Gradient Backgrounds on QVGA - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

So, I have been working to replace my splash screens and also come up with a different wallpaper for Slide2Unlock that matches the Touch interface (see below), but am slightly stumped on how to create a gradient background that doesn't appear pixelated once applied to my QVGA screen on the mogul.
Is there anyway to output in photoshop that conforms to the way a QVGA screen wants colors to appear? What's the secret? They look fine off the device and then look crappy on it. I've tried combination after combination of output and nothing works.

hi, i've been tinkering for some time on the gradient effect in my qvga screen and what i've come to notice was that though the gradient appears smooth on the pc, it appears to have wave gradient levels as the colors goes lighter. what i do is after applying the gradient in photoshop, put a little bit of noise filter (just level/amount "1" would do). it wouldn't look that great on the pc but looks better on the ppc than the previous one. i hope this helps.

So you add noise. Interesting thought. I will indeed give it a shot and see how it works. Any other ideas out there? There must be and official way as I have seen some really good looking gradients out there.

Sweet. It still took a little bit of playing to make it look right but the finished product is pretty darn nice
Here is my Levelbest HTC TSK File that goes nicely with the HTC Touch 6 Button Home Plug.

Actually, I did fix that late yesterday in the wallpapers included in the TSK (at least on my mogul). Download it again and see if it works now. If not please let me know and how much you need to logo raised and I'll make it so!
I also created a blue version to match the blue used in the media player etc. I'll upload that later today.

Ok, here are the images included in the TSK blue version:

Magic Button change background?

I'm using Magic Button and it's realy great! There is just one thing I don't realy like about the programma and that's that it uses the "selection color" of the current theme as background color. It seems to me that way anyway.
Does anybody know how to adjust this?
I included two screenshots to show what I mean exactly:

I did contact the programmer so if he/she helpes me out I will let you people know!
I don't really have an answer and haven't seen what the result will be with other programs, but I found a set of tweaks at vicsoft (http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/uitweaker.shtml). UITweaker Suite. Loading the system changer, you can then change the System bar active and sytem bar inactive colors. They will still have a slight fade, which you can see in the second image, but it's better than being bright blue, grey or red! Hope this helps. I just found this ap today, and haven't used it to finish modifiying the theme and the colors, but this is the closest I've gotten.
Thats why I remove MagicButton and install Vieka vBar.
Thanks for the tips! With vBar I still have the blue square on the right side.
I'm now checking out that UITweaker

Sounds like we have all been bouncing back and forth between vbar and magic button for hte same reasons! :mrgreen:
I also managed to edit some bmps for use with vbar that allowed them to match my screen. I never got the size exactly right, as the button seemed to overlap the faded bar between the top bar and the today screen. But it is possible to do.
There are things i like about both aps. I like seeing the icons across the top in MB, but sometimes I like the list in Vbar. I guess there is still room for the perfect ap!
I'm currently using vBar with a black BMP at the background... ..the best solution so far.. ..still not perfect though
Hi deecee52
Could you please tell me which collors exactlu must be changed?
I Installed the UITweak 0.4 and I have 4 tools: PT Explorer, TdyScheme Changer, SysColor Changer and WM5Color Changer.
Where can I change the SystemBar color?
I attached a screenshot of my screen.
Thanks for your help
Are you guys using Magic Button 2.0? I tried three different themes and don't see any problems. I will have to try the black theme next.

I'm using pBar now. No problems so far and it's also freeware!
@Kelu
Open tDySchemeChanger -> Windows Mobile 5.0
Here you can set the color for the taskbar
This is the key that will change that color
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE\SysColor\ COLOR_ACTIVECAPTION
for black 00 00 00 00 but it will be slightly gray for some reason.
see here http://www.codeproject.com/useritems/PPCColorConfig.asp
For some reason when Magic Button was written, they didn't u se transparent backgrouns behind the icons. Now this might've been a limitation to the system... But either way, TranaCreative software appears to have gone stale as it hasn't been updated in over a year. With out the source code for it, we're sort of up the perverbial brown creek.
This is a shame because Magic Button is the best at what it does and no other app comes close to matching or beating it's features.
The problem is, that Magic Button canĀ“t show a black taskbar-backround. Diamond & Touch HD has a plain black taskbar under WM6 without 3d-effect, but Magic Button makes the backround of the icons and the closing-button grey with 3d-effect!
Is there a way with the registry to tell Magic Button making a BLACK backgroud?
nick
I took wkTask and it works perfectly - and with black backgorund.
I want not to say it, but: Its better than MagicButton!

