On Motorola/Lenovo website there is no mention of gorilla glass for the moto g4 play. However, I would find that odd because in the past motorola has typically included gorilla glass on their phones. Not sure how that's working now with Lenovo in the driver's seat.
Anyway, here is the link to Motorola website showing moto g4 play specs: https://www.motorola.com/us/products/moto-g-play
On a side note, there are other places on the web that state the moto g4 play does indeed have gorilla glass 3. I would think that would be the case since gorilla glass is a pretty common standard even on the most basic of smartphones. If the moto g4 play does not have it then Lenovo has taken a step backwards imo.
Hope this helps.

From what I understand, no it does not. They instead opted for an in-house solution of a scratch and water resistant nano coating.

I think you are right.
I just bought the Verizon version of the Moto g4 play yesterday and while the display looks like gorilla glass, it feels different.
Btw, this is a very nice phone but unfortunately I'm gonna have to return it because I just found out that it does not have voice/data (HD calling/advanced calling).
Bummer!

Do you know if the regular Moto G4 (not the plus or the play) has volte capability?
I'm thinking about getting that one.
Thanks.

Hi.
G4 the screen play is not Gorilla Glass, makes it better or worse? It is less resistant ?.
Is it necessary to add a protecto tempered glass? Or no protector can withstand a fall or blow ?.
Excuse my English, I'm using google translator.
Thanks

Same question as above. Also, does the regular G4 have gorilla glass?

As far as i have understood ur question, yes its better if our devices have Gorilla Glass protection. And it is made to withstand the "usual" falls and blows.

[Q] gorilla glass

any news if focus will have gorilla glass like galaxy S phones?
Not from the review or spec sheets I have seen. The Dell does though, that does look a great phone.
Has Samsung put Gorilla Glass on the spec sheets for their Galaxy S phones? I wasn't under the impression that they did, and if not, I wouldn't be surprised if the WinMo7 phones from them DID have GG.

Samsung did not reveal that info. it was corning that came out and told everyone that galaxy S has their product. I find it very strange that samsung does not mention it as a feature.

Guess I don't care what it is or is called, if it doesn't need a screen protector! Everything I see about this device get's me more and more focused on it (sorry, couldn't resist the pun).
Samsung, for whatever reason, don't like to mention this, even for its Galaxy S phones. I have no doubt Focus comes with gorilla glass as well.
One can only assume the same applies to the Omnia 7.
Excellent news indeed!
I asked this question on the SGH-i917 Focus' support page on Samsung site. They have posted the question for viewing, but it hasn't been answered yet.
Maybe when I am tired of my omnia 7, I will perform a scratch test to comfirm
I was with a samsung rep today and was playing with the phone when this question was brought up. The rep said it does have a gorilla glass screen and so does the lg models and the htc models of the windows phone 7 devices.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Why don't they advertise the feature as I presume it costs more for groilla glass?
I think they are worried that users will get careless and start asking for replacements when glass scratches or breaks.
Either that or maybe its a gorilla glass knock off.

Good news
Same for the Omnia 7 one hopes?
I submitted a support ticket to Samsung asking about screen guards and wether the glass was scratchproof, they replied with a link to their (dead) dealer page and a link Phones4u :| They totally avoided answered the question.
So I submitted another ticket very clearly asking if the screen is toughened, scratchproof or any such thing.
No reply as yet. Seems they're not so keen to say for some reason.
I've had confirmation from Samsung that the Omnia 7 DOES have Gorilla Glass too
Wow, dropped my Omnia 7 for the third time, this time only about 4 feet off the ground, but it slid front face on the floor tiles..... and what do you know, its got scratches ><. One short one, and one long but really thin one. If this does have gorilla glass, well, I thought it'd be tougher than this...

Type of Gorilla Glass on the Note 3

Has anyone been able to find anywhere what version of Gorilla glass is on the Note 3? I'm wondering if it is Gorilla Glass 3 or 4.

