UMI Super dead? - UMi Super Questions & Answers

I hope somebody can hel me...
I buy a UMI Super for a friend. After ~2 weeks it won't boot. Put the charger in, go sleep and next day just a black phone, even no LED. Switch charger, cable from Mi5, power button for 30 and 60, try to entfer fastboot mode and recovery... nothing happen :/
When I connect the phone with my PC (Linux) and type in lsusb I get this
MediaTek Inc. MT65xx Preloader
At the UMI Forum I find a lot of people with the same problem but no support and no solution.
I have no idea, what I can try. Any idea?
Regards

Same problem, I find no help

Me2 and support don't answer.

TUTORIAL - Installing CM13 on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition 'Kate'

I recently bought myself a Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition (Kate) for its ability to run an official build of CM13 and, importantly, because Kate offers Band 20 support - a major advantage for UK usage.
As you may realise, getting CM13 onto Kate is somewhat more complex than getting it running on Kenzo. This is due to both the bootloader not being able to be unlocked officially and also because the Radios in Kate are different to those in Kenzo.
After figuring everything out over the weekend, I managed to flash the Official Nightly CM13 onto my Kate device & everything ran perfectly!
I wrote up the process in my Blog in quite a bit of detail, so feel free to have a read if you wish to install CM13 on your Kate edition of the Redmi Note 3.
@mwarner mmm online you can find an version of CM13 for kate

My tutorial is very thorough - every step is taken into account, taking a phone as it would be out of the box running MIUI to having a fully working CM13 installed. If it wasn't complicated, I wouldn't have written a tutorial .
Thanks for the info though - the text and the ROM is all in Chinese but may be of use to someone.
Thank you for work. I will trying it till my kate comes. Doesn't band 20 and 8 work?

I don't believe is only in Chinese. Usually CM is multilanguage.

A very well written and comprehensive guide, thanks! I've been seeing so many support requests all over the place that i'm still a bit hesitant to flash CM13. Have you noticed /ANY/ issues with hardware support? Dual sim, cameras, FP-reader? Is there anything that works worse on CM than MIUI7 stable?
Thanks again for a good guide, subscribed to your blog too

The Special Edition (Kate) phone supports the following bands:
LTE B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20/28 ( 2100/1900/ 1800/ 1700/ 850/ 2600/ 900/ 800/ 700MHz)
Kenzo does not support Bands 2, 20 and 28.

I must admit that the Note 3 is not my main phone - a Xiaomi Mi Max contains my primary SIM at the moment - so I have not tested it as much as I would like.
At this point (only having had the phone on CM13 for a few days) I have experienced one bug where I used the fingerprint sensor to unlock & the device unlocked, but to a black screen. Turning the screen off with the power button and then unlocking again with the fingerprint resolved this. I have only seen this once, but I did see it.
Generally, everything seems to work well - performance is great (smoother than MIUI) and both cameras and the fingerprint sensor work as expected. I haven't tried Dual SIM, or indeed a MicroSD card in the device, so I can't comment on this.
The bottom line is that it is a little too early for me to say whether I would use CM13 on the Note 3 if it was my primary phone. A safer bet is to use MIUI and set the phone up to turn off some of the oddities of MIUI. I posted about how I set up my phone here:
http://mikestechlife.blogspot.com/2016/10/guide-to-setting-up-xiaomi-miui-phone.html
On my main Mi Max I use Xiaomi.eu weekly on MIUI 8 with it set up as outlined above. CM13 only has partial supported on the Mi Max, so I don't want to go down this route with my Max.
That's quite the tutorial! Lots of good information there.
1. Xiaomi only support bootloader unlocking on Chinese Developer firmwares. There is NO Chinese firmware available for Kate - only Global ROMs. It is therefore impossible to officially unlock a Kate phone.

Not true, at least in my experience. I've officially unlocked my Kate using global dev MIUI8 v6.10.13. Followed these steps.. This particular MIUI release comes with a setting in the dev menu to check for unlocked bootloader and other things.
Now, I'm hoping I wasn't an exception, and officially unlocking Kate has now become just as easy for everyone.
Also, there's a ROM that's quite CM13-like and officially supports Kate and its radio. I come from a 2013 Moto G running CM13 nightlies and I don't miss CM13 after using this for a few days in my Kate. The experience is almost the same, and at least on my Kate, everything's running fine.
Too bad that Xiaomi is playing part lottery when making the phone, seems they can't be bothered to update their sources for all the part providers they're using. I guess we can't complain much when a phone of this caliber is so affordable.
I noticed that Xiaomi.eu have produced a build for Kate this week:
https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-10-27.35843/
Cheers bud great tutorial.
I was using the latest Global Dev Rom and after the first boot loading TWRP it gave me a prompt for password. I could not access storage. Just fully wiped the device with TWRP/Advanced/Wipe Data and did the install. CM13 just booted on my device with a locked bootloader.
Biggie ups!
Does this work with cm 14 too?

There is a developer ROM for kate? Would this not work for official unlock?

Kate bootloader can be unlocked officially, I did it with mine on official global dev rom.

go to en.miui.com/unlock/ and apply to unlock
Use updater to flash global dev rom
Settings -> additional settings -> developer options
enable OEM unlocking
mi unlock status -> register phone
enable usb debugging (not sure if necessary)
reboot into fastboot mode
use mi unlock tool to unlock bootloader
last time i tried the "mi unlock status -> register phone" it faild (and i tried many times and did allot of restarts). i tried it on 6.10.13, what version did you use?
Thanks for the Tutorial. When i flashed the rom with Alka Recovery, i had the error message Encryption was interrupted and can't be completed. With the ZCX Recovery it starts normally.
Has anyone tried this with CM14 or a 7.0 rom?

