Several Questions after MOTO X FORCE received - Droid Turbo 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've brought a new MOTO X FRORE from UK (carphone warehouse). Looks great! Will appreciate if anyone can answer me:
1. What's the material of the surface ? Looks like plastic but not glass.
2. Is it possible to disable "google search" as it's the default APP which could not be stopped manually ? Here in my country google service was blocked so nothing it can do but consume the power.
3. When/How can we root MXF ?
4. My MXF's rear is ballistic nylon.. Little hairs, paper was easily attahced to the rear. Anyone has the same experience ? And how to prevent this ?
5. How many people has MXF instead of turbo 2 ?
Tks guys !

1. plastic probably
3. no one knows, we must wait

It's shatterproof kind of plastic screen protector. Bad is that many users and reviewers reported as it easy to scratch. Workaround is to put glass protector on the top of shatterproof protector

Congrats on the Force.
#1 Had my dt2 coming on 2 weeks, no screen protector and no scratches. I have been cognizant of keep my phone alone in my pocket.
#2. You can disable the google app by going to settings > apps > google app > disable

I've found mine durable enough so far. I wouldn't put it in a pocket with keys or a coin (although I wouldn't do that with gorilla glass either) but it's lasted my days so far. Face down on a table, or using it outside in a dusty area like a construction zone. No scratches so far. Doesn't seem to be a delicate as made out to be at least.

Moto should (if not already) offer top layer replacement. Probably will be more expensive than laternative from Amazon or ebay.

Yeah they have it on their site here. 30 bucks though. But it is an exact fit, whereas I don't think Amazon would have something that fits like this would. Wonder if this one includes the Verizon logo or if this is an X Force/Turbo 2 universal piece that doesn't have the logo.

They even made video how to replace it, cool. I didn't see an logo on the video but do you really wish to have Turbo 2 without Verizon logo?

It doesn't really bother me to be honest. I don't mind the logo, even though I thought it looked atrocious when it was first revealed. In fact I forgot it was even there. I meant it more for the other people who couldn't stand it.

Honestly I would like to see soft buttons instead logo or smaller bezels.

I have same phone... I like screen so far it doesn't seem to pick up as much grease a gorilla glass..
Not sure if I'll keep it yet though but much better than bb priv

I too have the MXF got it from the same place Carphone Warehouse on the 21st, excellent phone best decision i made for a phone since i got the htc desire in 2010

Mine arrived yesterday. Built in moto. Screen scratches easier than GG but loving the unbreakability factor. Wouldn't recommend the leather. Wish I had gone for the grippy soft backs as the leather is a bit slippy on car dashboard hehe. Battery life awesome in standby but when used it drains as fast as other phones but I can get a full day of heavy use so all good. Not sure I like lack of IR blaster and also no fingerprint reader but I'll see how I adapt

That's the stuff I used in my bathroom to frost my windows... I got it wet and slid it on.. used a squeegee and flattened it all out and 3 years later is is still sticking there.
The difference is that this is
1.) Clear
2.) Cut into the proper shape (you could do this yourself with some measuring but it saves hassle)
3.) the squeegee is probably smaller.
My bathroom windows are in a VERY humid environment... I have never had ANY peeling.
However I don't keep my bathroom windows in my pocket... so I don't know if the corners will peel up.
My main point is that for $24 of this "film" to cover a TINY phone... you can buy the same thing for $18 that would cover 10 phones... if the product works fantastic... the profit margin for them is HUGE. If it doesn't work... it's the biggest rip off ever.
See if Gila makes a clear one... get $18 worth and tinker away.

Since you've had the Fuze already... Is the shape exactly the same as the TP? It looks like sprints version is a little more round along the corners. I'd Like to go ahead and purchase one of these for the Fuze but don't want to have to send it back.

