Do you recommend buying pro 5 now? - Meizu Pro 5 Questions & Answers

Hello, since a lot of you have had experience with the pro 5 i wanna make you the question: is a good idea to buy it now? would be my first meizu and it costs 417 bucks for the 4gb ram 64gb rom on ibuygou.com i found it trustful and they assure me they will ship it with original rom in factory sealed box without being opened for any reason.
Based on your experience, did you regret buying it for some reason? (for example, i have read about some problems with home button)
My other options are:
xiaomi mi max 4gb ram, 128 gb rom
xiaomi redmi pro 4GB ram, 128 rom and helio X25.
I'm not interested in unlock the bootloader or flash roms so that's not an issue for me. the battery life, memory expansion, good camera, fast chipset and big screen are important to me and that's why i didn't consider other options like OP3 or MI5.
I would like to buy it because it practically doesn't have any weakness on paper, but first i will listen to your suggestions.

Hello,
Yes I think the Meizu PRO 5 continues to be a very good choice. Its assembly is perfect, mTouch is very fast, camera delivers very good shots (manly when light's good), software is very smooth, and it's beautiful...
I tried a Samsung Galaxy S7 (normal) for 4 days, and I come back to the PRO 5 (better battery life, better audio, bigger screen).

No I don't.
When you start (first use or clean install) you'll probably notice that notifications come with a delay. This is because software is made to get the best battery life. But you can "repair" it easly (it's only a parameter to change).
Otherwise the software is very accurate. Incredible smooth (thanks to the Exynos and Full HD screen). Initially I installed a third launcher (Google Launcher) but actually (some months ago to be honest) I run on Flyme OS launcher (no applications drawer). But if you prefer a drawer, you can always install a launcher.
Regarding to the MEIZU apps (clock, calendar, notes, calculator, etc.) I prefer use Google Apps (you can find all of them on Play Store). So I can't evaluate Meizu apps.
I use bluetooth (in my car) and there's nothing to say about. Works nice.
What I'm waiting is a firmware on Android Marshmallow (maybe Nougat...).
Here's my experience, the PRO5 is my 2nd meizu phone (the first was the M2 Note), I'm very happy with it.

Thank you for answering, i hope they release marshmallow or nougat frimware!! this is still a recent phone.

For those willing to unlock it:
I would avoid any Meizu product! There are so many other alternatives out there. Although it has a good hardware, they are really dicks when it comes to software. If you choose to update you ROM with an alternative one and it fails, or if in any other way your recovery fails on you... Your phone is bricked! And forget any kind of support from Meizu.
There are many other alternatives out there where the company allows you to unlock the bootloader and do whatever you want. And in case something fails, there is a way to fix things yourself. But not with Meizu.
Stay away from Meizu products!

I'm not agree.
I unlocked my bootloader, I made many mistakes (lost recovery, for example) and every time I managed to get it back, without problems !
Your chances of bricking a Meizu are the same that for another brand (Samsung, Xiaomi, etc.).

Then you can help the people that have lost their recovery and left with a locked bootloader - I am also one of them. And yet there is no way to unlock the bootloader again over fastboot or anything. For many other brands, you have Odin, for example, or unlocking the bootloader is much easier, like with Sony, also now with ZTE. At least, these are the ones I am aware of.

Great phone, can recommend
I have a Pro 5 which I've owned for around 9 months now. The phone is really good. Too notch hardware, great build quallity, an all purpose hardware button with a decent fingerprint scanner and excellent battery life (Can play Pokemon GO for around 3-3.5 hours on a charge). I've had surprisingly good experience with Flyme 5, it's very stable and performed well through out all of my time with it (Unlike some Samsung and LG phones that chug after a month). The stock apps and launcher seem to work very well for me, the only one I replaced was the Keyboard. Can't comment too much about the camera, since I barely use it, but from what I saw it takes reasonable shots. The only big downsides are that the fingerprint scanner isn't always reliable (has times where it can't recognize my finger at all) and that the phone gets very hot while charging or playing heavy games (especially when I do both, and the phone throttles, making the experience unplayable) - maybe it's just what you get with a 30+C summer and an aluminium body. I also had a wierd issue with the button, where it got "stuck" a bit.

Maybe it's too late and you already bought it.
I DON'T recomend this device for everyone.
The software (Flyme) is a good piece of crap. They say it will never be a Marsmallow update, they'll jump right to Nougat (in 1 or 2 years probably), and I quite sure that Pro 5 will never get this update.
Flyme has a lot a bugs, some of them quite annoying (RIL appear to be unstable, you lose 3G connectivity lots of times, I have used LTE successfully a couple of times...). It doesn't support Viper4Android.
The chinese version of OS it really restrictive. So I had lots of problem receiving notifications. Global version works taking proper measures.
When you are doing not buggy things it is very fluid, though.
Getting a custom recovery is a pain in the neck.
Currently there are no good alternatives to Flyme. I'm waiting for CM13 Resurrection Remix to be daily usable.
I don't know if it is better on Ubuntu. But I don't think that Ubuntu is good for everyday use.
The hardware is amazing.
The combination of DAC and Amp is really good. Thought I miss V4A.
The camera is good, I say can't say more cause I don't know much about photography.
The processor is more powerful than I need.
3 GB of RAM are more than enough for me.
I love the 5,7" AMOLED screen.
The battery duration is acceptable. You have a full day of use in normal conditions.
The fast charge is very good. But it's incompatible with other brands fast charge. So forget about fast charging in your car.
I think it's all.
I'm quite happy with my phone. But I'm audiophile, I use it mainly for playing music.
So, given that, I think you can decide if it's worth paying that much for this thing or not.
I hope this may help you.
Also, I'm starting to hate Meizu. They do awful things with Flyme.
English is not my mother tongue, clearly, so, sorry.

