Possible to Root, get MSL, unroot back to stock, and not trip KNOX for future? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

I have tried everything I can to get Sprint to give me the MSL for my phone. I want to get the MSL so I can do the hotspot mod before I upgrade and the upgrade notification pops up every hour.
My goal would be to root, use root program to get MSL since I can't get it using aLogcat or adb anymore, unroot it, then back to stock without tripping KNOX for Samsung Pay.
Thank you,

Idk if that would work but I just used the live chat feature and told them that I accidently did a factory reset and that my phone was requesting a six digit activation code. Then I added that the same thing happened to a friend and the sprint store said that he just needed his msl and they just gave it to me

I have tried calling, I have tried using the live chat, I have called asked for tier 2 and told them my band 41 is out. All they do is ask me to use the ## code in the dial to factory reset and do nothing else. They specifically told me that since I am on contract with them, they can't give me the code to unlock the bands which they would normally walk someone through, which involves them typing in the MSL on their phone. Their proposal was for me to send in the phone to their tech center so they can unlock the band 41 and then they would send it back to me....
****ing Sprint.

Reactivate an old phone on the line. What a few hours, so do it overnight. Reactivate your s7, and you'll get an email with the info when you do. The email will say something like activation code.

I guess my next question is, does rooting your phone and going back to stock trip the KNOX to the point where I can't use Samsung Pay?

If you root your phone and later go back to stock using odin, it should work. My CC doesn't support Samsung pay, but android pay works after going back to stock. People have reported it working when they odin back to stock. Since the root method does not trip Knox, it should be fine. Your phone will return to normal after the second or third boot after you odin

I had rooted and gone back to stock using Odin because of the Samsung Pay thing. Pay works fine once back on stock.

Hands Free Activation boot loop

Running rooted stock MF9
Hands free Activation runs, says it activates, trys to update the PRL. It says it fails and that device will restart. Reboots and does the same thing. How can I break this?
I can't make phone calls or receive texts. I tried a factory reset, still doing it.
Any help?

Not sure if this will help, but I found this on Sprint's website:
Manual programming
Only use manual programming if both hands free activation and one touch programming did not complete successfully on your Samsung Galaxy S®4.
Manually programming your device requires a 6-digit programming code and a 10-digit MSID. If your device was activated via www.sprint.com/activate, these codes may be found in the phone activation confirmation email or on the programming instructions page displayed after the activation was processed.
If this is a new line of service or you don't have these codes, make an appointment at a nearby Sprint store for assistance getting your device programmed.
From the home screen, tap Phone.
Dial ## followed by the 6-digit programming code followed by #. For example, ##123456#.
Tap Edit.
Tap MDN.
Enter the 10-digit phone number (MDN).
Tap OK.
Tap MSID.
Enter the 10-digit MSID.
Tap OK.
Tap the Back key.
Tap Done.
Your device restarts.
From the home screen, tap Apps.
Scroll to and tap Settings.
Tap More.
Scroll to and tap System Update.
Tap Update Profile.
After the update is complete, tap OK.
You've now completed manual programming.

I activated my phone at a Sams Cub, so SOL on that front. I'm gonna Odin complete stock tomorrow, and take it to the sprint store.
I didn't even do anything to the phone. Forgot to plug it in last night, and put it on the charger in the morning and it was doing that.

it always comes out "HANDS FREE ACTIVATION" and is not activated .. like I can erase that since I do not live in United States ..
or could activate it from my house (Chile) ... I hope to help please ..
have kind of the same problem with my htc m8 for sprint i already root it and it sads hands free activation then check for prl said success then the phone restarts then does the same thing over and over and over
One thing that SHOULD solve this is manually inputting your MDN and MIN in some kind of CDMA tool. If you've done a ##72786# or if the phone somehow freaked out and did it, you're going to need the carrier partition from another L720 to load onto yours. Sorry, the answers aren't quite "easy"

[Q] My Note 3 is Locked at Samsung Account Screen. Plz Help!

