RADIO

I'm running 3.37 whatever of the radio for this device (on Verizon) and I'd like this 3.42.50 radio. I actually have a 3.42.50 radio download but I'm told if I want to do this with the PC that the radio should be part of another cooked ROM so they flash during the same process. If this is true, which ROM out there includes this radio at this time?

Check that thread - has a link to 3 different radios and instructions
You can just flash the radio only, don't have to flash the whole rom.
If you DO flash the whole rom - you cannot let customizations run - it can mess up the phone.
OK...what if I don't have a 2GB microSD card? Can this be done with the flash program from the computer?
Yes, you can flash it from the computer.
Use this utility - unzip it into its own folder.
In this same folder - you need to put one of the radio files and rename it
Rename the radio file to:
ruu_signed.nbh
It has to be that name for the utility to see the update
You can flash via USB
No dice...
ERROR [328] : INVALID COMMAND
This Update Utility cannot be used for your PDA Phone. Please check your Update Utility.
I have the white XV6900 from Verizon and it has already been unlocked with the Coke Unlocker.
If it won't flash via the Rom update utility - your only hope is using SD card to flash.
Any 512MB, 1GB, or 2GB micro SD (it cannot be SDHC) will work
Just needs to be formatted FAT-32 and file called VOGUIMG.NBH
Can you borrow one from someone?
As long as the card is already fat-32 - don't have to format it.
Just need to put the VOGUIMG.NBH file in root of SD card.
Did you CID unlock the device? I am not sure if you can flash a radio without unlocking the CID first (please note that this is different from Cokeman's).
One other thing, there is a stock rom (I believe it is Bell's), which comes with 3.42.50. If you are unlocked, you could try to flash that rom (which will flash your radio as well), and then simply flash to whatever rom you want to have. That is how I did it as I couldn't flash via RUU or via SD.
You can find a link to that rom in my guide.
Edit: BTW, I am moving this thread to General as it is not dev related.
Thanks Thunder...that was my preference, just wasn't sure which ROM had that radio with it. Smallest microSD I have is 4GB and can't find anything smaller anywhere unless I try eBay which I'd hate to do for one task. I'll holler if I have any issues.
When you flash that Bell Rom - make SURE you do NOT let customizations run!
I have never had to flash that way to upgrade my radio, but from what I've heard,
it can mess with the phone settings and change carrier info if you are not on Bell.
Flash the ROM, let it reboot, and once it powers on, before it does anything, pull the battery.
Then go ahead, put it in boot-loader (tri-color) mode and flash the ROM that you want.

Never had that issue myself, but what Does_It_Matter says here makes perfect sense.
yeah....oopsie on my part and the customizations ran...oddly enough the phone is only half working. I did load another ROM but I'm left with the following features. I can make a call, send/receive text but cannot receive a call or access Internet on Verizon. Automated activation and manual do not seem to be working. Can I simply flash the Verizon ROM onto it to resolve the issue or is there a better approach?

Actually, not everything is lost. Just flash Verizon's rom, but before you do that, extract the contents of the exe and in the extracted folder you will see 2 nbh files. One will be about 100 MB (this is your rom), and the other will be roughly 12 MB (this is the radio). Delete the radio image and flash away. This way, you will ensure that you are not going to downgrade the radio again.
Good luck
OK...the good news is I was eventually to get the stock ROM back on there unfortunately had no choice but to downgrade the radio. Even though I extracted the exe and removed the related radio nbh file, the image would not install unless I ran it from the packaged exe from Verizon.
The bad part is the phone refuses to establish a data connection even after all of that. My fault for letting those Bell customizations run in the first place I suppose but I should have remembered that as I've done this before. I suppose there is some positive in the fact that I have the phone insured and they are sending me another (to bludgeon...lol).
I guess I'll eBay my way into a small microSD card for these radio upgrades. I plan on moving to Sprint and if I do so, can my XV6900 work on the Sprint network as well seeing it is also CDMA? I still have a chance to make this a nice phone for one of my kids when I tickle a new Windows 7 Phone.
Thanks for your help guys and I'm glad that at least someone else can read this and take the necessary precautions.

While technically the MP6900 and the XV6900 are almost identical (who am I kidding, they are the same damn phone!). Sprint doesn't like to activate Verizon's devices on their network and vice-versa. If you have it available (and don't need fast web on your device), try to switch to MetroPCS, which runs off the Sprint network anyways.

