Google Maps direction indicator - Moto G4 Play Questions & Answers

I have no indicator in maps. I know it was changed from an arrow to a shaded range, but I have nothing.
Anybody else?

Since the G4 Play doesn't have a compass there is no way to get that information.

does GPS use battery when not using GPS apps such as Maps?

Hi all,
Does switching on GPS-mode consumes battery when not using GPS apps such as Google Maps and other GPS software?
Reason why I ask is because I see only the GPS icon in the notification bar when opening apps like that, when I close these kind of apps the GPS icon dissappears.
Thx

I was thinking the same thing... about the icon... I rarely use it but each time I forget to turn it off I only have like 20% left when I get back home
My thought is that it drains the battery even when not in use (if switched on)

[Q] New GPS icon? Always on?

So my friend has the SGS Fascinate and recently said that an icon appeared up in her notification bar. I couldn't identify it, although I assumed it had something to do with GPS or some kind of satellite connection. However, there was no indication as to where it was coming from, after perusing the settings.
After looking at it I've redrawn what it looks like, anyone else know what this icon could be?

Also, I noticed that when I turned off "VZW Location Services" under "Location and Security" that the Icon dropped the three wave bars and just the plus/diamond was still there.
What exactly is this thing? Anyone know?
Part of the DL09 update as I recall
It's the new E911 icon. It will always be there, and the only current fix is to replace the image for it with a transparent one, but it still takes up space on the notification bar.
Ok cool. Thanks for the answers!

To clarify and continue your answer, the icon is for Location Enabled.
(+) means that you have E911 service, which will always be enabled (by law)
(+)<))) means that you have E911 service AND one or more Location Services Enabled, either GPS, Google Location, or VZW location. The <))) will remain as long as you have ANY of the location services enabled.
This confused the hell out of me when I first saw it on DJ05, so that's why I wanted to offer a more complete answer

Yeah, you probably won't be able to use that method anymore. I'm pretty sure you can only use the Maps app itself now. If you tap the icon on the right-hand side of the search bar, that's navigation. I'm just guessing here, but there's probably an intent for it, so maybe somebody has written a little app using the old navigation icon that will launch Maps with that intent? Of course, you can also easily get to navigation by voice command. That may or may not be an option for you. I've been trying to use voice a little more, because it actually works really well.

hi,
so this is normal behaivour of 4.4
this changes is very bad for me, classic navigation icon shoulb be. Voice method will be alternate new feature.
ı Hope this blue navigation icon is came .
thanks...
Ah, I think I just found something that's almost like the old navigation icon.
Tap and hold in any unused space of the screen. Pick Widgets, then add the widget called "Directions". It makes you enter something for the source and destination, but you can just use a single space for each, then tap Save. The new widget should do basically what the blue arrow used to do.

yes, google directions are similar to navigation icon.
I test it it works well.
Thanks

Strange GPS issue

Hey guys,
I've got a problem with my GPS. When I start the app "GPS Test" then there isn't shown any satellite in view and in use (0/0). When I use Maps then the app finds my location but the icon in the status bar is still searching (icon in GPS Test too).
I've already installed the official firmware without success.
Any suggestions? Thanks

Navigation "Next Turn" indicator widgets (or launcher that can do it)?

99% of my driving, I know where I'm going and I only need music and GPS speed info displayed on my head unit. On longer trips, even if I know where I'm going, I'll use Google Maps to help me keep track of how the journey is progressing, but I don't really need the entire full screen map.
What I'd like to do is have a launcher screen that has all this shown, all the time, so I rarely need to open an app. The last part of the puzzle is the next turn navigation information... So far I've discovered Google Maps and Waze don't offer widgets for this, but haven't looked at any other navigation apps.
I've also tried several car-specific launchers and found FCC Car Launcher can kind of do it (if you give it your own Google Maps API key), but this launcher runs very slowly on my cheap unit.
Does anyone know of any way I can do this?