Yeah, looking at the reflectance measurements at displaymate, while they were good, they weren't the super-mega-amazing results that GG4 should of brought. However, I don't doubt whatsoever that it has anything less than GG3, especially since the S4 has it, and the Note 3 is better than the S4 in every way(not to mention it has the best display out of any phone ever).

I'm thinking the same thing mate!
Here are 2 websites mentioning that Note 3 comes with GG3. Now totaly official source, but what the heck!

P.S.
These are press releases before the anouncement of the device, but that is all i have for now mate!
VZW says Note 3 has GG3
It's been bugging me that no mention is made of Gorilla Glass on Samsung or Corning. No carriers mention it but in the Verizon detailed specs they say Gorilla Glass 3.
I wonder if VZ is perhaps wrong as once upon a time I had read that Samsung was using a GG clone of some sort.
Paste from VZW site:
Specifications
Design
5.7” full HD Super AMOLED Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3 Touch Screen Display
Enhanced S–Pen
Dimensions
5.95” (H) x 3.12” (W) x .33” (D) inches

Global Network: EDGE/GSM (850/900/1800/1900), HSPA/UMTS(850/900/1900/2100)
Bolding is my doing.
The mystery continues.
Corning Gorilla Glass 4 has an anti-reflection coating and an anti-fingerprint/grease coating.
Thus, the Note 3 has CGG3. Because I can count the individual reflected birds is the sky on the glass, once I clear off the fingerprints.
We know it has 3, because the S4 has CGG3, too. Samsung already told us we have the S4's screen.
there was nothing official. everything is just inferred conclusion like:
1. S4 has GG3. Note3 is higher/better than S4. So it has the better, or at least same screen.
2. Samsung has stake or ownership in Corning. So its assumed they would have put at least Gorilla Glass on it.
corning site doesn't mention it (seen that news below was updated nov 4 2013)
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/samsung
Full device list doesn't have it. But maybe list isn't updated?
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/full-products-list-new
Side note. I had to replace my day one Note 3 with a new just days ago and had the new one laying right next to the old one. With polarized sunglasses on the new one was darker when looking straight on and would then lighten to match the old one if I tilted my head. Normal with polarized glass. Its weird that it seems there was a change.

I don't think you can assume the Note 3 has GG3 - simply because Samsung has been known to use parts from various suppliers according to their needs at the time. Also, if it was GG3, I'm sure Samsung Marketing would be touting that fact hard to sell these phones.
I do know that the Canadian model of the Note 3 has Gorilla Glass, but I do not know what version it is, and I don't know if the other models of the Note 3 have it.
EDIT: Before someone asks for proof, I talked to the product manager in the Canadian facility. Just call your nearest Samsung facility and pester for a product manager or someone who deals with the products.
Judging by the scratchproofness (i declare that a word.) it seems logical. Normal glass does not handle keys, idiots and catclaws as well as this.
It's not GG4, because that is glare-free. The S4 has GG3, makes sense this one does too.

GG is not totally scratch proof... There are certain things that will scratch it like sand. It is generally going to be pretty tough to scratch though... It is also NOT shatterproof...
Personally I use a hardened glass screen protector.
I gave my old S3 to my brother with a hardened glass screen protector, he recently dropped it out of his pocket face flat onto concrete and the glass shattered but the screen underneath was fine... Good idea to use....
GG is a good thing to have but it can be broken....

My moto x play fell down and the gorilla glass(?) , only the outer glass has cracked, the screen seems to be working fine , how much will it cost to get it fixed in India?
Not sure what the labour will cost you to replace the screen but the part is going for $100 + $20 shipping in US dollars on eBay.

Same here...phone is very fragile and give me a doubt whether it has Gorilla glass or not...phone fell from 2 feet that too the backside of the phone hit the ground and the entire front glass has been cracked...even small small pieces are juz ripping off the phone...the worst scenario is I had tampered glass on the phone and still the screen broke...not even a month old phone :'(
i broke my moto x play xt1562 display, please let us know the quality of after market part.
I got the screen today. It looks promising. After disassembling my phone, I find out that the replacement screen is only the screen and glass, not the plastic and aluminium frame that the rest of the phone is attached to.
It is mounted with glue and very hard to get off my cracked screen, so I did not want to break anything.
The only disassembly guide on the internet:

It looks fine visually, but I can't mount it on my phone without peeling off the fragile plastic that is glued to the edge of the screen,(the little edge you can feel when you hit the end of the screen.), and getting the aluminium frame off the screen.
Not sure what I am going to do now... I don't want to break my phone further.

