I'm not sure what's going on with my battery life but it's less than five hours... I've had since noon today and it's already been charged once and taken off around 9pm tonight and I'm already down to 55%. Any ideas? I've hardly done anything other than texting and web browsing, all on wifi. I'm also not getting detailed battery stats. See below... Also, how the hell do you take a screenshot other than using screen write? Oh and i never got an update...

I normally hit the left button and close all apps, get ram back up,

Screen shot is power button and home button at the same time momentarily

I keep my bright down to about a 1/4

Yeah that's what it's always been on other phones, but my phone will not do it.
Edit: Guess i want holding it long enough. I just switched back to Android from iOS after 3 years. On the iPhone is instant lol.

did the device reboot into a recovery to install the update? curious is someone dropped the ball and left a open bootloader on the released device OR its just the monthly security patch, prob the latter...
further investigations...it did include a new bootloader. i would hold of on installing this if you want root. you never know

Lol yeah not rooting, leaving it alone

I did not install the update. I just love that they say that ATT wants to install an update and give no more information as to what or why. After my upgrade experience I'm not real trusting and was hoping someone could report what it is. Want to compare?

Sadly, it's probably a bunch of good fixes bundled in with some unwanted bloatware and security "enhancements". Lol
BUT... that's just pure conjecture on my part, as I watch the N7 forums and live vicariously through you all. I'm still happy with my rooted Note 3, can't justify the upgrade cost, can't live without my IR blaster, and so will wait.

So, anyone know whats in the update(is it just the Android Aug security update)? Any chance it really would affect root? For me, the only reason to not root is Samsung Pay and since it doesn't support either one of my cards, not worried about that "feature".

It does contain a new Bootloader, and the update was prob forced upon you. Yesterday my device buzzed in my pocket, heard the ATT ding ding dong sound. Pulled my Note out and it was optimizing apps (about 50 of them). Seems they forced the update to my Note, even though I had clicked "install later" many times through-out the day. bastards!

I believe it's just a security update.

I did not get update. Do you have to have a att simcard in phone to see update.

The only way to keep from downloading an update is to have Wi-Fi turned off or disable the update totally with package disabler pro. The phone automatically downloads any update if you are connected to Wi-Fi and will install it even if you hit install later. The phone does the install after the third time you decline it. All of my Samsung phones have done this.

Okay i sh*t you not, I read this on lunch and said in my head there's no way it forced itself, or maybe it's an option to disable under developer settings. Got off lunch and felt my phone vibrate because it was turning back on. Pulled my phone out and saw that it was optimizing apps and I'm like like wtfffffff out really forced itself. I wasnt on Wi-Fi or anything and my phones battery was at like 30% so i honestly couldn't believe it did the update as such a low battery without asking, crazy. ?

The device is brand new. You can expect battery improvements over the next few days, no matter what you do. It takes 3-7 days of charging and use for the battery to reach maximum efficiency.

[Q] Battery Life after recent software update

Has anyone noticed any significant decrease in battery life after applying the recent update issued by Verizon a couple of days ago? My Fascinates battery life was actually impressing me tremendously before the update, and it seems to have taken quite a big hit since the update. Just wondering if my case is isolated, or if others are seeing the same thing.
How many hours are you getting? My battery life always lasted around 13-15 hours even before the update which is still pretty short imo. I wonder if I have a defective battery. I turn everything off and brightness to the lowest but it's always around 13/14 hours when my phone dies completely.
My battery life has definitely takin a hit...

There's an UNCONFIRMED rumor floating around over on Android Central that Verizon and Samsung have pulled the update due to problems. Again, this is unconfirmed, and just a rumor, and makes NO mention to the reasons why. Perhaps the battery life is a more wide spread issue.

Well, isnt that special.
Took me forever to apply it manually and now it might be borked, great
I didn't really have a problem with the battery life after this update, but I did notice a signifigant loss of speed when going to websites or watching Youtube.
I installed the update by reverting to stock and updating, and then re-rooted and re-applied the lag fix, and of course re-removed bloatware. I can report that I have noticed no difference at all on data transfer performance, and also no battery life issues. In fact, when I got home from work today, I looked at my battery gauge, and it was still at 87%. That's after almost 12 hours of mostly standby time, with gmail, corporate email, and weather services updating regularly. That's actually the best battery life I've seen out of this thing yet. If your battery is draining faster than that, then you must have some kind of process or background service that's not letting the CPU sleep, which will drain your battery fairly quickly. I wouldn't be surprised if the culprit is one of the bloatware apps that I disabled.
On a side note, I still seem to have an issue where the data connection intermittently cuts out. I don't lose the 3G icon, and have plenty of signal, but it's like the connection just times out, and a few seconds later resumes again. I was hoping the radio update in DI01 would address this, but no dice. I'm actually suspicious that it's an issue in the OS itself, as I've seen similar behavior over WiFi, which is a completely separate radio and network interface. I hope it's just a software bug, not a hardware defect. If it persists after the Froyo upgrade, I plan on doing a warranty claim.

You should be able to redo the original root procedure as documented here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=779238
Note that some have reported that they had to do the root procedure twice after installing DI01 to get root access back, though it worked the first time for me.

