how to root redmi note 7 with linux - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

Bonjour,
I try to find a clear step by step way to root my redmi note 7. I don't know much about smartphone technics and I have computers under linux only.
Most web sites refer to software working under windows, I don't know how to proceed under linux.
I found some apk like kingroot, kingoroot, towellroot which pretend to root the phone in "one click", but when I want to install them the warning is: "this apk was built for an older version of android and may not work on your phone". My android version is: 10 QKQ1.190910.0002
Thank you for helping.

Hello,
Never use "One Click Root" apps like Kingroot or Kingoroot, it is the worst way of rooting.
If you want to root your device, use Magisk (https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk).
You will need an unlocked bootloader.
But there is no OFFICIAL Mi Unlock app for Linux, so you have to use the UNOFFICIAL XiaomiTool V2 or use Windows and the OFFICIAL MI Unlock app, which will be a better and safer way to unlock the bootloader.
About Magisk installation I can't help, I personally haven't done it on this phone yet, you'll have to find it yourself or wait for others' advice.

Totally agree with DenisCZ. Stay far away from the "one click" solutions! Use Magisk. I believe using adb and fastboot also can be used on Linux but no sure. https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html

Thank you for these answers, I got the XiaomiTool V2 but the process stops on an unknown error (unknown as far as I could see while searching on the web, and this error affects also the windows official Xiaomo tool):
Here is the error message:
procedure failed: [getservice token] missing service token cookie
What is this "service token cookie"?
Thanks to whom could give information!
All the best.

I tried searching the Internet.
It's probably a Xiaomi Tool V2 bug, so you have to use the official Mi Unlock on WIndows.

[Q] UK Lg Optimus L3 E400 Rooting Problem

I have searched everywhere and I think this phone is unable to be rooted. I have discovered the UK version of this phone has a locked down bootloader that will not allow me to gain access any way I try. The phone is running Gingerbread 2.3.6, Build No. GRK39F, Kernel Version 2.6.38.6-perf+ and does not have a su.bin on the phone, nor will it allow me access to put one on it. I get permission denied when i try to remount the partition as r/w. When I try to unlock the bootloader, the phone does reboot but not into bootloader mode. This phone only has a hard reset. No other boot modes (just the factory reset). Chmod/chown will not allow me to change permissions. No matter which application I have tried, I am unable to flash anything to the device, since I can not gain root access. The adb root command gives me an error message as well "adbd cannot run as root in production builds." I know I may be a noob, but I have done a ton of research and have not found anything that will help me. Does anyone has any sort of information that will help me root this device? It would be greatly appreciated!
What programs did you use ?

are you trying to just root or flash custom rom too ?
did you try SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse.zip ?
did you try vroot ? in my signature (guide too)
if you install root browser it will install basic commands on your phone busybox sqlite etc
also check this out it might be your firmware does not support root and you might need to install v10b or v10c kdz

Yes, I have tried every app. The apps I use are pretty much irrelevant though, since there isn't a su binary to request permission from. without the su binary, no app can gain root access.

superoneclick does not work as it requests permission from the su binary, which does not exist. root browser does not work either, as it does not allow me to change permissions or ownership either. chmod and chown in linux don't work either. I get "permission denied" when attempting those commands. I an currently running on v10c, but I can not flash anything, including firmware, to this device either. There's no way to downgrade or upgrade. I get a parameter error when attempting to and then the kdz updater crashes and forces itself closed every time I have tried.
My phone model is LG Optimus L3 E400. I could fix this by change the default.prop file ro.secure=1 to ro.secure=0, but I can't write to that file. It's read-only and I can't figure out a way to change that.
I'm really about to just throw this phone out. I had no clue that some phones can not be rooted and would have no further research before buying this one.
try this

you didnt mention vroot was there any error message ?
when you installed root browser on first launch it asks to download little utilities did they install or come with any error ?
also try this super one click 1.7 and select exploit RAGEAGAINSTCAGE in right top corner (it has proven to root problematic e400's)
please update us on your progress
and worst case scenario we will get you to another version of stock and root then

I don't know what vroot did, but it actually worked. you don't know how long I have spent trying to get this done. so many other programs told me that rooting was complete and didn't actually do anything, that when vroot did, I didn't believe it. I thought i was just stuck with a p.o.s. that I couldn't customize. I really appreciate your hep. Thank you so much!

