Why I switched back to KK - Xperia Z3 Compact General

Hi..after a month using LP and MM, i went back to Kitkat. Here's my review. Btw i think MM is worse than LP in many aspect, so I just want to review LP.
LP Rom :
1. Camera seems to be noisier a bit (maybe)
2. Dragging notif bar is painful. Sometimes lags. Reaching the quick settings is painful (double drag). I know that we can use two finger drag, but usually lags, and takes a lot of effort.
3. Animation is slow, thus slowing down my performance when using the phone. When we adjust the animation speed, it looks ugly because it comes from bottom.
4. Phone heats more. For example, watching Youtube for 15 minutes caused heat around 55-60C in LP, while in KK is really normal (around 40-45C). For many other activities, KK never reach a hot temperature that caused not comfortable to hold.
5. BATTERY LIFE! I usually get 40% after the whole day (KK), while in LP usually 20-25%. This is really noticeable.
6. Restarting phone is a pain, took a long time in LP
7. Many problem with Xposed. Usually, when a module conflicts with the other, it bootloops. For example, the same "center clock in status bar" setting in GravityBox and Serajr Xperia caused bootloop. Whereas in KK, never had bootloop with xposed.
8. Stupid setting app layout, too big spaces
9. Stupid recent apps layout, ugly as hell, and difficult to reach previous apps
10. Apps more often got closed, maybe because of LP need more RAM. For example, Whatsapp, many times, notifications come late. I even already set Whatsapp priority to foreground (using AppSettings xposed), but still same.
Who to blame? Sony or Google, for providing a bad OS?

I pretty much agree with everything you've outlined. I just wish KK had a good camera mod.

You should be blamed not the vendors. I get with LP and MM 6 hours screen on time, never have lags and the phone is cool in any situation. So the mistake is on you because you can't configure youre system right. I have Root and Xposed and never had a bootloop everything works fine.
LP is a bit stuttering with the animations but MM is out who uses LP? MM is butterly smooth

Kitkat was the last good Android build, after Jelly Bean 4.1.2. L was a piece of fancy "Material designed" crap, for M they just smeared it around a bit.

I have to diagree. I've tried LP in many different phones, (of course i mean the old models, phones that doesn't come initially with LP). LG g2, g3, sony z3, samsung A5, S4.
I've found quite similar problems.
I don't think that i missed something. I eliminated all wakelock problems.
Maybe LP is not well optimized for these old models.

Would you mind sharing what ROM/BUILD of MM are you using? And under what kind of usage you get 6 hour SOT (Gaming, texting, videos, etc). Thanks.

Though I haven't had any of the lag issues you've experienced, nor has my camera quality changed, but I agree that KitKat is the over-all better OS version. It had better battery life, a less cartoon-like UI, and seemed to play more nicely with Xposed modules.
Do you have a review for MM that you can share as well? I haven't upgraded to MM yet because of all the bugs I see listed in the Bug thread. I remember when LP was first released, it took a couple of smaller updates a few months later to finally get it working smoothly. I assume MM will have to go through the same bug-fixing process as well before I'd be willing to upgrade. By then, I may just jump straight to N, (or back to KK if it sucks too).

Hi just wondering if this is easy to do I have just got the z3 and find it soo buggy I'd like to downgrade do I have to get root access and any idea where I can get the firmware for kk UK
Much appreciated

Hi.. this is the firmware for z3 d6603 (I haven't check but it should be okay) http://4upld.com/2bVql
Flash it using flashtool http://www.flashtool.net/index.php using flashmode.
Open flashtool, choose flashmode, pick the ftf file, turn off the device, hold volume down, connect it to PC.

Well it depends on how you use your phone and how heavy task its being taken. I don't find any issues right now with my MM as i'm using a custom rom right now (see my signature). It's a really good ROM IMO and its always updated. Although i'm having a problem right now with my navbar as its hard to tap the soft keys, but by the help of gravity box i fixed it by raising the navbar's height.
You should consider always that not every phone can cope up whatever you are doing. If you haven't tried the ROM that i'm using right now, give it a chance and let me know if MM is still sucks.

Since this is XDA, we all assume that any problems with the stock ROM can be fixed by rooting and custom ROMs. But I don't believe that is the point of this thread. The OP is comparing the stock Sony ROMs from KK, LP, and MM and has concluded that the KK version offers the best combination of stability and performance.

