Anyone else ditching Note 7 this year and getting something else? Stigma too great? - T-Mobile Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Just curious how many are ditching the Note 7 this year due to stigma for it even if it is revised and released again in the US soon. Is the stigma too great? Are you switching to Edge or v20? Also would the Edge be a big down grade? Is it a good idea maybe to go to the edge and then wait for S8 edge or Note next year? IS this years toast?

Switched to the Edge and waiting until next year.

I am going to do the full refund and hold tight for a bit. The Note 7 isn't wowing me like I hoped it would over my Note 5. I don't use the Iris scanner and don't really use the edge features. I would prefer a flat screen over the edge but this edge setup is better than the S7 edge I tried before. I am going back to my Note 5 for now and wait to see how the V20 and Google phones turn out. There is a chance I will come back to the Note 7 but between the Battery issue and the far to many real world reports of the glass scratching so easy, I am a bit put off on the Note 7 now.
I wish T-Mobile offered more options than they do. The only real options right now from T-Mobile is the S7's or the IPhone. Not saying they would be my chose but what about ASUS, Sony, OnePlus...

Love this device, not switching to another!

I am surprised by the lack of Note Edge popularity so far

Using the XDA forums, discussions, participants, and ROM/custom development as a barometer, I am surprised by the underwhelming Edge popularity.
When compared to the historical Note 2, 3, and 4 (and considering the pace of dedicated forums, ROM development, and discussion), the Edge has not nearly tracked the pace. Since release, we have had relatively little discussion, no carrier-specific forums (yet), and very few ROMs to speak of.
I would have thought that all the XDA geeks would have flocked to the Edge as opposed to Note 4. I guess I was wrong. Still, I do not understand why more people have not adopted the Edge.
Edit: At least we got root quickly. For that, I am very thankful.
It's not even released yet in most countries so that's why? The UK version I've ordered direct from Samsung UK doesn't get dispatched until 18th Dec. Online stores reckon early Jan. And then there is the price.
note edge is 399$ on 2 years contract. plus taxes, plus 40$ upgrade fee on att. that's 520$ on a phone with contract ! eBay is selling the edge over 900$. you can get a note4 less than 600$ on eBay.

But same price as Iphone 6 Plus 64gb once you add an extra 32gb Micro SD. The Edge is not that much more expensive than other large screen devices except the LG G3 which is less than £300 Sim Free on the UK.

The comparison is to the "pace" set by previous responses to the Note platform. Any other comparison isn't applicable. The Edge is more expensive and in limited supply, so the response is slow.
If we want more support, why not start a fund to pay for it? May work depending on how many people are going to donate.
Niche device, look at how the Note 1 went, or the LG G Flex. Both started slow, both eventually had a good following though.

What carrier are you with. Dwitherell has the Tmobile edge
Sent from my SM-N915T using Tapatalk
I can assure you guys that a very impressive group of former Note 3 devs have recently confirmed (this past week) that they plan to continue their work on the Edge, and most either already have or have ordered the device
As deez mentioned, @dwitherell, creator of Tweaked ROM is among them. That news alone was enough to confirm where I'll be headed upgrade-wise, as it has with a significant percent of (xda member) Note 3 users, who like me, are incredibly glad that they didn't jump the gun and upgrade to a regular 4!
I'm personally really glad that these guys have chosen the Edge as their next phone to tear apart, since it not only seems to really need it, but it seems to have far more potential than any other current device and I'm predicting that it will thoroughly kick ass once it's unlocked!
So hopefully that gives you something to look forward to; the Note Edge and subsequently the activity / development going on in its forum will soon be making a huge jump, as will the desirability of the device (at least among xda members)! I guess if I had already upgraded to the Edge, I'd just be trying to get a kick out of Samsung's implementation of a "killer feature", while waiting for the device to be thoroughly "fixed" in the somewhat near future. Looking forward to keeping an eye on the "dev migration" and picking up my own Edge soon! :good:
I know for a fact that a few of the great devs who shall remain anonymous are heading towards the Edge. As it's already been said, with the 4 being cheaper and the Edge not being available, they are working on Note 4 stuff right now. Which of course can be ported to the Edge. Keep the faith...

I look forward to seeing what developers can do with the Edge. I can't really think of too much that I would actually use since I never rommed my Note 3. I simply used root to get Nandroids and that was it.
The Edge panel has let me drop down from 4 home screens to now just using one. With the included recents panel, the app Screen Off and Lock, and MacroDroid running I don't use the buttons on my phone except to wake the screen.