[ROM] Vodafaone New Zealand Optimised JVP from Romkitchen

I want to tell you about my new Rom which offers blazing fast performance, SIP over wifi and 3g and staggering battery duration.
I have tried them all lately. Cyanogenmod 7, Insanity 014 (cm7) Miui 1.6.3 and the international Miui (both also CM7). Plus all the variations on stock JVH/JVP Roms on XDA.
I then tried Romkitchen.org and using it, cooked my own rom with Touchwiz 4, and all the useful tools available with that kitchen. I then flashed a theme by JKay - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037157
JKay had kindly updated the themes resources for JVP themes to enable SIP over wifi and 3g.... don't forget to choose a JVP theme if you use JVP in Romkitchen
Instructions:
You must be on some form of Gingerbread Rom with bootloaders. You must be able to get into download mode. There are loads of resources about this on the dev area but this is my basic procedure:
I used Ficeto's Rom to start, which you can get here under clean install. I flashed it with Hiemdall which does not brick phones like Odin does (I have bricked two requiring the resistor modified connector to get them back). For Hiemdall you must totally unpack the archive (use winrar for that). You can then put each part in the appropriate Heimdall slot. Its easy. Don't forget to use the .pit file and select repartition
Assuming you don't stay with Ficeto, go to Romkitchen.org and start cooking!
Select Galaxy and go to generator. Under Base Rom choose JVP, and wipe or no wipe (that's up to you). Its handy to have a nowipe around for repair purposes.
Under Kernel choose the Chainfire kernel (haven't tried the Talon one yet). For those who like Kernel flashing they all work but you are back to Hiemdall to get rid of Tegrak. There is a convenient kernel flashing tool in the apps. Remember , backup first!
IMPORTANT. Under Modem choose BUJP5 if you are Vodafone. Apparently the JL2 modem is required for Telecom but you should research this.
Under apps choose as many as you want. Pull in all the utilities for now. Under themes choose JVP stock
Generate!
Download the following:
A new gps.conf http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/guide-gps-quickest-fix-solution.2022/ (if you want good gps)
A VNZ csc file http://www.bitstream.co.nz/samsung/vnz.rar
If you are using Touchwiz 4, try upgrading to the better modded one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13435895&postcount=1
Im sorry the VNZ.rar is not an installable zipfile. Unpack it and copy the VNZ folder to the phone.
Put the resultant zips on the phone and then reboot to clockwork mod by pressing up-home-on in the usual manner. Select install zip from sd card and navigate to the zip and install away. Install the generated file first and reboot. Don't bother to set the phone up.
Install Super Manager from market. Enable root on it and them copy the VNZ folder to /system/csc.
Use Nitrality tools set set the csc to VNZ. The phone will reboot and after that you can set it up.
Once all is good use Quickboot to go to recover and make a backup. Then you can apply the new JKay theme (or any other JVP theme) zipfile. Occasionally this seems to break some apps and you will have to restore the backup.
Once all is good then do the following if you want great battery duration:
Install the CFroot addon (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=591080&d=1304947623) and use it to select conservative cpu governing. You might also select to change to ext4 lagfix if you want. With that I get Quadrant 2500 after a couple of runs before changing the cpu governing
Install Juice Defender. It's great on stock roms (but not so good on CM7). One caveat is that when you use sip (available under settings/call settings/Internet call settings if you flash a JKay or similar theme) you won't be able to receive calls when the screen is blacked as data is them turned off to save energy unless downloads are in progress.
Sit back and marvel how your phone does not drain the battery when you are not using it!! I get at least a day and a half now even when I use it a lot. I even went to bed with it nearly flat and when I got up it was still nearly flat, maybe 1% down.
If you want far better gps in New Zealand, use Super manager to copy gps.conf to /system/etc/ replacing the old gps.conf. Reboot.
I will post my rom if you want.
Hi tazzydemon
I followed your guide here, and wow the phone operates so well after. However, I just have one issue that since running through this, I no longer obtain 3G reception. And, going into the network settings, the option to switch between 2G and 3G is not there.
Have I done something wrong?
I have a suspicion that it's because I didn't follow through with your instructions regarding the VNZ csc code, because the link you provided to the vnz.rar file presents a 404 error.
Do you have any suggestions?
Cheers for your help.
Voda CSC
Hi Tazzy,
Appreciate if you could rehost the Voda CSC file somewhere and let us know of the link. Been looking for it for a while now!
Cheers mate.