Yeah I have done it probably 7 times to no avail.... :/
It freezes my phone i believe after it sents the second restart command. it comes up with device not found, even after it says it was successful....
I also tried the original version of this program (i believe), but it is the one I used to root it the first time.
I bought the phone on the 25th and got the update within minutes of leaving the store. I got great battery life the first day but it's been more standard fair so far getting 13-14 hours with moderate usage.
I unplugged my phone about 12 hours ago. I have used it all day for email, text and phone calls and I am right now at 64%. I am getting great battery life with this phone, loads better than my droid 1 and 2.
Reinstall the Samsung drivers. I had to do that and then root was achieved again. I'm an employee of Vzw and haven't heard any rumors of the update being borked. I'll keep y'all posted!

Umm, is it normal for Android OS to be using an insane amount of data?

I was just poking around and noticed this. I have unlimited data so I don't pay so much attention to it.
Nearly 2GB in 12 days. It used 4.19GB in March :| All background data.

Yeah could be the update, I'd turn off all that anonymous reporting of stats as well, but no way does that go into GB territory.
I thought the update was only about 160-something MB? How would that contribute to GIGS of data?
I've noticed, since the update, Android OS is the highest user of battery now. Wonder why

Well I don't mean to blow things out of proportion but... If you're experiencing increased data and battery usage even after the update and while the phone is on standby, if you haven't made any crazy modifications to it since you've gotten it, then chances are your phone is tapped
As far as the steps to untap your phone that's out of my area of expertise. I only believe that may be the culprit because of my years working in cell phone retail. Anytime I experienced a customer with a relatively stock phone experiencing that much usage for little to no use, 8 times out of 10 that persons phone was tapped. We were never really sure who was tapping into their phones we would just assume either crazy exes or spouses since you can easily go to any private investigator and have him tap a phone for you (for a price of course lol)
Best I can recommend is a factory reset followed by immediately encrypting your phone afterwards in case someone is really trying that hard to steal your info
Ummm thats odd! How would someone even tap a cellphone?
Some quick googlefu tells me that this isnt really possible, because the tapping party would need access to my phone and its been fingerprint locked since i unboxed it.

Nah it's not that.
My guess, is it's either Goolgle or T-Mobile pulling our activity from the phone.. even though I have Carrier IQ turned off in settings..

Im sure this has to have a negative battery impact, Android os battery consumption is down after last update but still high. And i dont want anyone pulling any data. :|

Serious battery life problem after update yesterday

So guys, I love my S7 edge, as I'm sure a lot of you do, but after the update yesterday my battery life has taken a serious dive in the wrong direction.
Turns out its the Bluetooth, except I haven't used Bluetooth all day, I've been at work, where I only look at it a few times a day.

Funny thing is, bluetooth was never on.
Damn if restarting or clearing system cache in recovery mode doesn't work you might need to do a factory restore
I was thinking "Oh great, yet another dude complaining about losing 5 minutes of his 8 hour SOT", but I'll admit this is a weird issue, especially if you haven't enabled or used bluetooth at all. Have you checked with a different logger, like Gsam?

Yeah I'm not the type to moan about poor SOT. The battery life on this phone is among the best. But yesterday was just terrible. Seems today it is doing better. Only time will tell.
I also have battery life issues after the APD1 update. Whereas before the phone had no problem lasting 48 hours, now it struggles to last 36 hours (Exynos here). I hate these stupid updates: notification LED is dimmer under most light conditions, battery life now sucks...thanks, Samsung !

How do you backup your apps AND app data without root?
Sent from my SM-G935W8 using Tapatalk
Is your phone at&t?
Here's a thought, I also had pretty "bad" battery life after the previous update, and then it got back to normal after I re-enabled the stock Samsung apps that I had previously disabled, so enable them again and let them be for a day or two and see if you notice any changes. This doesn't apply to your bluetooth issue, but I just thought of this now.

Cool. Thanks for the tip. I've experienced exactly the same thing with this update - was getting about 48hrs with just shy of 6 hours screen on time. I have a long weekend coming up, so I'll see how it goes and then restore if I think it needs it.
I typically use Ultra Power Saving Mode overnight. It lost 13% last night in about 9hrs. I would have been disappointed with anything more than about 2%. So hopefully a reset will fix this because I've been loving the battery mode up to this point!!!!

that backs up the apps, but not the "app data" which is a internally saved to the phone itself.
Basically my "Android System" usage went from 2-3% to 17-19% after this update. On the Exynos. So now the Exynos is now as bad as the SD820 at battery life.
I will reset my phone to factory right now, if this does not solve it (and I highly doubt it) then my only option is to flash the old APC8 firmware (it's possible to do it without rooting, right ?)

