Battery life discussion - Sony Xperia XZ Guides, News, & Discussion

Let's get the ball rolling on this one! Post your battery usage and screen on time

1 day, with 3.12 minutes of screen on time with 4% remaining. Sorry I don't have any screenshot to show.

I got close to 5 hrs. SOT on the first charge. Used the phone a lot that day all on 4G. 1 hour of phone calls over Bluetooth, 45 minutes navigation, updating and downloading apps and a lot of web surfing.

Dismal Battery life
So, I'm averaging between 2 to 2.5 hours of SOT.
This is with WiFi on, BT off, location used periodically (like while booking an Uber), NFC off.
I have been using this phone for 3-4 days now and thought the battery life would improve but this is dismal.
Can anyone share some tips?
My brightness levels are at 50% and not on auto.
I'm new here so I can't post pictures/links

I get more than that from my xa with a 2300mah battery and no stamina mode, I'm getting anywhere between 3.5-5hrs screen time depending on where I am and what I'm doing at the time brightness at 40%.
Have you turned off the WiFi and Bluetooth always scanning in the background even if they are both turned off go to settings, location and tap the three dots top right, then turn both sliders to the off position. Made a world of difference my xa battery life.
Sent from my Xperia XA using XDA Labs

Was on wifi the whole day

I've been using the phone about a week now. I am very satisfied with my battery life so far. Last night I flashed the UK firmware to access the Battery Care feature as well as the fingerprint sensor. We will see if my battery life changes post firmware flash, but it seemed to do fine today. I unplugged it at 7am this morning and its now 10pm and I am still at 50% battery. Every day I have been able to comfortably reach the end of the day with 1/3 or more battery life, typically over 40%. When I am not using my phone heavily I turn stamina mode on, then if I want to sit down and use it I'll just switch it off. The battery life is much nicer than my Galaxy S5, Xperia Z5, and I find it to be somewhat better than my Galaxy S7 as well.
Well apparently I won't be able to post my screen shots until I post 8 more times. So I'll just write out the stats I have.
Using GSAM battery monitor pro
Averages per complete charge:
Battery Life: 22 Hours 20m (7 hours 49min active)
Screen on: 4 Hours 31 minutes (max 4 hours 48 min )
and upon the time of posting this I was at 50% battery. The phone has been powered on for 14 hours and 18 minutes.
Phone active for 20 minutes
screen active for 3 hours
cell and wifi on all 14 hours
held awake for 1 hour and a half
Edit: I should also mention I run the Nova Prime launcher

I average between 3.5 hours and 5.5 hours SoT while there's 50% battery remaining.
It's mostly calls, calls forwarded feom my business phone, MyBoy, a lot of chrome usage and a bit of other stuff.
The best battery life in a Sony flagship phone.
Beats my previous Z1C, Z3C and Z5C, and it utterly destroys the LG G4.

wow! Everyone seems to be getting at least 3.5+ hours of SOT. wonder if I should give those guys at Sony a call and check with them!

Anyone experiencing huge battery drain from Android OS?

So I had this phone for 3 days now. 1st day was setting it all up which of course drained the battery faster than usual. 2nd day I wasn't getting any signal and realized I needed to set up the APN settings for T-Mobile so I couldn't really test the out the battery life under my normal usage. Today, I went from full to 75% in a matter of an hour and a half. This is not normal. My normal routine is starting up streaming music services such as Stitcher, Spotify, and a couple others and maybe 10 mins of browsing during my 35 min commute on the subway train. At times I get spotty coverage during the commute so I understand the phone is working harder than normal to get signal. But that 25% drain should not be normal. I was getting at most a 11% drain with my z3 and 15% drain with my note 7 under similar circumstances. I will give it a full week or two and hopefully things will settle down a bit. If not, this is a huge concern and I may have to return it.

Give it a couple cycles and play around with the stamina mode settings. Lithium batteries generally won't output their full capacity until 5-10 charge and discharge cycles. That being said your battery life does sound somewhat short depending on what you have running in the background. I Use the memory booster application to monitor my RAM and clean it every so often which saves some battery life as well. But I would give it a couple cycles and see if you still experience a shorter than expected life

Screenshots taken at 15% remaining because that's when I have stamina mode set to kick in.

Today's usage was a fair bit of Google maps (screen on for about 3hours.) Using around ~75% of battery.
Plenty of YouTube via chromecast (screen on for 1hour)
For whatever reason battery stats are not showing me YouTube usage. When going into app Info you see 0% which is a lie. Because beyond he 1hour chromecast session I then used it for another 15minutes via the phone itself. So that stat is wrong because it certainly consumed battery.
100% unplugged at 5am. Screen off until I officially woke up at 8am. Still 100%. Proving the phone sleeps brilliantly.
Then the video attached taken at 1% illustrates the usage detailed above - giving a total ~12.5hours with quite intense usage.

My record SOT STAMINA automatically 25%

Well to be fair MyBoy is one of the most efficient apps you can run on a phone. My GS7 could hit 7h of screen on time on that, double what it can usually achieve doing just about anything else.

