Galaxy S6 Edge for Nexus 6P? Yer or No? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently I have Galaxy S6 Edge year and month old, I have offer ONE for ONE to change it for Nexus 6P.
I accepted it on first because I hate how Samsung slow is, I have Nexus 5 before S6, but my friend tell me to not accept it.
Guy offer me 1 month old Nexus 6P that have 11 months more warranty, but I don't know what I will lost, what not.
What you guys think?

Nexus 6P HANDS DOWN. I own both, and that's a freaking steal lol...the 6p has been out for a year, yes, but it's a fantastic device. Plus the custom rom'ing ability, etc. is unmatched. As long as there's nothing wrong with it I'm sure but you'd be stupid to not take that up imho

What about screen brightness on Android Nougat?
What about colors on screen?
Also video recording?
I read it is really point where S6 is much better and that is important to me as designer.
Thanks

Brightness on nougat is for me high, but thats probably the phone... i dont go much higher then 50% brightness.
that is really something you dont want someone else his opinion about?! I recommend that you go to a phone store and try them both out... see how you like the screens of both phones?! Isnt this also software that gives you different screen color/brightness? You can always adjust with kcal control of a custom kernel?! Or just compare the screen specs?

i've had both.
the freedom of the nexus hands down.
6p on nougat is fine, using PureNexus right now. with the amount of mods you can tweak the 6p to however you like

no way, GS6 sucks compared to the 6P...
Owned both (GS6 and GS6 edge, and 6P, and the nexus is far far more interesting to own in the end of 2016.)

6P all the way, especially with the specs and XDA development....

Thanks guys for support, what about MIDI? I use Soundcamp on Samsung for my MIDI keyboard?

My personal opinion is the nexus 6p. It's a great phone and huge support here too.

Depends on the storage size of both devices. If its 32gb, I would pass unless its cosmetic/defect free and I could sell for larger storage.
32gb=20ish free storage.

I think these photos attached should sway your decision to liking the 6P over the S6
These are wholesale prices, so what I would buy them for over what I would sell them for - meaning the price is higher if you were an everyday customer at my part time job

Hell no. This was my previous phone before my 6P. Only thing better is the camera. The experience is not nearly as fluid or smooth as the 6P and battery life was not as good either.
If it was a S7 edge, then I may consider

Why I think, just randomly all of you guys understand that I have Nexus and want to give it for Galaxy S6 Edge?

Nexus 6P all the way.
Unless you're into gimmicky features and Samsungs design

25.9 to be exact so 26gb

Just stabilization would mean 100%, but without OIS I am at 90%

Nexus 6P No Question!
6P most definitely. We have both in our family. I absolutely detest the Galaxy when I have to use it. It seems so much slower and less responsive than the Nexus 6P. I could go on and on about all of the things I like better about the Nexus and could come up with nothing I like better on the Samsung. That says it all.

iPhone 6 Plus vs Nexus 6 vs Galaxy Note 4

Came across this comparison, Nexus 6 is superior in every way except the camera.
Nexus 6 was found to have superior:
Display (qHD)
Battery (3220mAh)
RAM (3GB)
OS (Stock Lollipop, the best!)
Price,
Other features (water resistant, wireless charging, dual speakers)
I really think Nexus 6 will sell better than previous nexus devices. While the camera is still not as good as Note 4 or iPhone 6 Plus, it is still better than most of the devices out there.
Check it out.

They stated the Note 4 and Nexus 6 are a tie when it comes to the display and battery life.
Nexus 6! Game over!!
yeah im not sure about the display..in other comparisons they have stated that the note 4 panel is subtly better, with slightly crisper text and sharper image quality and i even tried to do the comparison myself and the note 4 indeed has a better display

How is TW? Is it really laggy and buggy or is it a bit improved?
Day 2 and I have to say that it's really not that different to the 3. The home key has real lag. I set up both devices exactly the same and ran side by side comparisons of app running time... And most times the Note 3 was faster. Weird. Will keep it for 13 days then return it and wait a week for my nexus 64gb to arrive!

