Navigation "Next Turn" indicator widgets (or launcher that can do it)? - Android Head-Units

99% of my driving, I know where I'm going and I only need music and GPS speed info displayed on my head unit. On longer trips, even if I know where I'm going, I'll use Google Maps to help me keep track of how the journey is progressing, but I don't really need the entire full screen map.
What I'd like to do is have a launcher screen that has all this shown, all the time, so I rarely need to open an app. The last part of the puzzle is the next turn navigation information... So far I've discovered Google Maps and Waze don't offer widgets for this, but haven't looked at any other navigation apps.
I've also tried several car-specific launchers and found FCC Car Launcher can kind of do it (if you give it your own Google Maps API key), but this launcher runs very slowly on my cheap unit.
Does anyone know of any way I can do this?

Let's go :
i mainly just use Google Maps and Spotify. I do use aCalendar which syncs to my Google Calendar so I can set addresses for appointments up and I can easily GPS to them. Although I think Google Maps is adding that functionality
I'll gladly post up once I have everything installed. Right now I am just trying to figure out connected devices. RIght now I plan to have usb tpms, front dvr camera , back up cam, skype/googlenow cam, usb modem, and possibly wire up turn signal blind spot cams. THe rest would be normal car audio stuff.

What makes you say that?
Oh usb obd2 on that lost as well.
well on the Joying forum i asked about DVR, and almost everyone who replied said it made their unit almost slow to a crawl. Mine is the MTCD 5.1 with Quad Core, and it basically only runs Google Maps and Spotify, and it is certainly no speed demon. dont get me wrong, i love it, but it's not a 2016 Android Flagship, it is going to be taxed if you run too much stuff on it
Ah ok. I thought you meant there would be a problem on the hardware being added. I see what you mean about multitasking. Guess ill have to look up that specific issue.
I have a rk3066 Android running malasyk rom.
Launcher: next launcher
My apps.
Obd: running some stuff on the home screen in a widget (torque pro)
Join app: . To receive WhatsApp message and some notifications from my fone. ( Also I can react to a message on my device like WhatsApp. (Buy on play store)
Here maps :for navigation.
Flitsmeister: for the speed traps. Running in background. (Free edition play store)
PC radio: better quality of sound at low internet traffic.
I have the widget on the homescreen .
Usb1: DVR cam standard app (record traffic)
Usb2: empty sometime for mp3 music.
Av-in: mini media player .12v plays movies for my headrest monitors. USB Sd card support . Al's I can navigate well playing movie for the kids. (About 21 euro)
Steering wheel control: universal remote using key 1 key 2 about 15euro
That's my setup of my android device in my car
And always looking for improvement.
@sinnedone Maby i bring you an idea about my setup.

I have a JY-UL135N2. My unique addition is an arduino interface to factory steering wheel buttons and oem mic. It communicates through the swc inputs as well as usb keyboard inputs. I use External Keyboard Helper to handle the Arduino usb keypresses. The oem backup camera is connected too.
Hardware-wise I connected a supercap as the HU sometimes rebooted when I started the car. And I use a 2.5ghz wireless keyboard with it. Network connectivity is through a wifi hotspot.
I use google maps, ez folder player, xiialive, and audible. I also have Speaking Email.

I'm puzzled by why people usually don't want to make their head units look like they fit in the car. Pretty much every Youtube video I have seen of Android head units are using ugly launchers with a lot of distracting stuff like colourful icons and live wallpapers etc. I tried to make the launcher look like it belongs in the car and not like some random chinese Android tablet that has been thrown in.
Apps used:
Apex Launcher
PipTec Red Icons & Live Wall (red icons and clock widget)
Torque Pro
Torque Widgets
Network Meter (To show a small wifi icon when wifi connected because I want that info but I'm using immersive mode with launcher so status bar is hidden. It is at the same place as the wifi indicator in notification bar so it will be invisible with apps that are not in immersive mode)
The unit has not been crammed fully in yet as I am planning to do some wiring still.

This is my Joyous j-2818w. Not Joying, but I guess it's the same, in my 2006 Corolla verso. Got steering wheel controls working.

I like this setup! Howd you get Torque widgets to use the PipTec red icon theme with the dividing bar?