No more Meizu phones for me. Fortunately LG has just released the V20 to make us the audiophiles happy. Though I quite liked the SQ of Pro5, the stupid apple-wanna-be mentality of Meizu (including the bootloader lock) makes this phone a piece of crap. My bank account was locked because of the [email protected]!ty FlyMeOS, as I was not receiving my online banking codes via SMS - they were lost in space! A phone SW that cannot receive SMSs in year 2016 is simply not acceptable.
I will grab a V20 and stick with LG from now on (yes, I dislike Samsung very much).
Cheers

I agree.
Samsung sucks.
Meizu sucks.
And, in my opinion, the fact that you have to buy high end phone just to have a good (or very good) audio quality also sucks.
I don't need 3 cameras on my phone. I don't need more than 2 Gb of RAM. I don't need super powerful CPU and GPU. I just want a device to receive messages, watch some YouTube every now and then, surf the internet and listen to lots of lossless music.
Fortunately with each passing year phones have better and better audio hardware.

Completely off-topic now.
I seen it before. It's really expensive. And when the say LOUD many times as a pro, you know that's not for audiophiles...

Mmm... The fingerprint sensor is a feature that I really like.
I read also that RIL is unstable, but that also happens on Flyme, so I'll give a try.
How's the battery life?

same as flyme, maybe a little bit better

i bought a pro 5, for 160 euros (got lucky yes) for about 3 weeks ago (chinese version, 4gb ram, 64gb rom)
i had a meixu mx4 and the pro version too... great phones (display, design, quality, camera, sound, etc) , bad flyme... but i was able to get notifications...
first thing i did with pro 5 was A to I and install last 5.1.11.0G. even with permissions and changes in security i wasnt able to receive notifications, reason : i have no idea
so i unlock bootloader, instal twrp, and tryed all custom roms from faust93 that MAKE A GREAT JOB. however this 3 roms, have some bugs, wifi/4g problems, battery drain.
i read what juandvila said in meizufans forum and i follow his guide and now i have all notifications working 100% perfect with all programs in last 5.1.11.0G
about 5.1.11.0G i have to say that is very fast, no lag, excelent battery time ( for me better than custom roms) , all works perfect wifi/4g, camera is better, all games and apps working 100% (in custom roms some apps and especially games have problems) maybe sound is better in faust93 roms but in flyme isnt bad at all and i will try too see if i can install some mod to improove sound
i installed nova launcher and i´m 100% happy with flyme because i have all notifications and all works perfect like it should work
about the phone build and design quality is impressive, screen is very good, peformance is top, audio is very good, camera is good, battery better than nexus 6p
i´m happy now with this phone especially at the low price i get it (bought it to some guy that buy a s7 and dont care about money)

using last flyme G for some days
it have some bugs
downloader folder in stupid flyme gallery is broken , but i remember this fom my meizu mx 4, stupid idiots from flyme.... but y can use quickpic gallery and it will work nice
only once my phone turn off by it self
notifications are working nice with pnfroot
but well, still good things, wifi/4g i very good
camera is very good
sound is not so good as faust93 roms, we need some sound mod for flyme, but still aceptable
battery is very good
but to be honest i said that i will never buy meizu again when i sold my mx4, i had another phones and i only buy pro 5 because it have very good hardware, flyme its a pure sh*t

Can i have One of your betterbatterystat for people who say good battery please ?

Xiaomi Mi-2 Review

Hello All -
I recently needed to find a new android phone for use on at&t network in the US - I was looking only at unlocked phones, focusing on quad core phones, preferably 2gb of Ram, and 32gb+ of onboard memory (or at least SD card expansion).
I mostly recently was on the HTC One X and briefly used the Nexus 4 - After some research I decided to give the Xiaomi Mi-2 a shot given its specs:
- 2GB of RAM
- a quad core CPU at 1.5Ghz
- a 2000mAh removable battery
- a 4.3” display
- 32GB Internal Memory (no SD)
- MIUI Jellybean based ROM
Hardware wise the phone hit all my needs - Software wise it is primarily tied into the MIUI Rom. While the bootloader is not unlocked, Xiaomi also offers stock Jellybean android for the phone as well.
The Mi-2 is mostly sold in China, but recent expansion into Australia and the UK has been announced as well. Given I am in the US, my best option was to order from China - As there are fake Mi-2's being produced, it was essential I find a reputable dealer.
After reading great reviews from both XDA and miuiandroid.com, I decided to make the purchase from ibuygou.com
There customer service and communication was great from before buying through delivery - Their customer service rep Anna was in constant communication and updated me on my phone's progress via DHL. In all, from order to delivery took approximately one week from China to Los Angeles.
Additionally, and very important to me, they accepted payment via PayPal so I had some buyer protection in case of issues. Some places in China want money orders/Western Union and I do not trust this at all.
What arrived was a great surprise:

Anna and the team at ibuygou.com went out of their way to deliver a great package!
Once the package was opened I found the phone, a USB cable, and a charger. They do not include headphones with the phone, but I've got a few pairs around so it was no issue at all.
The phone is available in a wide array of colors, but since I knew I would get a case to protect the outside I went with a white backing (to give some contrast against my case) ibuygou.com was great at fulfilling my color request.
The phone's screen is amazingly sharp - While a little smaller than the HTC One X and the Nexus 4, the picture is stunning and has held up relatively well in sunlight.
Additionally, the front glass is dragontrail glass - an Asian competitor to Gorilla glass. There's a great video of its strength shown on the Mi-2 that was created by ibuygou.com: http://youtu.be/84z_BIrLlp4
While staying on the lockscreen, the MIUI ROM has some great features built in:
1. Access to phone, messaging, and camera directly from the lockscreen
2. Music control via the lockscreen (if music is playing)
3. Holding down the home key turns on the torch light - no need to pass the lockscreen to have a handy flashlight
Inside the phone, MIUI uses a look similar to iPhone w/ no launcher. Being a big android fan, I'm not too big of the ios look, so I added Apex launcher to bring back the app drawer.
While some would question why I am using MIUI and then adding a launcher to change the look of MIUI, I have found that MIUI is very stable, offers many great features, has strong development (new ROMs rolled out weekly), as well as being incredibly stable. One of the features I really enjoy is the toggle screen from the menu bar.
While I never would buy a phone for a music player, I've found MIUI's music player to be a really great. Additionally, the phone has Dolby audio built into which, so far, I have found to be somewhat similar to the beats audio on my HTC One X.
The battery life has been pretty solid (especially coming from the One X) and feel its a bit better than what I was able to achieve on the Nexus 4. Additionally, there is an extended 3100mAh battery available from ibuyghou as well, though it does make the phone a big thicker and adds some weight.
Without the extended battery, I feel the phone is a good weight and, while thicker then my most recent devices, it wasn't too thick. In all, the size and feel of the phone is great. The quality is pretty amazing.
The camera has been pretty solid, though I would probably give the edge to my HTC One X.
All-in-all, the Mi-2 has been a great phone so far that has performed amazing well and definitely recommend it as an option for those looking for a new, top of the line android device at a great price.
Let me know if you have any further questions I can answer - hope this helps!
Hi! Congrats for your new phone. I wish I could have it too and I want to buy it , but I am afraid of fake ones.
-But I want to ask you what is the stock version of MIUI when you received it?
-Also is it stable? I mean is it crashing and giving FC so much and frequently?
-Do you void your warranty if you put unofficial MIUI ROM, which is not made and tested from experts from MIUI China?
Thanks in advance!

It ships with MIUI running off of 4.1.1 and there is supposed to be an update coming through in the next month or so.
My original plans were to run stock android once I received the phone, but given the weekly updates and stability I've had with MIUI, I have not tried out stock as I felt it would be a step back.
As for the stability, I havent had any issues on the current version from miuiandroid.com (MIUI 3.1.25) - This version isnt the official Chinese version, but is a build from a group that supports MIUI outside of China - they turn around the China updates very quickly, address issues, as well as add additional language support. Mi-2 ships w/ Chinese and English only (and the English isn't perfect on the Chinese ROM)
That being said, I havent had any FCs myself.
As for warranty void, I don't believe there is an issue, but you're ROM choices are very limited - It is either a variation on the MIUI ROM or it is the stock JB ROM. Bootloader isn't unlocked so there aren't a ton of choices, but so far I have been enjoying MIUI much more than I had anticipated (with the addition of Apex Launcher).
I never tried APEX laucher as i am quite satisfied with buitin ui, maybe I need to have it a try

It definitely gives it more of an android feel (over iOS) while still getting the great features of MIUI.
Thanks for the review....
I own a Mi One myself and have enjoyed using it a great deal, MIUI has some really nice features, the only really let down on the M1 is the camera and the lack of jelly bean so far is a bit annoying.
I had thought about getting a nexus 4 for my next phone just for a change and the fact it has a larger display, but from what I have read the M2 camera seems to actually be superior to the Neuxs 4 so am starting to think that despite the smaller display the M2 might actually be the way to go again.
How would you say the camera compares to the Nexus 4? And how would you say performance compares to the nexus 4 in general ? I have read it has the same sensor as the GS3.

I would say the camera is definitely better than the nexus 4 - overall I prefer the mi-2 over the nexus 4. more memory, bigger battery, resolution is great. the only thing i miss is getting fast updates of stock :/, but I've really come to like miui and is strong development.
There is some reason they send items disguised as gifts, I've heard of places doing it before. I think it may have to do with customs or shipping price.
What I want to know is how is the build quality on this thing? I've been in the market for a high end phone without a gigantic screen and this phone has both of those qualities.

I imagine size is a big factor as the Mi2 has a 4.3" screen and is more compact than the 4.7" Nexus 4.

Hi, You say the bootloader is locked, is there any chance of it being unlocked in near future???
Cause I am using an Atrix 2 now which has a locked bootloader and my sister has Galaxy s Advance, and I am writhing now seeing all the cool custom roms and kernels with unlocked bootloaders!!
Also. How are the VIEWING ANGLES??? It really matters to me. I dont like devices which mess up colours when looked at from angles
(like when put on table top) Which is why I am more inching towards Galaxy S3 or hTC One x...
Thanks!!

Also. How are the VIEWING ANGLES??? It really matters to me. I dont like devices which mess up colours when looked at from angles
(like when put on table top) Which is why I am more inching towards Galaxy S3 or hTC One x...
Thanks!!

In all, I do prefer the Mi-2 over the Nexus. More memory (32gb vs 16gb on the Nexus 4,) better battery life, replaceable battery with extended battery option (3100 mAh,) great screen, better camera, and I've come to like MIUI (w/ the addition of Apex launcher)
The miss about the Nexus: slightly bigger screen, stock android updates directly from Google.
We have stock android available from Xiaomi, but it is still 4.1.1 - We'll probably see 4.1.2 sometime after the Chinese New Year.....
The Xiaomi Mi2 is an awesome bang for the buck, but Ibuygou.com is charging a $105 premium to get the phone. If you want a 100% genuine Mi2 and can have it delivered in China for pickup later, then you can go to http://www.xiaomi.com/mi2 and reserve one for 1999 CNY (available after Chinese New Year). My colleague's friend works at Xiaomi and they said Xiaomi is ramping up production for worldwide expansion, so supply shortages should be a thing of the past soon.
benn using xiaomi MI2 for almost a week.
I'm using development rom 3.2.1.
I'm very satisfied with this phone right now

The issue is that most people do not have a place in China to have the phone shipped to and then picked-up - While ibuygou charged a premium (as most retailers/resellers do) they were able to ship it to me within the US and shipped the 100% genuine phone.
I am gonna make some Chinese friends on FB...:victory:
Hey, mymellowman,
Can you test Mi2 with Androbench and post results here?
Thanks in advance

The phone is OK for a normal user It has all most all the features of a smart phone and i am using it for the last 6 moths didn't face any problems,i feel that MIUI software is not so user friendly in the beginning but once you get used to it you will like it.

