I have a Galaxy Tab A 8.0 SM-T30 too. So, to root it, download Odin, then download TWRP (which is Team Win Recovery Project). If you have Lollipop (5.x) version go to Link 1. If you have Marshmallow (6.x) then go to Link 2. Link 1 : www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347801968 Link 2: http://redirect.viglink.com/?key=bb...ww.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24591000424953305
First turn off your device fully and press power button + volume down + home. You will go to download mode. Connect the usb cord to the computer. After the file you have downloaded on your computer, drag the file to the desktop. Go to Odin and and press AP (second clickable button from vertical view). Then find the file from the desktop and click (open) it. Wait until it says RESET and OK. The device is going to reboot. Then, on the computer, download SuperSU from this link. Link: https://download.chainfire.eu/1001/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.78-20160905010000.zip
Then transfer the file to the Samsung Device into the Download section (if you don't have a SD CARD) or to the SD CARD.
Reboot to Recovery mode (TWRP) by pressing Power button + Volume Up button + Home button. After, go to install and go to the desired place you put the SuperSU file and click on it. Then it will say Flash Zip? Swipe to say yes. Then reboot. After that reboot, then go to Play Store and download BusyBox by Stephen (Stericson) and download SuperSU from Chainfire. Then that is all! You have rooted your device and good luck on adventuring the Android World!

[GUIDE] Rooting Galaxy Tab 10.1 - ICS

Hello everybody.
I had some hard time rooting my tablet because of the broken links and outdated guides that didn't work if you had updated to stock ICS. After some hours of tinkering I managed to find the correct files for rooting it so here's and up to date guide for rooting the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with the latest ICS OTA update.
For the record my tablet is GT-P7500 with 3G. This guide should also work for GT-P7510 which is WiFi-only. Please leave a reply if it worked for your other model so I can include it here! Please also tell me if there are mistakes in the guide or you have a problem at some point.
If you follow these steps you will void your warranty.
The package can be downloaded from the signature, or in a single file here:
MIRROR - 1 (Down at the moment)
MIRROR - 2 (Mediafire)
The package ROOT-GT-P7500.rar includes:
A recent version of Odin (v3.07 - 2013)
Samsung USB drivers for Windows
Odin flashable TWRP recovery
TWRP flashable SuperSu
1 - Preparation
Extract the files to a place on your computer.
Make sure Kies isn't running on your PC. Look for its icon in the notification area.
Install "Samsung_USB_Driver_1.5.5.0.exe".
Move the file "Flashable_SuperUser.zip" to the root of your sdcard.
Open "Odin3 v3.07.exe" on your PC.
Press the "PDA" button and select "recovery-TWRP-P4-P7500.tar".
Leave Odin open on the PC.
2 - Download mode
Turn off your tablet.
Connect the USB cable.
Hold POWER + VOLUME DOWN until you see some Android images.
Press VOLUME UP, wait a moment until you get to another screen an press it again.
You should now be in "Download mode".
Open Odin and make sure that the first ID:COM column has a bluish colours and some text like "0:[COM4]". The ID:COM turns blue whever Odin has detected connection between your PC and the tablet. If it's still white/grey something is wrong with the USB connection or the Samsung USB-driver.
3 - The flashing
Now everything should be ready for Odin to flash you a new recovery. Don't change any of the default settings other than what's mentioned here.
Press "Start" in Odin to begin the flash, it should only take a few seconds. If your tabletreboots everything went fine!
If you have problems with Odin detecting your tablet, try rebooting your computer and your tablet, and using a different USB port. It's probably a driver problem.
Now turn off your tablet to enter the new TWRP recovery.
Hold POWER + VOLUME DOWN until you see some Android images.
Press VOLUME DOWN once and then VOLUME UP once to enter recovery.
Use TWRP to backup your current ROM in case something goes wrong or you want to return to stock ROM some time. Google "TWRP guide" if you don't know how to use it.
Once the backup is done, press "Install" in the TWRP main menu.
Locate the "Flashable_SuperUser.zip" and flash it.
If it flashed without errors, reboot your tablet and see if you now have SuperSu within your apps.
You should now have root access!
4 - Custom ROMs
If you want to install custom ROMs, find a flashable ZIP of your favourite ROM and put it on your SDCARD.
You might want to use a program like TitaniumBackup to back up all your apps so you can restore them later on your new ROM.
Follow the above steps from step 4 to enter recovery.
Backup your ROM again.
Press "Wipe" and then wipe cache, dalvik-cache, system and do the factory-reset.
Press "Install" and locate your ROM's ZIP-file.
Flash it and reboot!
That's about it. For long-time reliability I've included the file package in the signature in a split rar file (XDA doesn't allow big files). Download them all and then extract only one of them like any other rar file. If none of the mirrors aren't working and you have a problem downloading it from the sig, feel free to send me a PM.
If this helped you, please press thanks!