Not really happy with the xz battery... Being a 1080p display and sd820...i expected it to do lot better

This battery is weird. Most days I get around 5 Hours of SoT around 20% battery life left but yesterday I was at 50% battery life at 5h30m of SoT. Unfortunately I didnt screenshot it but it was draining super slowly I have no idea why, my usage didnt change, still used the same apps. It happens every once in a while.
Also does anyone else have severe drain with Android System? It shouldnt be surpassing my Display drain at 50% brightness. I would show screenshot but Im a new user.

Battery so far is great for me. This was with 15proc left, so could easily reach 7hours.

Wow most of you have really good battery life and SoT! I'm getting around 3-3.5 hr max sot over a 12-14 hr period... Anything I should be doing besides uninstalling some social apps (which I use but could exchange with web apps)

Battery life

Has anyone seen awesome battery life with this thing or is it just me!? It's been off the charger for 4h20m and the battery is as 87%. wifi off, gps off, bluetooth off, sync ON. just text messaging all day, maybe 20 texts total (slow day today). little bit of facebook, little bit of email, thats about it, so i didn't really do much with the battery but even so with this kind of use my evo would probably be down to around 70%.
battery indicator pro says the display is responsible for 64% of the power drain and cell standby is only 12%, whereas my evo usually had around 50% cell standby and display was only like 8%. was the evo just really bad at holding a signal or what? my display is at middle brightness, if you use the power control widget.
can anyone else tell me how much % their display uses? and what their battery life is like?
after typing this post it's only dropped 1%. word.
Personally, I don't have much of a basis for comparison. I just got my Shift on an upgrade from an aging Samsung feature phone. I've heard all about the horrid battery life on the Evo. My brother has one and can't get a full day of use.
I was out with a real estate agent looking at houses for 6 hours yesterday. We used the GPS a little bit. I was checking NFL playoff scores every hour or so. I was also texting/emailing lightly. 4G was off. By the evening when I put it back on the charger it was still in the green. I didn't look at the power meter specifics... wish I did.
And today I'm just about to leave the office right now. I'm at 8 hrs, 59 min since unplugged with 6/10 green battery bars. (Hey... how do I get the exact percentage? Thanks!)
Display is 62% of my usage (It's set to Auto-brightness). Android system is next at 20%... Light email/texting use all day long at work. Played games for 30 minutes during lunch. Downloaded some new apps (using 4G). Wi-Fi and GPS off all day.
Overall it's a little better than I expected. But I know I haven't really had a heavy day of use yet.
Battery Indicator Pro is a great app that runs in your menubar and displays the percentage for you.
glad we're on the same page with the display, though
I almostmreturned the phone. My cycles were:
1st 8+ hours
2nd 4 hours
3rd 2 hours
Did a factory reset on the phone and it has started to turn around.
4th 9:40 min and at 30% when on the charger
5th 10:46 and still going. Battery is at 30%
I've recharged twice since I got it on Saturday. This seems great, coming from the sprint hero
Exactly. My hero sucked. I used my phone lightly and had it without a charge for over 24 hours. Did some playing around setting it up and then some light texting, emailing, and 4g usage. Then turned off 4g. Amazing.

This isn't your dream phone, it's the one after that. You gotta take it out and play with it more!
I've had to charge it twice a day since the sixth, battery life has been terrible.
I have all the stuff disabled, it just seems to drain even when nothing is running.
I did have an issue with terrible signal on the first day, once I did ##DATA# it fixed it, but my battery life is sucking it up badly.
Sent from my bathroom, with toilet paper.
Just got my wife a shift earlier today and ran it down from the half life that came with the battery in about...6 hours. That was with near constant use, the screen on max, wifi, and sync. Plus GPS on for awhile too. Compared to my epic which with similar use can go...maybe 6 hours from full? It depends. I'll be comparing her battery usage to mine over time and I'll post after she gets some use from a full charge. Under normal usage I can get up to 28 hours from my Epic so people reporting horrible battery life must be doing something wrong or have a defective battery. I fully expect her to get a couple days life out of each of her charges though she'll probably throw it on the charger every night.
anyone have an explanation of why the screen is the largest amount of usage under battery stats? yesterday was an average day for me and the display was something like 50%. on my Evo cell standby was always the highest and the display was down around 8 or 10%
edit: this morning the phone has been unplugged for an hour and a half and cell standby is 50% and the display is 11%... *scratches head*
I just switched to Sprint a couple days ago and got an EVO 4G; I am really unhappy with the battery life and though I got them to give me an extended battery for free it still seems like it's dying very quickly. I am a heavy data user and it's driving me crazy; does anyone have any experience going from the EVO 4G to the Shift and, if so, what are your thoughts, particularly in regards to battery life? Is it worth the loss of size and cameras?
i went from the evo to the shift (30 day swap deal) and i haven't even looked back. the battery life is STELLAR as far as i'm concerned. the evo sucked down power like nobody's business. i'm sure if you got an extended battery for the shift it would last you 2 days at least.
All I gotta say is my extended battery experience is amazing. I get about 36 hours out of my evo. Yea it looks a little fugly now but fck it I can abuse it as much as I want too with battery to spare.