I loved the KK UI.... so elegant!

I have had no problems on MM nor on LP! Everything was rock solid! Running SLiMM 2.5 right now and it is amazing! Very fast and amazing battery(about 5h SoT) and I am a power user so very amazing!
And never had problems with Xposed modules before, but one day I will give KitKat a shot to see if it really is a massive difference.

Of course. I use this phone heavily. I don't play any games but at least 4 full hours of the SOT are from the Facebook App, as I was really bored this day I watch many youtube videos, use facebook really really often and write messages with whatsapp, read news etc. I use this phone really much.

My Rom is SliMM Rom 2.4 with Android 6.0.1. My phone is rooted and I use Greenify. No Stamina mode enabled (it activates itself at last 20% of battery (screenshot)). There is a gap in the battery usage graphic because I shutted down my phone at night. But I lose maximum 1-2% per night and 2% just if it's a bad day
So please do not blame Marshmallow you see I got easily 6 hours SOT and have 16% left. With other usage pattern than mine there are maybe 7-8 hours possbile.

Custom ROMs are not a proper comparison, but thanks for your feedback.

You're right, they are not, but it is still a stock based ROM, which is further optimized for a better usage experience.
These are my best on LP (Slim LP) up to date, and you can see the average figures down below. KK could beat this with less tweaking surely, but it still wouldn't be bare stock ROM.
My point is that people shouldn't be afraid of using customised stock ROM, why is that bad? On the contrary, it's good.

I love ROMs and all the goodies that come with root access; however, this thread is just comparing stock ROMs. The added variables that come with custom ROMs makes it impossible to compare performance and bugs between KK, LP, and MM.

Xperia SP after long, able to get, new update from Sony . Previous updates the device that was very disappointing , too much criticism along. Bugs and flaws in the basic version of Android 4.3 has caused many users will not even go back to android 4.1 to android 4.3 Survival prefer .
With all these updates graduate 2 april 2014 Sony finally released this device . Many of the problems in the previous version of the update is completely dissolved . Although too early to talk about the general objection to this ROM, but some changes are fully seen until this moment, it's time.
- Improved Speed: This version is the first thing seen, the high speed of the device after the update. However, if in the coming days, as well as firmware version before it slowed and no speed loss!
- Improved battery consumption: power consumption and energy consumption per unit is much improved in this version perfectly optimized.
- LED effect in solving the problem Walkman: One of the most attractive features of the Xperia SP, beautiful LED effects when playing music, but unfortunately this feature the Android 4.3 update will be somewhat difficult. Fortunately, this problem has been fixed in this version as well.
- Free Space Ram: In previous versions, you will also be faced with a shortage of RAM space. This version is somewhat optimized RAM machine in normal mode, users will be more than 300 MB of available space. Of course it also depends on user requirements and applications installed on the device will be.
- Hot issue the device: the problem also existed in the previous version have been largely resolved. Hot issue over the phone, some users were facing, as well as the update will fix it.
The above experiences only a few hours we had this version . If you 've received the update and change yourself and let us know . :fingers-crossed:
does bravia engine works
Special Thanks to @willverduzco for note this review in XDA-Portal
To add my 2p worth, having been trying CM 10.2, PAC-man, AOKP since the dire release that was 266 I thought id try out Sony's latest effort and I have to say im not impressed. It is better than the 266 release but 201 still has problems, the screen flickering even if only occasionally is a pain, and the lagginess the system gets is still present even if it is improved over the initial 4.3 release.
The camera is still extremely slow to load from the lockscreen or when unlocked, compared to CM's camera this is truly abysmal if you want to capture something quickly. Also I found some apps reporting my SD card twice so my gallery of choice (QuickPic) showed two lots of every photo.
For those who dont want to try anything else than stock id say this release is worth going to if you have 4.3 but stick with 4.1.2 otherwise. For anyone else try CM10.2 or AOKP, both are far more customisable, user friendly and they just work tons faster than Sony's efforts. Plus you can get many of Sony's apps to install on them anyway so wont miss out on the features.
I think this one is better than the existing unofficial CM roms. Tried them but somehow. after some tests this one is still more stable. But thats only my own opinion.

