[SOLVED] Can't get into recovery mode. Stuck with "this build is for development..."
I was at my last step in rooting my htc one m9+. To install the SuperSU i had to go to the recovery mode. But this message came up
"this build is for development purposes only. Do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's written permission. Failure to comply may lead to legal action"
I'm not that expert in phones. I just followed tutorials on xda and youtube. Now I'm stuck. Not knowing a way to root my phone. I searched, many have the same problem without the solution.
Please, Somebody HELP ME

Did you flash the exact custom recovery image for "M9+"?

No. In twrp site they provided Image for only HTC One m9. Not for m9+.
I'm now trying kingroot. Is it OK?

Here you go.

Solved
I can't explain how much happy i'm right now. Now i can get into recovery mode. Installing the exact recovery image is the solution.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-...-m9pw-t3116099
Now which supersu should i use? Is it ok if i download the latest (2.78) or is there any specific version for m9plus?

Try it.
I use 2.76(stable) and it was workable.
I think 2.78(beta) will be ok,too.

I've successfully rooted my phone. Thank you very much for your support.
In M9 plus can't I have the marshmallows. How to upgrade to it?

M9 plus never get marshmallows, unless mtk release their source code,

[How-To] Install CWM Recovery and ROOT BLU 5.0 C HD (And Other Blu C Devices)

(First of all, although I have been reading XDA forums for years, this is my very first post. So, I apologize in advance for any mistakes.)
FULL DISCLAIMER: This ROOT method isn't for novice users. You will want to be familiar with things like ADB, custom recoveries, and phone system partitions before beginning. Also, do all of the following AT YOUR OWN RISK. It's not my fault that you turned your brand new phone into a beautifully colored brick.
If you've found this post, then you are like me. You just got this great new Blu Color phone, and you want to root it. But, all you can find online are posts about failed attempts to root it. Well, thanks to a guide I found online, we can all now have ROOT. Hooray!! Using the guide, I was able to get both a fully functioning CWM and an easy ROOT. To find the guide, just Google "100% Working ROOT + CWM - Readback your ROM with SP-Flash Tools," and click the first link. This method should (in theory) work for all of the "Blu C" (aka Blu Color) Android 4.4.2 phone variants. But, I can only VERIFY that it works for the Blu 5.0 C HD.
That's really all I have to say. Just follow that guide in order to get CWM installed, and then flash a SuperSU zip from recovery to achieve ROOT. I will say that watching the YouTube video is probably more helpful than reading the guide, just FYI. The ROOT sticks for me even after reboot. I've included some screenshots to "prove" that I have achieved ROOT on this device.
However, if any of you are brave enough to use them, I will give you the custom recovery file and scatter.txt file which I created. These files should save you some time and effort, by allowing you to skip forward to the last two steps (i.e. installing recovery and flashing the SuperSU zip). I've attached these two files to this post.
Quick note: In order to access the "download mode" needed for the SP Flash Tool, you need to remove the device's battery, then connect the device to your computer while HOLDING the Vol+ button. Once you have CWM Recovery installed, you can boot into recovery mode by either pressing Vol+ AND Vol- AND Power while the phone is off, then pressing Vol+ again. OR, you can enter recovery mode using the ADB command "adb reboot recovery".
ONLY use the files attached to this post IF you have a Blu 5.0 C HD. You will likely BRICK your device if you have ANY OTHER phone. Even the Blu 5.0 C Mini is probably too different.
Someone in the Google+ "Blu Development" community asked me a really good question, and I just wanted to post the reply here as well.
QUESTION: I tried this, but I never got the "read back" to work. How do you do it?
ANSWER: In order to get "read back" to work, you need to:
1. Unplug your phone and remove battery
2. Open up Windows device manager
3. Plug in your phone while holding the Vol+ button with battery still removed
4. Click on the new device which appears in the device manager (named "MediaTek Preloader," or something similar). Right click properties and then update the driver... Manually install the driver provided in the guide I referenced. Also, the video on the guide has a good walk through for this step, at around time 5:50. You need to be quick for this step, because the new device only appears in the device manager for a few seconds after the phone is plugged in.
5. Remove device again, start up SP Flash Tool, and get everything set up.
6. Click the "read back" button THEN reconnect phone to computer while holding Vol+ with battery removed. The read back process should start. It took my phone 22 minutes on my kinda slow laptop.
Hope this helps someone!

