Unable to connect to the camera because it is being used by other apps or disabled... - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Unable to connect to the camera because it is being used by other apps or disabled due to security policies.
This is the error message I keep getting whenever launching my camera. I've tried factory reset but the error still persists. I can try and get a logcat but I'll be completely honest I've never done my own logcat before.
Any help appreciated, thanks for looking.

Does your camera work after a fresh reboot? Does it stop working after awhile? There might be a runaway app hogging your camera. Usual culprits are camera apps, face unlock and custom lockscreens.

Rebooting doesn't help. The front camera works fine until I switch over to the rear camera.

Did you change anything in the build.prop?

I added the line to add navigation bar to phone (it doesn't work)

From my experience so far with the Axon 7, tweaking certain things on the build.prop crashes the phone. When I tried to make enable multi-windows by changing the "user" to "userdebug", it caused the same problem you were having. Nothing fixed it; not restarting, system wipe, changing the build.prop to its original setting... nothing. I simple had to restore my phone from a previous backup. Hopefully, you did do a clean backup of your device. If not, then that is a common rookie mistake. Sorry to break this down to you. I hope that this was helpful.

Only time I've seen this error, is when I downloaded a different camera from the Playstore and tried to open it the same time my stock camera was running in the background.
You don't have any other camera's installed or have an app that is open that uses your camera (like Snapchat, ect..)?
I'm sure you don't, but just throwing something out to try/check.

Just restore system from previous backup like B4oE said, if you did not make a backup just download one of the twrp backups uploaded by the users around the forums. make sure to download the correct version either b20 or b20_boot. what version are you on? did you root using tenfar + locked bootloader?

I just ended up deleting the stupid camera and installing OPEN CAMERA from play store and it works 10000 times better.

[Q] Deleted Bloatware.... I thought

First post on XDA so might as well be a noob mistake and cry for help. :crying:
So after rooting my GS4 I went through on Titanium Backup and deleted all the AT&T apps. Was careful not to delete anything that was related to Samsung. Shortly after went to use S Voice and now S Voice crashes saying "Unfortunately, S Voice has stopped".
I remembered deleting an app by the name of "attupdate..." and now when I go into settings to About device > Software update nothing happens when I click on that.
I made no back ups and can't find any option in Titanium to restore the file. Not sure what to do at this point.

I believe you are out of luck until we get a usable stock image. Unless someone can backup that particular app and send it to you for restore. I am not totally sure.

Let me know what apps you need and I'll make backups and email them to you to restore from TiBu... Too late now, but this is why I always freeze apps, then make sure the phone still works right before uninstalling them.

Lesson learned, OP and others? Before deleting anything, FREEZE them, especially when we don't have a way to go back just yet! With a phone this new and no ROMs available, I haven't deleted a single thing off of it, all my bloat has just been frozen

From what I have found online they havent released the firmware for the I337 GS4 yet only the I9500. I have it plugged into my computer and Kies sees it but doesnt let me do anything the firmware. It says "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies".
In recovery mode I get an error when I try to clear the cache partition. Though it does let me do the factory reset. When first booting after a factory reset I get an error saying Text-to-speech as stopped. Then after I name the device and check which options I want on it comes back saying Settings has stopped and kicks me back to naming the device. I have tried turning off all options (S Beam, etc.) and still the same.
Had I not done the factory reset I would still have a working device just without S Voice. Freezing vs uninstalling is for sure the better way to go about things, I just got ahead of myself. Now I have a cutting edge desk ornament until I can find a fix.

Yes that is exactly the idea......hope this helps.........
Sorry skimmed past our first question , you can freeze them by applying root , then installing an app called titanium back up from the market , I use the paid version , Pro. You can also disable apps without root by going to application manager ,all , then disable what apps you want to freeze , do a couple at a time and make sure apps you disable don't disrupt your phone then a few more and so on and so on..........

What he said.... but if you don't know what you're doing with this, chances are you SHOULDN'T be doing them! Just follow those steps and you shouldn't screw anything up, but if you get stuck, ask for help on the forum please and not in PM to just one person BEFORE going through with the step you are unsure of! We all weren't born with this knowledge and we're glad to help, but it doesn't help when you go and screw with stuff you shouldn't be just because the opportunity is there - if you don't know what you're doing, don't do it!
For those who don't know...You can also go to settings, more, application manager, all, touch the app you want to "freeze" and touch disable at top right...without root.

Doubt it has to do with rooting. Basically, you are just giving root permissions for access to the system partition and other things normally off limits.
Are you able to actually download apps at this time or just not upgrade them? Please provide as much info as possible about what you can not do.

I couldn't download or update. So I reinstalled a backup and everything was back to normal. I have re-done the wifi hack. I then have done another backup in thwrp. I am about to attemp to do the camera sound on/off and take photos while on phone.
questionable things I did. Downloaded 4 versions of flash and tried installing. Downloaded root software and cleared all cache, think that was after issue started. Removed apps after giving superuser permission. Also unlocked developer mode. Im just listing everything in case I did something wrong. To be honest I cant see anything I did that would cause that issue.
Ok. Found the issue I think. I did three things. 1. Camera shutter sound from false to true. This added the slide button for on/off sound in settings. 2. Camera working during phone call from false to true. 3. Changed mega pixel to 13mp. After doing these there things I then went to make a backup and backup failed cause not enough space. I followed the steps on tips and tricks in the forums. I am very confused how and why this took up more space.