BE2 doesn't work in album app since there's no be_album file after update yet.... I think that is stupid, but well, I'm actually satisfied with the bug fix, the few bugs I has with .260 are gone now, and I don't even need a wipe yay! xD
My review:
1. RAM management: the same as before ....just like in 4.1.2 and in .266. So in other words Real Racing 3 still crashes randomly...
2. Battery life: I have no ideea . It's been just over a day since the update hit and everyone who says it's better or worse is just under some sort of placebo efect. My guess is battery life is as good as it was in 4.1.2 and in .266
3. Walkman LED effect: SOLVED , but I could not care less about this.
4. Improved Speed ?!!?! Again some people had too much placebo for dinner .266 was running really nice for me , just like 4.1.2 , I had no complaints in this departement
5. Camera : My XPERIA NEO still takes much better pics than the SP
6. Overheat: In that one race I played before Real RAcing 3 crashed my phone did not seem that hot ....so maybe it's not running as hot as before in full load.Further tests may be needed.
The Led is still not.dancing for me when on max volume :/

There is most definitely improved speed compared to .266. ram management has been improved. Battery life has also definitely being improved.
MY REVIEW:
Lay off the 'shrooms brah.
I am using 201 firmware, any suggestion guys on how to increase the available ram?

Better than stock but still a little buggy
I did see the flickering issue with both 4.1.2 and 4.3 but it is easily resolved by turning off adaptive light in the brightness settings.
biggest problem for me with 4.3 is PPTP VPN is broken and looking at other forum posts this seems to have been broken since .266
UI is definately smoother but still not perfect, i have seen a big improvement to the camera.

Increasing "free RAM" per se doesn't benefit much.. much of it is used for cache (in ram). See "show cached processes"-all of those are in reported 'free ram'. In other words, "free ram" is not wasted in Android. If an app needs ram, android automatically shuts down apps in memory.
Actual physical unused free ram is very little..Type this command in a terminal to see:
cat /proc/meminfo

Just a comment regarding RR3, I dont how my setup defers from yours. But mine is perfectly working. No more crashes, graphics is so smoth now. I've been playing this game way back when I still have my galaxy w. But with this rom, im trully satisfied.
Edit: im rooted and using greenify

Agree that it helps very little (on .201)...
I use 3 prongs attack to manage rams. After checking what process is running, I:
Use SD Maid to stop "autostart" for appz I don't need. I was surprised to find officesuite (and a few others) "autostart"
I use Titanium to freeze (and ultimately uninstall appz I don't need, after backing up). eg I don't need "calendar" as I prefer 3rd party's, so i uninstall it (could not uninstall 'calendar storage" as the 3rd party appz needs it)
Greenify those that lives in the background (titanium, root explorer, etc)
As of this writing I have between 200~300MB free despite the above. I am on Purexperience Sirius Rom.
I got more when I was on .254. Nonetheless there is no lag with the system and I think it is more than enough for my purpose.

You have answered your own question: you are rooted and using greenify. I know there are lots of ways you can improve ram management , but this is a review of the stock rom without any outside intervention.I don't use any of those ways because I don't even play RR3 any more , I just use it as an ultimate benchmark. The graphics and the speed were allways flawless ,but the crashes are allways there with this game. The only other crashes I encountered in 4.1.2 and .266 were with antutu witch seem to be gone(ran it twice with no crash and got ~23000 )
Don't get me wrong , I like how the phone works after this update , but I never was that dissapointed with .266.
When i was using the .266 firmware, there was an update for walkman but after receiving .201, my walkman has downgraded. Why is that?

I'd like to tell you guys to be happy with this bug fixed version of 4.3. Because, kit kat sucks and is MUCH slower than 4.3. There are SD card restrictions too on kit kat.

nice review. i think i should upgrade to kitkat anyway :victory:
The Resurrection Remix has also evolved quite well. Do check it out too.
For a sammy rom
The last few days I've been using wizzedkat. Sammy rom from the S5 and I'm really happy with it. Straight stock and even includes samsung apps!
It's kind of retro and future all at the same time (Samsung stock and kitkat together).