Reasonz20,
I'd love to post the link. But, I XDA doesn't allow me (as a "new" member) to post links yet. But, the YouTube video is embedded in the guide I provided, which you can find by searching for "100% Working ROOT + CWM - Readback your ROM with SP-Flash Tools," in Google.
And, for posterity's sake, you can find the YouTube video directly by searching in Google for "How to Root every MTK China Phone - Readback With SP-Flash - Root + CWM on INEW V8 [HD]," and clicking the first link.
Hope this helps!

Well, yes. But going into the specifics it perhaps beyond me. But I did install CWM in a kindle fire once through linux, because the driver wasn't working in Windows for me. However... For you... The easiest solution may be to download an illegal copy of Windows and run it in a Linux virtual box. Maybe? Or research how to do it in Linux. Sorry that I'm not more help.

Hi everyone, well i recently purchased a BLU Studio 5.0 C (not HD) so can i install the recovery from the 5.0 HD in my phone? i don't want to brick my phone
Thanks in advance for any answer =)
The process should be the same, regardless of the model, for any of the phone with MTK chipsets.
That said, this SHOULD work. Be sure to follow the instructions exactly, and take your time. If you follow all the steps, and something goes wrong, the backup you do at the beginning can bail you out.
Use rom manager. Download it from play store and select your device and flash CWM custom recovery.
Not for my Blu Stdio 5.0
I few day ago i ask if i can used this recovery for my BLU Studio 5.0 (not HD) and apparently couple of people say yes... well, my phone is brick... i took it to where i buy it cus it have warranty and i told them that is just stop working lol, they give me a new one with no question about it. Awesome!
So don't use it in your blu if is not BLU Studio 5.0 HD.
Guys can someone please provide stock ROM for studio 5c hd

Need Beginner's Guide, so Custom Rom can be installed

***UPDATE***
Thanks to reply, I have now successfully done everything I set out to do, and created follow-up guide!
You can find it HERE
Original Post below:
Hello Everyone!
I'd like to start off saying I used to have a Nexus 4, with TWRP and Lollipop-based CyanogenMod. I was able to install this all by myself, and keep both TWRP and the ROM updated. I also flashed custom radio to unlock the LTE capability on that phone. My tool of choice to help customize the phone was Nexus Root toolkit.
I was able to follow guides posted long ago on these forums, to do what I wanted with the Nexus 4 back in 2013/2014, but it seems I'm not so capable these days. I've hit such a roadblock with lack of root and constant stutters/slowdowns with everyday use on my current device, the Axon 7, that I must get away from the stock software. I heard it was not so easy with other devices, and while a few devs have posted wonderful guides for users, it's just not enough for a true beginner like me. From skimming guides posted, it seems like devs already expect you to have installed custom recovery, or unlocked bootloader. Then when I try to do these things, so I can move onto custom ROM, it seems the guides are out of date or just not step-by-step enough for me to use, and I don't want to take a risk and brick my device trying things that I'm not sure about. I'm a power user through and through, but not so up-to-date or knowledgeable enough to be able to follow the guides already on the forums. Consider me 1 out of 5 on tech level for Android software.
Here's the model/software already on my device: Stock everything, from bootloader and recovery, to ROM.
Model: A2017U, Nougat 7.0 on B15 ROM
What I still need clarification on:
with my device already running on nougat, do I need to install the nougat universal bootloader/radio I saw in earlier guides?
will LineageOS have any downgrades in regard to audio quality, on either the headphone output or speakers?
will my ROM of choice have Daydream VR support? if not what would be needed?
this is not a big deal, but do I need a special app or entire custom ROM if I'm interested in a temporary unroot to use apps like Android Pay?
Here's what I want on my device: TWRP, LineageOS with root.
If anyone, expert users and devs alike, could reply with current known-good info about the following, I and a lot of other users would be eternally grateful:
unlocking the bootloader, installing TWRP, and LineageOS, in a stupidly long but simple step-by-step process.
Quick follow-up info:
What I can do so far: download current LineageOS nightly, correct version of root .zip, and TWRP from official websites
NO, I'm not good with using ADB on Windows to get things done. I had to ask a friend to help me install it on windows, the guide he sent was much easier than the one i was using, and he still had to walk me through how to use it once installed to help me unlock bootloader/root on another device, Zenphone Zoom if anyone is interested.
PLEASE, don't link me to other guides for any part of this process, if the steps are thorough and relevant, please copy here, of course with all due credit given to original poster.
Feel free to let me know if more info about my knowledge level or device is needed to help you work on my request.
Thanks for reading, here's to several years more of everyone enjoying this wonderful device!
ok there is three real steps, but it can be aheadache, mainly because you didn't unlock before going to nougat.
Step 1. Downgrade to B29 Marshmallow - go here https://www.zteusa.com/axon-7/ and on the support tab in software updates is a full B29 software package. Download it, unzip it once, then put the update.zip file on your SD card.
- on the phone, in developers options, turn on OEM unlocking (it is needed to flash from sd card)
- boot phone to recovery, choose update from sd card, pick the update.zip from the sdcard, the phone will flash the B29 software. It is a bit slow, let it do what it needs to do.
Step 2. Unlock phone and install TWRP - go here https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/edl-emergency-dl-mode-twrp-unlock-t3553514 download the miflash program, fastboot unlock program, and twrp for B29.
- instructions are all there, just do what it says.
Step 3, Install LineageOS - https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/unofficial-lineageos-14-1-zte-axon-7-t3545679 very straight forward. Don't forget to install first the bootloader, then the rom, then gapps.
What makes this so hard is not being easily able to unlock in nougat. Most of us here unlocked way before marshmallow
No need to downgrade to b29.