Please read this post.
I had many problems with Torque Widgets. First of all the texts could not be translated and the green icon that indicates data being updated could not be hidden although it should've been according to Torque documentation. I sent an email about it to the author of the app but he did not respond. I ended up just making torque theme PNG transparent as well as Torque widget title texts transparent. Then I typed in the texts into the background image. Of course you don't have to do this if you want to use English texts in Torque widgets. Then it is sufficient to just edit the Torque theme text file that has properties for text colors etc.
The dividing bar is also in the background image. I recommend using Image 2 Wallpaper app to add the wallpaper because it keeps the quality of the image high.
I have attached a PSD file if you want the same wallpaper. Just modify the texts into your language and place Torque Widgets with Apex Launcher (maximum icon and icon text size - 150 % - in Apex settings) with 3 x 6 icon layout and that's all.
Nieuw setup on my joying head unit.:silly:
I am have join app (payd app) for a while now. And work great on all file sharing and notifications like WhatsApp Facebook enz.
Now I have readittome (payd app) I have it to read the notifications and messages .
The best setup whas to have it on my phone. But in combination with join it works better than only on my phone.
This is what happens now:
(WhatsApp messages incoming on phone)
**
(Join app intercepted the message)
**
(Join send message to HU)
**
(Sound... Toast message appears with message)
**
(Readittome reads the message to me)
**
Readittome ask for willing to reaply)
**
(Yes/No)
**
(Message . I say to microphone)
**
(Will you send this message?)
**
Yes/ No
**
(Message send )
It work better than those difficult tasker task and
profile.

[App Suggestion] - E-ink Navigation instructions widget - Please vote

What I would find useful is a backscreen widget that shows the latest notification from google maps in a big format.
This would be much more energy-efficient and clear than google maps and seems doable with notification access.
Would be useful to use in the car or on the bike.
Maybe if I have some time I will try making it myself.
Let me hear your voice in a comment below if you would like that too

Questions relating to Scaling of Apps and Customisation of Navigation Bar

Hi all, i am the new owner of a topway 4.4.2 head unit. I am a jailbroken iPhone user and used to the world of iOS. I'm somewhat familiar with androids and rooting. My Unit is actually rooted from the box and i wanted to ask a couple of questions.
1st Is there any possible way to customize the navigation bar to display media controls such as play/pause forward reverse? and is it possible to move the nav bar down to the bottom of the screen as opposed to the top?
2nd is it possible to scale apps down. I have certain apps such as apple music that won't display all buttons. I thought about changing dpi but not sure if that will fix it or not.
3rd. Unrelated, text to speech doesnt seem to work. the microphone button doesnt appear on the keyboard and the speech functionality doesnt work in google maps when clicking that microphone. its as if it doesnt recognize the microphone. I've already checked the options in the settings and its enabled.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all

Disable Notch In Landscape

Hello,
I frequently use my phone for Google maps navigation in my car, but mounted landscape. In the Google Maps app, data around the notch cutout shows correctly in portrait mode, but in landscape mode, the whole status bar area around the notch just becomes a black bar.
This has caused severe screen burn-in on my phone in the status bar area. Since I spend thousands of hours using maps in landscape mode and therefore having that section on the screen dark, I need to find a way to make Maps take up the whole screen to prevent the burn-in/uneven-wear from worsening.
I flashed a Magisk module called NotchKiller, which works, but it affects ALL apps, including the status bar itself when in portrait mode, which is not what I want. Google Maps and Waze don't seem to have an in-app user setting for this either.
Then I found this useful documentation. https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/display-cutout
It appears the app is using the default "LAYOUT_IN_DISPLAY_CUTOUT_MODE_DEFAULT", but I want the behavior to follow "LAYOUT_IN_DISPLAY_CUTOUT_MODE_SHORT_EDGES".
So my question is, how can I change or override this setting? (And not have to spend an hour recompiling the app myself with this one line every time Google updates it?)
Edit: I am on OOS 10, but willing to try a custom ROM if I have to.
Anyone?

Always show navigation bar

I use my tablet for my kids and I despise the Freetime launcher because most of my apps are sideloaded with Google Play (paid content). So those apps won't show in Freetime. Regardless, I hate that environment but the problem I have is that my kids have a difficult time figuring out how to go back to the main screen where you need to swipe up or from the side to get the navigation bar. Is there a way to force it to always show the navigation bar?