I think you should be careful and state which variant the ROM is for. Hellkat isn't available for i9100 international AFAIK. Most people assume automatically that's what variant it is for by posting in GSII General, and may flash it on an i9100 based on that (stupid) assumption.
+1

From my experience, RR 5.0.8 (with Dorimanx kernel) is doing quite well and is very stable. It offers tons of customizations.
Some of the issues I am facing are:
a) The display turns on with the caller identity 3 secs after the phone starts ringing.
b) Gallery and Music player not detecting pics and songs from the memory card.
Hopefully, these will be addressed in the next version.
Past: beanstalk
Coming from jb I found that this one had the best customizations ever. Most of the things worked superbly, and the performance and battery time were really high too. Faced 2 issues though -
1. Google keyboard didn't work. So used touchpal coz I really loved the ROM at that time.
2. When plugged on for charging, phone will go entirely crazy. Won't respond properly to touches, unlocks, notifications and esp swype will just die. The moment it's unplugged of the charger, it's back to normal.
The 2nd bug was quite an issue so I moved to pacman ROM. It didn't have halo but smoothness and customizations are on high here. Was quite happy with it but after few days of normal usage started showing the same phone-going-crazy-while-charging issue.
I have tested 2 kitkat ROMs so far. Wanted to know whether it's a kk bug or ROM bug?
And yeah, all the installations were completely clean.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
new roms added..WIP so all roms gonna be updated..im testing now some and newer versions released.:good:
Kitkat Rom #3/4:
SlimKat/SlimSaber -Found both of them very similar.
As the name suggests its really slim. Without any apps installed from my side the rom takes only 350 MB Ram which leaves a lot of room available.
1. Camera works fine.
2. So does the music player.
3. Low on customizations (compared to other ROMs) e.g. other KK roms have a lot of lock screen, navigation bar etc customizations which were not found here.
4. A very simple file explorer.
5. Simple, Neat & Elegant.
6. No inbuilt Screen recorder
7. No performance controls like other ROMs.
Though i found the same issue I had with my previous KK roms i.e. phone-going-crazy-and-laggy-while-charging so did not keep it for a long time. And hence wont be able to comment anything on battery stats.
I will still recommend it to the lite users but people who look for customizations and performance control features from ROM, will have to keep looking.
Also, I forgot to mention that on all the KK roms I have seen, gameplay was laggy. I dont play any heavy games, it was just temple run 2.
Kitkat Rom #5:
OMNI rom:
1. Quite smooth
2. Had a lot of customizations (more than slim roms and less than pacman/beanstalk/carbon etc)
3. Looked good and stable
4. Did not keep it for a long time so cant comment on battery life.
5. Had I seen it earlier I am sure I would be on it for a long time but I am accustomed to high customizations now so moving on.
6. Was a little higher on RAM usage (towards 500 Mb without any apps installed from my side)
Kitkat Rom #6:
Carbon ROM:
1. Beautiful & Sleek UI.
2. Carbon fibers i.e. really good customizations/options.
3. little higher on RAM usage (towards 500 Mb without any apps installed from my side)
4. Had to uninstall it in an hour itself as it became quite laggy and started giving me "unfortunately, **** has stopped working" messages for a lot of applications. Even whatsapp was force closing.
So all this charade, and I am back to Beanstalk (22/12/2013 build) now and I dont think I want to try more. Will have to live with laggy gameplay and response-issues-while-charging if I want KK i guess.
What about CM 11 ?
I think the CM11 Linaro/SaberMod Version by Markox89 is also worth a mention. It feels very stable and I have the feeling, that battery life (with the supplied kernel) is also better compared to the (un)official CM11 nightlies.

Of all the roms I have tried so far, beanstalk was the best. I feel your happiness dude
But due to few annoying bugs I had to start the journey of experiments all over again.

Nexus 4 to LG G2

Hello all
I'm currently running a nexus 4. My provider is offering a very cheap price on a G2. If u was to take it I'm sure I'd go straight to CM11.
I have a few questions.
1. My main issue with the N4 is the battery life. How is it on cm11 with the G2?
2. How active are the the devs for the G2? Is this phone likely to be well supported for at least another year?
3. The other issue for me is the lack of qi charging on the European edition. Is there any decent cases that get around this?
4. What other ROMs should I look at other than CM11?
5. How is the screen quality over the N4's screen?
Thank you everyone for your valued input!
Steve

Well I have stock g2 so I cant answer questions concerning cm11.. Atleast on stock, battery life is way better than stock nexus 4 (i had n4) and screen quality is way better!