I was thinking this too. Should be as simple as the steps below
1) Flash signed twrp using axonroot tool - this pry's open the door
2) Using twrp, flash fastboot (b20_fbop or something?) - opens door wider
3) Enable usb debugging and oem unlocking in developer options
4) reboot to fastboot/bootloader mode
5) fastboot oem unlock - door is now wide open
Done.

Is that a "should work" or "does work" because I'm trying to root and install LOS also on stock non rooted nougat Axon 7 and so far I've gotten nowhere and no one seems to be able to give me a list that says Yes this works
Help needed
I followed the instructions and is apparently in a boot loop. Initially it was working but now it is not. I can't even wipe the device to start from scratch. Is there another ROM available to try?

Ok, I've edited your post to clear some of the clutter and numbered everything so I can answer everything.
1. No, bootloader updates are only for users who haven't updated to B15 (through official means)
2. Only audio issues are with the front facing speakers. The way they sound is if you turn them up to 100% and then push it even higher to like 140%. So if you keep it at about 71% they sound normal. Check this guide here to get even better quality on overall sound (headphones, speakers)
3.B15 and LOS both work with Daydream. I currently use LOS with my Daydream headset currently.
4.Magisk with this kernel here. Currently have fully functioning Android Pay with LOS.
5. This is a big problem. If you're not comfortable with ADB you should maybe rethink messing with this phone. EDL mode (which is how I flash TWRP and subsequently the B20 bootloader to unlock) is very similar to ADB and the tools needed to flash in EDL can brick your device. Learning how to use ADB isn't bad but it's good as a fallback so you're not relying on strangers to help you out in a pinch (which most will, I just like having the ability to do things mostly myself).

I'll keep on saying this as much as I need to, I get where you're coming from. There's a lot of data about the correct way of doing things. Best thing to do is read and search. When I got my phone B29 was the new hotness and there was a bunch of older data floating around that I had to sift through. But I did it, I sifted and found my own way and combined two different methods to get my phone rooted and flashed with LOS. Honestly, the trial and error, the searching, the sifting is totally worthwhile because while this device is /DIFFERENT/ compared to methods for HTC and Samsung products, it's not harder. It's better to get yourself properly antiquated to the device you plan on flashing/hacking/rooting because there is /always/ a chance for bricking. Then another thread will be created asking for help to unbrick. Take the time, read now, read everything, understand your device, then push forward.

