Anyone having fast charging issue after the last firmware update - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

I have 2 S7e and the only thing common with both is the recent firmware update which causes Fast Charging to stop working. I have already tried several chargers, cables and QC 2.0 battery pack. Wireless Fast Charing works fine but not Cable Fast Charging. The Fast Charing switch is turned on in the setting.

I've noticed that Samsung's implementation of QuickCharge 2.0 is anything but, I am only getting about 1000mA at the very most per Ampere. My Nexus 6p routinely got 2870 mA while charging, and same with a ZTE Axon I had for a hot second.
Also, I wouldnt be surprised of some crippling by this latest update, due to the battery explosion problems being seen on Samsung devices.

Using the app, it shows the device is charging under 200 mA. Painfully slow. Even when plugged into a charger. It detects as USB charging, not AC.

Weird, I haven't had this at all.

They did the same thing on the Note 7 before finally killing it. in the API4 FW it killed fast charge.

Yea i also have same issue.fast charging is slow as compared to b4(update)..new update must have done something.

Wanted to know what firmware you guys are on that is causing the problem. I just purchased my T-Mo S7E and couple weeks ago and I don't remember receiving a update because my quick charging seems to be working fine. This phone charges just as fast as my M8, M9 and G4 did. Especially considering it has a larger battery. Here is the software that I'm currently running and what Ampere says I'm pulling in using this Quick charger. I've never used the Samsung's Adaptive Fast Charger, and this is the charger I used on the phones I mentioned previously. Oh and here is a screenshot of a update I just recently received from T-Mo but haven't accepted yet.

Do not accept that update. I advise that you wait. I've noticed my phone randomly rebooting on a daily basis. It's annoying. T-Mobile even gave me a replacement and it's still doing the same thing.
Sent from my SM-G935T using XDA-Developers mobile app

Yeah thing is my S7 has been doing that before the update. Actually it has been doing it randomly since I bought it. No rhyme or reason why but every once in a while it will reboot on its own and this was before the update so I don't think it has anything to do with it. Well at least not for my phone.

Skipped this update and took the 4APK1 updated but cleared my partition cache first, no problems so far and fast charging works, went from 20% to 99% in just over an hour with the phone turned off while charging.

I claimed the warranty. It took them 3 weeks to get the replacement phone to the store. No loaner, no option to exchange for other color in stock. Very very bad. My last tmobile branded phone for sure.

I recently did an insurance exchange through t mobile's company, I received my phones quick through them( 1 to 2 days) but they couldn't get me the same color(black). I wasn't happy about it.

Dang, lucky. They refuse to send me the silver and made me wait for the black to come in. The discontinued the black so I'm not sure what's the point to try to replace my black with another one fresh from the factory.

Battery stopped charging at 65%

Very odd, last night I set my phone to your charge on the wall charger but this morning it had stopped charging before 100%and had begun to slowly discharge.
Anyone have the same issue? Could it be down to overheating?

EDIT: id also like to add that sometimes when im charging it my battery goes from w/e its at to 100% charged randomly, its happened two times now. :| this phone has a lot of problems.
When it stopped charging, it turned the screen on and kept it on all that time. Looks like it decided to jump to USB charging. Did you happen to notice what the previous screen said?
Something like
85% - Charging (AC)
I have a widget that shows the charging status, I did notice that it said AC.
Only thing I did different was to use a 3m USB extension. Done the same plenty of times with my Sensation but this is the first time with the N4.
The screen was on this morning and I have it set to stay on when charging.
I might turn that off when on USB charging (I think Tasker can do that)

In my opinion, I think you shouldn't leave the screen on while charging. The screen is a huge power hog, and I've seen power consumption hit 1A on this phone. (and the charger is only 1.2A, which is why I use my TouchPad's 2A charger for this phone )
It is looking that way. Bit of a drag but I will cope

Same thing has happened to me OP, but mine stopped at 85% instead of 65.

Some things to try
- If you have a custom Recovery wipe the battery stats.
- If your phone is rooted use a file browser to delete "data/system/batterystat.bin". Reboot the phone.

I'm totally stock till I have time to Root.
One possibility: I have Foldersync set to check for new stuff on a Google Drive share at around that time, there was nothing to download this morning but it might be the issue.

Wireless charging issues?