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure I could stick with the stock ROM I like the vanilla android experience personally.
What are the pros of the stock ROM?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Free mobile app
I had N4 before I got the G2.
1st, Iv'e always been a fan of stock android. Even though I had lots of samsung phones, I always envied people who have Nexus devices and are satisfied with the crappy hardware Nexus devices always had. Always some compromise with them.
When I got the G2, I discovered, I don't give a s*** about Vanilla anymore, I don't care when updates arrive, I don't care for battery saving apps.
The G2 is fast,
The UI is far superior in functionality to Vanilla
The battery, omg, is awesome.
And the Screen - Slim Bezels, super bright, low energy consuming, wide angles, just pure joy.
I'd say get the G3
But if you can only afford/get the G2 - It's pure joy. I never tried CM or CM-Based on my G2.
I had only 2 roms on it. Stock, and now Kitkat, rooted for Xposed and that's enough for me.
On my Galaxy S devices I had all sort of CM Slimkat Slimbean Paranoid etc seeking some good battery and fast UI.
The G2 rids you of all the searching. You just use it.
Even greenify is almost useless on it. But I use it cause I can.
I use root for Greenify, Call Rec via Xposed, Replaced camera app with one from XDA because the Stock sucks A***.

I got a g2 recently after cracking my Newxus screen.
The battery life on G2 will astound you. All the hangers on in threads like Franco claiming they get 5-6 hours of battery life with normal use are dispelled. The battery in the g2 will show you what it's like to actually have good battery life and be able to use your phone.
The dev community for this phone is no where near the Nexus community, it's the Nexus of course it will have a more active dev community(even though many things like Franco Kernel and others have fell off as the community moved to the Nexus 5). It is existent though you can check for yourself, not something you need to ask. There are kernels, PA port etc.
For g2 I'd honestly recommend staying away from CM and keeping one of the variants of the stock rom. It's not worth giving up the camera, potentially knock on Code(double tap to wake), Knock code, etc. I'd recommend many of the varients of cloudy rom Cloudystock(stock rom) Cloudy flex(port of g flex) or CloudyPro, or many people like Mahdi rom.
Screen quality is better than the N4 in almost every way.
<Edit> I'd get the g3 if you can wait and have the money, but if you're getting the g2 it will be better than your nexus in every way possible.
Does the Google now launcher run well on the stock ROM? If so I could probably live with the stock ROM.

I came from N4, too, and agree with what has been said above: stock LG ROM with root and Xposed G2 TweakBox = killer combo!
I must confess that from time to time I flash a CM, PA or SlimKat ROM, but so far none of AOSP alternative is stable and perform as well as the solution above.
Can't comment on Google Now Launcher, sorry, as I use Apex.
Yes the Google now launcher runs extremely well for me it's what I use daily and have never experienced any lag or stutter I'm using stock rom with xposed and a custom kernel also my experience with aosp / pa ect was it ran well but my battery life wasn't quite as good and the camera didn't perform quite as well (no QHD or slow mo)

How far are LG behind the nexus updates? Now that the google apps etc are more modular and updates using the playstore, being slightly behind the Nexus range is less of an issue but still I wondering how good LG are with their updates.
Do you believe this phone will get the next version of android officially from LG?
I came from nexus 4.
Nexus 4 display is horrible compared to g2
Batterly life is like 2xtimes more just think u have 2x Nexus 4 on your pocket
yeah the battery life so bad on the Nexus 4 its a joke, If I finish the day with it its a miracle!
Is there an easy way to remove all the clutter from the stock notification bar? its way to cluttered for my liking, id be much happier with the standard google kitkat one....

Of course there is. Just use G2 Tweakbox Xposed module. And get full version(it is just 1$ anyway). I have always used CM based roms on my past samsung phones but G2 stock rom is just great, sure sometimes i flash aosp like mahdi (which in my opinion is best aosp rom), but i always come back to stock.
Here is how my G2 looks on complete stock rooted with few xposed modules:

Also i removed LG apps and use alternatives instead, ex. aosp Dialer, calendar, contacts, calculator, gallery and so on. So you can make stock rom look exacly as you wish it to.