I quoted this because this thread is like the third I've seen in the last couple days. But to offer some help, this is the guide that I've followed with two phones one running B29 stock and one running B15 Stock. It remains the same because of the use of EDL. It's also good in case you want to go back to complete stock (which at the time was speculated would brick your device) but I read between the lines and discovered that it's just not a big deal. Once you get TWRP installed, make sure your Data partition is EXT4, flash LOS, flash GApps and you're good to go.
The hardest part of the process, is getting your drivers to be recognized properly for the EDL flashing tool to work. Anti-Virus softwares tend to throw false positives with tools like the EDL Flashing tool. I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 JUST to have a flashing station ready JIC. Once I did that, smooth sailing.

I've already used EDL mode from that page to put a fresh copy of stock nougat to, among other things, reduce the potential issues upgrading causes. So all I should have to do is flash B15-NEW_TWRP (Nougat) from that page and then fastboot unlock?
from there reset data/cache, flash custom ROM.
flash gapps
reboot, install apps.

Thank you for the guide, but I managed to get everything done without having to downagrade from Nougat. I was having issues with my Windows variant recognizing my phone after drivers were installed so I used Linux Mint 18.1 and everything went smooth as a whistle. I think the mods should pin your thread post.
I followed the rootjunkie YouTube videos, worked perfectly and the files were all available.

If anyone still uses this phone I not only have a working root but I also have Xposed, Magsik and others that would normally need a custom recovery for. I was able to do this by rooting my phone with king root. After my phone achieved root I used a script to convert King Root to SuperSu. Once that was complete I used Flashfire to flash any zip or img file I felt as though I needed. I'll provide the required links to the files below.
Download this version of King Root only because it was the version I was successful with.
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/kingro...-release/kingroot-4-5-0-android-apk-download/
Download the Script written by Mr. W0lf with this link:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/mxzbt42xypvn2ts/Replace_Kinguser_with_SuperSU-v2.4.zip
If you use this script and it works for you thank Mr. W0lf
Follow this guide to use the script:

If you use this guide please hit the thanks for Sahilsinghlodhi
With those steps out of the way download Flashfire either thru the following link or playstore.

I would think it would go without saying, but, if you use FlashFire and it works to get whatever it is your trying to flash then thank THIS MAN.
He is a real live legend with his invaluable work for and with the community. He is indispensable.... THANK THE MAN... The One, The Only CHAINFIRE!
I have read about someone compiling a TWRP for this device but since I didn't use or try I cannot give an opinion on it. His name is Stark_Inc on it.
I successfully flashed TWRP using the provided like below. As far as the TWRP is concerned it worked flawlessly. Just follow the instructions. If you ever owned an older LG and know how to boot into TWRP using the volume keys this should be a breeze for you. The problem that bricked my devices was nothing more then a id 10 T error. If you dont know what an id 10 t is the say this outloud and it will make perfect sense. I am sofa king we todd did.

If you use it and it works.... Thank the man.
THE LESSON.
HARD BRICKED DEVICE.
I was able to install TWRP via the link below. It works just as the developer says. While in TWRP I flashed either Xposed or Magsik... I cant remember for sure, but, what I do know is that whatever I flashed HARD BRICKED my device. With so little resources to find I eventually gave up. Although the battery LED does indicate that the phone is charging I cannot get any other signs of life. So until the time comes that someone can either help me or I find the resources to help myself I would have to say BE CAUTIOUS and BE PREPAIRED for your device to fail. With that being said, it also goes for any modification all the way from kingroot to flashfire to twrp. It is a risk. You have to weigh the pros and cons of the modification and if you do end up bricking your phone... OWN IT. I would think it goes without saying (but I will say anyways) Nobody is putting a gun to your head and making you F**K up your device. Sometimes you have to pay to play. In my case, I have a very pretty nick knack, but I ONLY BLAME MYSELF!

brick axon 7 A2017G (android 7.1.1.)