I have never user UnlockRoot. This is the manual way of doing it. If UnlockRoot works then it's probably easier for beginners to use that method
What is this unlockroot you speak of

It's an automated tool that supposedly roots your device in a couple of steps. I don't know if it works but I know that a couple of users have successfully rooted their tablets usimg this guide.

Did you at least manage to install CWM or TWRP recovery? There should be a button called "Mount USB-storage". Press it and connect the tablet to your PC, it should show up as a storage device. If that doesn't work you can always use ADB PUSH on Windows to move files to your phone that is in recovery mode. There are several guides for that.
EDIT: Nvm, didn't notice you had fixed it already.
Hey man thanks for this guide. I've been flashing my sgs1900 here & there for a few years but just acquired a SG 10.1 tab so obviously I had to root it for flashing some custom roms later on. Anyway I can see things are more or less the same, but still just a little bit different enough to want to have a good guide at hand before I get all smug at myself later on for thinking I'm a rom king
Excellent guide & thank you for all the required files. KUDOS!
Sdcard
Sorry, I'm new to this. I understand everything except the part that says "Move the file "Flashable_SuperUser.zip" to the root of your sdcard." how do I do this? When I hook up the tablet to my pc, I do not see a sdcard folder.

My apologies, that part really is a bit confusing. "The root of your sdcard" means that you don't put it in any folder. It's the upmost folder level that the user can access without root rights.

Will there be any issues running this from 64bit Win7?
I flashed the TWRP file using attached odin and recovery file.
No issues during flash, but when I goto TWRP the screen flickers.
Just like the refresh rate is not ok.
Someone ideas?
It is the P7500 Galaxy Tab 10.1

Thanks :good:
Currently I succeeded by using the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2098429
and using the rom [ROM] [JB 4.3.1] CM10.2/SGT7 for P4WIFI and P4 [20140223] accordingly. It was a frightning night but we servived (me and my tablet).
Thanks again.
well.. I broke it
i've followed this instruction and forget to sweep content before rom instalation and my rom is broken.
I've been searching a way to transfer another rom data to my tab memory but somehow my laptop couldn't detect TWRP v4.2.2 version.
I'm still searching for another TWRP version that can be file pushing on to TWRP directly from my laptop.
is there any suggestion?
thank you

Use TWRP 2.6.3.0 explained in two post lower, then read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2304122
howto use adb to push a new rom to the tablet (zipfile to flash). Be patience, takes a long time.

FYI, I just used Towelroot to root my Galaxy Tab 10.1 with ICS. Easy 1-click solution.