Several Questions after MOTO X FORCE received

I've brought a new MOTO X FRORE from UK (carphone warehouse). Looks great! Will appreciate if anyone can answer me:
1. What's the material of the surface ? Looks like plastic but not glass.
2. Is it possible to disable "google search" as it's the default APP which could not be stopped manually ? Here in my country google service was blocked so nothing it can do but consume the power.
3. When/How can we root MXF ?
4. My MXF's rear is ballistic nylon.. Little hairs, paper was easily attahced to the rear. Anyone has the same experience ? And how to prevent this ?
5. How many people has MXF instead of turbo 2 ?
Tks guys !
1. plastic probably
3. no one knows, we must wait
It's shatterproof kind of plastic screen protector. Bad is that many users and reviewers reported as it easy to scratch. Workaround is to put glass protector on the top of shatterproof protector

I've found mine durable enough so far. I wouldn't put it in a pocket with keys or a coin (although I wouldn't do that with gorilla glass either) but it's lasted my days so far. Face down on a table, or using it outside in a dusty area like a construction zone. No scratches so far. Doesn't seem to be a delicate as made out to be at least.
Moto should (if not already) offer top layer replacement. Probably will be more expensive than laternative from Amazon or ebay.

Yeah they have it on their site here. 30 bucks though. But it is an exact fit, whereas I don't think Amazon would have something that fits like this would. Wonder if this one includes the Verizon logo or if this is an X Force/Turbo 2 universal piece that doesn't have the logo.

It doesn't really bother me to be honest. I don't mind the logo, even though I thought it looked atrocious when it was first revealed. In fact I forgot it was even there. I meant it more for the other people who couldn't stand it.
Honestly I would like to see soft buttons instead logo or smaller bezels.
I have same phone... I like screen so far it doesn't seem to pick up as much grease a gorilla glass..
Not sure if I'll keep it yet though but much better than bb priv
I too have the MXF got it from the same place Carphone Warehouse on the 21st, excellent phone best decision i made for a phone since i got the htc desire in 2010
Mine arrived yesterday. Built in moto. Screen scratches easier than GG but loving the unbreakability factor. Wouldn't recommend the leather. Wish I had gone for the grippy soft backs as the leather is a bit slippy on car dashboard hehe. Battery life awesome in standby but when used it drains as fast as other phones but I can get a full day of heavy use so all good. Not sure I like lack of IR blaster and also no fingerprint reader but I'll see how I adapt

Camera glass longevity/scratch resistance?

Thinking about a G5 plus to replace my 2014 G2 lte, but the protruding lens does not look good and worries me. Specially since lenovo's camera "glass" on previous Moto phones seems scratch prone.
So, anyone with real world data care to chip in?
Does it scratch or not?
It's now down to the G5 plus, the 2017 A5 (i have hatred towards samsung and the fragile glass back is just stupid) or Oneplus 3t (which actually is a wee bit too pricey in my book).

PS. The back camera doesn't seem so fragile to me but ur milage may vary I'd recommend putting on a case.. Just in case

You may go with Moto G5+ if camera is your priority. And coming from G2 it would be a great upgrade. The SOC used is phenomenal its gives a good battery life with a great performance.
The bulged out camera lens is made up of glass and is scratch resistance but to be on a safe side use a cover.

I don't think it's scratch resistant. My brother has a G4 and it got scratched horribly. Wouldn't expect much from G5 either. I'm still waiting for a decent case to appear in the market. Definitely getting one asap

Hmm that's true. But it depends on the type of glass as well. OnePlus 3's glass got scratched easily and so they replaced it with sapphire glass in 3T