I just got the extended battery and haven't charged it overnight yet, but so fast I am very concerned that it is not living up to expectations. However I won't make any quick judgments until I've seen how it does over a couple days.
My Hero got better battery life.

Typical use for me is pulling the phone off the charger at 5am, light to moderate use throughout the day (texting, facebook/twitter, apps updating ~2-4 hours, etc) and then putting back on the charger at 9pm.
I upgraded from the Hero. The Hero was rooted and running AOSP w/ modified kernel and collin's battery tweak. Battery life was impressive, but performance was an issue. I could routinely get 30+ hours battery life with the type of use listed above (battery was usually 50% or more when I'd put it back on the charger).
With the Shift, battery life is surprisingly good. For some reason I lose ~10% within the first hour, but after that, it seems to settle down and by the end of the day I'm still at ~30% (with the type of use listed above).
Based on what was possible with the custom ROM's and kernel tweaks for the Hero, I'm excited to see what the community can do with the Shift once we get root.
That first 10% drop seems normal for the new HTC phones. I know the Evo does the same thing. Just the way they're charging the batteries

I found this article helpful in understanding the ~10% dropoff when first off the charger.
At what setting do you all have your screen brightness set? Do you use the auto-brightness option. I find consistently that the overwhelming majority of battery use (according to that screen in the settings) is from the display.

Perfect Phone except for battery

I got my SGSII on Sunday and I am extremely pleased with it. Its like the phone of my dreams in almost every way. It's responsiveness, its camera, its form factor, its screen, everything about it was great. Until I noticed that the battery was being drained kinda fast. I rooted it within a day and tried every ROM available so far but none of them alleviated my battery issue. I've read and tried every solution on these forums but nothing works.
I lose approximately 10 percent of battery every 30 minutes and have gained a maximum battery battery life of 8 and a half hours. Ive Frozen most of sammy's bloatware and have optimized it as much as i can. i disabled fast dormancy everything.... I just dont know what to do.
Did you try restoring original Samsung firmware, factory reset with full wipe, and then doing initial setup prior to getting on wifi?
Try this, don't config any account besides google, don't install any software and certainly don't freeze any apps. Monitor phone for a few hours and then post screenshots of Battery Use app for us to see.
I get about 15+ hrs worth.of battery.
With heavy exchange (push) email and quite a few apps.
My problem is random reboots especially when playing music.

Give it some time. Battery life improves quite a bit after some discharge cycles. Do a factory reset and reinstall as some have mentioned above.
And remember some apps can cause the OS to misbehave.
That's the reason I sold mine. Battery life was unacceptable. Other than that, perfect phone!!! Still looking at this forum hoping for solution to battery problem. Would definitely buy the device back then.

Thanks for the advice first thing in the morning ill flash KE7, which is what my phone came with, and report back with screenshots and after a few hours.
Any smartphone battery need at least a good month before reaching the maximum potential.
Just wait a couple of days and use custom kernel with SetCPU.
My ex-Arc did the same, first day battery droped 7% every hour on idle but after a week battery could last 3 days
if u continue in this topic its very better. 1 topic about battery is more better

For me, it's simply because i'm battering the phone with internet use, and generally playing around with it constantly all day while at work.
I get a full day, sometimes two now, depending on how I use it.
My old HTC Desire used to need charging twice a day, until I got my SGS 2, now the Desire needs a charge once every 3 or 4 days, due to the fact I am playing with my new toy! lol
I'd say battery life will improve as time goes on and usage of the phone goes from all day, to normal smart phone usage
In all seriousness, the SGS two outlasts my Desire easily, which is good enough for me. I struggle to kill the SGS 2 in a day.
If you are losing 10% per half hour, is that with the screen on? If so, that is fairly normal. I find that 5 hours of screen on time is the most you'd normally get. If its in standby mode (screen off) and you are losing that much per half hour then something is wrong.
Those you of who are getting amazing battery life, would love to see a screenshot with more than 5 hours screen on time - just to see if it is possible. 3 or 4 days means nothing if its in standby 99% of the time

Yep, how you use the phone is huge. Screen brightness and many other factors like installed apps and what they are doing can have a major impact on batt life. IMO battery life is almost impossible to compare except your own in static usage after making changes. Even idle batt life is effected by push email, weather, etc. In my own usage I was getting poor battery life to start with (multiple charges per day) or was I? There I was screwing around with the phone constantly. Loading this, uninstalling that, taking browsers for test drives, trying launchers, flashing roms, seeing how different games played, showing other people the phone, and so on. The excitement wore off and I got to normal usage (for me) which since I unplugged 17 hours ago is 18 texts, 7 calls all of which were short, and assorted stuff like doing a search, a little web browsing following the search and so on. I'm at 61% showing on batt and my largest user was screen with 59% and then OS with 11%. So this is pretty obvious, cant make it through the day hammering the phone but no problems with what I think most people would consider light usage. Where I'm going is that I think some people may not realize how much they are using their phones in their wahoo new phone frenzy.

