Color calibration of screen to 6504K for V20? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I just saw a demo unit of the LG V20 and I'm planning to get this phone.
Has anyone else noticed that the color temperature of this phone is way too blue? Namely, the color temperature is rather on the high side?
Anyways, a quick check and it looks like this could be an issue:

Is there any way to calibrate the LG V20 display to the optimal 6504k?

isn't there any app to calibrate in the play store? i dont have the v20 yet but i see the play store has some apps to play with, some of them might be fake but there might as well be some real ones.

It has the built in Comfort View which is a Blue light filter. It warms up the display but I kind of prefer it they way it is vs using the Comfort View settings.

This annoys me so much - all I want is control over colours like I have on my PC monitors. There's KCAL for a lot of rooted Qualcomm phones, but you need a custom kernel and I have an Exynos phone, so yeah.
The only solution I've found is an app called "Color Changer Pro." Its main downside is that it's technically an accessibility overlay, so it needs to be disabled to install apps etc. It re-enables itself automatically though, so could be worse.
I'd be interested to know whether it works on the V20 once root is achieved.

here is a calibration information from phonearena.com
the stock calibration is awful. Without root, anyone know of a solution other than color changer pro? they suggest turning on the blue light filter, but i'd like something a little more technical

Would like info as well! My reds look weird! It comes off a bit purplish and easily looks weird when compared to the Nexus 6p or note 7/5 screen ????????

Turning on night mode on the lowest setting helps a bunch. Won't get to fine tune it until root comes out or if lg re-enable system ui tuner as Rgb calibration is sort of built into 7.0

Comfort mode on the "low" setting isn't too bad.

Thanks guys! I'll give those a try and see which looks more appealing ???? I hope we get root soon cuz I edit my photos on the phone at times and red cars look horrible as it is ????

Can't anything be done at the Settings>Accessibility>Vision>Screen Color Adjustment>Manual option?

I was hoping for one too ????

I am a newbie and it won't let me post a link or a screenshot to show you so here goes nothing. Go to Accessibility/vision/scroll down to SCREEN COLOR adjustment and turn on. Choose MANUAL and drag the circle on the picture to top center in the clouds, with the circle almost out of the picture at the top. Sorry I can't post a picture to show you, but you can figure it out pretty easily and adjust it to your liking. Hit OK to save. If you still want it more warm, turn on Comfort View in low. This helped me adjust the colors much more to my liking.

Calibration
Under accessibility/vision/ there's an option to calibrate the colors of the device. It doesn't allow you to set a number but you can drag around until you get the colors that you like.

I know that this can be a silly question but where have you guys got the circle? When I make adjustments I can only either make it more blue/purple to the right or turquoise to the left. I don't see how we would be able to bring the blue down in this phone with this.
Thanks Ben

Gradient Backgrounds on QVGA

So, I have been working to replace my splash screens and also come up with a different wallpaper for Slide2Unlock that matches the Touch interface (see below), but am slightly stumped on how to create a gradient background that doesn't appear pixelated once applied to my QVGA screen on the mogul.
Is there anyway to output in photoshop that conforms to the way a QVGA screen wants colors to appear? What's the secret? They look fine off the device and then look crappy on it. I've tried combination after combination of output and nothing works.
hi, i've been tinkering for some time on the gradient effect in my qvga screen and what i've come to notice was that though the gradient appears smooth on the pc, it appears to have wave gradient levels as the colors goes lighter. what i do is after applying the gradient in photoshop, put a little bit of noise filter (just level/amount "1" would do). it wouldn't look that great on the pc but looks better on the ppc than the previous one. i hope this helps.

So you add noise. Interesting thought. I will indeed give it a shot and see how it works. Any other ideas out there? There must be and official way as I have seen some really good looking gradients out there.
Sweet. It still took a little bit of playing to make it look right but the finished product is pretty darn nice

Actually, I did fix that late yesterday in the wallpapers included in the TSK (at least on my mogul). Download it again and see if it works now. If not please let me know and how much you need to logo raised and I'll make it so!
I also created a blue version to match the blue used in the media player etc. I'll upload that later today.