I'm amazed how many of you rate the stock ROM! Ive never seem that before with other manufacturers! what makes it so good compared to a asop rom?
I'm amazed too lol I thought most of the heavy users prefer AOSP (since mahdi updated to real 4.4 sources..).
But in the last weeks i was a flashaholic (i flashed a rom per day, AOSP and stock based) and i have to say, stock is really good, combined with dorimanx its awesome (just use his kernel, if you know what you do, because i think its for advanced users, e.g. me - i bought the app "per app modes" where you can configure which app should use which clock and gov. etc., so facebook = 1,5 GHz and ondemand governor, gaming 2,4 GHz and interactive gov, etc. pp), but stock kernel is good too tho.
I'm currently thinking about to flash pure 20D stock and tweak it a bit with root + xposed (with those combos you can make your G2 almost look a like AOSP - dont know about the settings menu and the Q-tiles). But stock is really good on the G2, LG did a good work here tho. Well, i talked with a user, hes using stock with xposed for a long time and hes happy with it.
At the end its YOUR choice obviously, but since many guys are prefering stock i would give it try
Final question!
Does anyone know if the G2 works correctly with the jawbone up24? Either on the stock ROM Or cm11.
This is very important to me as I use the up24 daily with my nexus 4.

Just to not let this post die, I like pretty much Stock
Besides, every ROM have different things, and depends on the users to catch'em all! (Wild Pokémon theme song suddently appears)
I think that you'll have to compromise on battery and performance with this phone. It's hard to have both performing well. I will only run stock based roms because they offer the best compromise. Lexodus rom with Stellar kernel along with Xposed and Greenify gave me the best all around. Lexodus and Stellar alone made the phone scream but did hurt the battery performance a little.

I find Minimal OS very stable and smooth. I have been using it around 20 days and observed no FCs as of yet. Battery backup is very good. In addition, I manually set CPU governors to improve the backup. I don't play much of games, but Hay day runs very smooth on this ROM, just the way it runs on stock. Talking about customizations, this ROM supports Layers, hence you can download the Layers themes from play store and customize the ROM.

Yes I'm also using that one and I like it so far. Haven't tried any other than stock rom though. It got all the additions I need to be happy. Except vibration adjustments.
Ps.: When I change dpi setting to a lower dpi, the font and everything gets smaller. Which confuses my brain . I mean, shouldnt lower dpi mean lower resolution therefore bigger font etc.?

You could try sokp, its a very stable rom with tons of features and customisation options while stille being smooth. Battery backup is not the best but i get through my day with regular use. Since its aosp you can flash custom kernels made for cm12.1 and aosp. But in my experience it slowed my device down so yeah... Atm it has no xposed compatebility because it has an heavily customized ART, plus its based on android 5.1.1r10 i believe. Extra features are multi window and slim recents and a lot more. I'm realy pleased with it but it may or may not be for you .
Best of luck,

I agree with you concerning this ROM overall. I used it for a couple of weeks and was very impressed with it. Compared to a half dozen other ROM'S I have tried it won hands down. However, I ran into a glitch with a critical app upon which I rely for my job and unfortunately I had to go back to AOSP. I doubt that the problem will be resolved since the app is a very specialized app that most users on this site won't ever use.
Given that, I am extremely happy with 5.1.1 AOSP and would give it my number 1 rating. It is stable, smooth, responsive and the battery life a fairly decent.. And ALL of my apps work well with it.

Sure! It's Jobulator, which is a substitute teacher job assignment app. I sub-teach in the local school district and all potential jobs come through that app. It is set to a given interval (by the user) to check for new jobs that teachers have posted. When a job is listed it will give an alert notification and (ideally) I can then accept or reject the job. However with Minimal OS I would get the alarm but only a blank screen, (no "accept/reject" buttons). It took a while to show up since the first two weeks of school I was able to accept on my tablet and desktop (strictly by luck). But in several instances I was away from home. Consequently I was unable to accept some jobs before another sub grabbed them. So I went back to AOSP-luk and have had no issues.
In all honesty, I have never been dissatisfied with AOSP but the fact that Minimal has less bloat appealed to me so I tried it out. I see no difference in performance, battery life or stability with either ROM, just the issue mentioned above makes AOSP the winner for me.

Infinitive OS, excellent performance. Nice battery backup( 2 days of normal use, 4:30 hr of SOT, half WiFi, half 3g, it also sleeps like a baby). Only one bug, sometimes you can't wake up the phone with the block key, not a problem if you choose to wake it up with volume keys and after that block key works again. It just happens randomly.