Quoted for truth! With normal daily usage about 12-14 hours off the charger you'll see 5 hours of display at the most. GSMArena has done some tests and in airplane mode playing a video on loop on 50% brightness can last a bit over 8 hours. Once you add in having to maintain a cell signal, wifi, push email, idling for another couple hours, it reduces your possible screen time in favor for those other activities.
The best ways to conserve battery are to make sure you don't have rogue apps that are keeping your phone awake when it should be sleeping. Check your battery graph and actually CLICK on the graph to expand it to check if your "awake" bars line up with your "screen on" bars. If they don't, something is wrong and you have to find out what's causing it to stay awake. If you've been browsing (white) websites on wifi for 5 hours and complain when the phone says low battery... tough. You're using the display, wifi, maintaining a cell signal, as well as viewing sites that strain the SAMOLED display the most - white backgrounds.
Based on my experience, my battery life is actually quite good. After 4 hours of idling and only about 20m of display on (auto brightness) I'm still at 91%. After a day's use with about 1h of screen time and 14 hours off the charger (about my avg workday usage) I end up around 65-75% which I consider not too bad and can definitely go 2 days on my average usage. Basically minimizing the battery draw when the screen is off is key since when the screen is on, nothing can stop it from draining the battery.

Mine,
From 100% to Full drain (Switch Off). Total usage 1d 19h. At 20% Brightness. On XWKE8. More than 5 or 5½ hours is NOT possible, whatever you do. It's not that I am impressed with it, 5 hours isn't enough, 7-8 hours would be good though

Well i left my phone idle for approx. 5hrs and im dwn to 63% but now im noticing a problem that i havent noticed before... my Android OS is now taking up 38% with which is more than Display which only took 21% and the phone was constantly waking up. You must have SOMETHING that is eating up the CPU. If you are out of guesses, do a factory reset with data wipe, restore original firmware (if you flashed a custom rom), do another factory reset, configure only gmail, and then monitor the battery usage. It would be losing at most 2% an hour in standby. For me it was 1% every 2 hours (with absolutely nothing running except google) when I tested. I the slowly added my apps making sure I do not install crap and do not configure osmething to always do some **** I do not want.
I don't understand these "battery life sucks" threads.
I have an Unlocked SG2 with stock ROM. It is not rooted, I have not frozen any apps. I have four exchange accounts syncing on push, social networks up and running and widgets on all of my screens. I text and check e-mail frequently throughout the day and I use the camera here and there.
I always get at least 15 hours out of my battery, if not more. For comparison, I was using an iPhone 4 under the same conditions (with the same accounts syncing) minus any widgets or automatic social updates and I was getting roughly the same battery life.
No, this phone won't last you a week with heavy use, but you should easily get a day out of it and I rarely find myself in a situation when I can't charge it overnight. This phone is on par with all of the best battery life smartphones out there, as far as I'm concerned. Those of you getting horrible battery life should probably look into an exchange or maybe an app you recently downloaded. The only time I got really bad battery life was when I ran a live wallpaper that was pegging my CPU.

If you are happy with 15 hours back up with the stuffs you mentioned you do then I've nothing to say. And AFAIK, iPhone 4 has much better battery back up than GS II, in fact it's the only phone, rather smartphonecool which has the best battery back up atm.

I have no apps runnin in the background nothing else out of the ordinary.

Before going to sleep do these things,
A- Check if 'Auto Sync' is running, Disable it if it was. Same goes for Background Data, Disable it.
B- Go to Task Manager and see if any Apps are running. Close it if some were.
C- In Task Manager, go to RAM tab, Press Clear Memory, it should close the hidden apps were running. ***DO NOT do this if you have some kind of Scheduler application running, it will NOT work then***
D- Download an app like Auto Task Killer.
E- If possible keep the 'Power Saving Feature' on with your desired settings.
Do these first, if not worked, do a Hard reset. For me, it decreases about 5-6% battery (max) in overnight period of 8-9 hours.

Well you are a lucky man then. But I/We do understand.
It's NOT about Frequent email checking or here and there photo shooting, as you can see we are talking about numbers here.
If you are happy with 15 hours back up with the stuffs you mentioned you do then I've nothing to say. And AFAIK, iPhone 4 has much better battery back up than GS II, in fact it's the only phone, rather smartphonecool which has the best battery back up atm.
With Heavy use even a Nokia 1200 will not last a week, so it's outta equation.

I'm not sure what you mean by "battery backup". Are you referring to standby time? Yes, the iphone does better in that department, but that's not typical daily use. Phones are meant to be used, not sit around for days at a time. Iphone can do this because it doesn't truly multitask and no data is syncing. Either you have a faulty device, bad Rom, or your expectations are unrealistic .

[Q] Dear Note 3 owners, what do you think of the battery life?