I purchased a charger from a local company here in Australia. We really don't have much option over here as most companies won't ship to here. They tested them out and they worked (I trust the company as I know one of the owners).
Problem is that it mostly only charges to around 88% and peaked out here and stays attempting to charge, but not charging just getting hotter and hotter. So far max was 58deg I think. It has charged to 100% twice only, and I have had them for 2 weeks. These 2 times it perfectly charged to 100,stopped charging and cooled down.. Perfect.
A few others have had issues as well but the suppliers say it works fine for them.
Has anyone had any issues at all like this using wireless charging? We are really trying to get to the bottom of this and trying to figure out if it's a phone issue or a charger issue.
I have tried it with any and all stock and custom roms, both totally clean and with apps installed.
I have attached my battery graphs here in case that helps solve the problem.

We noticed there was quite a few bad remarks about the lg one on Amazon so thought I would ask here.
So, anyone else have issues with inconsistent wireless charging of nexus 4?
Thanks.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I'm having the same issues as well with this Wireless Charger I purchased off eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221166419716
For the first 2 weeks it was charging without issue. Charged the phone up to 98/99% and then switched on and off to maintain that charge, and the phone did not get very hot.
For the past few days it has only been able to charge up to 90% and will not go any higher, but the phone gets very hot and stays like that (45C). Plugging the phone into a USB charger gets it up to 100% so it can't be that the battery maximum has been reached.
Would be interested to know what type of Qi Charger you have to see if it's a problem with a certain 'type'.
Mine isn't that one. It's no brand at all. The guys who imported them tell me they tested some, including that you bought and they say that one was intermittent.
I recently purchased http://www.fasttech.com/products/1154/10001946/1142301 and this works perfectly so far... But then it's only been a couple days...
I am putting it down to a hardware revision 10 issue where it is not perfectly qi compliant. The newer ones are supposedly rev 12 which are qi compliant.... And hopefully they work fine with it so I can sell them to my friends who all bought an n4 today (5 at work in a smallish Xray dept)...
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
Is this the hardware revision on the phone, or do you mean the rev of the charging device?
As mine evidenced, even if it works perfectly for a while, it could still not be an indication that the qi charging will keep working.
I'll probably just stick with my one until the 'official' one is released. Was a little worried that the temperature staying around 45C for extended periods of time could have a negative effect on the battery or phone components however.
Kind of a necro post but my N4 on the official charger will top out at 88% as well sometimes, then flap between charging and discharging like the phone thinks its full and is trickle charging. If I plug it in and get it to 90%, then go back to the orb, it goes to 100% just fine.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 4
Double necro but I have this exact same issue and can't seem to get it to work. Anyone figured it out?
Same issue with Nokia DT-900
Nexus 4 charges to 70% and then "trickle charges", turning on and off.

After a few months, mine would do the same thing. For some reason the "efficiency" of the N4 charging circuit (inside the phone) became somehow worse.
The DT-900 uses a TI bq500410A chip for control of the charging. If it detects too low of efficiency it will cut off. Luckily it's possible to modify this threshold. By removing the resistor connected to pin 43 of the TI chip it allows it to charge regardless of efficiency. It still has temperature protection so I don't think there is any danger.

Well, that type of mod is waaay over my head, but at least that answers the question. Thanks!
Just to add some information to this thread, I have the new Google Wireless Charger and it does the same thing. It charges to 80% and then just plateaus there, getting quite warm, but not hot, to the touch. Strange.

I thought there was a 5.02?
I updated mine yesterday and it seemed a bit buggy/laggy here and there so I did a factory reset and now my battery won't charge with phone on. It goes down 1% every 5 minutes or less. It will only charge with phone off and the it dies like 2 percent just booting up.
Tmo support says 5.0.2 is what should be what we are updating to, not 5.0.1?

Mines 5.0.1, battery is still pretty good, just slightly less than what it was on KitKat, super smooth running though

Can we root this using the guide? Or do we have to wait for a rootable version?
[EDIT] I answered my own question - realized there's a thread about this.
That lollipop was huge, took the edge awhile to suck it in. For a while I thought it had shocked