^^The home key has real lag?
I don't have any lag with the home key. Have you turned off Svoice double tap to activate feature?
These 3 phone plus the note edge are my choices for January when I get my upgrade. I have the note 3 now and I don't feel like the note 4 is worthy of the upgrade. I finally got my hands on the edge at the at&t store. I was so excited to check it out. I left the store thinking it was pretty cool but I was still underwhelmed. So now I am down to the nexus 6 and iPhone 6 plus. At this point I'm really leaning towards the 6 plus (please don't hate). It's a personal preference type of thing.
I used to love the iPhone up to the 4s. Then I couldn't stand small screen size anymore. Fortunately for me they fixed that problem now.
I can't take touchwiz any longer and all the crap Samsung has added into the phones. That's sad to say because I have had the galaxy s, s2, s3, s4 and now the note 3.
I can't wait to check out a nexus 6 to make my final decision. I feel like it is going to be a tough one
Display is a tie? What a great joke. There is a thick chance the author doesn't even own a nexus 6. I wanted to like nexus 6 sooo much, it could've been my dream phone but unfortunately, the screen can only go as bright as 278 nits vs note 4 400+ nits and upto 700 nits in extreme bright light.
So far, note 4 NAND performance is faster. Eg better read and writes. Note 4 battery lasts longer. I think we all should be realistic. How can you call it superior ?

Note 4 display is better.
Battery is the same.
RAM is the same.
OS is irrelevant.
Price is also too close to call.
Front speakers and water resistance is it. Wireless charging is possible on the Note 4.
Do some research before spreading crap.

That's on manual brightness nits don't mean everything there are other factors. All the reviewers say the screen is excellent and easy to read in day light. Gsm arena review display
The note only has faster read times because it is not fully encrypted on Lollipop. Just wait until it gets it. Also the nexus 6 is smoother than the note all around through the operating system and within apps. The battery life is similar.
dont be saying around that the nexus 6 has a very display because thats not true

Really curious about how you went about "trying out the note 4". Because I am really wanting to do this exact thing with both the iPhone 6 Plus and the Note 4 to decide if I'd want to switch to iOS or continue my crapwiz adventure, or try out the N6. I am on verizon and I see they have a $35 restocking fee if you return a product within 14 days. Is their a way around this? How'd you do it? What's your carrier?
From AnandTech who does very thorough objective testing. Traditionally they're pretty rough in their Samsung reviews and fairly "pro" Nexus with value taken in to account in their findings. With pricing similar to other high-end devices the Nexus 6 and 9 can't play the value card anymore.
Battery
The first test is our WiFi web browsing test which loads a set of web pages in a loop with pauses to avoid penalizing phones with faster SoCs than others. In this test we see that the Nexus 6 does perform somewhat poorly. Compared to Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 which has essentially the same specifications on paper, the Nexus 6 lasts 4.27 hours shorter. It is likely that this can be attributed to the display, which may not be as efficient as the latest and greatest AMOLED panel used in the Note 4.
Display
Overall, the Nexus 6 display is quite poor relative to the displays on other smartphones like the Galaxy Note 4, iPhone 6, and HTC One (M7). It's also a definite regression from the display on the Nexus 5, which is concerning given the fact that the Nexus 6 is $300 more expensive. It has been speculated that Motorola is unable to source the latest generation of panels from Samsung Display, which would explain why many of the panel characteristics are similar to previous generation AMOLED panels in the Note 3 and Galaxy S4. Although the efficiency of AMOLED displays when displaying black helps to reduce power usage with features like Ambient Display which wakes up the phone when notifications arrive or it is picked up, I don't believe it's worth the trade-off if it involves such heavy sacrifices in color accuracy and brightness.
Camera
I'm very happy with the improvements Google has made to their camera on the Nexus 6. I no longer feel like Nexus devices will always be a generation behind the competition when it comes to camera quality. Google and Motorola should also congratulate themselves on their white balance algorithm which helped the Nexus 6 to take photos that better reflected how the scenes actually looked in real life. I hope Google will continue to improve their camera software to make the user interface less menu driven, and to improve capture times for photos which is the one area that the Nexus 6 really falls behind its competition.

I went from the 6 Plus to the Note 4 then back to the 6 Plus. Bought the 6 Plus at the Apple Store and the Note 4 at Best Buy. Neither have restocking fees. Even got to keep my $200 Best Buy gift card when I returned the Note. I also have the Nexus on preorder through Motorola with a December 2nd delivery date. I currently have the 6 Plus. Not bad but Apple was not ready for the big screen. So many apps are big and clunky. I've had a lot of random reboots and the screen isn't all that special.