The only difference I noticed when seeing the 2 up next to each other was the shape of the speaker hole on the back, that might be enough to throw the protection off. Ask Raspster about it more, he had both the European and the Fuze at the same time, so he could tell you better than I could.
I got one, just to try it out.
Exactly as described above. Its a bit fiddly getting on but once on, it sticks very well.
Its great at sticking to flat surfaces, not so good on curves. And they don't even try and cover the corners on the device, which I would think are the places I'd want protected if I was to drop it.
The texture makes the back look very different from normal; its much nicer without the cover on. On the front, you can't really see the cover at all; edges are perfectly aligned with the phones edges.
The back and the front of the phone are covered very well. Sides not so great. Corners not at all. Front looks good. Back looks crap.
My opinion, its no way worth $24
just got mine on Friday exactly as it's described, protects almost every part of the phone with their cut out plastic shield, however as mentioned in earlier post... doesn't really cover the edges, all in all... does really stick and so far looks pretty ok with the exception of little bubbles within the shield (poor application technique)

Hi Marcel808,
Is it easy to peel it off without tearing the phone's original casing? Especially the back cover. I just ordered mine, hope it arrives soon.

I have used the Zagg's products (formerly Invisible Shield) on my 6800, 6700, wifes Centro and even custom ordered for my Pioneer 6800DVD in my car. I really like the product, the service is second to none... That said, I think since I have used the product and know how it performs in pockets, and how to install correctly (installed dozens of shields for myself, family and friends), I may try this new product.
Screen protection has always been great and flat surfaces (side) great as well but the corners usually give way, slide and start to bubble after about 4 months of heavy in and out of the pocket use.
This is a $24 experiment begging to happen.... now if Sprint would just release the damn phone!
I would also like to know this. Can it be removed again without leaving marks on the phone?
How scratch proof is it really?
Because of the lack of info on the site (still no video's on how to apply the thing, their forum is just about empty and they don't reply to customer questions...) they really don't seem to thrustworthy ...

I would get the one released by Zagg. They offer a lifetime replacement on all products and they will replace it no questions I know. Their stuff is nearly impossible to scratch and I TRIED just about everything to scratch it. All phones full covers are $25. Never had any bubbling issues with Zagg's products.
yes it can easily be removed without any mark left at all....I found the cover started to collect dusk a lot (it must be slightly sticky) so I removed it.

Trust me, I know oh too well the replacement process and have replaced and installed many over the last 5 years.
The fact that I know the Zagg product so well, makes the experiment more interesting. I know the Zagg stuff so well that I will know if this Clear Coat stands a chance AND since it's only $25... It might turn out to be junk, the company could not stand behind the guarantee BUT we'll see.
*Update
Just got my phone yesterday and I just ordered the Clear Coat. I'll install and do a little initial write up. I'll order the Zagg shield when it becomes available and do a comparison.
It's only money and it IS a $700 device.... (but I only paid $250 for it)
Stay tuned guys.
**Update
Just ordered a Zagg full body shield at 40% off as they just got them and were doing a Halloween special I guess. I should have the Cleat Coat on Mon/Tues and the Zagg will probably be here the week after. I think I'll install the Clear Coat first, use it for a week or so and then install the Zagg and do the same.

ZAGG Screen Protector Woes

So I just picked up a ZAGG screen protector (the HD one I think it is called, with more of a glass effect/feel). Put it on an hour ago and after letting it sit turned the phone on to notice that it is too skinny for the screen. There is a nice little gap on BOTH sides (I got it on pretty damn even). Anyone else have this problem with a ZAGG screen protector? If this is the case with all of them I'm going to have to just get a refund, because it would be pointless if they send me a replacement with the exact same cut.
Also, what other screen protectors are you guys using/would you recommend if I do indeed need to switch and can't get a protector with a proper cut (without gap on both sides of the screen, it gets really noticeable and annoying on any light colored apps or backrounds).
Thanks for any help.
I had the same problem with the zagg HD. You will have to get the zagg original shield in order to cover the entire screen, but this protector has more of an orange peel effect.