[Q] Accidently closed TWRP

Hi guys, I will try and explain this as simple as possible.
I as trying to install cyanogenmod 11 on my phone, and everything seemed to go alright until I made a mistake. I used TWRP to first backup my stock rom on the phone, and then when I was supposed to reboot into the app, I accidently rebooted the phone.
Now the problem is that the phone does not have any OS installed, so what is happening is that it's trying to boot into an OS that's not there, and instead ends up being stuck on the Samsung logo. I can enter Odin mode just fine, but for the love of god I cannot seem to figure how to get back into the TWRP application, or if it is even possible.
I do have the backup of the ROM stored on my SD card, and I've now moved it over to my PC, but it still does not seem to help me in any way. I've trid to launch the Odin3 program on my pc, in an attempt to to try and launch in TWRP through that, but it has all been without any success, so now I come to this board of guinesses, asking for help!
As an added bit of information, this was my first time trying to install a custom rom, so yeah.. Puff..
- The lost Dane.
- Edit -
I tried to "flash" by doing what this link said, in the hopes that my phone would boot into the program, but alas, it only booted back to the logan saying "samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005" :/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30694404
-- Edit Edit --
To make it super clear ... If I could get back into TWRP, I would be able to run my backup. I know how that app works, I just simply cannot get back into, and I do not know if it is even possible. I've searched and tried various guides to "flash TWRP through Odin" but it has all been without any success... :/

Did you hold volume up+home+power button to get into recovery mode?
In case your twrp get corrupted due to flashing failure previously
1. Download twrp from the following. 2.6.3.7 if you were running 4.3 or 2.6.3.8 if you were running 4.4.2(not sure if 2
6.3.8 is 4.3 compatible). For odin flashable use the one with .tar
http://www.techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hlte
2. Get into download mode(vol down+home+power)
3. Link the downloaded .tar to pda in odin. Odin log should show 'added' once you connect phone to pc
4. Start the process. Once finish phone should boot into recovery automatically but it'll try to boot back into OS. Just hold vol up+home+power button to get back into recovery

When I do that, I get an ultra short blue text appearing on the screen, before it goes into downloading mode, with a red text saying "Could not do normal boot." So it basically goes right into odin mode.

I edited my post. You need to reflash twrp
You are an absolute god. I wish I could show my appreciation, but I fear words isn't even enough to even begin.. I managed to get into TWRP now, though my backup rom doesn't show up anymore, but I suppose that's because I run a different version of TWRP than I did first? Idk, but really appreciate that you were able to get me back into TWRP.

I really do appreciate the help you've given, but I have one final request, and I really do hope it isn't too much to ask. Say I am unable to find the same version of TWRP, I will have to actually flash cyanogenmod onto my device. I don't think it should be too tough now that I've managed to launch into TWRP, because now I should be able to just put the rom on my SD card, and then install the files, no?
if it helps you, my device is SM-N9005, and I had 4.3 when I started this whole thing. Cheers!
- Edit.
I tried to download the Nighty build from CyanogenMod's own homepage, but when I try and install it, it says failed, giving me an erro that says "This package is for "hlexx" devices: This is a." That's all it says ... Hmfh. Sooooooooo... Yes! I'm in recovery mode now, but without any rom. :/

Yes you can flash any cm based rom.
You can also flash any stock rom such as SweetRom/X-Note/BobCat as most developers still keeping 4.3 rom in their thread.

Believe so. It's because of updater script i guess as described in the link

Try flashing chenglu's 6.0.4.5 recovery.

Just the same as you did for twrp. I think i read somewhere that changing recovery helped some people.
The worst just download sweetrom/x-note/bobcatrom or any stock 4.3 based rom if you deperately need the phone to boot up

So after having spent the better half of the night, I actually managed to get my phone to boot into cyanogenmod 11 ! But that joy was shortlived when I came to realize that wi-fi wasn't working, and I couldn't get it to work. I tried to factory reset as I had read would help, but alas it did no good. I figured I should try and run back a stock 4.4.2 rom and just be done with it, but that was when I realized I had lost my root (?!) so that wasn't really a possibility either, next I set out to try and find a way to root my phone now running cyanogenmod 11. I found a file here on XDA called "CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.tar" but whenever I try and flash that onto my phone, my phone just stays stuck saying "trying to enter into recovery mode" and does not really go anywhere from there. I can get back into recovery mode if I flash "n9005-cwm-recovery-6.0.4.5(1116)" onto the phone, like you said, but that still leaves me without root access, which I need to throw a rom onto my device?! Arrrgh, this is getting silly, I just wish I could go back to my backup/ default rom on the device, but I can't.