I already use MIUI in another device. It's really good and like it so much
The performance for normal use without force hardware its enough for me

Beware the enormous lag, the ROM is extremely slow, the phone wont be upgraded to Android 5, it will remain on 4.4.4 KK.
Miui 7 is really a 4.4.4 for this device. (only a few Xiaomi phones will get Lollipop)
I have a Redmi 2 for 5 months, Xiaomi iare not planning to develop Lollipop for this smartphone.

The phone is great in it's price range!
Hi! I've been using the Redmi2 4G version for a couple of months now, and I think I'm ready to give an opinion on it, to the best of my abilities.
For this price range, it's actually very tough to beat the Redmi 2, with specs. The looks are premium, you won't feel like using a cheap Chinese-build phone, it's actually well made. I have an issue with the back panel finish, it's rather slippery despite being matte. I'm pretty sure you would have researched on it's specs, so you would know, that it is THE DEAL for it's price category.
The back camera is pretty good, macro mode is specifically good, but night photography isn't that great. Front camera's performance is rather satisfactory.
Battery is pretty good, lasts a day for me, with moderate usage.
There are NO heating issues with my phone. Off course, if you will play Asphalt for a couple of hours straight, it is bound to heat up.
Display is pretty intriguing for a budget phone.
If you've used MIUI in the past, you would know of it's resemblance with the iOS. While MIUI is pleasing to the eyes, and pretty simple to use and learn, I would add, that it's best for the 2GB RAM phones. MIUI with a 1GB RAM phone sucks BIG time, so, yeah, Redmi2 has issues here, lagging, crashing apps at times.
Now, since I prefer the stock-android feel better, I have flashed mine with a pretty stable CM11 ROM.
If you're a heavy gamer, I recommend you to browse phones in higher price ranges. Redmi2 is a good everyday usage phone, but certainly NOT the one for heavy gamers.
Long cut short:- Go for it, it is pretty awesome. P.S. - I don't know if Redmi 2's Prime version(2GB RAM) is available in your country, if it is, rather go for that.
Cheers.

Really i got it attention and look for Redmi 2 cause the specs and good price tag. I use today a Quadcore cortex armv7 snapdragon 200 , but without version updates upper JB 1 (4.1.2) we waiting so far , but the factory strategically isn't willing to put lot of money for invest licences .
This situation made me take a decision to start development at point to create my own roms
I like very much about MIUI, used on my own others devices ( Defy Mb526 Atrix 4G) . One of my works development was inspired by MIUI V6 , creating my design and ported some MI apps for package
I really have interest to get one Redmi. Here just Redmi 2 it's avaliable in local market but others devices will be launched soon like MI 4

Don't expect Lollipop update for Redmi2. The Mi team isn't quite interested in giving Lollipop updates. So, that's quite a letdown.
I am facing a problem with the phone, there is poor microphone sound at other end. Anyone know any solution to this issue? Please help

I'm one of the first buyers here in Brazil. On the launching event, the MIUI Brazilian website got bugged and fewer people was able to buy (I'm one of them, hacking the page).
I got a few complains:
the HDR Camera is laggy as hell when I take pictures.
There's no app drawer.
Sometimes I'm unable to unlock the phone, because of lag (I think). Seriously, this is annoying.
When phone gets too slow, when I go to the home screen the interface reloads itself.
Playing games like Fallout Shelter is a big problem, lagging as hell.
1GB RAM isn't enough for the phone (for me, at least) .
Sometimes the phone heats so much.
The phone has a x64 architecture, but the MIUI is 32 bits. Sounds like a waste of processing power.
There's no support forum for Brazilian users in the official boards.
No Lollipop support and no plans to receive update.
Things I liked:
Built-in security, like Antivirus and cleaning app.
The interface is so beautiful.
LTE (4G here in Brazil) for BOTH sim cards.
I can Easily switch wich sim card to make a call, send SMS or use Mobile data.
The frontal camera has a special facial recognition, telling the age, for example.
The phone charges super fast (2200 mAh battery).
It's cheap, compared to other phones. It costs less than $ 150 (at the time I bought it).
I don't think that I'm a hard user for this phone (seriously, I didn't even play so much on the phone). I know it's a mid-term smart phone. But the MIUI lag is annoying (I got crazy sometimes). I tried to use the beta versions of the MIUI rom, tried to use performance scripts, Greenify, other camera apps.
Now I'm using a customized CM 12.1 for the device, to see if I'm able to use easily the phone, like driving in my car, got lost and easily open Waze or Google Maps to see where I need to go. Actually, I need to stop and park the car, clean current apps (some times reboot) to properly use.
nice reply @juliovedovatto
i have for several days a 2GB RAM / 16 GB ROM version and I can say that I have none of the below mentioned lagging problems.
What else is different in my setup is that I am already on MIUI 7 developer.
I should admit also that I did not play any game.
Coming from an Iphone I am kind of used of not having an app drawer and MIUI 7 is pretty eye candy...
Right now I am considering if CM (11 or 12) are worth the try... I think the main gain will be a battery life increase (at least from my other experience with CM), but I cannot see any other benefits, at least for me. I should study a bit more.
aaaah... battery lasts ~1 day. less if you use a lot the screen... max so far for me is 1 1/2 days

If you want to try the CM roms, I need to advise you: see what model your phone is. Actually the CM roms supports only HM2014811-HM2014813. The compiled baseband maybe does not work for you Redmi model.
There's a chance of you apply the rom and it does not have support for LTE networks. Like my case, my phone is HM2014819 and I discovered this misfortune today, after reading tons of posts and articles and flashing 10 times my phone
The good news that the performance of CM is far superior than the MIUI roms.
I own a 2014813
nevertheless the battery life i see as the main gain of CM vs MIUI. Is there something else worthing, I mean like really making a difference?