Hi guys.
I've had the Note 3 for some days now and I gotta admit, I'm having a hard time getting thru one day with heavy usage. I went from my Galaxy S II which held an entire day with moderate usage(with custom kernel+rom tho) expecting to never, ever worry about battery life no matter what but the truth is, that it is much harder to get thru a day now. I dont know if it's my phone or just a general 'issue' but I expected it to last much longer than it does.
**I've done a few test as you can see here**
---
Reinstalled, no wifi, no gps, no bluetooth, automatic brightness and went to bed(it was at 98%):
http://puu.sh/53k2n.png
---
Woke up, used it for radio(downloaded TuneIn for radio) + news(aka Reddit News) while eating, for one hour. Still no wifi, gps, bluetooth and automatic brightness on
http://puu.sh/53k1C.png
So it ate 20% battery on 1 hour with radio + Reddit News. Used the phone the whole time, screentime was 47m out of the 1 hour.
---
I just reinstalled everything, again, and did another test. Havent touched any app at all but YouTube. Wifi and GPS were on as default and didnt touch that. I opened YouTube and played a 2 hour movie with auto brightness and 50% media volume. This was the outcome
http://puu.sh/53jUQ.png
The red line shows when the video stopped. So it drained 20% battery on 2 hours.
---
What do you think of this, how is your battery life and are you satisfied with it?
I'm wondering if I should send mine in for repair, but I dont know if its my device or just pretty normal of a Note 3...

I am in the same boat. Came from a GNex and absolutely love my battery life! Whereas I'd have been dead by 8pm, I'm now only at 67%. Amazing what a 3200mah battery can do!

Hmmm your mobile signal looks bad, maybe that could be why your battery isnt lasting long.

Phenomenal battery life.
My S4 would be dead in 8 hours whereas N3 has a good 40% remaining.
I'm not rooted.
I'm on 4G & have medium to heavy usage.
I have very good battery life (with auto sync, data & wifi always on, etc...).
But I did some actions: root -> Greenify all apps which do not need really background interaction.
Turn down the screen brightness.
If I watch a video for 3.5 hours on full brightness it eats 45%. Same parameters but with brightness at 30%, it uses only 19%.
Also, get rid of Touchwiz.
I'm quite pleased with the battery life. I unplig at 100% at 2200, get up at 0440 (ah the joys of Public transport...) and when I get home at 2015, it'll be around 40%. I religiously check the railway planner every 15 minutes, email every 30min, take notes and watch films.
That said I did buy a 15600mah powerpack. Public transport is not know for its reliability here, so I need a backup plan. Particularly with the oncoming annual apocalypse dubbed 'snow'.

It's not bad so far. Though I haven't been keeping any real track of usage and battery stats so far. I'm only on my second charge, and I've been tweaking the phone to my liking and installing the X-NOTE ROM. After this initial tweaking and fiddling period I'll get a better idea about the battery life in day to day usage.
I come from a Note 2 and so far I'd say it's about the same.
I read a post by X-NOTE developer soloilmeglio where he said that the stock kernel for new firmware version MJ6 seems much more tweaked for battery life, so that sounds great. I'm on MJ3 now, waiting for his MJ6 build.
During the first 10 days I was disappointed (I previously had a s3). But now after several refills I'll say the Gn3 battery gives about 40-50% more autonomy than the s3 did. From my experience it's a good thing to charge only when you reach 15% and to run a full charge without using the phone.
Currently with a full charge and a heavy usage it's ok for two days. Most of the time I reach 3 days. That's not far from 1 more day than what the s3 did.

I bought this device last Thursday so it's been 9 days now. I need to probably spend another 10 days.
I have to say, as a power user, I'm not very impressed yet. Coming from an S3 (3G), I expected a significant "road warrior" bump but I'm just lasting a full day. When I heard reviewers going on 3 day weekends where they used the Note 2 and it lasted easily 2 days, I expected the same with the Note 3.
My work day is 0600 - 1630. With my S3 in moderate/heavy usage pattern I got home with maybe 15% remaining. With light/moderate usage, I'm home with 30%.
With the Note 3, my moderate/heavy pattern gives me 25% battery remaining for home. Haven't done light moderate yet. Estimate maybe 45% battery will remain.
In both cases we're talking about 3.5 hours on screen time heavy usage. 1.5 hours light usage.
Of course it should be noted that I'm comparing a 3G device to a 4G device. Also, EE 4G in London seems to have pretty week mobile signals or the Note 3 just has a meek radio. I'm really hoping that this improves after more charge cycles and/or updates. I want to be able to have a average screen on time of 4 hours and still go home with 35% remaining so I can still use the phone for the rest of the evening before bed.

Just wanted to update:
So I did a few testing sessions and have come to the conclusion that my biggest battery drainer for me: Auto Brightness.
Now after 2 days of setting the brightness manually (roughly to 15%) my battery life has definitely improved dramatically.
I'm getting over 3hrs screen on, heavy usage with 40%+ remaining at the end of a work day.
Today, I've had almost 4.5hrs screen on, heavy heavy usage (a lot of 4G, played the new free Asphalt, huge amount of web browsing) and the phone was at 5% before I finally charged it around 9pm. Not bad considering I had 4G, Wifi, GPS, NFC and Auto-Sync on all day today and listened to almost 1 hour worth of podcasts on my commute so the device was awake for a long time.
I suspect manual settings of brightness at 25% would give pretty good battery life as well but not necessary when you're indoors with lights.
Maybe still not a 3 day phone I think but with [my] light usage it will definitely be a 2 day phone.
Mine is great

Phone stays really cool too, so i can see and feel this efficiency could possibly contribute to such a fantastic battery life!

