done with Google Now and Allo. I can understand someone's desire to go for those things that can't be done with either Now or Allo.
For me, it doesn't yet pass the cost/benefit test. I'm keeping an eye on things, hoping a dev can incorporate Assistant within the stock ROM without losing the LG stuff. Maybe then I'll step up to the plate.

Well I know it's possible to do. hsbadr made Google Assistant the default on CM14.1 for the Note 4, without build.prop edits. It's also possible with the Xposed module (so once we get Xposed on Nougat, it'll be simple). It's also apparently possible with the guide I've been trying to follow, but it looks like that needs root too on Nougat for some reason.

Can't do that. The hack says to copy the META-INF folder from the old APK into the new one. Resigning just gives me the different signature error.

Thanks for taking the time
(I've reached my thanks limit apparently...)
Yes it's possible to add google assistant without root to LG V20.
https://beebom.com/how-enable-google-assistant-any-android-no-root/
or
http://www.xiaomitoday.com/get-google-assistant-on-marshmallow/
By now I read that google assistant is only available in USA and Germany.

OxygenOs broke android auto

Since the oxygenos 9.0.10 update android auto won't work as usual.
Waze hangs. Music apps are not reachable.
Homescreen works, google assistant works also.
Updating to 9.0.11 brings no solution.
Anyone else facing the same issues?
Greetings and happy holidays!
Have you tried clearing AA cache? How about uninstalling and reinstalling?

Yes.
There is a thread posted on XDA for same issue.
I got in touch with OnePlus, the asked for logs and I provided.
Looks like they have forgotten about the issue.
Some crazy guy on OP forums suggested me to get in touch with Google for them to fix Android Auto and Waze.
Try posting in OP forum with nasty language. Hopefully someone from customer support will get in touch with you.
My phone is in Service Center for camera stopped working issue, so I can't provide them with any logs again.

Unroot your phone and go back to stock.
No doubt you have installed the wrong update..
i.e. Not compatible for your area.
No one else has this problem so it must be something you've done either not rooted fully/properly or used a VPN to get the update which isn't for your region.

I think, It has nothing to do with Root or using VPN to update.
I have this problem from day 1, 100% stock, not root or whatever. Starting with 9.0.6 and had till 9.0.10 when my camera stopped working. The phone is sitting with OP Service in RMA.

Ask for your money back or a brand new phone then...and why post on here if the phone is in for repair?

Because you were trying to mislead the other user.
I just corrected you by saying that it has nothing to do with root or using VPN.
You know that the OTA is same across the globe unless you have T-Mobile version or maybe McLaren version.
Things have to be corrected. Especially on OnePlus device threads.

It's a bad root
"it's a bad root" ..... Really.. make sure that apps are not be optimized(battery) I ran into issues with my VPN (openvpn) because it was being optimized. Seems like op is being very aggressive with battery optimizing (explains great battery life).
My phone is rooted and has been on multiple firmwares since launch date. No issue with android auto.

I think a safetynet fail check may be the cause.
Fixed safetynet and now android auto works.
Coincidence? I don't now.
Well have to wait now.
Works fine for me, been using it for years and now with the 6T I was having issues but I remembered I changed my devices dpi, once I changed that AA functions normally as it did with previous devices.