I went from Note 3 to 4 and the lag and fluidity improvements are quite noticeable. Here's why...

Qualcomm ROMs also have major issues mostly regarding camera - I'm not up to date with it.
They have fixed any discernible delay and lag as far as I can see in the Note 4 (and Alpha). The lag in previous versions were due to the userspace DVFS hooks, and that got totally rewritten in the Alpha and Note 4.
And btw you can just turn off those services and replace the stock keyguard - there goes your lag.

So you're recommending me I go through a retailer to try out these phones, and then just return before the typical 14 day policy? Did you bring it to your carrier to use it? Or did you just use it with wifi? I feel like if you went through your carrier for the service it'd cause more problems.

I was on the Next program with the first iPhone and a 2 year contract with the Note. Both signed through AT&T. Yes, neither retailer have restocking fees. If I would have went through AT&T they would have charged me $35 for the first one and blocked me from returning the Note. I would have been stuck. Went back to the Apple Store for my current 6 Plus.

Nexus 6P or Note 5

Has anyone received the Nexus 6P that already had the Note 5?
I was wondering which one you liked more, and why?
I have them both, just received my 6P. The Note 5 has the edge right now because of its multitasking capabilities. I have to use it more before being more definitive.

Custom ROM's on the 6p have aosp multitasking option in developer options. It's experimental but it does work on every app (I think you need to root the note 5 to use any app, I did for my s5 and note 4) it works though I'm using it right now for xda app and hangouts

That is called multiwindow. And nexus 6p has it better because it works with every app. Note 5 has better camera and feels more premium. It is a boring device that will never take full advantage of hardware because of ****ty software code that Samsung puts in it.

Had a at&t note 5 for 3 weeks before getting my nexus 6p and the nexus 6p is more so the right phone for me ....the front facing speakers are great like my old nexus 6 but even better , the software experience on the nexus is more fluid than the note 5 , the note 5 does have a brighter display , the note 5 does have a slightly better camera but both are great! , battery life so far is better on the nexus 6p, never had ram issues with my note 5 so multitasking is about even even besides the dual window option's on the note , you get more storage on the nexus out of the box 25gb usable on the nexus only had around 20gb usable on the note....i don't seem to miss the s pen much nor do I miss wireless charging....but to sum it up both phones are great