Hence why when I am within a Hot Spot I switch to GSM network for full bars more or less which also conserves battery.

Urgent question about battery (replace it or not under first 14 days?)

everybody,
I am totally new on here. It is the first forum to pop up, when I was searching about battery for Galaxy S7 Edge.
So here is my problem... I bought my S7 Edge 6 day ago. That is 1st of september. I must say, that I tottally love it. Nice design, works good, beautiful.
But after the first 3 days of playing with it and tweeking it to my liking, I started using it more normaly... so not playing with it ALL the time. And I couldnt help but notice that the didnt get me throguh the whole day like it did on previous phone.
My previous phone was LG G3 and the battery was great for about year and half. Meaning, it survived till bed time (around 21-22 for me). But this phone was on 10% at 6 pm.
At first I thought it was because I did not charge it over night, but more about that later.
So yestrday I went on the internet and browsed a bit, and found that people usually get about 7hr of SoT with 20% battery left (with no power saving modes). Well mine had 4hr 50min SoT and 15% battery left (23hrs total use)... doesnt seem normal at all.
So yestrday when I got home I plugged in my phone and started browsing about this... i was online till about 3.30 am and that is when I UNPLUGGED my phone. I only went to set the alarm clock and in the first 2 MINUTES after unplugging it drained to 97%... "Okay", I said to my self and went to sleep. This morning I woke up to 93% battery (i slept about 6 or 7 hours so normal drain, i guess)... i had the night watch on and i also have aod on. Anyways... I thought that all is good and i went to get my coffe and went to check something on youtube and I didnt even start the video and it drained for 1%...
So I decied to post on here about my problem.
Now bare in mind, I woke up at... checked the battery... went on youtube...saw that drain...decided to post here and i have been typing this post on my s7 edge...
I have 40 minutes of SOT and it drained from 93% to 83%...right NOW. That is 10% in less than an hout of only typing a text on a forum... many people reported that they were on YouTube for a whole hour and lost about 1-2%. And here I am typing on forum for less than an hour
All I currently have on is 4G (LTE) and Chrome browser to type on this forum. I have AOD on but its not in use right now since I am using the device.... also auto brightness and 3 bars of signal.
Now tell me is something wrong with me or with my phone? I dont get it. Should i go to my provider and get a new one? Do you think this one came with a bad battery?
Should I go to my provider and replace it?
I dont know what to do and I hope you will be able to help me. ((
As i Finish this post, i am left with 82% battery... i think even my LG G3 lasted longer to get to 82% and its 2014 phone with 3000mAh if im correct.
Thanks for your help guys
Oh also I am sorry if I posted in the wrong section. Tell me and I will do my best to find the right one.
And also what I should mention is, that I have the Exynos version.
Another update.
So after i posted, I deliberately went on youtube and was watching videos for a full one hour and few minutes on 4g data. And came from 82% to 71%.
My current battery stats are:
Total time: 2hr 8min
SoT: 1hr 55min
As i am finishing this post i have exactly 70% left.
So here is my report i hope you can help me as much as ppossible, if its normal or not, if i should replace it or not. I just think that based on report of other my battery os worse. Some people have like even 1day 14hrs total time and a crazy 7.5 or 8 hrs of SoT.. mine was tops 1d and sot of almost 5 hrs... and well you can see from my forst post how it drained...
Hope i am not complicating and over reacting but i want to get the best out of this phone for the money i spent
And another update.
I talked on phone with my friend, who has LG G3, for 40 minutes.
It drained my battery from 69% to 63%.
It is funny because in the exact same time his phone also drained 9% of battery. Thats why i called him actually. And it shouldnt be like this. Cause his phone is older and has a 3000mah battery... so how can consumption be the same?
I don't know your usage pattern my friend or how is cell reception quality in your area, but I can tell you that your battery life will only get better after a few days/weeks.
Android will settle down, learn your usage pattern, optimize apps that use battery in the background but you never use, etc. Your battery too, chemically, will hold a charge more efficiently after a few charge cycles.
I've been using my Galaxy S7 Edge for 2 weeks now (with a custom ROM/kernel though), and I got 6h54m of screen-on time yesterday (auto-brightness) when I went to bed (15% battery left). That's something I've not seen since my good old Galaxy S3.
Give your phone some time to settle down, cache the stuff it needs, etc.
Thx for the reply.
Well I have around 3 bars of 4g signal in my area.
Like I said I have had it since last thursday. Ive been using the phone since 10.30 and its 14.08 now and i have 59% and i have 2hrs 15 min SoT. (Total time around 3hrs).
I really do hope it will break in,settle in, chemichally like you said... because right now i feel its same or just a bit worse than lg g3 i had last week (which was 2 yrs old). And that is not logical to me, that a new phone has same battery stats as a 2 yrs old phone.
What were your stats the first week or two and when did it start settling in and getting better?
4G + YouTube for one hour and You only lost 11%? Your battery is really good. Also 40 minutes of call and 6% drain is once again really good.
Usually using 4G for internet and calls or videos drains battery unbelievably quickly. I get around 5:30 hr SOT with a custom rom and a custom kernel but only when I have WiFi only without 4G enabled. With 4G I would probably have like 2-3 hours of SOT if not less lol.
I've had many phones, chinese, low end, mid end, high end, iPhones. And so far S7 Edge has the best battery. Even some of those phones had a 4000mah battery and were really power efficient, but they still had worse battery life than my S7 Edge.
The results that You have are really good. Nothing to be worried about. Replacing battery might only give You a worse one or a identical one.
Edit: Just checked and G3 has 40-50k antutu benchmark score. And (my) S7 Edge 146k. It's kind of obvious that it will drain battery a tiny bit faster. Other than that display goes there too or even things like better signal(4G module) boards that take more power but still give You better signal in some situations.
I think that you are overreacting. Your battery life seems pretty good. It will vary for everyone and is really dependent on usage patterns. 7-8 hours of SOT is an absolute best case and not many people will actually achieve that. Most people will fall in the 4-6 hours of SOT with normal use. I typically get 4.5 hours of SOT and 28-30 hours total.
Edit: I have gotten over 7 hours of SOT once, when I was at home all day playing games on my phone. Also, the Exynos processor version seems to have better battery life than the Snapdragon version. Which one you have is based on location typically.
Thanks guys! Thank for comforting me. I feel much better. I guess many of those reporting those crazy SoTs are in reading news in a dark room lol.
Well i have 40% left. But i was literally on my phone since 10.30 and on 4g all the time (except that phone call, during calls i disable it).
Otherwise I am really, really happy with this phone. When i bought lg g3 i had a bit buyers remorse... with this one i have mone (although lg was phenomenal!).
Also if someone withi same worries will read this... i noticed that stock browser is faster than chrome and it drains less batrery than chrome. So I will try to get used to the stock browser, also for something new, cuz i have been using chrome for ever now.
And it also has fingerprint to log into sites (stock one)
Last update on this charge.
Right now i have 4hr 40 minutes of SoT. And 20% battery left. I enabled battery saver at 25%.
Total time of battery is almost 16hrs.
And i have to say that at around 14pm i was browsing on chrome for like and hour or maybe 2 hours and id say thats pretty heavy for the device. On chrome which eats ram like dragon.
Thanks again guys for helping.
But still nothinf compared to those guys that are getting 6hrs or 7 or even 8.
Thats like 2 to 3 hrs more than mine. Either they are having all functions turnes off (smart capture, edge feed etc) and brightness to lowest possible...or my i am doing something wrong. Haha