About the cf auto root make sure you flash the one for 4.3. I believe you flashed the one for 4.4.2.
Doesn't really matter whether you have root access or not as long as you can boot into custom recovery. Just flash any custom rom. It'll give you root anyway.
Still if you need root just make sure you flash cf auto root then flash twrp or chenglu recovery. Flash the one for 4.3 that's the most important

But when I have cyanogenmod 11 installed, is that then not 4.4.2 ? I suppose that's what's giving me trouble... I'll try and see if I can find the cf auto root for 4.3 and return back if I was successful or not. Again, thank you for being so patient..

And I've already tried that one 3 times, but every time I flash it, the phone reboots and keeps trying to enter into recovery mode, and is unable to do so before I've flashed n9005-cwm-recovery-6.0.4.5(1116) again
this is what it says;
"recovery booting...
Recovery is not seandroid enforcing
Set warranty bit : Recovery "

And I've already tried that one 3 times, but every time I flash it, the phone reboots and keeps trying to enter into recovery mode, and is unable to do so before I've flashed n9005-cwm-recovery-6.0.4.5(1116) again
this is what it says;
"recovery booting...
Recovery is not seandroid enforcing

You flashed 4.4.2 cm rom but you're on 4.3 booloader. So you need to use cf auto root for 4.3 which is available here

Just enter download mode and reflash twtp. I saw there are 4 different versions for 4.3(2.6.3.0/2 6.3.5/2.6.3.6/2.3.6.7). Flash 1 by 1 and see if it can restore your backup

You really are a boss with a heart of gold! I used the file you linked me, ran it, and sure enough it installed and gave me root access. Believe it or not, but I am learning from this! The whole thing about bootloader being different from the rom version was new to me. But I am up and running with root access now, so now I hope it shouldn't be too hard to get a stock rom thrown in. I've kinda given up on my backup. I no longer care for the files I had before, now I just want the phone up and running with wifi.. X_ X
- Edit
Or do you have any clue as to what is causing wifi to not work? I really don't mind the rom at all, I quite like it, but where I live wifi is mandatory as it's a lowered area with mountains around me, meaning LTE really isn't viable while at home.

Not sure about the wifi problem but yes you're good to go with a new rom. Make sure to choose only for 4.3 bootloader else you will run into problem later

Could you be so kind and to link me to a rom that works for 4.3 bootloader? I am so paranoid I'll end up picking something for 4.4.2, like I was about to do now. :S

Alright.. Time to get things done right! So just being sure I do it alright. I pick this one; http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2498687
Download the one for 4.3 bootloader, once download I place the zip folder on my SD card
- Then boot into Recovery mode, wipe phone clean, and then install the rom directly from inside of Recovery mode?

[GUIDE] [OFFICIAL ROM] [GT-N5100] 4.4.2 Kitkat Update!

Hello everyone, Im new here and this is my first thread. Please forgive me if I make mistakes. And sorry, I got no screenshots.
Did you ever wish you had Android KitKat on your GT-N5100? Well wish no more! The Official Update has already been released to Korea and Poland! It shouldn't take long for it to reach to other countries.
But if you are impatient, you can flash it now via Odin! ☺