The same issue
I have just the same problem . To be honest, I was "5 minutes away" to go the store as my HTC 10 Evo/Bolt is 5 days old only. But if that not "my unique case" then the update may be the reason.
Did you post any info directly to the HTC?
Please stay in touch as I'll do.
Black Screen
I started experiencing the same issue in December, in addition eventually the issue progresses to screen artifacting and flickering. I am on my second phone and about to send that one in for a replacement due to re-occurrence of the issue.
HTC has about a four week turn around time, so beware. If you have really bad issues ask to speak to the escalations supervisor.
Many people are experiencing this issue. Some have gone through 3-4 replacements already with each new one having the same issue. My BOLT only experiences this when I pull it out of my pocket and unlock. Can be fixed temporarily by giving the right hand side of screen a firm tap. Anybody have any ideas on a fix?
I'm on my 3rd phone due to that issue. You just have to exchange it. No way to fix it.
Mine just started jumping around only on the right side has not blacked out yet

My new one is on an old software version 1.15.651.11 and there have been 3 updates since this version. I have not updated yet.

No unusual lagging or screen problems so far I am also unlocked and s off I have flashed bb rom and am currently stock right now between the two I have had I good experience so far I hope htc gets the kinks out because this phone even though has an older processor is a good device.

I too like the phone except for the kinks. I have taken OTA for .15 anc .22 without any issues. Then after about another day it is telling me to update to the new 1.32.651.6. everything is good but i guess i will take the update and hope for the best.
Recently I've been having trouble with the screen staying black with key pad lit on wake on gesture or power button. That may have been caused by my case... But more concerning is the screen flickering. It seems to come about more as the day goes on. When it starts to happen I tried rebooting, and it does it during boot too. I wonder about the longevity of this phone

Here I was thinking my phone would stop doing soft reboots at least 4x a day while also being able to get LTE/4G in the same locations my Note 2 & 3 did.

Trying to get this installed but it seems that it doesn't play well with TWRP.
Also tried installing it manually in TWRP /cache/fota/update.zip but TWRP said the zip is corrupted...

I keep seeing people talking about this reboot problem when 99.9% of the time the solution is so simple. Get a new battery.
I wish it was that simple...

My Note worked perfectly until this recent update. About 2 days after taking the update, my Note started rebooting, lagging, freezing...basically becoming unusable.
I have 4 batteries, and no matter which battery or whether plugged in or not, this happened.
Wake lock app helped but then, yesterday, the phone wouldnt boot. Nothing but black screen. Would not charge with any battery or any combo of cables and chargers.
By playing around with it, I finally got it to boot into recovery, however, there was no recovery. No matter whether I did power up or down, I got download mode.
The firmware repair using the PIT file got me back in action through Odin. It still took half a day to get the phone stable.
Long story short, it's not always the battery. I think these updates cause issues. The web is full of similar cases. My phone has been completely stock and still this happens. Even going back to Android 5.0 didn't cure the software corruption that this latest update caused me. My phone still won't work without the wake lock app.
I was thinking S8Plus but now I'm thinking no more Samsung.

This has nothing to do with the battery. This issue with the Note 4 rebooting is common and no matter which battery you use, the issue continues. I have numerous reason why that is but they seem to do with the MM updates not playing well with the hardware on the Note 4, especially the most recent updates (last 2 or 3). No matter what people try, the issue continues. The Wake Lock app seems to help a bit but this is no long term solution and honestly I don't think Samsung or Google will invest any time in fixing this issue for a device that is over 2 years old. They want people to upgrade.

Does this include stock unmodified and fully OEM phones? My wife's Note 4 started rebooting a lot in the last few days. She has done NOTHING other than standard user stuff. Me? I always mod mine or add an extended battery, but hers straight up the consumer setup, including the original battery.
If the battery, why would a battery cause this? just getting old or is this related to mods or buying after market batteries.

A phone battery (at least these days) isn't like a D battery you put in a flashlight. It communicates with the phone. When it starts to go bad, it can cause things like premature shutdowns and boot loops.
Yes, I've been running 6.0.1 ever since I got it OTA, and have never rooted or loaded a custom ROM since then. Suddenly my phone started shutting down at 40-60%, and often went into a boot loop. The only way I could stop it was to put it on the charger. But as soon as I had it fully charged, it would start giving me problems at 40-60% again.
I bought 2 supposedly Samsung OEM batteries, one from Amazon, and one with the external charger from Sprint. They both fixed the problem, but the Amazon battery sucks. It looks identical to the Sprint, but I suspect it's a clone. It doesn't last nearly as long as the Sprint OEM battery. I bet you can get a battery that is genuine Samsung other than using Sprint, but just beware.
EDIT: Just as an aside, I didn't suspect the battery was the problem at first. The battery started to swell up, which is why I replaced it. It was a lucky thing that replacing it fixed the problems.
Thanks, got one ordered. for $15, it is worth a try!
Or is it a conspiracy! Is Samsung killing our phones, to make us buy new ones? ???
Just my 2 cents. I don't know, but here is a theory.
Everyone i see make a post about rebooting issues always mentions it after taking ota's.
Now my theory, i can only speak for myself. I've never taken an ota, always upgraded through Odin. When i got my phone it was on ob7, i think. And i upgraded it through Odin since. Thank God i haven't had any problems.
So i wonder if it has something to do with Samsung's ota process? Just a thought!

Samsung doesn't run the OTAs, they come from Google servers.