I don't think it actually makes too much difference operationally..but a quick examination of the csc shows that it sets the emergency dialling numbers which I guess is quite significant.
I have enabled directory browsing now so please go to http://www.bitstream.co.nz/samsung/ and pick what you want. I am sorry the VNZ is not packaged as clockwork installable (I am making one right now)
I have changed to JKay 4_1 which you can find here and download here for JVP.
You might also consider the apk listed for V4 as it gives you different lockscreens and different power menus
However in settings/Mobile Networks I have VFNZ Internet as selected access point name and under network mode I have all three choices as expected
Use Super Manager to dump the vnz directory in to the same place as the others and use Nitrality to change the csc
I have now made my first clockworkmod installable zipfile for the VNZ csc file.
Please find it here VNZ-CSC-SIGNED.zip and install it via clockworkmod as usual.
I have to say I am blown away by how long the battery is lasting with conservative governance checked and with Juice defender. My only gripe is that that setting prevents me using SIP to answer calls.

You are on Vodafone I take it (not Telecom) you will need a different modem for Telecom
By the way if you want accurate battery life then charge you battery to the max. Reboot to recovery and wipe battery stats.
All the flashing and rebuilds without full battery will alter the calibration.
Hi tazzydemon
thanks for your reply. I managed to change the csc to XEU and all is working well now.
I have switched to the Voodoo kernel from the romkitchen selection, because I couldnt find the option to disable the lagfix in the Chainfire kernel. (we need to disable and enable the lagfix for internal development).
I'm using the Jkay AllGreen theme, I think it looks nice and smooth. Also, the CRT lock screen animation is quite novel.
I've downloaded the VNZ CSC file and will give it a try, thanks for all of your help.
Hi Tazzydemon
Are you having problems with Bluetooth after applying the Rom Kitchen rom? I have tried n three Samsung Galaxy S devices and the Bluetooth just doesn't turn on, it just times out and never comes alive.

Hi,
I am facing Network Issues on Vodafone SIM Card while roaming around Pune. I am not able to register to the network even if there is a full network coverage. And it is continuously switching between 2G & 3G network at the places where I am able to connect. Please suggest what to do.
I have tried replacing the SIM card also tried with other SIM cards. Few of them work and few don't.
I have also changed the USB connector and Network Cable but all in vain.
I am running stock Samsung ROM FNI1 for India with Root. My IMEI is showing correct as what is there on the box.
I tried your method but to no use, still getting the same issues.
Please provide me with a solution, it will be very grateful of you.
Thanks,
Avinash

looks like ur phone have hardware issues
is ur phone working fine before ??
Let me know.....
Yes, it was working properly earlier. Please suggest something if there is a hardware problem then what should be the resolution. Because it is showing complete list of operators when searching . So if there was something wrong with hardware then it should not show any of them.
will this work on 4.1.2. i love to use 4.1.2.
I tried the modem files on two 4.1.2 roms but they did not work. They made my imei null/null.
No offence meant for OP, but Same can be achieved by patching the modem file using Zuluman's modem patcher if the solution is only for 4.3 and above.
Can anyone please help me to get network on 4.1.2 omega 17/18 or thunder lite 7 please.

Hi guys
I hope somebody can help me with this wierd problem. When I flash a 6.0.1. ROM I have this bug where I get a fix for one secound and the next secound it loses it. When I go back to a 5.1 ROM this dosent happen. I've already tried most of the solutions out there and nothing seems to fix it. Since I use a GPS a lot I need it to be fully functional.
I made a video of it

Highway/A350 stock rom, intern sdcard not detected + communication/ime problem

Hi everyone
I got a Wiko Highway (french), Canvas Knight A350 for you
He is slow, freeze, no more space. So i come here to install an updated ROM
2Go internal space for system and 10Go for user media shown in a "sdcard" (but not physically one)
my phone was rooted, i've installed phylz recovery (from : https://forum.xda-developers.com/canvas-knight/development/miui-8-canvas-knight-a350-mt6592-t3529989 links)
installation of recovery worked fine with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mkrtchyan.recoverytools&hl=fr
i've reboot in recovery, wiped all.... then bug (or i havn't wait enough long) i've shut down then loop boot
i've reinstalled original build, a stock version from an officiel .exe (HIGHWAY KITKAT_V19.exe) it work and put all the phone like the first time (with my 10go user space)
i re do a root (kingo root) / recovery (phylz by rashr) / in recovery i wipe all, install from zip, then... no sdcard, it take a folder sdcard in the data of the 2Gb space, can't find my "10go sdcard" directory :/
then i've mount usb, transfered the rom in the 2Gb data/sdcard folder, installed the rom, worked but and got a phone with totally 2gb space for system/data/media no more intern sdcard T-T
any idea ?
it look like the problem is link to v1 v2 v3 things, did i missed something to do from stock rom v? to recovery v3/rom v3 from now ? wrong recovery ?
thx
- news :
> on officiel stock rom 4.4, i get back my 10go media place, deleted it / plug to computer to format in fat32 / used an internal sdcard fix / same pb nothing detected in the recovery :/
ok finally found !
wish it will help some other people !
the problem is that i'm not only a newbie, i'm french too (i see your smile ! )
seriously, its hard to find help about this problem cause we are not on the same start :/
looking here or other international forum for helps was hard (cause unknown prolem)
looking on french forums for helps was useless (cause they are french and just copy paste this forum, smile again)
so ! The solution is that my a350 is a "wiko highway", who got for last official update a stock rom v2.
like a newbie, i've installed a v3 recovery and a v3 rom on my phone like i read everywhere "just follow the steps"
yep but add, start from a stock rom v3 please :3
I had to install a stock v3 rom (sp flash > format phone > install a350 v3 stock rom) : now have 12.06GB phone place.
recovery now detect my internal sdcard, installation work, new roms work, got my full space
/ ! \ now got communication problem T-T, all work even data for internet but no phone no sms. ime = null, many post on this but not easy to resolve :/
- flashing back french orignal rom fix nothing
- changing with another sim card change nothing :/
>> i used fix ime apk (Chamelephon), to enter my ime manually, resolve call/sms but not sure i'm 100% bugless
/ ! \ bluetooth dont work (on slim6 rom, havnt test others)