Thanks @juliovedovatto for your feedback, have good experience and content for fixes report.
The Xiaomi Team recently replied me about issues that have been causing, lags and this report turn around the device performance, it's needed constant evolution to directing it in fixes updates. All of Redmi owner's can do it mentioning in Xiaomi support channels
They also informed that the objectives for now is update for MI7 and we will be wait this results!

For example, when Skype is running on the background, it disconnects itself (and its icon disappears from notification line) and when I click its icon again, it opens as if I freshly opened it, loading everything again. It was locked in recent apps so it won't stop. But it will. Even when nothing else is running. Sometimes when I have browser and few other apps running at once (not many, two or three other apps) and a music player, sometimes the music randomly stops - it is killed for RAM even if it's locked (i absolutely hate this on MIUI but fortunately it happens quite rarely now, perhaps the last weekly update messed something up again).
MIUI is extremely RAM-hungry. I mean - if Windows XP can run on 512 MB RAM device and be perfectly usable even for complex work, what is this supposed to be? And with Cyanogen on my Redmi 2, there is still buttload of free RAM when I have several apps opened just like before on MIUI. Currently I'm running CM12 Lollipop ROM made by Zwiliev which I installed today, when I finally got tired of MIUI. And since some V6 build, Mass Storage disappeared so there is no sane way to connect a phone as a flash drive. For me, Cyanogen solved all those things, and many more that I don't feel like writing down here.
On the other hand, the Redmi 2 itself is a decent phone. With very nice headphone output quality - the best of all phones I've ever had. The camera is pretty good, too. The display is beautiful - i thought that it is nuts to have 1024xSomething resolution on a device this small but it really looks very good. And MIUI has in-built root capability, at least. Wifi is powerful enough to have signal where my previous smartphone was already out of range. Replaceable battery and memory card slot. The hardware is indeed very very good for those money so if you don't mind using Cyanogen, buy it
Yay, this is gonna be my tenth post so finally I can send feedback to ROM developers (AT LONG LAST! WHICH PORK HEAD'S IDEA WAS THIS?)

Zuk Z2 PRO really Worth it?

Hi, i was at only a "click" to buy this phone, ( I dont like 5.5 huge smartphones.) so this was a perfect fit for me... But then i did a bit of research and i found that the camera is not good, there are very few ROM support, no one bug free, no LinageOS support, the Zui are "not for everyone" and there is only english and chinese official versions, lack of perfect fit screen protection... and then in the forum "ZukFans" i saw some members selling their Zuk Z2 Pro after a week of use...
With all of this drawback the phone still worth it? I dont have money to buy another phone if this doesnt fit me. I dont like 5.5 huge smartphones. This have the 4G band that i use, powerful SOC, 6GB Ram, the perfect screen size, and "in paper a good camera".
Please be honest about this, I do not believe in the reviews, only in what the community thinks. Thanks!
The biggest things wrong with the phone are that there is no expandable notifications or quick replay and no lock screen widgets (music play buttons etc). The buttons on the notification bar work, but you can't see the name or the thumbnail (at least with spotify and google play). The camera has gotten improvement, including full manual controls in the nougat update. I don't think it's terrible. It works ok. If camera is a focus for you maybe find something else. The flash is a bit warm and not very bright from what I found.
Some people are having probs with notifications too, but personally I haven't had an issue. You need to mess with safe center to make sure that it keeps the apps in memory, and allow notifications. If you don't it'll auto close the app to conserve battery.
There is someone working on an unofficial Linage ROM, but we'll see what comes of it.
Beside camera it is a beast.i would rather prefer my old mi5 camera.it was just best.even better than samsung and iphone.price you it is really woth it.especially 6gb ram and 128 storage is a big advantage.as i said only thing bothers me is a quality of camera.thats all

I very much liked the camera, it works very well. Nearly all photos I took came out nicely. I can compare the cam to a few phones, including iPhone, and I think it does a good enough job.
As to ROM support - there is not much of it. Stock was fine with me, no issues, but some privacy concerns. We are talking about China here...
In the long run, I am not sure about ROM support from ZUK. If they stop updating it, this phone is basically dead.
If you want no larger phone, how about a Huawei P9 or even Nova?
I sold my Z2 Pro and kept my Sony Xperia X which really has a poor cam but very good software support on their Concept path. I'm on 7.1.1 with security patch from Jan 2017...
well, seems not a good choice after all to buy this phone, so dissapointed. And seems that will be forgotten so fast... that scares me. I cant understand why is happening this to a smartphone with brilliant specs... Thanks very much for your replies!