Make sure you remove ALL signs of root (e.g. Xposed,Busybox etc.)
Make sure all the apps in your External SD is moved to your Internal Storage. (To avoid force closing problems)
Make sure you have USB Debugging Enabled in Settings>Developer Options>USB Debugging
BEFORE THE PROCEDURE MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A BACK UP BECAUSE THIS CAN SOFT BRICK YOUR DEVICE.I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING YOU DO WITH YOUR PHONE/TABLET/PHABLET
LETS BEGIN!!!
Download the Firmware from the Post below
After that unzip it and you will see 2 files, just put your attention to the tar.md5 files
Install Odin3 (Links below)
Now you need to install Samsung Kies. (Link also Below)
After installing kies go to the Odin3 Folder, Right click on it and hit "Run as Administrator"
Now that your done with the PC's Part. Put your attention on your tablet and shutdown/Power Off
After that press Volume Down and Home for a few seconds until you get into a screen with a Warning, just press Volume Up to continue.
And after that connect your phone to your PC via USB and Odin should automatically detect it.
An ID:COM[Number] will show in a box on the upper right and then click on PDA and go to the directory of where you put the unziped firmware folder you downloaded from SamMobile. Select the tar.md5 file.
After that make sure you dont have re-partition checked. Double check if you need to and hit "START"
PLEASE DONT REMOVE YOUR PHONE UNTIL YOU SEE A "PASS" MESSAGE IN THE BOX.
After that it should reboot and you now have Android 4.4.2 Kitkat on your GT-N5100!
Good Luck!

I would not flash official 4.4.2 kitkat with odin, over kies or over ota. You will get kitkat bootloader with knox, no write permissions for your apps to sd card, no working rooting method which would not trigger knox and void your warranty.
The rooting method he linked does not work for Exynos 4412 devices. Read the comments to the original geohots post in s5 forum or at least the towelroot thread in this section.

Yeah it doesn't work, use CF-Auto-Root. Works perfectly, but you will see SuperSU Force closing or in some cases, it is not installed to fix this, install/update SuperSU
If and onlyif it doesn't work, try again.

Sorry for the newbie question but how can I efficiently and completely backup my device? Any apps/software I can use? I know that I can just make a copy of all my photos, videos, etc to my laptop but how about my apps and its data? Will they be deleted after flashing this firmware?
I've got a problem here .
My simcard doesn't work .
It keep saying emergency calls only
Sent from my GT-I8262 using XDA Free mobile app

efs problematic after flashing firmware N5100
HI, its my first post on xda and new to this world so i will try to be reasonable here.
i followed the steps mentioned in this thread except one, i.e. i didnt make a backup. Now my n5100 wont move beyond initial samsung logo and the recovery mode says "cannot mount / efs"
i also found a thread which makes some excellent points (see below), but i would still like to know if any of you tried this and had a similar problem. if so, did you find a DIY method

Note 4 5.1.1 root failed, stuck in restart loop, please help me

Hey guys, I kinda really need your help a lot,
I tried rooting my Galaxy Note 4 5.1.1 (SM-N910C), as shown in a youtube video (I can't link outside of the side, it was the ''Root the galaxy Note 4 on Android 5.0 Lollipop'' from Tim Schofield).
The video basically had me download Odin and restart into download mode and use a CF-root file. Apparently I am a complete idiot who didn't realize that I have 5.1.1 of lollipop.
I had the reactivation lock on off as well.
When I tried to run Odin as shown in the video however, it said 'succes' but my phone got stuck in a reboot loop. It just kept rebooting and rebooting, and even me removing the battery didn't fix it.
I have tried wiping the cache and doing a factory reset, as was advised when someone else asked a similar question. That didn't fix it.
I tried downloading the stock ROM for 5.1.1 as advised in an article (after reading somewhere that the problem could have been caused by using an original tar file for a former firmware, which seems to be correct) but when I try to load the tar md5 file into Odin, the program freezes and I can't do anything.
Please, I beg you to help me,I've been looking for a solution for the past 3 hours. If this isn't the right place to post this, I'm sorry and please refer me to a more suitable place.
Thank you in advance for your time. Really, thank you so very much if you take the time to help me on this. I'm not too tech savvy but I think I've given all relevant information.
Read what it says on the top, that might be your answer:
https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/
i can only suggest re-installing your firmware via odin.