Been using Tech Armor on all my devices since finding them. They are dry/static apply rather than the wet rubbery ones like Zagg. They do eventually get scratched/marked up, but you do get a 3 pack as well as a no questions asked life time replacement (all you need to do is email them with your order #, no shipping cost, no sending anything back)
Same issue with the bad cut. Going to contact them and ask for a refund. I thought I could live with it, but I can't. Going to order one of the screen protectors from Motorola's website as people have posted they cover the full face very well.
Went ahead and ordered up a Skinomi, like recommended above, yesterday. Alos shot ZAGG an email to see what they have to say about things (told them if they still haven't fixed the cut I would either need a refund or regular replacement, whichever winds up being easier, since I never mind having an extra protector laying around).
I'm I the only person that just buys like 10x screen protectors for like 5 bucks off eBay? Sure feels like it lately :what:

I used to do that back in the day.. on my blackberrys and stuff.. It works since if one gets messed up then you can just easily replace it.
But these $10+ ones are significantly better.. they stick on better, don't get the annoying bubbles as much, and might be smoother or clearer. Some of them claim to provide better protection as well but not sure how true that really is. They are also "reusable" if you wash them, but don't know anyone who actually has reused one.
I tried Xtreme Guard for my nexus 4 because it was like 85% off and i got it for the same price as the cheap ebay ones, ( ~ $1) its much better IMO. I've had it for a year on my nexus and its still on. I used the back one on it too cause it was glass on the back and could get scratched, it also helps with the grip cause its not slippery. The other cool thing is it has some self healing technology stuff that actually works, like the screen protector itself is less prone to getting scratched. And mine got some scratches that disappeared, so I guess it actually works. I was happy with it so I just got the same for my moto x., the quality is comparable to those expensive ones but price is closer to the cheap ones, when you use the discount code. Cost me like $1.50 shipped for a front and back one.

They have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. All you have to do is go to your online account and click refund. You get an RMA number to include with your return. I didn't even have someone contact me asking why I wanted to return.

Are they cut to cover the entire screen? How is the feel on the screen?
Response from ZAGG:
Thank you for contacting ZAGG and iFrogz, where we are Zealous About Great Gadgets! My name is Brittany, and I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
In regards to your email, I would like to thank you for your preference in ZAGG and our products. Looking at your order, it does appear that you purchased the Case-Friendly version of the invisibleSHIELD. Additionally the Motorola Moto X (High Definition) only comes in a Case Friendly option, which as you have found is cut shorter around the perimeter to avoid issues with a case or bumper you might have on your phone. If you are interested in the standard edge-to-edge, you are more than welcome to switch through the warranty process online at no additional cost. Keep in mind that switching to the standard edge-to-edge also means you will be switching from the High Definition to the Original invisibleSHIELD. I hope this clears up any confusion!
Does that not seem like BS to anyone else? Makeshift excuse so they don't have to redo the current batch of HD protectors?
So why would they make one protecor case friendly and the other not? So the regular protector must not work AT ALL with cases then, right??
So no other company must make a protector that works with a case AND protects the entire screen???
RIIIIGHT
Anyone else get a different response from support when contacting them? Seems kind of ridiculous, especially considering there is no mention made on the product page about this smaller cut and case friendly design, not until you email support about it that is. If that was actually the case, wouldn't they advertise this up front before people purchase one? Riiight. Well I will wait for my skinomi, apply it, and then email them back about their so called "case friendly" design,

Same response on the phone...somewhat absurd product design. I don't think the product is thick enough to bother any case...certainly not a case that has any flexibility. I was given the same offer...free exchange. Well, the old screen protector is less expensive so a trade is "huh?"...and I have to ship the new one that doesn't fit back to them. That's a pretty poor customer retention policy and one that's sure to get comments on the internet in forums where people read about their products (e.g. here)....especially since they don't describe what "case friendly" means on their web site (or in the stock blurb they give to resellers.

I'm not sure what's not to understand. They chose to make one type of protector case-friendly (so that the case won't push up the edges of the protector). They chose to make the other type of protector edge to edge. Those are apparently the two options.
When I go to their website and go to the Moto X High Definition page, it shows a checked "case friendly" under screen coverage options. I've been around smartphones and smartphone forums long enough to understand what that means. If someone didn't understand what that meant, they could contact support.
They make case friendly protectors that aren't edge to edge because a lot of cases fit very snugly on the device and the lip of the case will push up the screen protector. A lot of people put cases on their phones, and they'd rather cut the edges back than have to deal with people calling in to get replacement screen protectors because they got pushed up.