I wouldn't go as far to say all of that. However, it is true Samsung handicaps what can be done by the device. Hardly any useful apps can be used to multitask I just came from the note 4 and I'll tell you that I'd ditch multitasking and all of tw features in a heartbeat for this phone. Plus I don't like the way Samsung is designing their new phones. Hate the metal design time and time again plastic has been the better material, no removable back or SD port. They killed off the main reason why I would even buy a Samsung flagship over the nexus line. And this is someone who has had every note except the 5 and had the s1 and 2.
*edit
I've never felt the note 5 to be premium. I prefer the note 4 over the 5 build quality and the camera is better on the 6p.
It's just my opinion, multi-window is true multitasking. You don't necessarily have to hide one app to use the next one. That's the same thing the iPhone uses.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Well, since I just sold my Note 5 for the 6P, I guess my answer would be the 6P.
I just got it today, so my experience with the 6P is somewhat limited but here are my thoughts (I'll leave the price difference out of it, but that's obviously a huge factor as well):
The Note 5 is probably the BEST phone on the market right now, period. Features, power, design, it has everything. Everything except being a Nexus and running stock Android. This means the 6P has a noticeably smoother and, in my opinion, better UI. The Exynos CPU is undoubtedly faster. This is most noticeable when launching apps. The Note 5 will definitely beat the 6P there. That said, would you even notice if you didn't have them side by side? Probably not. The Snapdragon 810 is no slouch and nothing feels slow when you're using the phone. So to me, the Note 5 has an overall negligible edge on power when it comes to actual use. As for the multitasking capabilities mentioned above, unless you mean the split screen which usually seemed like little more than a gimmick to me, the multitasking is pretty bad on the Note 5. It has an extra GB of memory, and yet it still constantly kills apps. Hopefully Samsung tweaks that more with future updates because I feel the 6P probably has the advantage in multitasking at the moment.
The Note 5 also has a slightly better screen. They say they are the same panel, but I suspect either Huawei gets the slightly lower quality screens of the two, or Samsung still has some tricks up their sleeve to optimize their own screen, or probably a little of both. That would explain the number of screen complaints on the 6P while the panel is still relatively new to production. Again, assuming you don't get a pink screen like some, the screen still looks every bit as good for the most part. I can't imagine anyone complaining about a good 6P screen. Samsung has a brightness setting called The Face of the Sun which I don't miss forgetting to turn back to adaptive before looking at the phone in the middle of the night. I haven't really used the phone when it was really bright outside yet, so I can't say for sure if I miss the extra brightness there, but again I have no complaints about the 6P.
The camera is also better in the Note 5, but the 6P's is pretty damn good too, and if you care that much, get a real camera and stop trying to take pictures on your phone. That's pretty much the end of that discussion for me. The main reason I got the Note 5 was because Samsung finally designed a nice phone again, but again, the 6P feels equally premium. In fact, while I respected the design of the Note 5 and wanted to like it, I kind of didn't. Something about the feel of it just never felt quite right to me. I still think a glass back on a phone is stupid, just like it was when Apple did it and learned their lesson. I very much like the look and feel of the 6P, especially the Frost version that I have. The back of the Note 5 is too rounded and it makes the already slippery glass back feel like a bar of soap in your hand. Oh, and one last feature that was actually pretty important to me on the Note 5 was the wireless charging. Too bad it doesn't work half the time.
Now, onto the 6P. Like I said, the 6P has more than enough processing power, a more than good enough camera and screen (again assuming a good one), and a fantastic design and feel. Remember that sinking feeling you got when that first 6P pic leaked? It's light years better in person. I really do like the design of this phone. It reminds me of my One which was one of my favorite phones. Being that we are all here on XDA, the advantage of the 6P is that it DOESN'T have the Exynos processor. I had the Note 5 less than a month and was already getting annoyed that I would never be able to have anything but the stock software or small mods on top of it. Touchwiz was incredibly better since I last saw it, but it's still pretty ugly, in particular the notification drawer in the Note 5 really bugged me compared to stock Android. Because of all this, the smoothness of the 6P makes it feel like a faster device during normal use. You'd never know it was a little slower without having them side by side. And of course, there's always the time difference in receiving updates. Sure you'll get Marshmallow on the Note 5, and probably pretty soon. But every update after that will start getting more questionable and probably slower as other phones become their priority.
So in conclusion/tl;dr, they are both at the very top of the list of best phones on the market. The speed differences aren't something you'd ever even know most of the time without directly comparing them, and you'd be forgiven to think the 6P might even be faster. They both top the list in nearly every category. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed in either phone. If you value any of the Samsung specific bits like the stylus, then the Samsung is for you. If you value the ability to modify the software on your phone and receive updates as soon as they are available, the 6P is for you. If you have either, consider yourself lucky to have one of the best phones on the market. I switched because I wanted to be able to use real ROMs and kernels, not just the tease you get with an Exynos device, and I wanted updates ASAP, even as previews. I suspect most people who are here on XDA probably value this as well, which is fairly evident by the fact that a month newer device has WAY more activity on here.
Dude I was scared to do the switch. The 6P MURDERS the note 5 (in my opinion).
Don't be scared if you're on the same boat, or at least try it and if you don't like it, just send it back.

Coming from a Nexus 6

I'm coming from a Nexus 6, I'm not sure how I'll readjust to the "small" screen, I'm currently debating between the S7 Edge and the LG G5.
Got any advice on which phone to chose?
I'd go with a note but they won't be announcing one for another year, and I don't want to wait for the S7 Edge+
Thanks!