Hi Guys, Today I purchased a used Note 3 LTE. Before paying, I checked everything, phone is basically brand new, used 2 hours. Unsurprisingly before handing me the phone, the seller factory reset, so he could erase his data. Now, I came home and I'm stuck on the Samsung Account login screen and it's not giving me any option to skip. It's a UAE version Note3, so I know it's not region locked. I called the seller and he says he does not remember the password. I've used a lot of Android phones and this is new to me. I also factory reset and wipe cache the phone, but no luck!
The reactivation lock was turned on by the guy that activated 1st u need to ask him to unlock u by giving u is samsung login.

What is reactivation lock? I've Galaxy S4 as my daily driver, is this in the settings?
Yeah so find the guy he stole it from and ask if he wouldn't mind sharing his samsung password. :good:

He seemed like a nice guy and plus he gave me authentic invoice, so I doubt the phone is stolen. How did he manage to lock the phone? He factory reset the phone right in front of me.
Under the setting security there is a reactivation lock option and he turned it on. This requires samsung account to reactivate it after a reset. Is normal account from samsung the one he uses to download apps from the Samsung hub is the one u need.

That's the option that was activated also need a password for it to be saved as active. Try and contact him again and explain that is the Samsung account.

He answers most of my calls, and I tried 3-4 passwords he gave me, but none of them work. He says the phone was impulse buy and he created Samsung account in a rush. This activation lock option is not there in my S4, nor it was there on my S3, is this new feature of Note3? Do I've another solution? Perhaps flashing the stock firmware.

Ask your seller to get the password from Samsung using lost password request.. If should be working if you input correct account information.
No its no in my s4 just on note 3. Just ask him to try and recovery it or take the phone back. Don't know if samsung kies will allow u to install the firmware locked but try.

try to enter ODIN mode and reflash stock rom! I think atm no-one knows how deep the integration of this security feature goes... so maybe this resets this totally! if not, flash cwm6 in odin and try to wipe /system, /data, /preload, /cache) before flashing stock again! attention: by flashing cwm you perhaps lose official warranty, because of an increased counter, and KNOX warranty void! perhaps chainfire will be able to sort this out, but I do not have any progress information!

Yeah this is like what iOS7 requires now as well. Apple login before you can restore/reflash the phone. Samsung's just ask for it after (which IMO is silly).

reactivate lock may cause issued, better turn it off when rooting phone and won't be bother turn it on after root as well.

I cannot bypass the samsung login screen...Is there any way to bypass that ?? I tried to install custom recovery and firmware from ODIN as well but failed..I need to deactivate reactivation lock
you will need to ask the previous owner to login to the phone and deactivate this

I dont know who the owner is coz i bought it from local shop at cheaper rate thinking I would reset firmware from ODIN and that would go away..But all things Ive tried failed..
the feature is to prevent stolen ph for being revived and used...if you dun have that then its a piece of paper weight that you have now

Take it back to the local shop.
It's a "security feature" to stop stolen phones being used.
The shop should have ensured it was turned off before they purchased it.
There is no way to unlock it without the Samsung account that the phone is linked to.

First of all I have to say that I've created this account just to share what I did with this problem. It took me, after doing dozens of hard reset and flashing firmwares, 10 minutes. Maybe, the seller never activated the phone (that's what happened to me) and this screen is appearing by mistake. So what you have to do if this is your case is to connect the headphones that came with the phone and press the button for 1-2 sec. Then the SVoice will apear and there you can use voice commands. So you just say "Start Settings" and it will open the setting where you have to activate the reactivation lock (maybe isn't necessary, but that way worked) but this time using your samsung account. Then you just have to do a factory reset (from the settings, not from the recovery) and your phone will be unlocked. It will restart and then you can set it up normally. Hope this works for you as it do for me.