I understand just fine what that means, and I never expected edge to edge. But if you have seen one you would know there is EXCESSIVE gap, I mean, I don't know any case that covers up the edges of the ACTUAL DISPLAY on both sides. The short cut on top and bottom make it case friendly, and not going all the way to the very edge on the sides would also. There is gap between my case and the edge of the screen, then double that gap between the edge of the screen and the protector. It would be pretty poor designing by the case manufacturer that would warrant such a short side to side cut on the HD protector.
I don't think anyone is confused about what "case friendly" means, but in this case it appears to be just poor R&D.

I didn't realize you meant the protector didn't cover the actual viewable display all the way, I thought you were saying it didn't cover edge to edge on the bezels. Yeah, I can see where you're frustrated now. That's excessively case friendly!

[Q] Jumped ship form iphone 5 to note 3

Hi there,
I just bought the note 3 for verizon from Amazon and I get it tomorrow. I have some questions. I did search and I didn't see these answered.
With the phone being bigger I thought about getting a wallet case for the note 3. Does anyone have any recommendations on one that maybe you use now? I want a wallet case with kickstand but those aren't made for some unknown crazy reason. A wallet case with a kickstand would be awesome. The idea is to replace my wallet to free up room in my pocket to fit this phone heh.
Do you recommend a screen protector for the note 3? The iphone 5 uses gorilla glass and you don't really need one.
I'm pretty nervous as my experience with android was with 2.x and it was very painful. I'm hoping 4.4 is a lot better. I am pretty excited about the larger display. It'll be nice to actually see things again and browse the web without having suffer whiplash because i'm leaning over so far to see what I'm reading.
How would you rate 4.4 kitkat verses 2.x gingerbread for example?
Wallet cases mostly don't need kickstands - many of them simply fold into a triangle shape that puts the phone on an angle. Samsung phones have used gorilla glass for several years - but I'd still get a protector. I don't know if I'd bother with the glass ones - I bought a plastic clearview for mine. I also have a genuine leather wallet case with 3 x card pockets and a large cash pocket. Leaves room for the S-Pen socket and protects it all nicely.
Ahh true I've been looking and I saw some that fold. What wallet case brand do you have? There are so many I have no idea what to get. I'm looking at amazon and there are literally pages upon pages upon pages of different brands. They generally look the same but which ones are the real authentic ones that don't fall apart in 2 weeks?
Any recommendation for a screen protector? I use to know what brands to get but I've been out of the loop for awhile. I thought about just getting the verizon one and have them put it on for me since I would suck at doing it.
Oh warranty. What are your thoughts on buying a warranty with it? I thought about getting the trade square warranty from amazon.

I'd go for a tempered glass screen protector since plastic might hinder the Spen. Some popular brands are iloome and mime.

You have to look because they sell for $15 to $20 when on sale and they are good, they have 3 coils. I have three of these and use them for S3, S4, and Note 3 without problem.
I got my note 3 today. Man I'm so lost lol. I use to be able to navigate android so easily.
How do I update my note from jellybean to kitkat? I do the software update and it says it's up to date. I should google that I guess.

the update depends on your country. Some are late. The quickest way is to download the firmware from samfirmware.com and flash using pc odin. It will not trip your "knocks" counter as it is an official firmware.

Well the latest version is N900VVRUBMJE which is the samething I have and it's 4.3. Oh well I guess kit kat isn't out for note 3 on verizon.
That's pretty sweet actually. I think I want to get 2 of the wireless charging. One in the bedroom and one in the living room... why doesn't apple have this? lol

This Genuine Leather Case is what I bought. I got a screen protector from the same site.
Haven't had a single issue with the Momax Crystal Protector and S-Pen - certainly seems very responsive to touch. I tried the multitouch apps after I got the protector and found phone extremely responsive to all fingers on the screen so I doubt it's an issue. I got the plastic because I figured maybe the softer material would provide a bit more shatter protection on the off chance I dropped it. (& it was cheaper )
Note that my case DOESN'T fold but it wasn't a concern for me. They have This Case, Leather and Fold that might give you an idea of what to look for in the US - or get it shipped.
I was more interested in the extra card (3) and cash pocket
I decided on this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JA4E5JE/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's cheap and has extra card slots.