Good evening owner of the axon 7 I decided to finally get into the unlocking of my phone in order to root. I followed the first step. Install the twrp on the phone. I had the Nexus 4 and the LG G3 I managed to do it without problem.
There I am the steps I had problems with drivers that I had to reinstall. When then I made the invitation to order I had trouble to have the "QUSB__BULK".
When I managed it with XDA's Axon7_EDL_Tool software (compatible with my French axon in 7.1.1) I managed to install twrp except that ... behind bootloop I get stuck on the zte logo !!! I press volume up the twrp is displayed. I decided to use my update on my SD. I realize that my phone reference US (A2017U) !!! I do not understand how I did to find myself with that !!! However, I used the tutorial link [GUIDE] [A2017G] Install TWRP, Unlock BL, Flash Custom ROM. Is it because of Axon EDL tool? Yet I read and read it is compatible with the euro version A2017G! I do not understand and I panic !!! So I tried to use my backup Update (the last update of ZTE performed in August) and I find myself without the twrp! And I still have the bootloop ... How to remove this brick please ???? Thank you very much for your help !!!:crying::crying::crying:

that is not very understandable to be honest. Just know that any misstep can put you into a hard brick.
If your phone is an A2017G then you have to install A2017G stuff, NO MATTER WHAT. The name will change to A2017U after installing a ROM, but that's normal since most ROMs are based in U firmware. Your phone is still a G.
You cannot install an official SD card update from zte if you are on TWRP, it will fail. Those can only be installed through the stock recovery
To unbrick your phone, first enter EDL mode (vol+ vol- and insert the cable). Tell me what driver appears on the Device manager (QUSB_BULK, Qualcomm HS-USB, ZTE diagnostics)
If it is Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008, you'll need a stock EDL file (download one FOR THE A2017G, from the EDL Tool thread). Then install it using EDL Tool
Reading your post I didn't see you unlock the bootloader first?
That can cause major problems.
The best app to use to reinstall your firmware is the Miflash app.
Ive used the Edl tool and the Axon 7 toolkit and both are good for certain flashing and unlocking.
If you have a A2017G make sure all software is related to that device to be sure.

don't mislead. if you're using Controllerboy's guide you have to install a signed TWRP prior to unlocking the bootloader.

I'm not using anyone's guide, (I always read several guides not just one BTW)
Show me where Twrp is installed on a locked bootloader, I think that info is misleading.
The twrp site instructions require an unlocked bootloader.
Cyanogen Mod also states and unlocked bootloader is required.

The twrp site has nothing to do with specific per-device unlocking. The point of signed TWRP is being able to install it on a locked phone without wreaking havoc.
I don't have to show you. He said which guide he used, go check it up. But don't mess it up more than it is.

I do know the difference between "signed" and "unsigned" software.
I'll let you help this guy out if you think my info is misleading, good luck
Hello,
We can close the subject, I managed to do it again my phone thanks to the update file (the last update ZTE) I still had in the micro SD card.
The latter by putting it in my samsung tablet I saw that my content was not finally erased. So I put the sd in my tel and suddenly the content was finally visible in the part apply update from sdcard. I could make a flash with the update and everything is fine it works! ouffff
Anyway all my apologies I had misread the tutorial.
I did not see that it was compatible only with Marshmallow and not Nougat. I was in 7.1.1 ... I focused too much on the models (A2017x) and the updates of ZTE (B4 / B5 / B6 ...). Then my english is bad. I had to use google translation but no apology is my fault. I should have been careful. I am a bit rusty since Nexus 4 (or it was super easy and there was a huge community) and even the LG G3. I find the ZTE Axon 7 more boring to root, to unlock ...
In short again thank you and sorry for this post !!!

for information I also based on a second site in French where it was explained that it was necessary to first put the TWRP and after and only after unlocked the bootloader. In short, I lacked vigilance and concentration. Even on the French tutorial it was marked in red that it was incompatible Nougat. I read diagonally and made a mix with the other XDA tutorial. That's it I did not care. Do not fight lol The phone works is essential. Now I would like to know why I have a driver problem on my PC it seems to me but that's another subject! Thank you all anyway !!!

what kind of driver problem? EDL or mtp?
Honestly MTP works when it wants to work, so I can't help you if your PC doesn't recognize it. EDL is another matter though, pretty easy.

How to upload LineageOS to i337 with locked bootloader I337UCSGOK3 and other things..