Wi-Fi Calling

Wi-Fi Calling is not working at all on my stock s7. Is anyone else experiencing this? Getting enablement error. Spoke with sprint tech support who is stumped and now escalating up to higher level team.
Rest of phone (including wifi and hotspot/tethering) working as it should.
Saw one post about disabling Bluetooth and BT share. tried that with no improvement.
-Josh
What kind of testing would help?
I have never used this before, so keep it simple, lol
I have the same problem. . They told me, after escalating, that it was am account code error. . I am trying now to enable. . Update it works now after whatever account coding they updated

I didn't have any problem with the Airrave and my S5 using Wi-Fi calling.
I think I had to do that sometimes because the phone was trying to use both or maybe just to eliminate that possibility
Anyone have a solution for broken Wifi calling. I tried everything I could find including calling Sprint. Running the latest Sprint S7 update, was working before the phone updated. Really not looking forward to do a hard reset.
It's a problem with the data code on your account. Will need tech suport to fix. They are having issues with s7 not carrying code over correctly.
Thanks for the feedback, do you mean my Data plan is not correctly assigned to my phone. Ill probably have to hold the Sprint tech supports hand to get it going.
No its the actual billing codes for your account and how wifi is coded on it.
No luck, was on the phone with Sprint for almost an hour. They made a Ticket, said said I needed to take my phone to a repair center
I have to tell you after the security update it reset my pattern lock and i ended up with factory reset because the Samsung website unlock feature isn't set up for the s7. Had to use Google website and my Google account to restet. Good luck

I know what you mean. Luckily I had fingerprint unlock working cause my pin unlock broke after the update. Hoping for a work around cause I got my phone setup just right. Is there a backup I can do that will restore everything exactly the way I have it now (except Wifi calling of course)? I had titanium backup years ago but it was a pain back then.
WiFi Calling
I have the same issue with my S7 with the enablement error. I have been on the phone with Sprint for over 1 hr with no help - they state it is a Samsung software issue. I went back to Best Buy where I got the phone and exchanged it but still the same problem. I took it to the Samsung reps who were there and they also were stumped. I reached out to "advanced tech Sprint support" who stated its a Samsung issue and will not be fixed until they release a patch. I reached out to Samsung and they stated they were not aware of any issues and to send the phone to their repair center - which made no sense. I see online that some have no issues doing wifi calling so it may be luck of the draw. I think that Sprint will blame Samsung who in return will say no issue. I am going to try to exchange the phone again and hope the third time works!
Did you try a hard reset?
Check wifi calling doesn't support messaging at this time..

It only recognized my fingerprint a couple times then after power off it wouldn't. Also found out find my mobile isn't set up by Samsung for s7 yet, if ever. . I use nova launcher which allows you to save your homescreen and widget and folder setup. I use helium to back up apps and data. Restore was only really annoying not horrifically annoying. Don't forget to back up your Samsung account settings and take your sd card before you go the Google reset route. . The most help I got was the Samsung rep at best buy

Thank you, that's a lot of great information.
I had 4 reps tell me to bring it to store for repair, did hard reset etc.... got up to advanced tech support before guy called me and said "fixed the problem, go ahead and try"and worked fine after that.

FRP....OH NO!!!!

Well...Making a long story short, a grandchild of mine played with the lockscreen on my Verizon S7 edge. And you know whats coming....a password was set, a password was forgotten, and a phone was reset. Now, Google's FRP lock is in action, and no matter what I do I can't get around it. My Google account information doesn't work on the phone now. I have searched for and tried everything to get around this, including using Odin to flash stock firmware using the method and firmware files here....<< Stock Firmware For Your Verizon S7 Edge and Quick Guide>> By Misterxtc, Recognized Contributor on 24th March 2016, 04:04 PM.
I guess I have a really nice looking paperweight, but maybe someone here has an idea? Another firmware? A backup someone is willing to share that may get me back into the phone? Anything????

Can you change your password with Device Manafer?