Screen colour banding

When displaying gradients the screen has this weird colour banding effect. It doesn't show up in screenshots so it must be the screen?
Does anyone else's Settings look like this? Go into Settings -> Display to see it since the bottom half of the screen is empty. It's on full brightness too and you can see it even at half brightness.

Mine has been like that since day one. With all these issues this will definitely be my last Asus product.
This isn't with the tablet, it's with Android. It comes up in screenshots too.
Here's a photo from the battery usage thread:

I can confirm that the banding is not hardware related. It is with stock Jelly Bean. Currently rooted and running custom rom and do not have banding. I did notice it with stock Jelly Bean.
I have the same thing, it is software related

Lol....
This was even in ics but just larger isn't it?
Just that a lot of custom roms changed it to a flat color.
if you had true "banding" you would know it. I don't think you would only see it on backgrounds of things.
Am I correct in thinking that?

Just go here to check and see if you have "banding" and for example of what it is.

It must be a display issue if you compare how it looks in a screenshot to the photo. Does nobody else see how glaringly different they are? The photo shows it with a pink block, grey block, pink block with small bands that have their own gradients inside that all are light at the top and dark at the bottom.
Without looking at the Settings source, I assume that the background is a smooth gradient going from grey to black vertically. It must just be a low quality screen.
Ok I found the answer. See here: http://www.displaymate.com/news.html The Google Nexus 7 Display Stumbles and Falls Short...
So, what's the problem? The Intensity Scale (often called the Gray Scale) is way off. The display's Brightness fails to increase sufficiently for bright image content, causing bright image detail to be compressed and lost.
Click to collapse
Also the banding is because they didn't use a dithered image but the low quality screen calibration makes it look so much worse at brighter areas.
NO! It's a ****TY background image. Period. Good grief.
also, it's a 16-bit display. The background should have been dithered, but it wasn't. You'll see these same effects in just about every modern TV or LCD monitor as most are only capable of 16-bit color.
FWIW, this screen is "light-years" ahead of most of the Moto screens available on their phones. With their qHD and color enhancement techologies, they fall short to replicate accurate colors. Still, I don't ***** about it. I like the devices, they serve their purpose. I'm not going to be editing photos on them, so why should I care?
cant find an answer to this problem anywhere so here goes:
History: i have the nexus 7 and ordered early on end july (so an early batch), i received the device with a little bit of screen lift on the left side but nothing else. its the stock rom with no alterations or accidents.
Problem:
the screen lift got progressively worse but the screen hasnt lifted more after hitting about one milimeter withen the first couple of weeks. then the speaker started crackling slightly and a was getting a purple tinge in a game agent dash about a week ago. now as of yesterday suddenly the screen has grey/purple-ish vertical banding and i cant see anything on the screen - but if i take a screen shot the png file shows everything as fine.
dont know what to do, tried the soft reset (volume + / - and power) but cant get into the menus to try and factory reset. is this a hardware problem or a software problem?
what my google asus nexus 7 looks like now: (not letting me post a link to img)
only lead i have is this which is what mine looks like now:

ideas? options? return it under warranty, will they charge me for that?