Chrome is a ram killer on every device. Mostly Windows.
For now I have a 5:30 hr SOT (today) but with some battery saving tweaks(custom kernel too) and WiFi all day.
Like I said Your battery is pretty good cause my phone with 4G enabled would get not more than 2:30hr SOT. Maybe my carrier has poor signal and the phone needs more power for antennas to see signal. I've no idea.
I also think there's nothing wrong with your battery, I usually get around 5 hours of SoT, right now I habe 5 hrs 12 min of SoT and it's been 16 hours since last full charge, also I have 32% left, It's about the best usage time I have ever gotten.
The difference may be that today I turned the gps off and set the auto brightness.
People reporting over 7 hours of SoT are most likely using a custom Rom or custom kernel, or apps like greenify to hibernate apps and background process.
I used to have a LG G3 before this phone and the battery was anything near this momster, and has been getting worse over time, now it barely last 2 or 3 hours of SoT and the pone gets reaaaaally hot.
I have read that the battery seems to last longer if you dissable the quick charge option.
Btw, while writing this my battery drained 1%.

Well let me report again.
Yesterday I activated power saving at 25% and used it normally and tried my best not to plug it in.
I plugged it in at around 3 am with 2% left. Before that I was on 9gag and facebook and got around 1 more hour SOT. Before plugging it in I checked battery stats and I had around 23 hours total use, if i recall correctly and 6hr and some minutes of SOT, and I'd say I was pretty hard on the phone yestrday with all the youtube and 4g and chrome browsing.
Right now i have total time 2hr 36min and sot 1hr 33min and im on 80%.
I feel better now that you guys told me its actually pretty good battery and I thank you for that!
Btw do you guys suggest any apps that kill background apps that i am not using? Or is samsungs system pretty okay in doing that? I never really used app killers on any phone before.
Thx
Oh also, i have to say that i use location only when i need it. And also wifi and 4g. BT always off also NFC. Most of these are off...they are on only wheen needed. And i have almost all advenced functions turned on (AOD, Night watch, smart capture, direct call etc...) i really like them and i use them. And they are awesome, so why turn them off. Im saying these because probably some sensors are needed to be turned on to and this drains battery.
But still i am happy with the phone and battery, especcially now that you guys told me all the good stuff