This sounds a bit sketchy. FRP only requires you to sign into the phone with the original Gmail account that the phone was set up with. That's it. So do you not know your Gmail account password that you used to set up the phone? Or did you change actual Gmail password first and then try setting up the phone within 72 hours of changing your account password? Something isn't making much sense. If you can log into your Google account on your computer, then you can log into it on your phone...

This thing is there to prevent the phone being stolen and sold off to someone else. It's obviously imperative that your account details be noted in the event of this and/or OEM Unlock be selected in Developer Options.
I had this happen to me a week or so back, I was messing around with the phone trying to get ADB to authorise on my laptop, and somehow I must have disabled the OEM unlock. Next reboot, it refused point blank to boot into either Android or recovery (which was TWRP). Fortunately, I knew my Google credentials so I simply flashed stock, booted, logged into my Google account when it asked (after it made clear the phone wouldn't work if I didn't), turn OEM Unlock back on, flashed TWRP again and restored my Nandroid backup from a few days earlier. Crisis over. Obviously, without those credentials you potentially have a serious problem.
However, as suggested, contact Google. Providing you can prove you are the holder of the account (and I assume you can), then I imagine there would be ways around this. I'm also unsure why you mention the lockscreen. It has nothing to do with that. FRP lock is entirely down to the Google account on the phone when the FRP lock occurs.

My FRP method this:
Phone G935A, used Firmware G935U (not AT&T bloatware)
Insert prepaid sim 0$, and 0mb internet, but LTE network...
Personalise phone start, and wifi not turn on. Google verification fail, and NEXT button active...
Personalise finish, and turn dev.opt on, oem unlock on, and add the google account.

No, don't contact google. No don't bother with any of this bypass crap.
Contact samsung. Tell them you are the owner of the device and would like to get it unlocked. They will ask for a very detailed list of information to prove you are the owner of the device. Once they get this information from you they will send you an email and a Pre Paid label to mail it to them. Samsung will unlock it and mail it back to you.
Source: I work for a company who terminated an employee who had this protection enabled. This is what Samsung had me do.
i can do in 10 mints without contacting samsung via flexihub
Information is listed all over this forum on how to overcome this dude just research.

Hmm - Saumsung WOULD NOT reset my phone. I have a $200 Boat Anchor?
After 2 support "cases" closed with no notification to my *other* phone or my email, Samsung did send a shipping label, and I sent the phone. Upon arrival at their service center, they proposed a fee of about $70 to perform the re-initialization. I paid the fee with delight. They next advised me that they won't do the job. Perhaps it was because the phone is 8 months "out of warranty".
They did not dispute the validity of my purchase transaction. If this is their idea of "Support", I will not buy another Samsung phone again. Closing support incidents without notification to the problem reporter is garbage, and billing before refusing to do the work is worse than garbage.

No service with Sprint phone?

I was late on my bill for a short period and my Sprint service was turned off. I went and paid my bill on Friday and my service was restored but only my data was working for some reason. Anyway i just dealt with it for a bit since I was at work but I decided to do some stuff to try and get it working, updating profile, firmware, PRL. Nothing got my service working again. So I looked into some dialer codes and tried things like ##update#, ##scrtn#, ##clear#. The ##rtn# menu shows mobile number unknown and MSID/ISMI is also unknown. The thing is, after I did ##update# and all that my service became spotty until it slowly stopped working. I reflashed stock ROM, AOSP based ROMs, kernels, nothing seems to be working. I called Sprint and asked and they said everything on their end was ok and it's a problem with my phone. But I'm rooted and all that so my warranty has been voided and I'm afraid of going into the store to get a replacement, everything else on the phone works except service. If I try to make a phone call I get a message that says "Sorry, your phone is not yet activated. Press end and dial customer service" but if I call customer service it says my phone can't dial the number. Texts just don't even go through they just send forever until they fail. I have no idea what's wrong with my phone and I'm looking to see if anyone can help me out. Thanks in advance for any responses I get. I'll edit this post with the solution if I get something working.