Thanks for the suggestions, but i like phones with physical home button (i hate the on screen back-home-menu buttons), the other thing i dont like are the black borders like the LeEco Phones.
Would like to use this thread, not create new one.
Could You tell mi if it's still worth considering? Right now?
I'm looking for new device. First choice is/was LG V20. Thought that after V30 will be out, the proce will drop and I will get it, but unfortunately 2nd display is not working on custom Roms, I cannot stand stocks, so it makes it nothing special...
Than I remembered Z2 and now Im thinking about it. It's pretty cheap for it's insides. Have custom rom support, which doesn't make important features unusable. As for camera I have Moto X Play and Xperia Z2 (coincidence? Don't think so!), which are really nice, so I can survive how it works on nonstock roms.
Only think I hate is that I seem not find any black version of Zuk (GSMArena states that there is one), but I think I survive white device
Could You tell me if everything works fine? How fast GPS gets fix? Does BT drops a lot? Anyone uses BT headphones? Hows the sound (I have AWEI A920BL and maybe they are not the best, but for bicycle they are awesome)?
I mean on custom Roms, like AEX.
Is it hard to mod? I have modded many devices, even Lenovo ones, but never had Lenovo with Snapdragon
Is there any chance for brick when unlocking bootloader (does it have to be done?), rooting, flashing TWRP?
How many versions of Z2 Pro are there? One I'm considering is Z2121. Does it makes modding more difficult or something?
Well I will try to answer a few of your questions:
Is phone worth buying? Yes, but of course only if you cannot find comparable device with better price and better community support. SD820 will perform great for a long time.
Black version was hopelessly sold-out long ago but white version is also nice.
GPS on stock was lightning fast, usually fixed in around 5 secs. On AEX in 20-30 secs, but I have used it only once since flashing so maybe next time will be better.
Bluetooth - no problem with car radio connection, works like a charm both on stock and AEX.
There is always chance for bricking, but follow instructions and you are safe. There are no brutal 100 step howtos with huge red warning like "One mistake and kiss your device goodbye".
That's what I need to hear. With GPS it may be place where You were trying to get fix. Have and had a lot of devices and mostly 3-5 secs was needed.
As for comparable device I don't see any. 820 is still great, 6 GB RAM will be enough for next few years. 128 GB is even to much for me (still would love to have SD slot, but with this space I can survive without one).
As for bricking I was afraid coz there were some devices I modded which could be very easily bricked. Never happen, but considering how easy is to mod Xperia or Moto... let's say I would prefer for every phone be that easy
What about this Z2121? Is it something special version? Chinese or ROW one? Or all Z2 Pro are Z2121 and I'm just looking for something were nothing is too look for?

Z2121 is the real name of this phone^^ like SM-XXXX for Samsung phones.
For me GPS is 5-7 second to fix on AEX 4.6
Just one thing on AEX we have to mod the build.prop and change ro.product.model=Z2 Pro to ro.product.model=Z2122 because it's the name on stock ROM and without this we don't have 60 fps on YouTube and all Play Store apps.

And for the price, specs and developers community are amazing ! S820, UFS 2.0 memory, 6GB LDDR4 RAM, Super AMOLED screen, f/1.8 13 Mpxl camera, glass/metal body and PHYSICAL HOME BUTTON !
Thanks. So now I have to convince myself to spend 200€
Physical Home sounds good, but I prefer phones with bigger screen and OSB, so I can turn them off, install LMT and use PIE
Just wanted to say thet ordered ZUK today. So month-two and there will be new device for me to play with

Is Le Pro 3 right for me? Advice please.

My battery life has taken a nosedive in the last year, and I hate the 'edge' screen which is more of a nuisance than anything. Performance isn't anything to write home about either, considering the hardware inside it - it lags and jitters occasionally (although it is generally quite fast).
Every time I get a Samsung phone I end up wanting to go back to a vanilla Android one. And I don't want to root this S7E because unlocking the bootloader trips a firmware fuse, permanently breaking your ability to use Android Pay and voiding the warranty,. I wouldn't care if I was keeping the phone but I want to sell it.
So the reason I'm in this forum is to find out whether the Le Pro 3 is going to be a good fit for me. The hardware specs I am happy with. But I need to know if stock Android ROMs are fully 100% stable & able to be used as a daily driver? I've looked at a few of the ROMs in the dev forum and they all seem to mention IR not working and 4K recording not working. If that's all that's wrong then I could live with that. I am well past the stage of wanting to flash my phone every week, I want to 'set and forget'.
So if you could give me your honest opinion of the phone itself with an AOSP ROM that you use and any drawbacks, then I would really appreciate it.
4k is working now. TBH even the leeco's EUI isnt half bad once you flash one of the debloated rom's that you can find on here, and is incredibly smooth/and battery efficient.
Regarding nougat, from my own exp., it's been my daily for a month now. I find it extremely stable, havent had a single crash, suddenr reboot or whataoever. My personal favouritr is Omni, smooth as can be, but have tried Lineage and RR, no complaints there either. I use my phone all the time, charge it over night, and get regularly over 10h SOT thnx to @darkobas, some kernel tweaks, and leeco of course for jamming in 4000mah of battery lol.
I have Lex720 3-4 months, never find single issue with this phone. Roms, I flashed many of them, atm i am on stock 6.0 TARS 23S by Steve Mars I like this one everything works good, good battery life.
But I don't use my phone a lot, no game, everyday I got over 50% juice left can use it for another day. It's comparable to Oneplus3/3t for performance, battery life maybe better. If you don't care about headphone jack it's as good as any phone I think and it's 300$, can't beat it.
Best phone at its price you can get!
Great hardware specs, jack isnt even needed tbh you can get cdla earphones and everything will be good. Especially with dolby+viper you will be amazed.
Only con i find is camera at low light conditions (day light its fine) but thats fixable if leeco updates the software regarding img processing and i believe we will se improvements with EUI Nougat. Also no OIS but it has EIS.
Regarding rom, tora 23s,debloated 20s and now miui that is been worked on by also tora and turbo are great roms.
I dont like CM roms but as far as i have seen in postsk omni rom is great.
Seriously the phone is a beast and if we give it a little more time all roms will be finalized.
Point is, are you going to buy it with the launch of mi6 plus? If i were you i would wait to see the full specs and price.
I am using latest stock 21s with root and underclock. Performance good and battery life is also insane.