Slim Profile Head Unit (Alps mid 1008l_emmc)

I can't find any info on these:
eBay link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-Android-5-1-Car-GPS-Navigation-Stereo-Radio-Player-WIFI-AM-FM-hands-free-Call-/382127607438?hash=item58f8948e8e:g:VTEAAOSwTf9ZQQLu
They are very slim and you can recess them all the way into your dash without having to cut up your dash kit to make the stereo fit through the opening.
It is amazing. I bought one simply because of this.
Model: Alps mid 1008l_emmc
Factory Settings Password: 44320
Unfortunately I can't seem to root it.
Also on mine at least, the touchscreen freezes upon waking up from standby.
Because of this I would love to be able to turn off standby mode, but there is no option.
It would be nice to know what options for modifications/tweaks/updates are possible for this unit. Here's some more info if that helps:
mcu is displayed as version 17.04.02_01_130
Also here is the build.prop if that helps in identifying what kind of hardware is in this thing. If others have ideas on ways to identify the hardware (mcu, etc) in this unit that does not involve opening the shell/case (though if I have to I will) I am willing to give it a try.
One Tough Unit to Root
6 months ago, I had Chinese Android Head Unit that was buggy to no end, so I returned it.
I saw this HU as I was looking for drone parts and decide to give it a try.
I've had success rooting every Android device I've owned since the Motorola A855 phone.
I tried every root apk out there, no luck.
Also worth noting, it's WiFi MAC changes every reboot, not good for MAC Whitelist filtering.
And the hardware MAC addy it claims to have comes up as Invalid address.
Hello everyone, it has given me great joy to check that car radio / gps starts to be commented and I hope that also studied its possibilities of ROOT and / or custom recovery, from that moment it will have an economic apparatus and very well mounted , agreed that it has some gaps as it is in the user manual instructions to bring out the "developer options" to mark the USB debugging.
Well, turning around I found an application (USB Debuging) that allows us to access it and mark the options of OEM Unlock and USB Debugging and hope that we start to find the right way.
Now let the cooks get into the game and let us have good news.
PD I attached my MTK_ProjectConfig.mk file from my device so that you can see the total of the original instructions so that you can get something clear from them.
Greetings.

Android Auto Le Pro 3 X720 doesn't work

Hello, I bought a Leeco Le Pro 3 X720, and I have a Hyundai car, so I tried to connect to my car to use Android Auto but it doesn't work, with the ROM stock EUI 5.9 only started to charge the cellphone, never started android auto when I connected in the car.
I searched in google and could to read that the ROM stock with MM it doesn't work with AA, so I installed Lineage OS 14.1 (Android 7.1.2), this ROM can initialize AA, but when sync it, after 5 minutes the screen is freeze, yesterday I installed AICP 12.1 with android 7.1.2 (aicp_zl1_n-12.1-NIGHTLY-20171017.zip), but I have the same issue.
I used the original leeco usb cable.
Anybody have the same issue? or anybody could fix this?
Do you know some ROM that supports AA? or some usb cable compatible?
Thank you in advance.
Sorry for my bad english.

No problem, I am still using stock Android 6.0, EUI 5.8.21s. FYI, I don't connect the cable, since my car is not compatible. Sorry to disappoint, but I use Android Auto using just the phone alone, attached to a phone mount. However, I am willing to test with a cable to verify that it works. My brother owns a 2017 compatible vehicle and I can let you know by Saturday afternoon EST.
Have you considered that your issue could be with the cable? I read that the Android Auto Team recommends several different types of cables to resolve similar issues. Such as, Anker USB-C to USB 3.0 Cable
Thank you for your response, yes I think that is the cable, actually I bought 2 cables (no Anker) but aren't working, today I will try with other cable to try fix this issue.
I'm waiting your comments.
Thank you.

Sorry for being late with getting back to you.
I tried using Android Auto with my Le Pro 3 x727 attaching it to my brothers 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. ( Also: I used a 3rd party high quality USB-c cable) and unfortunately it still did not work. However, we called the dealership and found that his Equinox will support Android Auto. But, it requires a dealer installed update ( go figure! ) Next, we were told that the update is simply updating their My-link software so it will support Android Auto.
Regarding your vehicle, I just read on the Hyundai' US website that Hyundai' also require software updates to support Android Auto...so maybe that is the resolution to solve your issue? On the other hand, If you have already updated your Hyundai software. Perhaps, you still need a better cable.
Good Luck!
Thank you very much for your response.
I will ask to Hyundai for the update the next week.
Other test that I did was change the USB cable to a Moto Z1 original cable, and Android auto worked better, sometimes I can use it at least 20 minutes, after that I have the same issue but it's an advance.
If you can do a new test with the update could be great, thank in advance for your time to response.
Other thing, my Hyundai car supports Android auto since I bought it, with my old phone (LG G2) works perfectly, that's why I think that is a issue with Le Pro 3, but an update could be help.

GT08 - Can I install apps on it?

Recently I've bought an GT08 SmartWatch via aliexpress. I have inserted an SD Card into it but it seems like I cannot install any apps (.vxp) what so ever.
Is it possible to install apps on GT08? Should I update it's firmware? Or I've got scammed?

Pls take a look to howto install apps with adb.

Please also note the Android version on the smartwatch. Hope its not too old.