I have the V10 and I like it, but the S7 Edge is gorgeous, so I'm thinking of taking the plunge. The G5, while innovative, will require many subsequent investments I would think, which is kind of a deal breaker for me, since I upgrade every 6 months or so. No point in buying a phone and then plunking down a lot of money on the add-ons if I'm only going to keep it a short while. Plus, it sounds like an accessory bag may be needed for the G5!! :silly:

I have a Nexus 6 too atm and also seriously considering the Galaxy S7 ha ha. From the few hands-on video`s and reports i saw i think that atm the S7 is the overall better phone of the two. Maybe wait a few weeks and wait for real reviews so you have more info to base an opinion on. The S7 screen is a bit bigger (5,5 vs 5,3 inch for the G5). But both are great phones and i don`t know if the SD 820 is better or worse then the Exynos 8890 (at least used in Europe).
LG G5 looks ugly compared to Galaxy S7.
LG G5 no app's drawer. so think about it.
i will go for galaxy S7 becauase of water proof, and bigger battery. and looks alot better especially the Gold color. edge is the most sexy phone ever.
if i wanted to go for LG then i will go for LG V10 instead. if you like big phones.

No app drawer is a non-issue with android. Simply use a 3rd party launcher - most of which are better than stock anyway.

There is an app drawer, watch XDA's YouTube channel.
Is the S7 5.5 inches?
GSMArena said it was 5.1 inch screen

It's all good, do you think I should get a S7 Edge or a G5, I'm waiting for the Edge to come out so I can compare it to my N6, but I don't want to wait 2 months for the G5 :/

I'm an LG fan - have had the G3, G4 and V10 and I've loved the rear volume and power buttons. I'm probably not the best person to ask because I change phones almost as much as I change my underwear :silly:, but to me, there is a much larger investment than just the phone. If you are anything like me, you'll want most, if not all of the add-ons. While I don't know what they will cost, I doubt they will be cheap. That, combined with the fact that there probably won't be 3rd party versions of those add-ons, means several hundred dollars more to pour into the G5. Considering how long I keep a phone, it makes no sense for me, but if you plan on keeping if for a long time, it might be a great device! I am about 90% sure I'll pre-order the S7 Edge tonight after midnight. It's flat-out gorgeous, and now that it's waterproof and has a micro-sd slot (why only a max of 200gb is beyond me, but it's enough for me), and a huge battery, it might be the perfect phone!
Hope this helps a little....

Are you not bothered by the "small" screen?
I'm assuming you're coming from a G4, I'm coming from a N6, trying to use my girlfriends iPhone 5c is like unbearable, do you think I'll have the same problem with the S7 Edge?

The S7 Edge's screen is 5.5, right? That's only .2 smaller than my V10 (current phone). I am only 5'7", and my hands are pretty small. I use a strap on the V10 to keep from dropping it, so no, I won't lose sleep over -.2". The 5C is much smaller than the S7 E.
Nexus 6 is much bigger, so yeah you will have some significant adjustments to make. I love the nexus 6 keyboard space and the fact that i dont reach for a tablet nearly as much when using it is a plus. Any phone over 5 inches is a two hander for typing or using quickly to me, especially the slippery ones. So why not go big, but thats just my opinion. Next time your out hold your nexus next to an iphone 6s plus and you will see the screen size difference. My mental block about the s7 edge is the 32gb only offering. If they only offer one size why not make it the medium 64gb of last years offerings. They want to push gaming on us but then give us a very limited 32gb phone. Makes no sense to me. What will make me really mad is if they offer a 64gb version about 3 months later after all the initial buyers and hype subside.

Samsung stated they only put 200gb because that's all the market has to offer right now. I'm sure the interface will still be the same for larger cards (1TB, 2TB), like LG G5 spec.
Read or saw it on a video somewhere, forgot.

Nexus 6P or Galaxy S7 ?

Hey guys
I'm going to buy a new phone next week , and I'm not sure what to buy .. first I was planning to get Nexus 6P since I'm a nexus fan since Galaxy Nexus , then Samsung announced the S7 and S7 Edge with pretty impressive specs and they're going to be available next week here
the price is the same ((Nexus 6P 64 gb version and the regular S7))
every phone has it's ups and downs for example the nexus phones are not popular here and it's really hard to find accessories for it and it's going to be very hard to fix the phone if the screen broke or something
and for the S7 touchwiz is a major turnoff for me with it's awful RAM management + scrolling lag (( not sure if they fixed it or not in the S7)) plus we'll have the exynos variant here so no AOSP ROMs
If you were me what you're going to buy ?
I returned my 6p after the case buckled at the volume rocker after a week of use.
Waiting for my S7 Edge now.