Possibly you got a bad odin download. Go here to download your stock rom. After selecting your file, at the bottom of the page will be a download link for odin with flashing instructions. After flashing this should get you back to a working stock ROM. Then flash your custom recovery with odin. Then you can boot into your custom recovery and flash any custom ROM zip file. Custom ROMs usually come rooted already or if stock is your preference pick up an already rooted stock ROM for your phone in the forums.

Did you try waiting for a while?
Odin checks the tar file to ensure that it matches the checksum so that you won't hard brick due to a broken tar file.
Do not forget to run Odin as administrator

1ANIF is probably older version and COI4 a recent one. Because COI4 is based on 5.1.1 on 1NAF dont know.
This just happened to me. I was able to flash a 5.1.1 kernel that allowed for root and my phone then booted.

Just passing through and saw this, so to kill a little time :
Latest TWRP v3.0.0-0 for the Samsung Galaxy SM-A800I.
NOTE:
This is a test build and requires a tester who knows how to flash with Odin and recover if required.
It may boot it may not, it sometimes takes a few tries to get the configuration right as I don't own this device.
If it doesn't boot take close note of what happens and describe in detail.
FLASHING CUSTOM STUFF VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY. THIS WILL TRIP THE KNOX FLAG.
Install:
Flash with Odin 3.10.7 using the AP slot.
Uncheck Auto-reboot.
Reboot to recovery immediately after flashing using POWER + HOME + VOL DOWN, as soon as the screen goes blank change to VOL UP whilst still holding the other buttons.
TWRP should now boot.

The recovery you provided works just fine! There was no issue booting up the phone, i havn't tried to flash a zip file with it yet, but i think it will work.
Other options like terminal and adb open up correctly on the local machine, and there is no reason for them to give issues when actually used for side loading and command input.
I have a recovery.log file if needed.
Thanks a lot, that was the first recovery for Galaxy A8 Sm-A800i.
I request @cheupe to move the post to the top and change the status to solved. All credits to @ashyx for successfully compiling the recovery.
Note - Flashing this recovery, or anything other than stock, might make your wifi to stop remembering passwords on reboot. (Only if you have flashed a custom boot.img /kernel). Flashing only the recovery without other modifications should theoretically not cause the issue.
Solution-
Open up system/build.prop, find "ro.securestorage.support=true" and change the "true" to "false" and reboot. Enter your wifi passwords once again and it should be permanant even after reboot.

Thanks for the feedback, glad it works. Now you guys have the door open for custom roms and root. I will officially release this to XDA if you are happy everything is working.
Regarding your note on the wifi, Recovery shouldn't affect the wifi. Custom kernels that dont have the "ro.securestorage.support=false" set usually have this issue. However that can be fixed.
Did you have an issue with wifi as that is a new one on me with custom recovery?

The wifi problem occurs everytime i flash something that is not stock. Flashing a custom boot.img for root caused the issue. It was fixed with tweaking the build.prop.
Now everytime i flash anything, be it boot or recovery via odin, i have to tweak the build file. The only exception to this is flashing the stock firmwhere.

Well as the issue was probably caused by the modified boot.img, its gonna occur only for those who have rooted their phones using that particular method. I am pretty sure flashing just the recovery you provided will not cause the issue. The note was for who are here after rooting. I still dont get it why the build file changes when i flashed the recovery, even though i had tweaked it and not touched the kernel after that. I dont understand the reason for it to change back to true after flashing something such as a recovery.

Strange I've never heard of that before, I don't see how flashing a custom recovery affects the build.prop they are totally unrelated? Ah well stranger things have happened. :silly:
Custom kernel posted.

I concur. Thats strange to say at the least. Why would flashing something after flashing a custom kernel change the build.prop. I guess, somethings are just the way they are

What did you flash?
You can recover by flashing stock firmware.
NOTE: One of the main reasons for flashing custom recovery is to make a full backup of your device.
ALWAYS ensure this is done BEFORE flashing custom stuff.

Try flashing the corresponding uninstall x64 zip. It will reverse all the steps that the install did. Good luck.