[How To] Downgrade to 4.5.3 so you can root device

Step by step instructional video
Help setting up adb for windows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyJlmTtLsIg
If you are already running Fire OS 4.5.3 and below, all you need to do is follow this video to root: https://youtu.be/KcQ30qcImJc
Steps:
1. Install the Fire OS 5.0 developer preview. EDIT: Do not do this. If you already have a lollypop ROM installed, use that instead of installing dev preview (You could cause a brick)
2. Enable ADB on your device and set up ADB on your computer
3. Download 4.5.3 firmware: https://kindle-fire-updates.s3.amazonaws.com/update-kindle-20.4.5.3_user_453011120.bin (Mirror coming soon. This download works for the Fire HD7 and HD6)
4. connect device to computer and run "adb reboot recovery"
5. use volume keys and power button to navigate to "Apply update from ADB"
6. from computer type "adb sideload update-kindle-20.4.5.3_user_453011120.bin"
7. from tablet select "wipe data/factory reset"
8. from tablet select "reboot system"
9. Complete setup (do not connect to a wifi network yet)
10. Download KingRoot: http://www.kingroot.net/
11. Download JmzFireHDTool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/fir...ool-jmz-fire-hd-7-tool-gapps-disable-t3113655
12. install both apps. "adb install KingRoot-4.1.0.249-release-nolog-201505211812_105001.apk" and "adb install JmzFireHDTool_v4.apk"
13. Temporarily disable otaverify via adb "adb shell pm block com.amazon.otaverifier" (spelled wrong in video)
14. Connect to wifi so that KingRoot can work
15. Open KingRoot on your device
16. press "try to root"
17. re-enable otaverifier "adb shell pm unblock com.amazon.otaverifier" (spelled wrong in video)
18. Open JMZ Fire Tools and press "Disable OTA's"
Note: If you ever need to upgrade back to lollypop, you should follow these steps so you do not brick device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/tools-fire-hd-67-rooting-gapps-t3371242/page4
Awesome find !!! Here is a direct link to the 5.2.0 update file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/lolipop-ota-capture-t3141810
After the downgrade, install TWRP, and upgrade to 4.5.4 but this time with root and fully working GAPPS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/root-v2-0-fireos-4-5-4-gapps-t3150613
http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/how-to-upgrade-to-4-5-4-twrp-root-t3141648
This way one goes directly to SuperSu, and a clean device with no traces of KingRoot.

The tricky part is that the unlocked bootloader still needs a signed kernel. Which is pretty constraining. It'd be interesting to replace the boot preloader, but the risks are high.
Upon boot (if connected to PC), the system flashes MT65xx pre-loader. Which seems to indicate that one could start looking into programs such as "Smart Phone Flash Tool" and "MTK Droid Tools" for MTK chipsets.
Another hope is that the 5.0 version would be sufficiently buggy, such that the bootloader can be made to boot unsigned kernels.

Btw, any chance you could post the direct link to 5.0 preview (for non-developers), since it's probably behind some registration page or something ...
i just signed in with my amazon account, you will need to unroot your fire and reset it as 5.0 is a OTA.

I wish I could find that bin file link... I looked for it but could not find a link to the actual bin file.. If ota's download to the sdcard then It could still be accessed but I don't know where it downloads to. If it downloads to the data dir of the app it would be inaccesable since you need to be on the latest update in order to download the 5.0 version and on the latest version we have no root which means no access to data dir

Despite really wanting root and the possibility of using my already paid for apps from the Play store, I really like the lollipop version of fire os. I do think it's a bit ridiculous they haven't retained the old kindle skin because it's exactly how every real android tablet looks but at this point they should be forced by law to let people use the Play store as they wish. Sort of like how Verizon was once forced to allow tethering without a subscription.

Perfect timing! Lost root last week and hoped for a way to get back. You the man
I wonder if there is a way to stop the update once it's downloaded, in order to grab the 5.0 update bin from /cache.
This would help to re-pack the update in a way that does not re-write key partitions, then one can have TWRP and root on 5.0
It does sound like 5.0 is a nice update, since it provides stock Android. That's what custom ROMs are usually for, but Amazon will give it away !

