ASUS Zenfone Max-Rooting-Permission issue - Asus Zenfone Max Questions & Answers

Hello,
I recently purchased a Zenfone Max which contains OS version 6.0. I have tried to root my device by a lot of ways but I am unable to do so..(namely by One-click install and ADB command line).
One thing I came across with the ADB method is that it showed me "permission error" on my phone. I tried running the CMD with Admin rights and even made the app compatibility with RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR for all users. It still does not work.
Could you please let me know the way out for it?

[Q] Rooting GT540

Hello all,
I'm kind of a newbie, but able to follow step-by-step instructions.
I've tried two different methods of rooting my phone, the password method (android.modaco.com/content/lg-gt540-optimus-gt540-modaco-com/310737/how-to-root-your-lg-gt540) and using Z4 Root. I assumed the first one had worked, but somehow not. When I tried with Z4, it installed Super User and gave me the option to "un-root", but testing it in adb and terminal emulator inevitably ended with a "failed to link su CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE" message. Apps like Titanium Backup won't work either. I tried factory reset, and when I restarted it Super User was still there, but when I opened it, it gave a message saying that there was a new su update. I okayed it to install but it failed and said it was placed on the SD card. Super User instructed me to reboot in recovery mode and install it from there, but I wouldn't know what to do with it.
Anyone know where I went wrong, or have a foolproof method of actually getting my phone rooted? Thanks so much!

You obviously know I don't have this phone =], but read something somewhere about Universal Androot from market. I don't know if you got this on my FB or whatnot. GL
Thanks, but same message:
link_image[1638]: 1841 could not load needed library 'libbinder.so' for 'su' (load_library[984]: Library 'libbinder.so' not found)CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE
Titanium backup still cannot acquire privileges. I've tried universal androot now as well.

why don't you upgrade to 2.1 or 2.2
Check whether u have file libbinder.so in ur system/lib folder.
If u don't have
Exatract it from .zip and change the name to libbinder.so then past this folder in system/lib
I am not sure whether it will work or not. it is kind of workaround
Thanks, I ended up unrooting it with z4, doing a factory reset and formatting the sd, and then rerooting with androot and now it works! No idea why it worked this time and not the three or four times before... I guess tenacity pays off. I appreciate the help!!

[Q] Help rooting -- device offline after rageagainstthecage

I'm following instructions given by karnovaran "How to root the Droid 2"
I have a Droid 2 running 2.2 OS, latest SDK, latest Moto drivers. I'm new to Droid 2 but not to windows or linux. After running the instructions rageagainstthecage, waiting to be kicked out, and then issuing "adb kill-server". The following command "adb devices" lists my device as "offline" and not surprising "adb shell" give me the "error: device offline".
The similar threads didn't seem to help. Does anyone have an idea?
Just use z4root. It's no longer on the market but you can download it from its official thread. The Droid 2 works beautifully with it.
Thank You for the quick reply. I will take a look and see if a z4root is a better route to take. I will also watch for other replies. I am as curious as to way rageagainstthecage is not working as I am to complete the rooting process. Has Verison block this application? I'm even more curoius to know why providing something as simple as superuser to a linux OS is so shrouded in voodoo. It may just be something simple I missed but the device goes offline on the phone side and I can not reconnect until it is rebooted.
Well, rageagainstthecage is an exploit that tricks the adb daemon on the phone into running as root instead of setuid'ing to a non-root user. Once that's accomplished you can do pretty much anything through adb such as installing system level packages and changing some system configuration files. Basically all the existing root methods for the Droid 2 use rageagainstthecage to obtain root and then fix the system to allow any user to su to root.
Verizon can't block the exploit because the bug is in the adb daemon which a vendor really shouldn't touch. As for why it might not be working on your phone, rageagainstthecage really relies on what is called a race condition. The exploit has to kill the adb daemon and fork off another process before the adb daemon is restarted. Sometimes it fails to do so.
Really z4root has made most previous methods obsolete. It does the hard work for you.
Thank you for that very fine explaination. I guess I will proceed to z4root now.
Just a last followup.
Z4root worked prefect! I'm rooted, got the SDK connected to Netbeans and the latest moto drivers. Let the games begin.
Thank you again Spitemare
Hi there, I got a similar problem. I downloaded z4root as well but the thing simply quits halfway. No error message appears and the device remains unrooted. What else can I do?

[Q] UK Lg Optimus L3 E400 Rooting Problem

I have searched everywhere and I think this phone is unable to be rooted. I have discovered the UK version of this phone has a locked down bootloader that will not allow me to gain access any way I try. The phone is running Gingerbread 2.3.6, Build No. GRK39F, Kernel Version 2.6.38.6-perf+ and does not have a su.bin on the phone, nor will it allow me access to put one on it. I get permission denied when i try to remount the partition as r/w. When I try to unlock the bootloader, the phone does reboot but not into bootloader mode. This phone only has a hard reset. No other boot modes (just the factory reset). Chmod/chown will not allow me to change permissions. No matter which application I have tried, I am unable to flash anything to the device, since I can not gain root access. The adb root command gives me an error message as well "adbd cannot run as root in production builds." I know I may be a noob, but I have done a ton of research and have not found anything that will help me. Does anyone has any sort of information that will help me root this device? It would be greatly appreciated!
What programs did you use ?

did you try SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse.zip ?
did you try vroot ? in my signature (guide too)
if you install root browser it will install basic commands on your phone busybox sqlite etc
also check this out it might be your firmware does not support root and you might need to install v10b or v10c kdz