Xperia Z1 yellow screen improvement filter

So my screen has a yellow hue like many of you had (not really noticeable unless you view an all white page against something white in the background). I don't think this is a screen defect, because all screen/monitor/tv will come with a universal preset setting, but not all panels are the same, so while this setting will look good on a certain batch, it will look slightly off on another batch. So to test it out, I downloaded Filter Your Screen from Google Play to adjust the screen setting.
I use this as my setting:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

Applied the filter, and the yellow hue is gone from the screen. Sorry I don't have another camera to capture the before and after screen, but you can try it out for yourself.

you just adjust the "alpha" and "red" value until the "Filter" looks white to you. mine looked so much better, barely any blue tint.

works really well just tried it, its the best I have had the screen look so far. Im not worried about the yellow tint thing anymore now.
I don't like having apps running in the background, but it worked for me too. But now I will remove it
Haven't tried with this app yet, but other screenfilters introduce a bug where you can not manually install apk's anymore as they make it impossible to press the 'Install' button (very weird bug, in the installer/framework apperantly).
I'll chekc with this one as well, just something to keep in mind if you stumble upon this issue
Does seem to help for me as well, but believe this was also mentioned in combination with another screen filter app already

I have tried the other app and I like this one a lot better the colours seem to be right the other one you end up with a bit more blue tinge or not quite getting rid of the yellow tinge. This app seems to get the closest of having good colours for me anyway
just want to tell you guys again, that my screen was fine after resetting to factory settings. I know setting up a device again can be a pain in the *** but to me it was worth it. maybe it also works for you, so you don't need any additional apps
my XZ1 gets a better grey level with OP settings
but we have to work on the light colors, closer to the white, because they get a little bit blue than corresponding real ones

same for me. hard reset 2 times, nothing changed. so this is suppose to be calibration problem right? not hardware? since you could use apps to adjust the screen.
just notice that this app and screen adjuster doesn't change the color of the on screen button.

[FIX] Yellow/Green/Red White Balance fix without Root. Yellowish tint , Yellow tint

Hello all, after getting my LG G4 yesterday I have noticed the screen on my unit exhibits a yellowish tint, especially whites look too yellow for my liking. Now, because of Boot-gate I don't want to root it this early just in case ( although I have a 607 serial number so chances of that happening are significantly smaller.)
So I researched some fixes, tested some apps and came to the conclusion that this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.uk.quickdoc.screenbalance is the best solution if you are not rooted.
Because, unlike all other apps, it is not an overlay but rather uses the built-in accessibility service baked into android, it is much more accurate, is system wide ( so yes, the virtual buttons as well!) and is more energy efficient.
Now the problem is that functionality is pretty limited if you are not on the pro version. By any means , use ''your way'' to get the app because I love to support devs but asking 3 euros is just too much for a very simple app. Please support the developer however because without him we would not have had this amazing solution
My settings are as follows: (Please note that the screenshots are not INDICATIVE of the real thing, in real life it is much less blue.)

Tried it and because I have a yellow tinted screen it hasn't quite worked for me obviously. But yes indeed the xperia phones have a nice calibration on them. Funny because my reference point was my sister's Z3 on vivid mode.
Thank you for the post OP. I also bought G4 Dual sim variant few days back, and found my phone's display has reddish/pinkish tint, which is more visible on white background and in low brightness.
I have installed the app u mentioned, and it is so far working good. I still haven't found thr ebst setrings for red tint, trying out different ones, but the one i m using right now is (see screenshot below)

My pleasure. To quickly respond to the question you asked me about the RGB values, the presets (midnight etc.) are actually values that are being composed using the RGB sliders. Using the RGB sliders will give you more control and will potentially allow you to calibrate the display to almost perfect (basically as good as the panel can be so don't expect any miracles).
However this will take a lot of time so I'll just stick with the presets for now.

The only issues I know of are
- When taking a screenshot the value is calculated over the original value rather than the value you actually see on-screen. This results in a blueish/yellowish/reddish picture.
- When an app wants to be granted a permission the app needs to be paused( I do not now if this is because of safety reasons imposed by google or if it's because of the dev.)

Use nova launcher and hide the notification bar. Why worry about burn in. Amoled phone have been used since the galaxy s2 or before that and burn in hasnt been an issue in notification icons
The navigation bar icons can still be found in SystemUI.apk but Samsung has decided to store them in a proprietary SPR format. Replacing these files with PNGs and rebuilding the package does not work, so I am not sure how to proceed.