I also tried Resurrection Remix. It is loaded with tons of features and customizations. It runs good but I faced some minor glitches randomly, so I would say not as smooth as Cyanogenmod or AOSP. Battery performance is better than stock, close to cyanogenmod, but not as good as AOSP. Plus, on my personal view, I feel that lots of customizations kind of ruined the overall look for the ROM. You can't get the look of stock Android on this ROM. There and bold and italic fonts are used in the ROM which hampers the overall look and visual experience, but this is actually no problem as this ROM supports Cyanogenmod theme engine. UI Smoothness vs Battery Life, and 3rd Party Launchers

Hey guys and gals. I've been poking around the forums here and crpalmer's unofficial CM13 has caught my eye. Many of the users in the forum praise how buttery the ROM is. At the same time, many users lament how the stock ROM achieves better battery life. I wondering, perhaps the stock ROM's lag is a direct result of aggressive battery saving protocol (e.g. cpu/gpu throttling). What do you think? If this is true, Huawei should implement a battery management switch similar to Windows (Power saving, Balanced, high performance). I'd happily sacrifice battery life for a buttery UI when I can afford it, and vice versa.
Continuing that thought, I use Nova launcher on Stock ROM and I haven't been too offended by lag. The only minor issues I have is when using Google Now search (a noticeable delay opening) and the task switcher (delay in both opening the switcher and entering a selected app). Where do you guys lag on stock ROM and does changing the launcher help?
Cheers.

I entered the arena a little late, but I've run almost all of the custom roms that will boot on my device. I'm currently running stock heavily modified and I'm very impressed with my $159.00 phone. My point being, the custom roms run great, but they take away the hidden treasures in this little beauty. Here's one.

@blas4me, what do you mean by heavily modified stock ROM? Are you talking about this ROM?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/development/rom-b140-debloated-t3335837
Well, I haven't used any of such debloated ROM, neither I disabled swap, but I feel that EMUI 3.1 is much laggy than EMUI 4.0. The UI is laggy, openings apps takes time n all. Plus I hate it because Huawei disabled OTG capabilities in it. (Best part is they didn't even know if it works, during beta test, we were told that phone hardware doesn't support OTG. We had to redirect them to XDA post where OTG capabilities can be enabled by flashing custom kernel; and then they believed it, but never enabled in EMUI 4.0 release.).
With EMUI 4.0, Huawei shipped issues like excessive RAM consumption, all CPU cores always online, which drains your battery and also heats up your phone. This is one of the reason I moved to CM13. Plus frankly I like stock Android. I used Huawei propriety EMUI for a while but didn't like it much. I feel lack of user friendliness at some places (just look at the default clock for example, you need to keep scrolling in order to set up the alarm. Other clock apps downloaded from Play store doesn't seem to ring alarm on time. Also with EMUI 4.0, try the swiping WhatsApp notification, I am quite sure you will hate it.).
If Huawei fixes the issues with EMUI 4.0, and put some sugar on top with OTG support, then I might give a try to EMUI 4.0 again for a while
Yes, @blas4me, care to share your list of modifications? I'd like the stability of stock with some performance improvements (even at the expense of battery)
Sure, first I calibrated my battery. A old habit, anyway just use phone until dead, then fully charging in off mode would be best, but you can charge powered on, then, power off when you get to 100%, until your notification light is green. From there install battery guru, put in learning mode and that's pretty much it on that side. The phone comes with power saving features, I'm using smart mode. I also have amplify installed, an xposed module, not sure if it's playing a part in power conservation. When I say heavily modified , about twenty or so xposed modules, some custom scripts running, changed density and some other haks, craks, and work arounds, that I won't mention, but I have shared or found within the community.
PS: I have nova launcher, and animations & transitions turned off in developer options, and in nova I set all animations & transitions to fast.

I agree with the op. The stand-by time on this rom (3.0) is great. That and the fp scanner is what is keeping me on this rom. However I choose to change the animation from .5x to 1x and it feels more smooth. I also limit to 3 background apps. I do keep it on performance mode and have am still getting great power use! The no swap script makes noticeable difference. Like others stated the only lag really is in the app switcher and google search.
Great phone for the price. I sold my nexus 6 as is was getting to bulky to carry around and I am just not using it as much as before. Only thing I miss is the new look of notifications in the preview N.

Was installing Xposed easy? I've done it before on Motorola devices but was hesitant to try on the Honor until I hear from others.
Yeah, you need 86, not 85. Go to xposed repo.
Why would you calibrate your battery it has a min and max voltage, it cant be discalbirated. there is no file that resets its self so its get 'calibrated'.
Just a habit from a old HTC device, but thanks for the technical advice, I'm geeky like that.
