Google Assistant - Moto Z Force Questions & Answers

So, when we get to upgrade to Android 7.0/1, can I edit build.prop, change it to think that my phone is a Pixel, and still be able to use Moto Mods and the Moto app (Chop chop, Twist, etc.) and it work fine? Or will it change everything and not even know what a Moto Mod is?

You can't just change the name of the phone in build.prop to magically make it have proprietary features of another phone...

The Nexus devices could just have a build prop edit to let them use Pixel features... This is where his comment is coming from.
As for OP, noone will know until we have nougat... And root access.

As reference for curious people
So yeah, unless you have root to modify your build.prop, pretty unplausible we'll ever see this come our way.

If we got root access we could probably get assistant working with xposed.

How likely is root with a Verizon droid device that probably isn't in the hands of many developers?

I'd think unlikely unless the Sunshine guys decide to have a go.

I agree, but it doesn't bother me since I figured that before I bought it.

See comment 151. I wonder why you need a lot of RAM for that. So I guess only the Nexus One and the Milestone and the future high end Android phones will be able to display animated gif.

5.0.6? And in the browser?
Does it support only in the browser? Or will it support it in the gallery too.
I always get those neat forwards...but they always show up as a video and it kind of sucks

The changelog for Cyanogen rom is here: http://github.com/cyanogen/android_vendor_cyanogen/blob/eclair/CHANGELOG
Looks like he took Google's source and added it to the browser, but it doesn't say anything about animated .gifs in mms's

Oh well i just remember I came from Cricket and a samsung messenger (I didn't need a smartphone back then) and it always looped the gif, and played it in the gallery. I kind of miss that lol.
They work perfectly in the browser. Don't know about just normal gallery..

I know, but there is really no negative effect other than voiding your warranty. Well, at least in my eyes. Cyanogen is a very trustworthy ROM distributor..

Amen. I rooted my g1 but I just don't want to anymore. Plus I feel like I shouldn't have to. Google should take care of us, and I'm sure they will I just wish they'd throw us a bone

I rooted day one.
I will likely never run another rom other then the one from Google.
I played the whole rom game on Windows Mobile and it never made me happy.
I'm not doing it with my beautiful Nexus One

Then you shouldn't expect the updates at the same rate rooted owners get them, you get major updates fast compared to the likes of iPhone OS and Web OSs

[Q] Should i root?

i've had the atrix for a few weeks now, and been thinking about rooting for a while cause i pretty much root every android phone i get, but i'm tryna see if it's worth it right now or should i wait until the bootloader gets unlocked. I mean i'm VERY satisfied with the phone, just wanted to know if i should wait or not.
sorry if this question was already asked, i didn't see it in this section......

If you've rooted before you know the benefits. At any rate, use aRoot from designgears. He has an uninstall script if you ever need to use one to go back. I would root anyway. Plus the few custom "ROM"s we have are excellent to say the least.

What are you looking to do? It really depends on that. If you like the stock look use adeo v.02 by DG. If you want a gingerbread-ish theme with all the goodies there, use GingerBlur. I also hear he's working on a HoneyBlur that will have the Honeycomb theme.

i'm really looking for a rom that has a lot of customization features added, something like cm7, i kno that these roms are probably in beta so i'm not gonna be picky, i appreciate everything that the devs are doing towards making this device the best in the market(which it already is lol), i can't wait til they crack the bootloader!

[Q] i don't know if i can root

i want to root my evo 4g, i have updated the software version to 4.24.651.1, the android version is 2.3.3, i see in the threads about ota's and other stuff that i have no knowledge of yet as i've never done this before, is there a thread explaining all of this and can i root with the new software update? or can i go back to old version of software? thank you anybody and all who help, i appreciate it.
Until HTC unlocks the bootloader, or someone finds an exploit, if you're s-on...you're out of luck...for now.
That sux, i was really looking forward to trying it out. Thank You Mattykinsx.

Have no fear, root will come one way or another.
It always does, for HTC phones anyway.
Is anyone actively working on it? I'm sure someone must be. And if so, how close are they? Wife wants her phone rooted, but it's updated to the latest. Unfortunately we didn't know beforehand that it would be a bad move.

this mod needs root access and a build.prop editor.
after you have these things open the editor and navigate to ro.build.version.release this is the android version label
here you can change it to whatever you want, like i don't know mabey android 4.2.1 haha
or anything else you want even names or words...

(please note that this does not actually change the version of the OS it just says it does here's a screen shot of my phone in the attachment)

Seriously though, I did a similar mod to this to my iPhone 3G a few years ago which allowed me to install iOS 4 apps on iOS 3.2 or whatever it was at the time!

Multi-Window in the works!!???

Hey all,
Saw this post on Reddit. This would awesome and make the N6/9 experience that much better....If its true of course. Thoughts?
http://www.reddit.com/r/nexus6/comments/2mqcpl/regarding_multiwindow_feature_for_the_nexus_6/
i believe you can use the xposed module multiwindow feature if you root your device.
There's no xposed on lollipop. It doesnt work with art.

I used this module on my N7 back on Kitkat and it didn't work very well. Most of the apps I tried crashed right away. Hope a native solution works better.
Yeah, it's pretty much inevitable that Google would implement this feature in the near future, given the size of their Nexus 6 phablet, in addition to all of their Nexus tablets. They can't let Samsung have all the glory.