Yes, I have tried every app. The apps I use are pretty much irrelevant though, since there isn't a su binary to request permission from. without the su binary, no app can gain root access.

superoneclick does not work as it requests permission from the su binary, which does not exist. root browser does not work either, as it does not allow me to change permissions or ownership either. chmod and chown in linux don't work either. I get "permission denied" when attempting those commands. I an currently running on v10c, but I can not flash anything, including firmware, to this device either. There's no way to downgrade or upgrade. I get a parameter error when attempting to and then the kdz updater crashes and forces itself closed every time I have tried.
My phone model is LG Optimus L3 E400. I could fix this by change the default.prop file ro.secure=1 to ro.secure=0, but I can't write to that file. It's read-only and I can't figure out a way to change that.
I'm really about to just throw this phone out. I had no clue that some phones can not be rooted and would have no further research before buying this one.
try this

I don't know what vroot did, but it actually worked. you don't know how long I have spent trying to get this done. so many other programs told me that rooting was complete and didn't actually do anything, that when vroot did, I didn't believe it. I thought i was just stuck with a p.o.s. that I couldn't customize. I really appreciate your hep. Thank you so much!

Anyone know how to Root ASUS Zenpad 10 (Z300C)?

Hello,
Does anyone know how to root the new ASUS Zenpad 10?
I tried the method for the Zenpad S, Kingo app, DingDong app and Towelroot app none have worked.
Any ideas on how to root this tablet are appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Specs
OS: 5.0 (Lollipop)
CPU: Intel Atom x3-C3200 Quad-Core, 64bit
What about iRoot? Looks like it might have worked for other Intel Atom x3 tablets.

But I sold the Zenpad, I never got a chance to try iRoot. If any one has a Zenpad 10 and would like to try iRoot to confirm if it works or not, that may be good for other people who read this thread.
I've tried iRoot but without success.

Actually, I am with ^, I am wondering if some people are having luck with this tablet. I was thinking about using root for some gaming reasons, but towel root isn't working and there isn't anything like nexus root toolkit, so I think that I am going to screw up the tablet if I do it the old fashioned way because I don't have much knowledge in that area and don't want to mess up my brand new tablet without good reason.

I tried all the four T options, but nothing..recovery choice doesn't matter, if bootloader doesn't accept the flash commands..
Note that I tried also the standard command "fastboot own unlock", just to see if bootloader is unlockable..Fastboot seems to accept the command, but after reboot bootloader still locked.
I tried rooting the device using adb too..the problem is located into the default.prop file, where some parameters don't allow adb to retain or gain root permissions. Those parameters are:
ro.secure=1, which forces adbd daemon to drop its permissions to the standard (shell) user, even if it always starts as super user at the beginning (while if to.secure is set to 0, it allows the adbd daemon to retain root permissions after starting);
ro.debuggable=0, which doesn't allow adb to gain root in production builds using the command "adb root" (if ro.debuggable is set to 1, it allows adb to gain root permission and the subsequent procedure for pushing the su binaries.
No luck at all..neither using the "one click root" tools, like kingo and similars, of course. I'm trying to find some tricks for rooting this baby, I'll update you guys with news, if I find something
Oh, btw, I missed to underline that I'm trying to find a method which doesn't force me to unpack the entire firmware, extract and unpack ramdisk, extract and rewrite the default.prop file, and then repack the whole stuff just to make adb working with root permissions..it is possible, but I consider it as the LAST chance (I'll do it though, if I won't find other ways)

Recently bought Zenpad 10 z300c from China and it has all the chinese apps that i don't want. Nowadays everything is using Google Services and for some reason i can't get it to work, they always crash. So im also looking for way to root it. There is no way to change the firmware without root from CN to WW right? My tablet also goes to fasboot but windows 7 can't find it.

how to root redmi note 7 with linux

Bonjour,
I try to find a clear step by step way to root my redmi note 7. I don't know much about smartphone technics and I have computers under linux only.
Most web sites refer to software working under windows, I don't know how to proceed under linux.
I found some apk like kingroot, kingoroot, towellroot which pretend to root the phone in "one click", but when I want to install them the warning is: "this apk was built for an older version of android and may not work on your phone". My android version is: 10 QKQ1.190910.0002
Thank you for helping.

Hello,
Never use "One Click Root" apps like Kingroot or Kingoroot, it is the worst way of rooting.
If you want to root your device, use Magisk (https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk).
You will need an unlocked bootloader.
But there is no OFFICIAL Mi Unlock app for Linux, so you have to use the UNOFFICIAL XiaomiTool V2 or use Windows and the OFFICIAL MI Unlock app, which will be a better and safer way to unlock the bootloader.
About Magisk installation I can't help, I personally haven't done it on this phone yet, you'll have to find it yourself or wait for others' advice.
Totally agree with DenisCZ. Stay far away from the "one click" solutions! Use Magisk. I believe using adb and fastboot also can be used on Linux but no sure. https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html
Thank you for these answers, I got the XiaomiTool V2 but the process stops on an unknown error (unknown as far as I could see while searching on the web, and this error affects also the windows official Xiaomo tool):
Here is the error message:
procedure failed: [getservice token] missing service token cookie
What is this "service token cookie"?
Thanks to whom could give information!

I tried searching the Internet.
It's probably a Xiaomi Tool V2 bug, so you have to use the official Mi Unlock on WIndows.