This may help.. My 6P has had a few issues and I am waiting for a replacement. Sure the build quality is not as good as the S7, but given the choice, I would not switch to the S7. The software performance on the 6P is unmatched in my opinion.
However, you can't go wrong with either.. Samsung did a good job with the S7/edge
6P. The S7 is better on paper but, in the end, it's still a Samsung so the software will constantly be making it worse than it actually is. Also, the updates won't be as fast as Google's obv (not even close).
IMHO the quality of the software is moot if the phone falls apart in your hand.

I have a 6P now, and I'm waiting for my S7 Edge to get here so I can switch over to it.

I own both phones - and I have to say that the fact that GOOGLE keeps the Nexus updated very regularly is tempting - heck, there is already a preview out for ANDROID N that you can flash for goodness sake - but despite that - the Galaxy S 7 Edge is a phenomenal phone - NONE BETTER that I have seen or used EVER. Benchmarks are off the charts - (in a manner of speaking) 138,750 was my most recent Antutu benchmark test. The camera is incredible -the phone looks fantastic - feels great in the hand - (actually feels smaller than what you think a 5.1 inch screen should feel) I have no regrets at all.
So - if yuo are a huge AOSP fan and need those very frequent updates then go with the Nexus - it is a great phone and you won't ever be disappointed about having to wait too long to get the next android update - but if that is not your number 1 reason for buying a phone, then I strongly recommend the Galaxy S 7 Edge.
Whatever you do - you will love the phone - they are both awesome. Oh and by the way, Samsung did a really nice job on Touchwiz this time - best implementation ever for all of their phones. It still ahs some bloat, but nowhere near what past phones have had. Do your self a favor - do not listen to people who have not personally used the S7 Edge for any length of time - who are haters of Samsung and would blast any Samsung phone regardless of the quality - but make your choice based on what is MOST important to you - you can't go wrong.
Simple. Which do you prioritize more: Hardware or software? If hardware, go with the S7. If software, go with the 6P. Although waterproofing aside, the 6P is no slouch in the hardware department either.
6p now have android n, if you like software 6p its for you, hardware go for s7 egde
Lagwiz..

I say get the s7 and wait for the next nexus this year. I don't think the 6p is worth it at the moment imo.
Nexus6P + XDA = Winner! You can do the same math for the next Nexus!

Galaxy s7 edge or nexus 6p

I currently have the galaxy s7 edge and my friend has the nexus 6p. I was thinking about trading with him. Do you all think that would be a good trade for me or should I keep the s7 edge?

Assuming both are in good shape and you want the Nexus, I would sell the S7 Edge and buy a new Nexus 6P. Your model of the S7 in mint condition is selling for an average of $650 or so on Swappa and a brand new Nexus 6P starts at $450 for 32GB.
keep the s7 edge..

Money wise not worth it, you can sell your s7 and buy new 6p lol
Sell your S7Edge and buy the nexus 6p brand new and you will recoup 150$
I say 6p. I've used the s7 and it's just like the s6. The incremental processor upgrade is big on paper but unnoticeable in real life use. you could get a used s6 for cheaper. Not worth it IMO. The 6p gets updated monthly and will have N when it's released in Q3. The value of a Nexus device is undeniable.
Without question the S7 Edge imo.
If you like to tinker with your phone, the 6P is the only way to go. I'd sell the Galaxy, buy a 6p, and use the extra cash for some brewskis.
Get 6P only if You're Nexus die-hard fan, otherwise keep S7.
Nexus 6P is still very solid and capable device, but S7 has far better camera - both hardware and software - better battery, SD card support and superior screen witch is much brighter outdoors. Of course touchwiz can be a pain it the ass, but installing meterial theme from samsung apps and custom launcher will do the job.

Overdid it saying far better camera. Nexus 6p has just as good camera as many reviews already proved, even in low light you get pictures that are a bit darker compared to s7, but with way less noise. Agree on other points tho, battery, sd slot, dont know about screen, happy with mine no problems here. Overall s7e better device, but pricier.
Well I had the buy one get one free deal so I got two

Ok, camera is not that bad, but it lacks of ois and good software, because Google camera app is a bit disappointment. Other than that Galaxy S7 is still better device. But if you are nexus lower then there's no way around than 6P