I've been saying that over and over but people saying... "it's expensive" it's not. but it has been selling out on sprint
When the edge came out I had to travel 45 minutes from my house to get it. You can check the forum on xda on the 14th of november to see how frustrated some of us were with trying to order it or get it on the launch date. Add to that samsung is really doing a poor job, marketing wise, to establish the edge brand. They are killing it with the 4. Don't get me started on the price. Lastly, I really hate that samsung touted this as a "concept" phone, not the next evolution of the cell phone or something more permanent. The phone has been out for almost two months and there has been virtually no movement on apps that incorporate the panel nor has samsung added anything significant. That is an unnecessary self inflicted wound to tje brand. Conversely, I don't need to be baited in to like the phone. I a a true believer. This phone is awsome. If I could get a few more panels, like a better notification one for texts, calls and emails and a multi-window panel I would be on cloud 9.
Hopefully, all the post in here indicate that the developers are on their way. If they arrive that is fine if not I am cool either way. Just want sammy to do their part and not abandon this great device and get us some more functional panels in the meantime.

I agree, it's $5 than a 4 if you do TMO's Jump deal. Only thing I can see is the lack of availability, I couldn't find one till about a week after release and still had to drive 45 min... but they are becoming more popular and every person that has seen mine has claimed they were going out that weekend. Do you think its actually worth upgrading from a S6 Edge to a S7 Edge?

I can't get myself to upgrade from my s6 edge to an s7 edge! Yeah it's waterproof. Bit faster. Hardware's better. But, I really don't think many people including myself will be happy spending that much cash to get a phone that's almost identical in looks. To be honest I couldn't believe Samsung even called it the S7 Edge. Should've been more like an Apple iphone6 to iphone6s. Seeing as it's basically only small upgrade should use really sell that to people as a totally upgraded new design phone when the simple fact is its just an upgraded S6 Edge...

Well, superior processor, weather resistance, expandable storage and latest android. Add latest gorilla glass and bigger battery (I think).
Quite some upgrades over an already good phone don't you think?
If none of the above is important to you ... don't upgrade.
Simples
Would I personally do it? Weather proof is important to me, I do road cycling. - Otherwise probably not. I think last year's processors are as powerful as anyone need them to be.
Rarely do I think a single generation change is worth paying for an upgrade. But ask yourself this;
What do I find limiting about my S6? Does the S7 fix that? Does the limitation bother me enough to spend several hundred dollars to alleviate it?
If the answer to both questions is yes, then upgrade. If not, don't.
The screen is better in S7 especially the white color

I upgraded from a GS6E and I'm really happy I did it. In fact, I still have both phones although I'm using the GS7E and the Nexus 5X as my daily drivers.
I like it better for the larger battery, microSD support, water resistance, and better camera. Speedwise, I don't notice a difference probably b/c I don't game on phones.
Sent from my SM-G935U using Tapatalk
I went from the S6 to the S7 because I work outdoors in Vancouver which rains a lot. I absolutely needed to take advantage of the water resistance before it cost me another phone. The return of the SD card is also a major deal to me personally. 5 months after spending 1k on a new phone I migrated to the S7E because of how amazing it is. My wife owned the S6E so I can tell you that there is a big difference between the two.
I wouldnt upgrade. My s6 edge got a broken screen. I used it for a few months without fixing it. One day i came home and saw a surprise package from my wife, with my name on it. I open it. It was s7 edge injustice edition sd 820 hk variant. No good root out yet. Tears of joy cuz new phone. Tears of pain because it cost too much, which i would never pay for.

Who's gonna keep using their Note 7?

There's absolutely no other phone I want, so I'm seriously considering not turning my phone in and continuing to use it. Plus I'm not at all happy with the compensation of a $25 credit. What I would deem fair is allowing me to "use" an S7e or ANY phone I want until a suitable replacement phone (S8, Note 8, etc.) becomes available and then turning in the loaner for the better phone. Anyway... anyone else going to chance it and just keep on using their Note 7?

I really like the phone. But, it's not worth risking my life and property for.
Just got my replacement in the mail last Thursday. It's been working just fine. Doesn't get hot or anything with heavy use. I'm going to continue using my revised note 7 till they try to force me to deactivate it
Ive had a rough time getting a replacement, so ive been looking into the pixel xl or just snag a nexus 6p for cheap. Its not worth risking to me.