What he said. Also, I use the provided USB-C to 3.5 adapter with my sony earphones, the sound is excellent!
I bought the Lepro after 3 years of Nexus 5 ownership, and while I adore that thing to death and though it was going to be near impossible for me to find a phone who I'd find a worthy replacement, it was riddled with battery issues/wakelocks and crap from day 1. The lepro just blew me away, and still does.

OP3T ones work on our phone, same SOC. I used them as a basis to make my own two scripts that I toggle via a QS tile
I've had this phone for a while and everything is great except the camera quality, you will see a huge difference compared to S7 Edge.
Phone is running very stable with LineageOS 13, i use it as my daily driver and i don't have any problems so far.
Not interested in Xiaomi phones. I did consider the Mi5+ (i think) before i got my S7E but when i read about the hoops you have to jump thru to unlock the bootloader then i lost all interest.

I've read all the replies and I'm still on the fence. Mainly because I'm one of those people who doesn't like buying a phone unless it's brand new, ie right at the start of its life-cycle!
I held off to see what the Le Max 3 would be like when it was announced, but I assume no Snapdragon processor = no dev interest and no ROMs.
You guys are knowledgable about Chinese phones - what else is coming out soon? I would wait for the OnePlus 5, but I've read that they're going with an edge screen (that I'm desperate to get away from). I like the idea of a Snapdragon 835 and 6GB RAM though.
Is there anything else on the horizon that I should be considering?
if you dont need a phone right now then you can wait a couple of months, the axon should be announced soon, also the honor pro 8 is already out
If u want support and great specs just go for mi6, period. The only phones i would buy would be either huawei or xiaomi from chinese brands. Leeco was the only exception because at that time nothing compared to its specs plus i am not a heavy-camera user so it was just the phone i needed.
If i were you right now i woudlnt go for it to be honest. Just my personal thoughts though.
Edit; If i was given again the opportunity to buy out of all 821sd phones i would still go LP3. I am not dissapointed at all. But right now i dont think its worth it with the launch of 835. Although the diffence is not great its better to have the latest phone.

For Xiaomi phones no development, for me right now the best buy is Oneplus 3t

I hope I'm not late to this thread. Please do not buy this phone. There is no UNBRICKING support for this device whatsoever.
Please look around in this matter. There are about 5 threads of sudden deaths of this phone on Leeco.re, 3 more threads of sudden death of this device on leeco official forum where they will make u a bouncing ball and about 4 or 5 bricked threads over here on xda. This device is highly unreliable and shady after-sale support.
Until you live in a country where leeco officially retails (like india, HK, china) please refrain from buying this phone. I really hope you do not end up into a trashcan like I did when I bought Le Pro 3 without my ground work. I loved the phone until it lasted.
Your best bet is to get One Plus 3T which despite its expensiveness, has extended AOSP support and genuinely amazing community so far.

My first Android phone after using iPhone for years : How is Mi 9T ?

Hi
I want to buy Nova 5T or Mi 9T. I really like 9T but I have some concerns :
1. How good is AMOLED display build quality? Is it color accurate? How easily can burn in happens? Many people complained about jitter and ghost touch problems on this phone.
2. Many people complain about the battery life after updating to MIUI 11. Is the problem fixed and is the battery life like MIUI 9?
3. Android 11 will definitely come to 9T but what about 12 and 13? I’m not familiar with Xiaomi policy do they make old phones slow on purpose?
And 9T users ... What are cons and pros in the real life usage?
Full explanation here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...9t-nova-5t-t4116265/post82852497#post82852497
Thanks
amazing device..definately go for it
Stuttering and worse batery life after update to Miui 11, also bugs... Stay on iphone. I will switch back to iphone this month.

The 9t is my first Xiaomi device too, I only owned Motorola devices until now.
1) For my eyes the display is colour accurate, no burn in until now (have to say that I own the device just a few month). No jitter or ghost touch problems.
2) I'm on latest MIUI 11 stable and battery life is just awesome compared to my other devices. I'm a heavy user (lot of SOT, WLAN/mobile data,GPS and Bluetooth) and until now I wasn't able to get under 35-40% after a day.
3) I can't tell you, maybe someone with more Xiaomi experience than I has to answer that.
If you're aware of the Xiaomi typic things like bloatware (can be solved with root privileges or by ADB without root) this device is a really good deal for the money. Camera, Display, overall speed.... I'm very satisfied with it.
Excellent device for its price., Using miuimix room or use miroom for best battery life and performance.
If you're an iPhone user I recommend you buying a Phone with Android stock or close like a Google Pixel or a OnePlus. You'll get a "polished" experience that will remind you iPhones whitout the drawbacks. MIUI, One UI... are less polished, I would not buy them If I were an iPhone user.
Writing from a Mi 9T, the phone is awesome, but maybe not for you

I was using iphone XR before moving to Mi 9T.
Hardware wise is great and comparable to phones 2 to 3 times its price (think Oneplus 7T pro).
The only problem I have is with MIUI"s push notifications. There are many articles saying to turn on/off some options to make it work. But there are even more posts/comments saying that push notifications do not work even with those tweaks. After flashing to custom rom, the push notifications started working perfectly without any tinkering.
This is a deal breaker as I need push notifications to work reliably (so I can't use MIUI). With custom roms however, you have to play cat and mouse game with banking apps that keep getting more strict with detecting phones that are not using stock firmware.
1. The display is very good. I've had the phone for a few months now and have had no problems with burn-in or jitter/ghost touch problems
2. I was only on Miui for a few weeks, but the battery life is excellent!
3. I don't think that you will get many major updates, I think the Mi 9T will not even be updated to Android 12. But you will get feature updates (Miui updates).
I've never heard of any Xiaomi phone being slowed down on purpose...
4. A friend of mine used iPhones for years. At the beginning of the year she switched from her iPhone SE to the Mi 9T and has not regretted the change for a second. She quickly found her way around with Android/Miui.
5. I highly recommend the Mi 9T. The best thing is to inform yourself a bit about rooting etc. and change to a custom rom as soon as possible. (Don't get me wrong, Miui is not that bad. But I like stock Android custom roms like Pixel Experience or LineageOS just much better With these roms you will also get Android 12 and 13 etc.) You won't have the possibility to root and flash a custom rom on the Nova 5T, because Huawei has locked the bootloader.
Pros in real life usage:
+excellent battery life (~8h screen on time)
+good cameras (I usually take my pictures with a DSLR... So I don't need the phones cameras very often, but they are quite good!)
+brilliant bezel-less Display
+many Custom Roms available
Cons:
-I'm not a big fan of Miui, but that's a matter of taste.