Is there a way to get the security updates and have stock rooted?

I would like to have my phone rooted but i like stock and i like having the security updates. is there a way to have my cake and eat it too?
Short answer is No.
This is my first android phone which I didn't root it and see no reason to do so.

First and main reason for my to root, Titanium Backup.
then i guess if i was going to distill this down to what im really trying to get at is, i passionatly hate ads, they completely ruin my mobile experience and i just wanted to filter them out. is there a non-rooted way to do this?
also i like changing the hostname of my device so i can identify it on networks easily...

I was thinking this too but apparently titanium backup can create flashable zips so in theory you can do that, flash the zip to restore apps and never need root access in the actual app.
Can you unlock bootloader, boot twrp (not flash, just fastboot boot twrp.img), create the hosts symlink with adb shell, reboot, then change the hosts source in adaway settings?

Are you sure about that? I am rooted with adaway and have no problems with mms. I don't see how adaway could possibly affect your ability to sent SMS or mms.
As far as the security updates are concerned, download the image and manually flash system, vendor, and bootloader for each update. I am on the November update as a result

I remember reading that chainfire was working on a beta root method that does not modify the system partition. In this case, you may be able to unlock bootloader --> flash twrp --> flash root --> flash stock recovery and be able to accept security updates? Just a thought. My plan is to flash stock recovery once security patches are released, then reroot if necessary.
Honestly, I really didnt want to root this phone but two things changed my mind: CF Lumen and the potential to set up one handed mode using xposed modules.

Just flashed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/wip-android-6-0-marshmellow-t3219344 which is the systemless root, works with Android Pay so I dont see why it wouldn't work with a system update as long as you have the stock recovery.

Regardless, I like having my device weekly backed up as well. Can never be too careful.

Yes it was definitely Ad-Away. Tried using different messaging apps. Once I removed Ad-Away it MMS worked again. Something about it was blocking the MMS portion, regular SMS was fine.

Interesting. What carrier do you use? The only thing I can think of is that somehow your mms data is coming from a domain that is being blocked by adaway (which would be very strange...) If that is the case then you could whitelist the domain in adaway once you determined what domain it is.
OP: One thing to keep in mind with systemless root, it does not work with all programs because some programs have hardcoded paths to SU. This is why I have stuck to traditional root for the highest compatability. The tradeoff being that I have to manually flash the security updates. Not a huge deal as it takes five minutes out of my life and data is preserved.

Rooting My Nexus 6p

Hello,
I really want to root my Nexus 6p but I have a few questions.
1) How can I make it so that if it goes wrong I can get my phone back it's original state with all my stuff there. (Backing up basically)
2) How can I make it so that when I have rooted my phone keeps the same layout (I use Nova) and all my apps, games contacts etc. are reinstalled
3) How do I root my Nexus 6p, 6.0.1. I was going to use this gadget hacks tutorial but I didn't know if it would work?
Thanks alot,

It's all in my guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928
You first need to unlock your bootloader, then install TWRP recovery, then you can flash SuperSU to gain root. To answer your questions:
1. You can't. Unlocking the bootloader wipes the device, so you need to backup your photos, videos, etc to your PC first. You can't backup your apps and settings. This is why it's a good idea to unlock your bootloader when you first get the device.
2. You'll have to download your apps again though. Your contacts should be synced with your Google account so they'll just sync back to the device.
3. See my guide linked above. It's very detailed and has everything you need to know.
Will android not automatically download apps when I log in?

If I were to root then flash a custom ROM, do I still need to flash different radios and firmwares when newer ones come out? Or does that come with the ROM upon flashing?

ROMs don't include radios or other firmware components like the bootloader or vendor. When I ROM gets updated and is based on a newer build you'd need to flash those yourself with fastboot (the vendor can be flashed with TWRP though).

Rooted phone, accidentally uninstalled Play Store, and now stuck without it

Hi.
Yesterday, I unlocked the bootloader and rooted my OnePlus 6T. I accidentally completely uninstalled Google Play. I still have the GP Services, Music, and Video on my phone, but Google Play has been completely removed. I've tried reinstalling from multiple APK sources, but every time I try to install anything, it crashes. It does not ask for permissions either. I've tried wiping my phone multiple times, but it still hasn't appeared.
Any solutions would be greatly appreciated. I could try reinstalling the OS through the same tool I used to convert it from the T-Mobile version to international. If that is the solution, then I'd appreciate if you let me know.
Thanks so much.
Have you tried the Msmtool? https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/tool-6t-msmdownloadtool-v4-0-oos-9-0-5-t3867448
Since you already said you wiped multiple times, this tool should bring your phone back to fresh out of the box factory reset. You'll have to unlock the bootloader and root again if you go this route.
How did you remove the play store anyway? Some kind of app?

Hope it works for you , I believe it should be the easiest method. I think maybe using the same root explorer you can replace the play store, but there's some extra steps like settings permissions that I'm not all that familiar with so I'd just use the Msmtool if I was in your situation.

Maybe try fastbooting the factory images before msm tool? Just thinking that way you could save your data from being wiped.

Maybe try fastbooting the factory images before msm tool? Just thinking that way you could save your data from being wiped.

I did the same thing and was trying to restore it with TiBackup. But it did not do anything and I tried restarting, and it went to boot loader. Anyway I can save my app data?