I was wondering the same. Seems like you could rename the otaverifier apk back to (plain) .apk and get the download but by keeping com...otaverifier blocked it wouldn't install. I'm just not sure these developer updates are handled like any other.

Yes, for me rooting gives a lot as I'm using Xposed modules like Amplify and Greenify and some other nice software, but if you don't find it useful don't do it Read on internet what ROOT gives, it's not useful for everybody, but for me is essential.

Hi guys,
I have been trying to root my device for 2 days, with no success.
I have tried 2 different Windows computers, just to make sure that I wasn't making any mistake with the drivers. The problem is that I never get to see my device when I launch the command "adb devices". Developer option is activated, ADB modeas well, OEM unlocking as well. Driver installed (Google generic one and tried also ZUK USB drivers 1.0.5), I get to see 3 devices in System Properties:
- under portable devices
E:\
Z1
- under ShenQi ADB Devices
android ADB interface
Can anyone suggest what should I do?
I don't get the RSA Authentication authorization request from the device once I plug it in....
Really no idea of what to do. Should I try kingroot?
Thanks in advance

Would recommend uninstalling all previous USB drivers and start again.

You can't brick unlocking the bootloader. You *can* soft brick rooting with a locked bootloader as there is no recovery path if s##t happens. BTW, You can't simply reload FireOS via stock recovery which is crippled. Welcome to the gang plank which you stepped into by using KingOroot.

Sounds like you're in over your head. If the device is working say a blessing and move on.

Sure. But as you noted HDX devices are rather fragile (easy to soft brick; hard to recover) unless unlocked. That was the point of my prior post. If you are not comfortable with the terminology, which is definitely on the more advanced side, and your friend's device is still working it would probably be best to walk away before something bad happens.

I am comfy with the terminology. My point is, there is no tutorial on unlocking bootloader. Unless it's a easy command of fastboot OEM unlock.

These are the two main unlock threads aimed at the general user community. First points to a series of documents that is essentially a tutorial. Second is a 1-click 'do it all' utility provided you have access to a Linux or OS X (Mac) host.

Google released Android 10 — the first Android version to shed its letter and be known simply by a number, with no dessert-themed moniker attached — in September of 2019.
Unlike Pie, Android 10 also includes the traditional Android three-button navigation system as an option on all phones. However, if users who want to block ads or extend the battery life try hard to root their Android. KingoRoot on Windows (PC Version) and KingoRoot APK can easily and efficiently root your Android with both root apk and PC root software.
Steps of Rooting Android 10.0 with KingoRoot APK
While before you root your Android 10.0 you need to prepare your mobile for rooting. Device powered on and keep it enough battery. WiFi recommanded. The following steps will guide you to root your Android 10.
Step 1: Free download KingoRoot APK
The download will be automatically started to your Android. Find it in "Download" on your Android phone. If Chrome has warned you about KingoRoot.apk, click OK to proceed.
Root Android 10.0 device with KingoRoot APK
Step 2: Install the KingoRoot APK and install the apk file. *Note: you may receive this install block message. Take the following steps:
Install Blocked: Settings > Security > Unknown sources > Check the box and allow.
Root Android 10.0 device with KingoRoot
Harmful App: Settings > Security > Verify apps > Uncheck it
Step 3: Click"One Click Root" to use the KingoRoot APK. Make sure the network is stable.
Step 4: Result: success or fail.
You may want to try it several times because KingoRoot.apk will only download one script at a time. After doing all above, if KingoRoot APK still failed to root your Android 10.0 devices, hope you have a try on KingoRoot on Windows (PC Version), which has a much higher success rate for technical reasons.

How do I root my Redmi 3s?

HI, this question has probably been asked many times. But still, I want to root my Redmi 3s (MIUI 10.2.1.0) and all the guides I found are pretty old, they're at least 2 years old and I am not sure if they are still working.
I have already unlocked my bootloader. My touch screen is not working fully so I want to avoid as much trouble as possible. Can anyone guide me or give me link to a sure way of rooting without bootloop problems. I know I ask a lot but I really need it to recover my old files. Thank you.
EDIT : Managed to root it.