I'd say that process/app killers are going to make Your phone less smooth. Your phone caches the apps in the background and this way it launches them 2x as fast. And some apps when You clean backround processes will pretty much restart themselves immediately and slow down Your phone
I could only advice You to clean cache/apt cache every month. That should give You more space and refresh Your apps. But even if You were not going to do that, Your performance wouldn't be slower anyway .
This phone is powerful enough to run windows xp at a decent speed(tried it out yesterday) and it has a lot of internal code that makes sure that everything is clean and smooth.
I guess that this is how S7 Edge works. Yesterday I was 50% battery left when I went home after working. With my note 4 I left the office with a 75% battery full. Thou I dint have AOD in the nothe 25% battery for that it seems too much so I installed several xposed modules and from today Im testing batterys consumption. My note didnt have LTE to I will check the % used with LTE, tomorrow Ill test with 3g and comapre the results, maybe LTE requires more power. Also, after this tests Ill disable AOD and Ill test it again...

App killers are really a bad idea, in android free ram is wasted ram, the phone uses more resources to start the aplications again everytime you need it, it is far better to have them loaded in ram so they can open faster and with less effort to the phone. Android manage ram and background apps based on priorities defined for every app. just let the system handle the ram on its own and it will be fine.
You can, however, use greenify to hibernate (not the same ass kill) the apps running on background, that way they stop consuming resources untill the app is woken up by user or other app.
In general, any app or wakelock that prevents your phone from going into deep sleep are the main causes of battery drain while the phone is idle.
You can search on this forum for a guide on how to use greenify along with amplify to obtain almost 0% battery drain while the phone is idle, but you going to need to read a lot.

Update:
Today for the first time I got 9 hrs of SoT
I think is interesting since the only different thing I did was turn the gps off and ser the auto brightness at 50%
Could it be that after a month of use the phone finally adapted and is managing the energy better?
I think 3 hours more of SoT than usual just for dissable the gps and set auto brightness is too much.
I hope I can still get this amazing battery life in the future

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Xiaomi Poco F1 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Here is my SOT in my 2nd full charge .. impressed :good:

and Battery stat
Yes I agree battery drain is pretty low, infact twice inhave seen it go upto 4 hrs in the night with full 4g service , without dropping even a single percent.
Haven't gone from a 0 to 100 SOT but this is what I recorded yesterday night.
Getting Impressive Battery Backup (9hrs 21m SOT) #POCOF1
Well In mu case I used the inbuilt battery saver throughout the day to dave more battery as it doesn't affect the speed.
Usage:16.5 Hours
Screen On Time: 9 Hours
These statistics are from 100 to 2 Percent.
I was on WiFi most of the time 4G for around 2 Hours.
Screen Brightness at Auto and only increased manually while using YouTube , Netflix or PUBG.
The performance was lag free.
I played PUBG at Extereme settings for around 3 Hours.
Netflix and YouTube streaming was for 3 hours too.
Else was my basic usage of Instagram , Facebook , Snapchat , Etc.
Really in love with its battery capabilities.

Pretty much the same with mine too. 3 hrs of PUBG, Lots of video playback, music time, Lots of browsing and reading, little photography, WIFI never OFF.
Well, I'm not a gamer, but I do read a lot on my phone
In my second battery cycle I decided to use my phone exclusively for surfing on chrome while listening to music for some time, and I got 13 hrs of SOT. Phone was on auto brightness for most of the time which wasn't enough occasionally so had used brightness of about 35%.
Btw, how do you post images here?!

Use POST REPLY and there should be an option to manage attachments if you scroll down.
So far so good. All day on 4G. Normal usage. FB, Twitter and little YouTube. 36% remaining.
Edit: 2nd screenshot added. SOT : Approx 10 hrs. with 4% battery remaining.
Still 5% left. Without any battery saver.
One thing I'd like to mention is
After charging to 100%, battery drops to 99% pretty quickly.
I find it weird considering it takes long time to charge from 99 to 100%. My mother's moto e3 power has 3500 mAh battery and shows similar charging behavior but functions for quite some time before discharging to 99%. The thing is, moto e3 has near stock Android. I think it's just miui thing to discharge so quick from 100 to 99.
Can anyine confirm this?

Yes This happens with me too
Mine is low compare to your stats.
Max 7 hours of SOT.
Usage Pattern: Around 2 hours of voice calls, moderate browsing, facebook, instagram, around 1 hours of youtube streaming. Total battery run time: 24 hours to 28 hours.
Wifi almost always on with little bit of 4G usage.
and I dont play games.
Should I ask for replacement?
Please suggest

You get 7 hours SOT with 2 hours of voice calls probably 4G, Instagram. I normally get up to 9 hrs of SOT with 3 hours of PUBG.
Pretty much right there. Just in case post the screen shots like others did. People could help suggest.

Not being able to upload screen shots. It says 'bad request'.
How can I upload the screen shots???
How is the battery after the update???I usually get around 7hr with 2 hrs of PUBG and other normal social media apps..I am still in version which was initialy provided by POCO.Is the battery improved after the update??I shd update to latest version or is it better to be in current one??
2 hours of calls is probably the reason....I don't have this much calls in one cycle