Hello to all forum members. :highfive:
Recently I got into my hands the Samsung S4 SGH-I337 version of AT&T, at least I think so. The current version of Android on it is 5.0.1.
When I set the phone to recovery mode, I think I see the modem version: I337UCSGOK3. Correct me if this is not the modem version, but I am sharing it because I guess this information will be helpful to make alternative software installation.
I've already spent 7 days trying to change the software, reading one by one what I will find about such an update. I tried tons of instructions and they all didn't let me do upload/change somehow software nor even install TWRP.
Tried to upload TWRP (I think I found 6 different files) using different applications from the original Android system - Failed. ie. I used TWRP straight from the system, I also used Flashify. When I use this Flashify app I installed TWRP, but it didn't let my phone go into recovery mode, it just went straight to the download. For me it looks like there is something to not let flash/change this to TWRP.
I tried to upload TWRP via ODIN, it doesn't work, it crashes during installation with error messages.
I also tried to upload lineageos version lineageos.17.1.recovery.img via the normal recovery mode, but every time I try I get an error about the signature not matching.
I tried to upload the software by ADB, I have had connection, I was able to see the phone, but I can only use adb sideload recover.img command and although I tried different images and .zip files, unfortunately nothing works. I think I also get an error that the signature does not match.
Can I ask you for some hints, maybe some instructions that will really work. Many instructions were based on specific versions of the bootloader, is what I called the modem above maybe I named this wrong and this is the bootloader version? If so, does anyone know about the instructions for this version of the bootloader? It seems to me after my problems that it is strangely blocked. Maybe someone knows how to make it work. I would like to change the software to change the system language to Polish. Unfortunately, the apps: MoreLocale2 and Language Enabler and probably about 4 others from the play store are not working.
Of course, the phone is rooted with Kingoroot, the applications detect that there is root, after all, after selecting the Polish language, it does not work in the system.
I would like to change Androind 5.x to LineageOS, because there you can do much more and it works better, more efficiently and saves battery. And I will be able to change language defenetly.
this is not the first time when I do that things. I have changed the regular S4 jfltexx many times, this is not the slightest problem for me.
Summarizing:
1. I would like to change the language to Polish, if it doesn't work or it won't be possible, it's a waste of time or something else
2. I would like to unlock the bootloader and upload TWRP, it can be CWM if anyone knows it will work and has an instruction that I can test
3. Then I would like to upload lineageos.
I'd appreciate any hints to test these things above.
On page:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81418691&postcount=29
I read that it will be possible to upload TWRP, but if it is a special version of TWRP prepared for this phone. Will someone be so nice and tell me if something like this exists and if so, where can I find such TWRP for uploading via ODIN.
Thank yo all for your time spending to read this.:good:
PS: Dear Moderators if this thread is not in proper place please correct this. Thank you.
Those instructions are for another bootloader. Your bootloader is locked, which is why TWRP won't install. There is no way to unlock it or downgrade. You also can't boot AOSP based ROM like Lineage OS. What you can do is root the phone and install touch wiz based ROM like Golden eye ROM by using the flash fire app if you're on lollipop or safe strap recovery if you're on kit kat.

Big Thank You for your suggestion and answer on my question.:good:
Right now I have Lolipop installed on the phone so related to this above I can only install something with touchwiz. Hope it will let me to change language to the Polish.
Would you be able to point me some links to instruction, please. I try to find this on forum but failed (getting ROM for nintendo). At least links to the software so I can try using flashfire app. The best it will be instruction, as I have situation in which when I use this app phone want boot after. Maybe it was related to the software, which I shouldn't use or maybe I do this in not proper way.
For everything what I get I'm saying thank you. :highfive:
No problem, I help when I can. The flash fire app you can get from the Google play store I believe, but your phone might need a specific version like the Verizon S4 does I don't know. The touch wiz ROMs are in this forum under Android development, go there and you should see ROMs like golden eye which is a touch wiz based ROM.
Here's a link that might help you, but the S4 is an old phone so it's hard to find links and guides that aren't buried deep in the forum posts.

Let me check this and back with the details what is working.
Alright man, good luck! I may not be able to help much further though, as I now have a Galaxy S10 and my S4 is just my storage phone, but I can try if it's something I know.