I'm going to keep mine because I have not had any issues and do not want to get a new phone. This mostly due to how terrible the corporate sprint store near me is. I had to go into the store 3 times to get a replacement.
The only problem (aside from the whole catching fire thing) is I doubt they'll be working on any software updates for the Note 7 now. No Nougut for the Note 7?

I really wish there were better options out right now I would switch in a heart beat. Unfortunately there's nothing even close out right now or coming out in the next few weeks. If they force us to move on I'll probably go with the v20 or 7 edge.

I upgraded from a Note 3 to a Note 7. I need a Note with Micro SD card slot. I went on Ebay today and bought the best Note 4 I saw as a backup plan. I still have the original recalled Note 7 and plan to keep it for now. But like kstephens98 said, it won't get updates. And who's gonna wanna continue development here? I think I'll probably use the Note 4 until (hopefully) the Note 8 comes out. I just hope I can still get a full refund if it comes down to that. There's no other new phone out there that I would be interested in.
there is no competition.
i'll hold it until they have another fixed batch or until the Note 8.

As much as this comment exactly describes how i feel i have to return the phone. This is the hsrdest decision. Even harder than returning the first one cause last tine i knew it would be conning back. But it is now giing to be gone forever.
The main reasons are these
1) the phone cost $900. If i keep it i cannot get a new one probably ever.
2) development Will be non existent.
3) no resale value at all in the rare chance i could afford another one.
4) my husband will refuse to let me keep it even if i wanted to ignore 1-3
I was hoping for a new batch but from what I've read Samsung has officially dropped the note 7 all together.
Out the money for my case and have a gear vr which i cannot use. THIS SUCKS

Just an FYI just got this tidbit from Sprint Chat:
"Daniel M:*You can check the availability of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 with our Telesales team as the device is not available online and we are trying to get it back soon but any date is not confirmed."
was also confirmed by Telesales
If they get the note 5 back, I'd take that. I honestly don't think PHYSICALLY the note 7 is that different. On top of that, the Note 5 is honestly the best alternative. As sad as it is to say that a year old phone is the best alternative...it really, honestly is. I can deal without the USB-C, I can even deal with the lack of SD Card support(I haven't used an SD card in ages as long as there's a 64gb version). The water resistance would be nice...but after owning the S5, it was more.....convenient than anything. The "IF it drops in the water I don't have anything the worry about" feeling. I took underwater pics once just to say I did and could but....not like I'm gonna go swimming with that bad boy in my pocket lol.
Lastly, and most importantly for me, is the S-Pen. Unlike a good number of people, I actually use my....a lot. Which I find either people use it A LOT, or never lol. Anyway, if/when the Note 5 becomes available again, then I'll go back to that. But this Note 7 really was the PERFECT phone.
Water Resistance
S-Pen
AMAZIN screen to body ratio
iris scanner is way more functional than I anticipated
just the right about of edge on the screen
THE SCREEN PERIOD lol
the camera was near flawless in my opinion
everything about this phone......
If only Samsung wouldn't have rushed things. I think this phone would have beat out the iPhone anyway. Thing is, people who buy iPhones, buy iPhones. Getting them to switch is difficult because they're usually invested in apple products. iPads, Macbooks, lightning adapters, etc. People who buy Android phones are usually invested in it. Samsung people usually have Samsung Tablets, enjoy the gmail/google apps integration, enjoy the mass amount of free apps from the app store lol. This makes me want to cry lol
Went ahead and exchanged mine for an S7 Edge. It's a very nice phone too. Plus I didn't use the S-Pen like I thought I would.
In addition, Got two free gifts for my first note and my replacement note and now I've been approved for my S7 Edge. Three gifts, one purchase.
Anyone thinking of trading it in and doing the gift thing, sorry, it ended Oct 9th I believe.

Would go without phone/phone payments and a Note 4 I pick up used for now if it meant using my upgrade later.

I am going to keep using mine. There is NOTHING else that is even close to the Note 7. All of us who own the phone knows it is the sweetest one out there. I had considered the LG V20, but I would feel as though I had an inferior phone; judging by the reviews.
The reason I am here today is to root the phone to prevent Samsung from sending some type of kill update.

my sentiments exactly.
Just got the S7 Edge yesterday. This will take some getting use to. As some have stated the S7E is supposed to be snappier than the Note 7. I'm not seeing that at all. I realize I'll need to give the device a few days to settle.
I'll update this as I use the device more... I know it's minimal but this thing feels so tiny in my hands.
Id be happy if I could get the Note 7 S-Browser on the S7 Edge.. I always wanted a "open in background" option. Nice 2 month tease
I'm hoping that Samsung sticks with the Note series of phones. I didn't realize how much I used the S-pen at work.