Ah well, Australia often slugs us extra for stuff. That looks like a useful wallet replacement but will be quite thick if you fill all the card slots. Mine gets to approx 2cm with 3 cards and cash in the main pocket. If I needed to carry more the one you're getting would be a definite option - I like cargo pockets so size isn't that big an issue for me.
I do like the fine leather of mine though - oozes quality.
Ha ya I already thought of that. We'll see if it doesn't work out it was only 10 bucks heh.

Material covering flash plastic?

Hi y'all.. Bought the lg g6 recently. So far loving it. I like how the phone is entirely scratch resistant however I just noticed that the material covering the flash is plastic. I saw a deep scratch and had no idea how it got there given that I've had the phone in a mil grade case ever since opening he package. I put my finger on the flash and the scratches got even worse. I'm considering returning the phone because of this, has anyone run into this??
Watch the video in youtube from jerryrigeverything to see from wich material is the flash supposed to be.

I watched both of his G6 videos - unfortunately he never did a scratch test of the material covering the flash
Really??

Really?? You're going to return a phone because of the material that was used to cover the LED camera flash?? What impact is a scratch on the plastic of your LED flash going to have on your photos?
I'm pretty sure the majority of phones out now use plastic for the flash. If you're considering returning it because of that then you should just get an iPhone. The plastic will refract the light regardless of whether there's scratches or not.

I have a Nexus 5X which is manufactured by LG - it seems to use a harder plastic because I don't see any scratches on the material covering the flash. I noticed the iPhone uses glass? for the flash? I might look into this
Confirmed. All phones use plastic on flash except for one, S8

where did you get this data?
Google mainly and the channel i told you, in the test video for the s8 he says: " first time i ever see a glass on a flashlight", so i went straight to google and in fact its true.

ok this might be a game changer for me then lol - I chose LG G6 over the S8 because the G6 has a flat screen (I hate the curved screens because of the lack of screen protectors) - however I can't stand that a premium phone like the G6 opted for plastic to cover the flash, unacceptable.
Is not only LG, every other brand is exactly the same. Mi wife has a HTC 10, and that part is indeed plastic.
If a I were you, I wouldn't worry and enjoy the phone, its amazing

I already returned my G6 because of the plastic flash issue - I think it's a really cheap plastic because everytime I lightly brushed the flash with my finger there was a new scratch... pretty crazy

Did you check your new phone to make sure the mic and earpiece holes aren't gonna collect any dust? That right there is gonna KILL your smartphone experience. Also, don't forget to check the pressure sensitivity of the volume buttons.... can't have those taking too much or too little pressure to activate, right? And you're not thinking about getting the S8, are you?? My God, man, you DO know the volume control is just a single bar instead of two distinct buttons, right?? WHAT IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY PRESS UP WHEN YOU MEAN TO PRESS DOWN?!? THE HORROR!!!
Hahahaha funny!

on a more serious note - A cnet review noted that the G6 got a "hairline fracture" on the front despite normal use... not sure why there are physical defects like this
Fair enough

I will grant you that the phone probably picks up scratches easier than it should. I imagine LG was trying to save money by not going with Gorilla Glass 5 all the way around and sapphire crystal for the camera cover. But all these hardness ratings and scratch tests exist because ALL phones scratch and chip... some more than others. You're gonna have to pay however many thousands of dollars Apple was going to charge people for a sapphire crystal-encased phone before they scrapped that idea to get something that will really stand up to scratches and "hairline fractures."

right, but a hairline fracture on the screen is absurd.. that will actually affect the viewing. My Nexus 5X is mostly plastic aside from the screen and for now I'm sticking with this phone..
What if the plastic breaks, does this affect water resistance? should I even worry about it?