I recommend the MI9T
Great phone so far for me.
Pros:
1. Good display
2. Great performance for the price
3. Good battery life
4. No heating issues. (Im a heavy gamer )
5. Good camera
6. Sexy a*s design. (I get boner starring at it)
7. Fast finger print
Cons:
1. Camera night mode is awful ( u can install gcam)
2. I suggest u use a case cuz the phone is slippery
3. Facial recognition is pretty slow
*4. Thief attractor (phone too beautiful they can't resist getting their hands on it)
5. And then MIUI : dont get me wrong its awesome, I like the features and design . U won't find it hard with MIUI. But u get ads on the ROM and some slight bugs.
I unlocked my bootloader and installed xaoimi.eu ROM on it (miui v12 stable) which fixes almost everything wrong with the official one.
And if u stop receiving updates u can install custom ROMs. We have a great Dev team for this device.
Apart from that great phone.
P.s u can't unlock the bootloader of this Huawei phone

My usage is about 6 months.
1. It's good. Nothing weird with the screen.
2. Performance is still as good as when I first got this phone. Updated to MIUI 11, I got the drain once and a simple reboot fixed it. Never happened ever since. Normally I got 8hrs SOT daily with intense usage. Hours on gaming and media consumption.
3. Nah if u talking about official Android update, getting +1 year is the best thing you can expect. But tbh compared to other Android brands Xiaomi is quite generous in giving MIUI updates (UI updates).
Their 3 years old phone was still getting MIUI 11 so maybe this phone will also get at least 3+ years of MIUI update. But if you able to learn how to flash custom roms, it's possible to update your phone even 5 years later.
If you're from any iPhone lower than X, then you'll probably be ok with this phone. My brother use an iPhone and the only thing I wish this phone is as good as the iPhone is the vibration motor (if u ever use iPhone then you know it's that good) and video camera. Not that the video from this phone is ugly. It's very capable, just not as good as the iPhone. Also I recommend to install gcam. Game changer for photo quality.

Thanks for your replies. I read that Xiaomi gets AMOLED screens from two companies one Samsung and the other one is Visionox. ( VDE ID.40049450 & VDE ID.40050054 )
People say Xiaomi display is a lottery and also for the fingerprint they used another company’s sensor after the launch. ( First units get a nice FPC one that works great every time, then they silently introduce models with Goodix fingerprint readers instead which just aren't on par. )
https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/c0hqqk/mi_9t_has_amoled_instead_of_samsung_amoled_should/
Is there anyway to find out which display is used before I buy a phone and open the package?
The thing is I’m on budget right now and I don’t want to sell my iPhone 7 and get a defective phone.

Never heard of that and I have no idea how to detect in advance which display/fingerprint reader is used.
But I checked mine and it says goodix fingerprint, which is the cheaper one, and I'm satisfied with it...
Probably the display will also be the "cheaper" one, but I have absolutely nothing to complain about it! ?*
Screen is on top!
Camera is average nowadays (I got a View 20 it's miles away for pictures quality)
I got it for 1 week and got to say I'm only satisfied with Lineage OS custom ROM. The MIUI ROM is so bloated and buggy I almost returned the phone after a few days ? I would not suggest this device to someone coming from iPhone. Better go for a OnePlus device.
But if you love flashing and tweaking phones, go for it ? the price/quality ratio is good.
I'd recommend buying Nova 5T. Davinci is a good phone, but you need to debloat it after buying, then you may face UI performance issue (my phone was laggy but after deleting App Vault app update it worked properly, overall it is a rare problem). This is still a really good phone, I really enjoy using it. Also, it has better cameras and makes better photos with GCam than Nova does (my friend bought Nova and we compared). But Huawei has a more powerful CPU and no bloatware, usable out of the box so to say. Also, you should be familiar with EMUI as it copies IOS in many aspects. So, if you don't take too many photos at night and not going to root your phone or flash any custom ROM, I think Nova 5T is better than MI 9T

Probably the display will also be the "cheaper" one, but I have absolutely nothing to complain about it! ?*

Thanks
Touchscreen works excellent (goodix_ts) but fingerprint (goodix_ts) is practically of no use, total sh...(MIUI 10,11)
screen jitter and ghosting have been fixed for a while now, I haven't experienced those problems in a very long time. Mi 9T is very good for basically everything if you're a normal or heavy user, if you are a serious gamer or modder I would recommend the pro. Display has no issues and I have overclocked it and done tons of risky stuff with my display. Your milage may vary so don't take me for granted.

( First units get a nice FPC one that works great every time, then they silently introduce models with Goodix fingerprint readers instead which just aren't on par. )

Is there anyway to find out which display is used before I buy a phone and open the package?
The thing is I’m on budget right now and I don’t want to sell my iPhone 7 and get a defective phone.

Have to say, fingerprint sensor is not that fast. My only con.
About jumping to android. You definetly have to bee open mind and curious to get the most of it. Unlock bootloader, root and, most of all, debloat, is a must to have the best experience.
About Xiaomi. I reallly like miui, but this is a matter of taste. I had a redmi note 5 before and I see that it is steel being updated. So, about that, don't worry.