new htc home look, maybe

That looks real nice.
Excellent! Love it!
Great work, 2nd is much better
cool
Really beautiful both of them!! Wm7 vs Diamond??
Will be great if you could share them! (or only part, like the 1st clock, if you can)
he screens are put together in photoshop, cause it takes more time to experiment with the files on the device
Looks very nice itje!! but vice versa, blue AND diamond clock
updated with another screen
Could you please upload the icons and background itje?
Diamond clock is nice, but i can imagen that you cant made the clock "blue" no black around it?? because i think? that is much nicer when the color of the theme is blue and the clock is blue, is that even possible?
But offcourse when the bars is dark it can match..
When you look at the first one, so it isnt so bad after all, because the font seems to match together fine. Can you try another font on the clock??
Nice WRK
I LK this 1
I like the solid black, but having a hint of color in the icons would make it sweeter for me. Excellent work. looking forward to seeing more.
Are Drunken ?
just a joke, great graphics.
I prefer the blue one with the diamond clock with blue blackground
Very nice icons, they're original ! You sould submit them to Emunutz so he could integrate them in the HHC! Would love to use them.
I prefer the more standard clock. The other one looks to much "Diamond wannabe" and a little too fake... And i don't find it fits as well in this setup and icon's style.
But, hey, that's just me!
You should try using the white diamond clock on the blue background by the way! I have my home screen like this now, and really like it. The icons are som of the best I've seen, so looking forward to when you post them!

That's doesn't appear the same clock. When I installed it it changed the icons and text for Call History and Calendar to the same dark gray as the clock. Also, the clock in the link posted by The-Kevster seems to be a lot darker - almost, but not quite, black, whereas the one in your link appears (to my eyes at least) to be lighter.
Unless I'm doing something wrong...
I have a rom for you with that clock. It is the latest pdaviet rom for the diamond. If you need it let me know. It is superfastttt. WIth no major bugs.
i don't remember where from i got it so i uploaded it for you here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/164026938/tnyynt_Manila_Black_Clock.cab
enjoy!
Its called Holy Clock... disable TF3D(start>settings>today>itemstab), install the cab file, then enable TF3D again
The problem I've got with these clocks is that whereas the normal white Manila clock has a nice graduated background, every black version I have tried has a background which is very blocky (it looks as though the backgrounds to the numbers are very highly compressed jpg's).
Is there a version of the black clock available where the background to the numbers isn't blocky?
EDIT*** OK, on further investigation I can see that what most people appear to have done when creating the black clocks is take the white background and basically turn it in to a negative image. I have just tried this myself and the result is just as blocky, so it's simply a case of this blockiness not showing up very much on the white versions. On the black versions it sticks out like a sore thumb. Basically in order to smooth it out the background will need to be completely redrawn. I have neither the skills or the patience to do this.
I've found the clock that I'm after, and it is the clock that is in the White Manila Theme. The clock background appears to be much smoother when I apply this to my phone, instead of using some of the other black clocks that I've tried.
Here is a screenshot to better explain what I'm talking about. The image has been uploaded as an uncompressed .bmp
The clock on the left is the one you posted, and the one on the right is from the White theme. Both pictures have been brightened up a bit (each by the same amount) to better show what I mean:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I know people will probably claim that the one on the right is blocky also, but when it is at its correct brightness it doesn't stand out as much and appears a lot smoother to my eyes.
How do I go about extracting this clock from the White theme to be used on the standard Black Manila theme?

How do I change this color? Everything else on my phone is black or grey and this is really out of place, and I really don't even know how it got changed to that color in the first place. I'm sure there is some sort of registry file to edit, but I have no clue which one it would be.
I'd like to know this one too. Would be nice if you could change it to something more colourful

Google is your friend. Base Hue has a particular meaning in WM5/6 and somehow you've changed it. When I've been messing with various bits of theme editing software, mine has changed to red on occasion.
You should notice that the separator next to the Start icon is also red, also the SIP button when pressed. All down to the Base Hue.

I did Google it and found out what Base Hue is, but see, I'm using UI Tweaker, and I changed things so my taskbar would be black and all that, and that is when I started to get the red color for the unlock background. As soon as I change the same setting, but on the grey scale, it makes the unlock background grey, but it also makes my taskbar grey as well. It's like when I change the system color the grey, its fine, but as soon as I change it to black, I get the red color on a few things.

Question about modifying Slider

I've almost got my phone 100% the way I want it, more like 99.5%. Last thing I want to change is the slider. I don't really mean the slider and icons. I want the icons to stay the same. Most cabs will modify both slider and icons. Here is my home screen. I'm not sure what the correct nomenclature is, but the area behind my icons is a blueish color. I want to make it a two tone black/grey sort of like the top of the phone. Is it a matter of dropping some sort of image file into the manilla directory overwriting the existing one? Or is it more involved requiring replacing the icons as well? Any info or pointers on what/how I can change this would be much appreciated. I'm sure the info is out there I'm just not plugging in the right search criteria.
If it makes a difference I am running Sense 2.1

I would suggest using the "Remove Both Curtains" cab file. What this should do is make that blue hue clear - you will see the black background of your screen.

It does make a difference . If you are on PPCG, chuckz07 has posted a fix using mode9 edits. Here's the link (I don't think I've posted enough here so I'm stripping the beginning part h t t p)
forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=97345
It doesn't change the icons, just the slider. The files at the beginning of the thread are for the rom you are using where you have the small slider. If you look later on you will find where I have posted a modification that allows for a wider clear slider for those roms that have/need a wider clear slider.

Awsome. This finally did the trick. The C07 transparent slider stuff i could never get to work. Also tried the Glass/Metal and the C07 fix and basic. But this one at least made the slider all black so I am happy Tab still has color but I don't mind that at all. Yay no more blue!