P10 Lite Opinions

Hey, my current phone is on it's death bed and I need a new one ASAP. I was planning on buying a Moto G5 Plus until I starting reading all the complaints about low max volume, feeble speaker and poor microphone.
It was recommended to me that I check out the Huawei P10 Lite as an alternative. It seems like a good phone, but I became hesitant to purchase when I found out it doesn't have Gorilla Glass or even the anti-scratch coating.. and I'm batting close to 1000 when it comes to breaking screens.
I'm just curious what owners think about this phone. Are you satisfied with the purchase? Are there any common problems that I'm not aware of?
Thanks.
My wife has Moto G5 Plus, and I have P10 Lite. Both devices are great, really. Gorilla Glass shouldn't be a problem, you can get a tempered glass screen protector and that's it.
Moto G5 Plus on the other hand has a lot of cool features, but I don't like the software. I mean you don't get gallery app pre-installed, but you have to use Google photos (or download one from the PlayStore).
I also had to choose between those two devices and Huawei was a winner for me simply because of the Emui 5.1. Also, this is my first Huawei device, my wife had P8 Lite which was brilliant handset. I still didn't own Motorola so far, but my wise is pleased with it.
I hope I helped at least a bit.
I have the p10 lite and it's very prone to scratching. Not as in deep cracks but like not-very-deep nicks. They're not that obvious when using the phone but when you clean the screen and turn it off you can really see it. I don't really know how mine got scratched, but I'm pretty sure it was from pocket sand. Overall the phone works well and if you hate the emui then just download a different theme. Get a case if you're gonna use it though.
It was recommended over on another forum that I get the P10 Lite l03t since that version has the most compatible bands with MetroPCS. I googled it and couldn't find any for sale.
I was also reading that applying a Gorilla Glass protector is a giant hassle since the screen goes all the way to the edge. Is this true or do those people just suck at it?

It's true. I changed 5 or 6 glasses until I found the one that's good. I'm using PanzerGlass Full Frame now, and I'm very satisfied.

I googled PanzerGlass and it's not recommended to use a protective case with it. Something about it slightly lifting the glass and letting dirt in. That's a pretty big trade-off.. protective glass to stop scratches/cracks or a case for shock absorption and better grip (phones are real slippery without a case).
Yes, it is full coverage. But I don't have the problem, I have Nillkin Nature TPU case that doesn't lift the protector. The problem make cases that has raised edges. They lift the screen protector.
EDIT: Here are some pictures of the screen protector and the case. You can see that there's no lifting problem. By the way, pictures are made with Moto G5 Plus.
I like my P10 Lite, I find it a really nice, easy to use phone.
I am running Nova Launcher on mine though instead of Emui, but that is personal preference.
When I first got my phone I was supplied a screen protector, which I didnt like, due to the nature of the curved screen you either have to have a protector that sits just inside the edge of the screen or that slightly protrudes over the edge, both options to me didnt sit right.
My solution was to get a full wallet case to protect the screen. I chose the Nillkin Qin, as its got a tough back and nice soft area over the screen. I would recommend that case to all my friends https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_s...onics&field-keywords=Huawei+P10+Lite+qin+case
Hope that helps you decide
It may not have Gorilla Glass but I will pretty much guarantee it has some form of special glass. After all Gorilla is just a brand and I'm guessing they wanted to save money by going with a different manufacturer. There will always be cost-cutting measures when you're buying cheap phones. This is one of them.
My biggest gripes with the phone are: no IP rating, no USB-C and no regular software updates.
It's plenty fast, it actually has fast charging and it has a micro SD slot. You get a lot of phone for the price. I personally got mine on sale so even with the shortcomings: it was worth every penny.

I was considering buying a flip case, so that I can remove the screen protector, but I have read of quite a few accounts of dust getting between the case and the screen, which caused scratches on the screen. Not necessarily with the P10 Lite, but with other devices. I don't want to take that chance, but if I know that the screen can withstand getting easily scratched, I will be more than happy to remove my screen protector.

I went for the P10 lite just because the European version of the G5 doesn't have a 'compass' (only the USA version does) and if I'm not mistaken this is 'vital' if you want to use things like 'turn-by-turn directional orientated Sat-nav'