Nothing but problems since I've upgraded..
Download and install went fine, but after it booted up for the first time, the battery would die 1% every couple minutes. I plugged it into the charger at work that I've used for months (nexus 5 charger) and it died even faster. I tried a factory reset and it still kept happening and the battery completely died. The only way it would charge is when the phone was off. So I waited a longggg time until it had about 15% and did another factory reset.
The phone seemed to work fine after the 2nd reset. Right now, certain apps will take a long time to open such as gallery. It doesn't force close. It just freezes and I have to press home button to cancel opening the app. Everything else works fine and battery life seems good.
I realized my LG charger at work that I've used for months now does not charge the phone. It will no longer charge the battery. I have the spare battery I got from Samsung with the 50% off any accessory deal. Neither battery will charge with any charger that isn't the fact charging samsung one. when it is plugged in, the battery depletes rather than charges. It will charge if the phone is off but very very slowly.
Laggy
Wow, lollipop is lagging hard. My edge is crawling AND I can't tap speaker when I answer calls on the edge, anyone else with same issue?
I noticed u have to slide the speaker shortcut on the edge like how u answer calls

Samsung Adaptive Fast charger stock?

So I'm ordering the phone from the UK which means the charger won't work for me here in the US. I was wondering if this samsung adaptive fast charger is the same that comes as stock in the US model, I don't want to miss out on Quick Charge 2.0 so I gotta make sure this one's right otherwise I might end up with a slower charging phone than my current N5 which charges very fast.
These all say output is 5V and 1amp? How does this compare to a wired charger?

It is. Even in the USA, with your lower voltage plugs, it's still 10x what fast charging bricks drawer. Should have no problems at all.
If you try and use 1 with a plug adapter, just make sure it'll pass it through at the correct voltage (although I dunno why it wouldn't). Or you could just order a US charging brick fro Samsung. It's all good.
I'll be using mine in the USA towards the end of the year. So I'm curious to see if if it's all good for you.

I can get the same US charger for like 8-12 bucks from Amazon/Ebay so I think I'll just buy that since I don't plan on going to Europe any time soon. And yeah a plug adapter would probably work but I think I'm better off with the US plug charger since it's pretty cheap.

That's the best idea. The brick you have is for UK only, not Europe anyway. They use a 2 pin plug in Europe, but instead of flat pins they use round.
Whereas it's 3 for the UK because we earth all our plugs, so the long pin goes in first as it's the earthed one.
For sure for the sake of 12 bucks.

Problems charging after latest t-mobile update

Has anyone had any trouble charging after the update? The one that promised optimized battery life? I always charge my phone in the morning so it's not just sitting at 100% during the night. I gave it almost 2 hours this morning and it only got to 67%. I used the Ampere app and it starts at like 100mAh and then slowly goes to about 800mAh and then fluctuates in between. I know nothing is wrong with the charger because I plugged in my note 3 with the same app and it showed 1200mAh which is what the charger is rated for. I've also had slightly worse battery life after updating. The day I updated I could only get 3:28 sot, and before updating I could easily get 4 and a half to 5+ sot. Anybody have a problem like this or maybe a fix?
Hello, yesterday was my first day after the update and my battery life went from 3.5 hrs SoT too 4.5-5.0 hrs. Yesterday was the first 5hrs of SOT I've ever had. I'm happy my device is normal. It all depends on the usage like today I'm using my phone a little more. I'm using more battery. But in not tripping if I wanted to save battery I know I could!! It's very possible.

Try restarting your phone. Might sound dumb I know but I've had instances where fast charging didn't work until I restarted or that my battery percentage was not "correct"
I've restarted many times now and tried wiping the cache but still nothing. The battery seems to be depleting semi-normally again, still not as good as it was but the charging still takes a long time.
Have you tried it without the app?
By the way, the phone using Qhich Charge 2.0 has built in software that communicates with the charger. No need for a 3rd party app.
I haven't had any problems charging after the update.
The app doesn't help charge the phone, it just shows how many mAhs are going into the phone from the brick. Since the phone has been charging so slowly I wanted to see if power coming in was being slowed or something for some reason

My battery life is about the same now, but it's still the charging part. It's shown it'll take about 3 hours to charge but when I let it charge yesterday it's still going as of now with 4+ SoT. So battery life is okay, it's the charging. I'll try disabling and restarting and see if that helps

If all else fails, do a factory reset. I did after this last updated since it seems like it was a pretty important one. Differently get better sot, better battery drain while idle. Everything is backed up in the cloud so it wasn't that big of a deal.
I've tried the reset, knowing that a factory reset would have to be next. But charging seems to be back to normal now. I still think it's a little slower than it was, but when I plug it in, it shows anywhere from an hour to an hour 20(when my phone is under 10%). I think it's coming back slowly