ho thx for reading XD
i'm desperate XD
after my 2 heavy post, i didn't want to monologue again but i'm still in trouble
the Chamelephon solution half work, i cant send sms. but i recieve, so i've format again for stock french rom, dont work.
i came back on the slim rom (same history with other custom rom, i prefer this one ^^)
sometime i got data connection (can go internet) other times no, but sms is constant, i receive, i dont send. (i've been able to send 1 time at begin dunno why :/)
i've just factory reset :
- bluetooth hard to appair, but i think its just a ****ty bt appairing thing so don't care i think
- pb with chrome to download in "sdcard", but perhaps a bug after many things done on phone
- pb with music app to find music in sdcard, but with an explorer i see them
maui, mtk eng, mtk droid tool, SN Write Tool, tools who seems to not work all on custom rom for me...
So i tried stock us rom, maui worked, i've put back ime (i think) now i kingo-root/recovery and flash slim rom
then i'll certainly have bugs again and test your zip thx !
what the detailed (advanced?) goal(s) of this zip ?

It converts spft flashable files(sec**.img) into recovery flashable zip.
If this works, book a trip for me to France.
heh
quite hot now in france btw ^^
fix done, no change :/
to be short if it can help to understand the mistake :
- got a 4.4 highway stock rom (didnt know but seem to been a v2 with 2gb intern memory and 10gb fake sdcard)
- phone is rooted with kingoroot, i used apk rashr to install phylz v3 recovery for a350
- i install a new rom v3 (slim/resurection/linage for example)
- i got only 2gb memory, no more sdcard, 10gb nowhere.
- i understand the v2 v3 thingie
- i use sp flash tool, to install custom rom (firmware update), same pb
- i use sp flash tool, to format phone (mistake i think), then format + firmware update with stock rom, i got my 12gb memory
- i use kingoroot / rashr / phylz to install custom rom v3, i got my 12gb memory
- i'm happy, but never test for each step the mobile function T-T
- cant phone, error translated : "no mobile band"
- i found the imei problem, yes i dont have imei
- get them back with apk Chamelephon, was looking good, phone, music, bluetooth hard to connect 1st time but ok
- but finally.... cant send sms. T-T
- I try reset factory, dunno if related but then chrome cant find sdcard to download, same for music app.
- wipe again, no more imei, tools to restor imei dont seem to work
- wipe again for us stock rom, maui work, i enter my imei
- still same pb, worst, got 3g icon, but no internet. then got it worked alone sometimes
- kingo root, rashr, phylz, wipe again "for a new rom", slim rom, reboot, sim fix, reboot
- same, no new thingie, dont see if something changed :/ (think the maui imei tool worked good, still have imei, or your fix too dunno)
2 bugs :
>> can't send sms, but i receive, can't find where to put the "mobile sms platform number", i can phone.
>> still got problem with apps who make **** for saving files on "sdcard" (save for example in storage/emulated/0/android/data/com.app.etc/files instead of simply simply storage/app/file or storage/download or storage/image etc :/
sorry for annoying

no, i've put back the official stock rom with the french website exe : http://support-fr.wikomobile.com/update-137-mise-jour-highway
and no more bugs :/
i've re tested to update to rom v3 (perhaps i did something wrong like formatting the 1st time) but still same pb data "!" and no mms
so still on kitkat stock rom, but old version and no space for apps then T-T