What will be your next phone?

With our Note 4 being long in the tooth and less developer support available. What will be your next phone of choice? I am leaning towards the new Note 8, not from a developer's view, but pure performance, if the specs are to be believed.
Difficult to say. I like the note series a lot, but without a removable battery I'm not sold on it.

Which high phone still has a removable battery?
LG V20. Let's see what the V30 is all about.
I'm a little tired of not being able to run AOSP roms without having rando issues BT, WIFI "Samsung phones are not AOSP friendly since I've been on the S3." I think I'm waiting out for the pixel 2.
Im going to have my Note 4 for backup but im going to my non rootable Note 8
unless the Google Pixel 2 is great because root is life but removable batteries can be worked around
I have to stick with a Note. I'm hoping the Exynos Note 8 can be rooted. But, will an Exynos phone even work with Sprint's CDMA? I've always had Sprint phones in the past. When I had to turn in my Note 7 I was actually happy to go back to my Note 4, so I might just hold onto it for a while longer. I'm hoping that Samsung will come out with a Note Classic at some point with today's specs, fingers crossed!

With current choices, I'm waiting on Axon 8 on a non CDMA carrier. If Note 5 had more internal memory I might have considered it... last year.
Not holding my breath for a rootable Note 8 in my price range. Samsung ruined it for me with locked bootloaders with no unlock support, bent-fragile-expensive screens and carriers dropping subsidized phone contracts. The Note was a phone I could hold for duration of contract; I might have stayed with Sprint if those hadn't happened but Sprint and Note 4 EOL will end my tenure with both brands and CDMA. No more is my goal unless much changes on all fronts.
Phone UPGRADE will likely mean breaking all former trends. Good run on phones but data was always slow and many considered the Samsung phones as toys; neither weren't serious with data connection. That's the way I often feel while traveling and outdoors on vacation.

I had picked up Note 4 after the Note 5 hit the market. With all of discounts being offered then, I actually was paid a $1 to upgrade from my Note II. So I got two, one for me and one for my wife. I'm sure such deals are a thing of the past.
I was thinking about getting the international version of the Note 8, which may be customized.
Note 8. My Note 4 is dying (emmc errors, freezes, reboots), so I have to replace it with something soon. I'm an S Pen addict, so that doesn't leave me with much choice.
Android has lost its luster for me. Yeah, I can choose launchers, etc., but that novelty has worn off. So if I could wean myself off the S Pen, I might even consider an iPhone.

Goodluck running AOSP roms on any samgung device without having some sort of issue. Had APN issues since my S3.
I will continue using my Note 4 until it's guts fall to the floor at which point I will duct tape them back in for one more round. Too many features I love are being removed from ALL the new phones....

I'm having a hard time searching for another phone while my note 4 is still kicking. It's a tie between essential phone and pixel 2. Only time will tell. I want to stay on Sprint and have a phone with a large xda following.
I had a note 4 then it crapped out about a year ago. Had the choice between a note 5 and the S7. Went with the S7 because the note 5 wasn't getting very good reviews then. This was about two weeks before the note 7 release (dodged a bullet?). The S7 is solid but too small. I found a note 4 online for $80, rooted it and am very happy with it. Been looking at the S8 but it's a bit pricey. Will look at the note 8 if it ever comes out but who knows? I like the note 4 so much I went back to it.

Sooo after seeing the Note 8 now
I find myself saying im just going to keep my note 4 until im happy with others phones and getting root lol
plus i removed insurance on my phone because its 13 dollars cheaper and if my phone breaks a new note 4 is like 150 or less on ebay or swappa.
Its like how do you give up free hotspot with many custom options and removable battery
for a high phone thats gonna add much more to your bill total anddd lose root and restricted hotspot for some and no removable battery
I have a new V20 in case my note 4 craps out. No chance I'm buying a phone that is not rootable. I don't care how nice and polished the Note 8 is. Once you start browsing the internet or youtube without an ad blocker its like going back to the dial-up days. Eff that. I don't need a polished turd such as the Note 8 with all "edge" and "bixby" nonsense. The Note 4 is still a very capable phone that has a lot more features than the 8.
