Unlock SIM? - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there!
TL;DR: Should I buy a SIM locked Moto X Play?
In the first place, I'm not an expert at all. I used to install alternative ROMs (CyanogenMod until today) but that's it. So thanks to this great community of experts to share their tips.
I opening a new thread today because I'm going to buy a Moto X Play (I don't know yet the exact model) on Craigslist very soon (in a couple of hours actually). The phone is lock on the Bell network (Canada) according the seller. I plan to root it, to change the recovery software and install an alternative ROM. Do I need some extra steps to unlock the SIM? Is there an easily/cheap way to doing that? Maybe is there a nerdy trick?
If someone could share how s/he's unlock the SIM of his/her phone that will be very helpful.
Have a good day!

locked HTC HD2 bought on e-bay

Hello everybody,
I'm kindly asking you to give me an advice concerning the possibility to use the phone in other network than that in which it is locked. Practically, I intend to buy a locked HD2 on e-bay (there are also unlocked phones offered, but the locked ones are cheaper) and I want to know if it would be possible to unlock it with my sim card (unlock it) and also to flash another (cooked) ROM on it. Is it relevant in which network is locked the phone, or it can be unlocked regardless the original network? If it's possible, which would be the safest way to do it (HardSPL?)?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hey
your phone can be unlocked, but you will have to use an unlocking service, some network providers will provide an unlock code for a fee (O2 is free) if you've been with them for a certain amount of time, or you could try http://www.unlock-now.com/ - very quick service (got my unlock code in 30mins) for €25.
just one option, you may find cheaper alternatives on ebay?

First off is it a TMOUS HD2 or a EU version?
And Second where are you?? EU or US.
There is a guy on ebay that is very reliable, a lot of people here use him, and I as well, got my unlock code in 15 minutes , for $10 ..
The phone can be unlocked no matter where it is from and you can flash custom ROMs ...
Depending on which version of phone it is and where you are at , your mileage may vary on service ....
You cannot sim unlock the phone with a flash, but you can use HSPL3 to put pretty much any compatible ROM on it, again depends on which version of the phone ...
Hope that helps a little ....
Buy it on eBay. Save some money. They have unlock codes for as low as $10.00 and since it's eBay, your money is safe too just in case the code doesn't work, although I haven't heard of anyone complaining so far.
yup buy unlock code from ebay... i got it from swiftunlocks i think... 15 bux, but got it quick ...

[Q CLOSED] Bell - Desire Z - SIM Unlock?

Edit: Topic already in discussion here. Please search before creating a new thread. ~TheRomMistress
Assuming I root a Bell Desire Z, what would be the next step to SIM unlock it?

Hey everyone, I know this is kind of a stupid question, but I have a Nexus one right now (rooted with CM 6.1.0 RC1) so I am kinda new to the whole SIM lock thing.
I am with Rogers Wireless in Canada, and I want to buy the Desire Z (I found a place that will sell it to me for no contract). Since it is a Bell Mobility phone, I'll need to unlock it.
If I root the Desire Z will it be SIM unlocked right away, or do I need to do something else?
Thanks

Hey!
Unlocks for this phone can be done for $20 canadian at this website
http://www.mobileincanada.com/?l=en&u=all
But also beware that once you do buy this phone through BELL and unlock it, you wont have warranty. What i reccommend is buy it from BEST BUY and get the warranty plan ($10/mnth)...a tad bit expensive but i personally believe its worth it just in case down the road...something does happen. Like hardware/software fault. I am buying mine outright to and am with Rogers Wireless.

numb question

Hello,
Im pretty new on android. I bought one Xperia ARC from Japan/Docomo. Can anyone tell me that what should I do first? from where should I start? root? If I root and install a custom rom would I be able to use my sim card? or is there any other and easier way to unlock sim lock?
thanx.
If you really want to root your phone then take a closer look at the sticky thread "how to root your phone"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052067
Easier way to root, is with gingerbreak, you will find links in the above topic (Thats what i've used and im completely new to android too)
Then, remove bloatware apps that you dont need and always run on background to increase your phone's performance
Here's what you can remove safely: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047689
For questions reply inside these threads
Thanx Retrosid, after rooting can I be able to use different sim cards?
Did you buy the Arc in Japan?
Docomo will SIM unlock the phone for you, for free, at the store.

Yes, I bought it in Japan but I already came back to Ukraine.
darn, I didn't know it. well, I didn't buy it from Docomo store cos they said I can't buy from there unless have a gaijin card(I don't know how it's called) or japanese citizenship. so I bought it from Yahoo! auction but new/not used one.
so is there any way to unlock it from here? my gf is living in Japan, can she go and unlock it for me?
It may be different for the arc, but on the hero rooting/installing custom rom does not let you unlock the SIM lock.
Try contacting docomo, they may be able to supply an unlock code (although probably for a fee).

Your phone is sim-locked.
Rooting won't unlock it and you may have to end up 40 to 50 dollar to unlock the sim to be able to put other sim-cards in it.
There is a Docomo Arc Japanese thread with all the information.
Good luck.

Hi, I'm currently using a Focus across Europe, successfully.
Mine was bought in US and initially SIM locked to AT&T. Paid for unlock and now is SIM unlocked (flashing, restoring, downgrading, upgrading etc. firmware doesn't affect SIM lock).
So yes, you can buy it, unlock it (fastgsm or ebay) and use with no issues across the world, actually, not only Europe.

thanks for the replay and for the answer buddy =)
Yes, I got it from eBay.
However, I specifically chose one which buyer said specifically it works for any carrier in the world ("world-wide phone").
It's working beautifully, I am very pleased about it.
Some tip about buying from eBay, in case you aren't used to it(like I was):
Make sure you read carefully the buyer description.
For example, being in hurry, while I did make sure about other things, I didn't notice that it didn't include a micro-USB data cable. It's my fault, the buyer actually didn't mention about it.
Also, the charger was not the original one(Samsung Traveler). The buyer just mentioned 'charger'.
These are really not important at all as I got an original micro-USB for like 10$.
I was more interested about phone being in good shape and that it works in my country.
But since you have to choose it might help you.
Good luck!

Unlocking Sim

Hi everyone, I just got the Moto G2 for christmas, but it happens to be locked to consumer cellular and I use T-mobile. So when I put my sim card in, it tells me that I need a unlock code.
I don't want to have to pay for such a service, and never have had to. I have tried calling CC, but they won't give me an unlock code.
Can you guys tell me how i can unlock if you know.
Much thanks in advance.
Thank You!
Ebay. It is very cheap, $2-$3
I used ebay too... it's cheap and reliable, I unlocked 2 Moto Gs Nextel Mexico without problems.
